City of Virginia Beach Partners with “Waze for Parking” App, SpotAngels,

to Help Users Find Parking, Avoid Tickets, and soon Pay the Meter

SpotAngels, the leading & free community-based parking app that helps drivers find parking and avoid tickets announces today its launch in Virginia Beach as part of a curb management project with the city. The goal of this partnership is to ease the parking headaches for both residents and visitors looking to enjoy the city. Over the past year, the app saved drivers in cities including New York, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia and more over $20M in parking tickets as well as time and money finding parking.

City of Virginia Beach partners with SpotAngels to make parking easier

How it Works

SpotAngels, the “Waze of Parking,” works by displaying a map with the location of all street parking spots, parking lots and garages, helping drivers find free and cheap parking, comply with the rules and avoid tickets. For each spot, the app shows all the rules such as loading zones, no parking hours and all other restrictions, prices of meters and rates of parking lots and garages. In addition to these features, SpotAngels has integrated with the PARCS of city owned off-street facilities to display availability on the map and has partnered with advance booking platforms, providing a one-stop-shop for parking and availability for Virginia Beach.

All the parking information on SpotAngels can be easily updated directly on the app. Also, the app shares information with others to make it easy to find parking. It knows when you leave a spot and displays it to the rest of the community. These parking patterns collected from the community are then used to make recommendations on where you’re likely to find an open parking spot.

How SpotAngels is Different

The uniqueness of SpotAngels is not only in the fact that it’s the first to display all the street parking information but also in the fact that it is crowdsourced. It is the first app in the industry to create a voice for the parkers to help make their own parking experience better.

“We are thrilled to bring SpotAngels to Virginia Beach and for the very first time show citizens and visitors absolutely all the parking information,” says Hamza Ouazzani Chahdi, co-founder of SpotAngels. “We are very excited to be working with the City of Virginia Beach, one of the most innovative cities in the nation!”

Coming soon: Pay the Meter!

In addition to showing citizens and visitors all the parking information, the City of Virginia Beach has agreed to enable SpotAngels as an additional option to pay the meter – in a move that makes it one of the first cities in the nation to open meter payment to multiple vendors. The goal for the City is two-fold: 1/ provide more choices to citizens and thus increase competition, innovation and ultimately customer service and ease of compliance; 2/ increase mobile payment penetration in the City which will help save the city cash collection costs. This feature will be live in the SpotAngels app as soon as the meters are up and running again in the spring, since they are free of charge during the winter.
