City of Evanston Upgrades Commercial and Commuter Parking Lots Local Support by Total Parking Solutions Key to Program’s Quick Success

January 06, 2015

DOWNERS GROVE, IL, January 6, 2015 – This past summer, the City of Evanston moved forward with the installation of 28 new pay stations covering approximately 600 parking spaces in the city’s off-street and commuter lots. The Cale WebTerminal (CWT) pay stations, were installed by Cale America’s distributor, Total Parking Solutions (TPS) in May 2014. City objectives for the system upgrade, including increased revenues, improved customer satisfaction and reduced operating expenses, have all been immediately realized.

“Revenues are up and meter problem reports have been mostly eliminated,” explained Mike Rivera with the City of Evanston Parking Services. “Plus, we now have redundant payment options for our customers for every parking space. Revenues from the Central Street Metra Station lot for the same period last year are up more than 15% due to curbing of user fraud and elimination of equipment failures.”

The new pay stations accept major debit and credit cards, as well as coin payments. Customers can also pay for parking using their smartphone. The dramatic reduction in coin payments is saving the City money on armored car service and counting fees.

Rivera said another reason the city purchased the equipment was to give us flexibility with rate structures.

“We have parking located one block from a 35,000 seat college football stadium. The Cale system gives us flexibility to program event rates for all home games. This could never be accomplished using the old single space parking meters,” explained Rivera.

Rivera also praised TPS for the ongoing support of the meter system.

“It is great to work with a professional staff that stands by their product and are committed to serving the changing needs of the client,” remarked Rivera.
