As part of an ongoing effort to be a value driver to the surrounding community, ParkX Mobile Payment Solutions will be sponsoring Team Phoenix in the Triathlon Challenge this weekend in San Diego. The event will take place this Sunday morning at La Jolla Cove, CA.

ParkX Co-founder Ross Shanken will be participating in the event with his father, Alan, who lost his right leg at a young age due to a birth defect. The two have competed in numerous triathlon events in the past together and are looking forward to their first one in San Diego County.

“Every competition has its own unique set of challenges – different weather, terrain, course layout, etc…” said Shanken. “The triathlon really puts your body to the test and to see others doing it with physical disabilities is really inspiring.”

According to the US Paralympics, there are 21 million people in the United States today living with a disability. Only one in ten are able to participate in daily fitness activities. Equipment and specialized training that allows them to engage in active lifestyles is costly and usually not covered by insurance.

Established in 1997, the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) supports the athletic endeavors of individuals living with disabilities by recognizing the athletic greatness inherent in all people with physical challenges.

The sponsorship from ParkX will help to provide funding for adaptive sports equipment, training and competition expenses, and to put on events that allow challenged athletes to get off the sidelines and into the game.
