WTW Architects – Another First for the City of Pittsburgh

 

 

 

Pittsburgh– At 10 a.m. Thursday, October 4, Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto will join Paul Wessel, director of the Green Building Alliance, and Pittsburgh Stadium Authority Board Chairman Stanley Lederman to unveil a plaque recognizing the Gold 1 Parking Garage as the world’s first Parksmart Gold Project.

 

 

Bordered by Tony Dorset Drive, Art Rooney Avenue, Reedsdale and West General Robinson Streets near Heinz Field, the 1,00 car, six-­‐level parking garage was completed a little over a year ago.

 

Designed by the Pittsburgh architectural firm-­‐WTW Architects–the garage incorporates and showcases the city’s sustainable goals. The Gold 1 Garage’s sustainable design features include storm water retention structures, adaptive landscaping, water diversion, electrical vehicle charging, bike parking and energy efficient lighting.

 

Founded in 1959 and headquartered on Pittsburgh’s North Side, WTW Architects has achieved national recognition for a variety of award-­‐winning projects. Besides the Stadium Authority of the city of Pittsburgh, the firm’s numerous clients have included Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Respironics, Georgia Tech, LSU, Medrad, and Oxford DevelopmentCompany.

 

WTW also served as the local architect for the design of Fifth Avenue Place in downtown Pittsburgh and Heinz Field, home of the National Football League Pittsburgh Steelers.
