NPA Launches Emergency Preparedness Skills Certificate Program During National Preparedness Month
Skill Certificate Aids Planning, Training & Incident Management
Washington, DC (September 15, 2016)—At the National Parking Association (NPA) Convention & Expo in Atlanta, September 19-22, NPA launches an Emergency Preparedness Skills Certificate to aid parking professionals in planning, training, and managing their emergency preparedness program.
The new skills certificate also brings a focus on incident management. As service ambassadors parking professionals can play a supportive role in the event of an emergency. The program focuses on the importance of an advance plan and clear lines of communication and action to effectively address large or small emergencies.
NPA President Christine Banning, CAE said, “It’s imperative for parking as an industry to be part of the fabric of our communities and play a supportive role for our parkers and the facilities we serve. With the launch of the Emergency Preparedness Certificate—we are offering a micro-credential that expands the skills and capabilities of parking professionals in this complex subject.”
The three-part certificate program focuses on policies, management and incident handling specific to the parking industry. The Emergency Preparedness Certificate covers instruction on how to develop emergency plans, mitigating risk/facilitating training and managing emergency incidents in three required in-person courses:
- Emergency Preparedness: Plans, Policies and Procedures
Tuesday, September 20, 8-9 a.m.
- Management Playbook & Training: Mitigating Risk in Emergency Situations, Wednesday, September 21, 8-9 a.m.
- In Depth: Active Shooter & Incident Management
Thursday, September 22, 8-9 a.m.
The Emergency Preparedness Certificate is part of NPA’s micro-credentials program for developing critical skills in the parking industry. Other NPA certificate programs include courses in human resources and parking safety. Those certificate courses are available 24/7 online at learning.WeAreParking.org.
