National Parking Association Announces Top Intelligent Transportation and Tech Leaders to Open 2015 Convention & Expo
Washington, DC (July 10, 2015)—The National Parking Association will open its 2015 Convention and Expo with a dynamic panel addressing the future of technology, autonomous vehicles and the future of self-driving cars.
Shelley Row, P.E., PTOE, MBA, former director of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office, will moderate a thought-provoking expert panel addressing the possible repercussions of the burgeoning technology. The panelists all have extensive knowledge on intelligent transportation and varying views on its impact on society. They are:
Dr. Ken Laberteaux is senior principal scientist at Toyota Research Institute North America. He has twenty-two years’ experience in the automotive and telecommunication industries, produced twenty-five scholarly publication and holds sixteen patents. Ken’s current research focus is sustainable mobility systems and US urbanization and transportation patterns.
Joseph Kopser is CEO and co-founder of RideScout, a mobile app that helps you get from point A to point B faster and smarter. Since the app launched in 2013, RideScout is in over 69 cities in the U.S. and Canada earning the 2014 U.S. DOT Data Innovation Award as well as Joseph’s recognition as a White House Champion of Change as a Veteran in Clean Energy in part for his work with RideScout.
Dr. Daniel Fagnant is an assistant professor in civil engineering at the University of Utah. Dr. Fagnant is a member of the Transportation Research Board’s Vehicle-Highway Automation Committee, and his research on self-driving vehicles has been presented to the U.S. House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit.
“It is critical that parking professionals understand the implications of self-driving cars and other industry disruptors so they can proactively prepare for their arrival,” explained NPA president Christine Banning, MA, CAE. “NPA is dedicated to keeping its members and the parking industry at large on the forefront of technological advances.”
This year’s Convention theme, People, Progress & Performance, embodies the fundamentals of the parking industry: parking takes place when people drive cars, and the industry is built around people providing a necessary customer service. The 2015 Convention will tackle people-focused topics, including how parking employees make parking businesses successful. Specifically, attendees will learn how to hire and train employees well to build a successful long-term team.
