University Of Oklahoma Gives Parking The Green Light With Installation Of Pioneering Parking Guidance Technology
Norman, OK (November 13, 2017)— INDECT USA, the parking industry’s leading provider of sensor-based parking guidance systems, has announced the completion of a pioneering parking guidance installation at the University of Oklahoma’s Jenkins Garage. With the installation of INDECT’s camera-based parking guidance system, The University of Oklahoma (OU) has become the first organization in the United States to offer parkers all the benefits of a camera-based parking guidance system with the ease and simplicity of a single light above every space.
“It’s never been done before.” said Dale Fowler, Director of INDECT USA. “Most organizations are willing to sacrifice single-space illumination for the features of a camera-based system but OU was different. The University had a clear vision of what parking guidance should be and insisted that the system provide ultimate benefits to parkers. That’s what makes this installation unique.”
Camera-based parking guidance systems are becoming increasingly popular across the United States because they offer drivers a greater level of security through real-time vehicle monitoring, license plate recognition and customizable audio alerts. However, traditional camera-based parking guidance systems provide only one light for a group of spaces. This can be confusing for drivers as they are directed to an area with a vacancy rather than to a specific space. Single-space guidance systems, on the other hand, have one light for every space and offer a simpler and more intuitive parking guidance experience by guiding drivers directly to an open space. The flexibility of INDECT’s parking guidance suite permitted OU to take the best features of each system and combine them to create the ultimate guidance solution.
“When we were selecting a parking guidance partner INDECT quickly rose to the top,” said Kris Glenn, The University of Oklahoma’s special technology PM. “The Jenkins Garage system has already made a huge difference, and we are looking forward to introducing the INDECT parking guidance technology throughout the rest of campus.”
The University of Oklahoma has joined the growing list of American universities that have recognized the important role parking plays in day-to-day satisfaction and overall productivity of students and staff. Traditionally, it has taken OU students and staff up to 30 minutes to find parking. The installation of the INDECT parking guidance system has reduced search times significantly and it now takes an average of just 10 minutes to find a space.
INDECT’s advanced software compliments OU’s existing sustainable parking initiatives by allowing drivers to easily identify LEFE (Low-Emission, Fuel Efficient) spaces. Only vehicles that have a green score of 45 and above and are listed on the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) may park in these spaces. It also enables the university to designate different parking areas for students, faculty, and guests according to changing needs.
Following the successful installation of parking guidance at Jenkins Garage, The University of Oklahoma will be installing additional INDECT systems in four more garages over the next 12 months.
OU’s INDECT parking guidance suite was installed by Parking Guidance Systems (PGS), LLC.
