Parking in Schenectady Just Got Easier with the Installation of Cale WebTerminals

City of Schenectady and Cale America move forward with modernizing city’s parking program.

Fir green parking pay stations began showing up on the sidewalks of Schenectady recently, replacing the old mechanical meters which only accepted coins. The new solar-charged terminals, installed by Cale America, accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover in addition to coins. The new dual-language kiosks provide easy-to-read instructions in both English and Spanish, and issue a receipt which customers can display on their dashboard and keep as proof of payment. The electronic displays also offer a help button which directs customers to call 518-382-5211 for assistance.

“We are very excited for the citizens and visitors of Schenectady to have a convenient way to pay for parking,” said Chris Wallin, City Engineer for Schenectady Traffic Services. “The new kiosks will also reduce the City’s enforcement, collections and maintenance costs while creating a more modern downtown experience.”
The first phase of the program included State Street between Nott Street and Broadway, Clinton Street between Liberty and Union, and Union Street between Jay and Lafayette streets. Additional terminals were ordered this month for Erie Boulevard as part of the reconstruction project.
“The pay stations are similar to those in Albany and Troy, but also include the ability for the City to easily enable pay by plate, mobile app payments and EMV-certified card payments in the future,” said Schenectady Mayor, Gary McCarthy. “We wanted to make sure the technology not only meets our needs today, but also anticipates the needs of our community over the long run.”
