INDECT USA Completes America’s Largest Installation Of Wireless NEDAP Sensors At Assembly Row In Somerville Massachusetts
SOMERVILLE, MA (January 30, 2018)—INDECT USA, the parking industry’s leading provider of sensor-based parking guidance systems, has once again successfully collaborated with IPsens to provide a fully-integrated wireless parking solution at Assembly Row in Somerville, Massachusetts. The installation of 1,144 wireless, in-ground, sensors took less than two weeks to complete, making it not only the largest installation of its type in the United States, but also one of the fastest.
Assembly Row is a thriving mixed-use development , owned and operated by Federal Realty Investment Trust. The neighborhood includes national retail outlets, over 20 dining options, , residential and office spaces, and a 12-screen cinema, and includes an MBTA Orange Line mass transit station on the property.
“This is a unique parking sensor project,” said David Middleton, Assistant General Manager at Federal Realty Investment Trust. “These sensors will permit us to monitor how long visitors are parked in each space to assure that parkers don’t exceed our three-hour limit for free parking.
The idea is to ensure that visitors to Assembly Row can always find parking by keeping the spaces turning over regularly.”
With the recent introduction of paid parking in the transit station garages, Assembly Row’s management was concerned that commuters would utilize free parking spaces, making it harder for shoppers to find available parking. The wireless in-ground sensors allow management to easily monitor parkers’ length of stay and ensure that time limits are observed.
“It’s effectively electronic chalking,” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA. “In fact, it’s better than traditional chalking because it’s more reliable and accurate.”
Whether management decides to enforce time limits by issuing parking fines will depend on the data collected and reports generated through the INDECT/IPsens software. At present the Assembly Row in-ground sensor installation does not include parking guidance signage.
However, one of the benefits of the INDECT system is the flexibility it offers to upgrade or expand as the need arises.
