with support from its local community
SpotAngels – the “Waze for Parking” – a community-based parking app that helps drivers find parking and avoid tickets, announces today its launch in Boston on the heels of a recent round of funding led by co-founder of Google Maps, Lars Rasmussen.
SpotAngels has previously established its community of drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater New York City and Chicago saving them over $7.5m on street cleaning tickets as well as time and money finding parking. Last month alone, users have parked 1 million times with the app.
“Our community of drivers has been asking us to expand to other cities where they travel to and where they have friends and family who struggle with finding parking and avoiding street cleaning tickets. Boston came up a lot and is notorious for its street cleaning tickets, so it made a lot of sense for us to launch SpotAngels there” says Aboud Jardaneh, co-founder of SpotAngels.
SpotAngels displays a map showing the location of all parking spots, with detailed rules and prices kept up-to-date by the active community. It includes local specificities such as Boston’s resident parking permits enabling to park for free. The map helps drivers find free and cheap parking, fast.
Anyone can update the parking prices and rules on the SpotAngels app by simply snapping a picture of a sign. In cities that are not covered yet, users can also edit the map and add all the parking spots. “That’s how it started in Boston, our local community helped us map out the city”, says Jardaneh.
SpotAngels also makes sure that drivers never get a parking ticket. The app automatically saves the parking location of drivers using the car Bluetooth or phone sensors and sends reminders when it’s time to move their car for street cleaning or any other parking rule.
In addition to saving the parking location, when drivers leave their spot the app automatically marks it as open for the rest of the community. This live open spot information can help drivers find parking in crowded areas in Boston.
SpotAngels is available on the App Store and Play Store and was previously featured by Apple and Google as “Waze for Parking” among the best apps of 2017. The company is backed by the co-founder of Google Maps, the former Head of Google Street View and prominent investors from Silicon Valley.
