Smart Parking: City of Hamilton set to unveil the deployment of bay sensor technology

Working in partnership with Arthur D. Riley Ltd, Smart Parking Limited (ASX:SPZ) the global parking technology company has won a contract for the supply and maintenance of bay sensor technology for approximately 945 parking bays in the City of Hamilton.

Located in the North Island, Hamilton is the fourth most populous city in New Zealand. The adoption of Smart Parking technology comes amid Hamilton City Council’s new parking plan to revitalise Hamilton’s Central Business District (CBD).

These advances in parking are at the forefront of the emerging “smart cities” revolution that is taking place globally. As urbanisation continues to accelerate, city governments are turning to Internet of Things (IoT) technology as a way of dealing with increasingly busy and complex cities.

Paul Gillespie, CEO at Smart Parking, said:
“We have a strong history of working with some of the world’s leading councils, having completed the installation of over 34,000 parking bay sensors across the globe during the last 14 years, and we look forward to working with Hamilton City Council in introducing the latest in in-ground vehicle detection sensors to assist in the daily management of on-street parking spaces.

As part of the project we will also be working with the Council to introduce a parking availability application which will enable drivers to locate and pay for vacant spaces in real-time using their smartphone device as well as top-up remotely. No more rushing back to the car to add more time!”

Smart Parking’s order from Hamilton City Council follows the recent deployment of over 3,500 vehicle detection sensors in Wellington representing the country’s largest deployment of bay sensor technology and Smart Parking’s further expansion into New Zealand.
