Sharing Economy Start Ups Team Up to Reduce Cost of Airport Parking
They say ‘sharing is caring’, well two start-ups, both founded in Melbourne, have teamed up to support their rapidly growing businesses. Carhood, Australia’s No.1 Car Sharing Service which offers free airport parking to car owners by promoting those vehicles to potential car renters, has partnered with Parkhound, Australia’s Number 1 Car Park marketplace. The deal will allow long suffering airport parkers to take advantage of either free or discounted airport parking.
Through the collaboration Parkhound and Carhood are poised to take advantage of the sharing economy model that has seen the likes of Airbnb and Uber enter the mainstream Australian psyche. Parkhound, which matches drivers with over 3,000 parking spaces provided by businesses and residents across the country, has been working with Carhood to trial a discount airport parking service. The trial results were so strong, the businesses have decided to formalise the offer.
Parkhound Co-founder Michael Nuciforo said that combining resources was a huge advantage for both businesses, “Our airport parking starts at $30 a week which is 50-60% cheaper than other Airport parking providers. We could only offer this rate by working together with Carhood to leverage their expertise, secure warehouse and management skills.”
Carhood Co-founder Steve Johnson added, “Partnering with Parkhound is a no brainer because we can take advantage of the instant reach their site and app has. Carhood has disrupted the airport parking market in much the same way as Parkhound has with car parking in general.”
The trial, which ran for 6 weeks, saw over 30 customers take advantage of the discount parking deal. Parkhound Co-founder, Robert Crocitti, says seeing the enthusiastic response from customers was a great thrill for both companies. “At the end of the day, we love providing a cheaper option for motorists and we look forward to the ongoing collaboration between Parkhound and Carhood”.
To take advantage of free airport parking, customers who leave their vehicle at the secure Carhood warehouse in Tullamarine, either need to let Carhood lease out their vehicle to other drivers, or let Parkhound lease out their empty parking space at home. Customers who don’t want to lease out their vehicle or parking space can still take advantage of the lowest airport parking rates in Melbourne through the arrangement.
