Pay-by-Plate System Brings Full LPR Integration
Moorestown, New Jersey — Flowbird Group, the world’s leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions, together with its distribution partner Total Parking Solutions, have launched a new pay-by-plate parking system in Oak Park, Illinois. All new Flowbird CWT parking kiosks will be installed as part of the Village’s plan to make parking more efficient, ease transactions for the user, and fully integrate with License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology.
The new solar-powered CWT smart kiosks will replace nearly 1,500 single-space meters, a move that is part of the Village’s 5-year-plan to modernize their mobility platform. The CWT kiosks are user-friendly with a large color screen and customized interface. The kiosks will function in pay-by-plate mode, instructing users to input their license plate number and parking duration.
The previous method of parking throughout the Village included coin-only single-space meters, requiring enforcement to be done visually. Drivers can now pay for parking using credit or debit cards, coins, or with Oak Park’s mobile payment app. All transactions are transmitted to the enforcement system wirelessly. As LPR equipped vehicles drive through the streets, parking violations are easily identified.
Another benefit of Flowbird’s pay-by-plate kiosks is that Oak Park now offers a new rate structure. During the first three hours, parking will be $1 per hour. Parking after three hours increases to $3 per hour. According to officials, this will help create more turnover, but also allow people to stay longer if necessary. The diverse rate structure also encourages garage or permit parking, freeing up parking on-street.
As of June 2019, 54 Flowbird CWT Kiosks have been installed throughout the Village, with more to be deployed to complete Oak Park’s 5-Year Plan.
Currently, Flowbird supports over 40,000 parking pay stations for 600 customers throughout the U.S. The company is especially strong in the State of Illinois, where their partner, Total Parking Solutions, has installed and currently maintains Flowbird kiosks for over 90 municipalities, 5 universities, and 4 private operators. This is in addition to the 4,700 Flowbird CWT pay stations that were recently installed in the City of Chicago.
