APPYPARKING BECOMES APPYWAY, AS LEADING KERBSIDE AND INTELLIGENT MOBILITY TECHNOLOGY FIRM SETS OFF ON GLOBAL MISSION TO HELP CITIES THRIVE, FROM THE KERB UP

  • AppyWay launched as the fast-growing business looks to better convey how its solutions empower local authorities to unlock their kerbside assets and enable intelligent mobility

  • Award-winning mobile app, AppyParking, retains identity and continues to make parking forgettable for thousands of motorists across the UK

LONDON, UK – Tuesday 3rdSeptember: The company that developed and operates the award-winning mobile app, AppyParking, today announced the launch of their new parent brand, AppyWay, as the business is set to take-off on a global mission of helping cities thrive, from the kerb up.

Having recently completed a successful Series A funding round, AppyWay has been launched to help better articulate the company’s vision of smart, connected cities where intelligent mobility can flourish.

Dan Hubert, founder and CEO, “This is another huge milestone for our business and it’s truly a joy to be able to bring to life ‘the why’ behind ‘the what’ our fantastic team do. It all starts with a vision for more liveable cities, and our obsession with the kerb.  We may be a bit biased, but we genuinely believe kerbs have the power to unlock a better urban life for us all – socially, commercially and physically. And that right now is the right time to unlock that kerb power.’

Hubert founded AppyParking in 2013, with the ambition of solving the common frustration of finding a parking space. By showing drivers where they can and can’t park on-street, the app continues to help reduce the almost four days each year UK motorists spend looking for parking. The challenge of building up the UK’s largest set of standardised kerbside data led the entrepreneur to realise the uptapped potential lying under everyone’s feet.

The problem for city centres, Hubert argues is that, ‘kerbs haven’t changed physically for centuries. Yet the way we use them has. The explosion of ride-hailing, micro-mobility, ever-rising home deliveries and the popularity of PAYG services are driving up congestion, pollution and safety issues. As drivers battle for precious space to drop off and pick up, it’s causing kerbside chaos and our urban infrastructure is collapsing under the pressure. We’re seeing the demise of the local high street and the government’s recent commitment of up to £1 billion for the Future High Streets Fund1demonstrates the need for urgent action.’

The Future High Streets Fund is an initiative led by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, providing up to £25 million of investment per area, for local authorities to prepare long-term strategies for their high-streets and town centres. A key focus for the funding is improve transport and access into town centres and to invest in vital infrastructure2.

Hubert sees a key role for the kerb in these schemes, ‘At a time when online shopping can deliver what you need the next day with just one click, we need to face a hard truth – the user experience of the high street must be transformed if we are to encourage shoppers back and drive footfall. But, before you can innovate, you need to understand the high street first. How are streets being used? What does kerbside demand look like and how can parking be optimised? It’s a challenge our team are set-up to help solve, and with our kerbside management platform, AppyKerb, we can equip local authorities with the means to surface kerbside data, identify opportunities to improve their infrastructure, make those traffic order changes and also provide world-leading solutions to make parking more convenient and less stressful.’

AppyWay will be featuring their innovative solutions at the Cenex-LCV event at the Millbrook Proving Ground  4 – 5 September and at New Mobility World during the Frankfurt Motor Show 10 – 13 September as part of the Great Britain Pavilion.
