Raleigh, NC – Students, faculty, and visitors to campus are now able to skip the trip to the parking meter with a new service that allows drivers to pay for parking directly from their mobile phones.

NC State University has launched Passport, a mobile parking payments service, on parking spaces throughout campus. With this helpful service not only can you pay for your parking, the new service also delivers reminders to parkers before their parking session expires and allows the ability to extend their session without having to return to the meter. Passport can be found at other universities and cities around the country as well as nearby at North Hills shopping center.

To utilize the new service, smartphone users must first download the Passport app for iOS or Android devices or register online at http://m.ppprk.com.

Once registered, drivers have the option to pay using the Passport app or mobile website via credit card or Paypal. To pay, drivers simply enter the zone and space number listed on signage and then select how long they wish to stay. Both the mobile app and mobile website allow drivers to extend their parking session to the maximum time allowed, add or update payment card details, as well as manage notification and receipt options.

While the meter won’t show the time remaining, customers will not have to display any proof of payment as parking enforcement officers can view payments through a wireless handheld device.

The mobile pay service is offered by Charlotte, NC-based Passport, Inc. Passport has a proven track record of deploying mobile payments in municipalities of all sizes across the U.S. and Canada. Municipalities routinely choose Passport as their mobile pay provider of choice due to Passport’s unparalleled ability to tailor solutions to specific customers.  Recently, Passport has partnered with the City of Boston, MA to seamlessly deploy ParkBoston, the region’s largest mobile pay program. Passport Mobile Pay can also be found in Chicago, IL, Tuscon, AZ, and Toronto, ON.

“As an NC State Graduate, I’m really excited that we’re bringing Passport to campus,” said Haley Bohon, one of Passport, Inc.’s Project Managers. “The simplicity of our mobile payment option and the convenience of our technology eliminate substantial parking worries. We look forward to a long relationship with the university as it continues to improve the parking experience.”
