Hyattsville Introduces PassportParking app for easier parking

Hyattsville, MD – Today Mayor Candace B. Hollingsworth announced that the City of Hyattsville will launch its use of a smartphone app that will make parking easier for its residents and visitors. PassportParking, the industry’s most advanced user-friendly parking payment app, will be available starting in March at all Hyattsville metered parking locations so that users can easily park, pay, and be on their way.

“We are excited to bring pay-by-phone parking technology to the City of Hyattsville,” said Mayor Hollingsworth. “It is important to us that we continue to meet the parking needs of our residents, visitors and local businesses.”

The app is powered by global parking technology leader, Passport, who developed the parking apps for cities like Boston, Toronto, Chicago, and Detroit. The free PassportParking app makes parking simple by allowing users to register through Facebook, purchase parking with a debit/credit card, manage their time, extend parking remotely, and receive email receipts.

“Passport’s launch in Hyattsville is an exciting moment for our city’s parking program,” said James Chandler, Assistant City Administrator and Director of Community and Economic Development. “Our PassportParking application along with our new smart meters will deliver to our customers the state-of-the-art parking experience that they have been asking us to provide.”

Along with the parking payment app, Hyattsville is also premiering new “smart” parking meters – made by IPS – across the City.

“We are confident that by introducing this new payment option, we are providing our customers with the most intuitive parking technology available,” said Chris Giunta, the City’s Manager of Code and Parking Compliance.

Passport signage at Hyattsville parking locations will direct users to download the app.

Parking locations where signs will be posted and the app will be in use include the following: Baltimore Avenue, the 4300 Block of Hamilton Street, 4300 Gallatin Street, American Boulevard, Liberty Lane, Freedom Way, and American Boulevard.

The PassportParking app is free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play. Users can also manage their parking at ppprk.com.
