Empower, choose, don’t shame! – ParkNews.biz week of Sep 22-28, 2020
How do we empower vs shame? How do we create vs criticize? If you have nothing good to say …
Luke 9:50: “Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side.”
There is an article on ParkNews.biz about social media. Sep 28, 2020 – Social media and COVID shaming: Fighting a toxic combination. Also, there is a blog from our JVH about the good ole days. Does social media create value? Or does it deter? Both the article here and John mention an app call NextDoor. John says, “Anyone can say anything and send shock waves through a community.” And sadly it becomes news of the day.
I have spent 7 months in Florida taking care of my ill parents. Upon landing at the Burbank, CA airport and driving through Melrose Ave back home, I was sad. I was sad leaving my parents behind but I was even more broken hearted seeing businesses shut down and lack of life on the streets of LA. Maybe it is a fear of the virus or perhaps fear of another who can report you for the slightest infraction. From the article: “Julian Siegel figures business dropped about 20% earlier this spring at his Fort Lauderdale, Florida, restaurant after someone posted a picture on the Nextdoor app of people waiting in his parking lot for food. The person said the customers weren’t following social distancing guidelines at The Riverside Market; Siegel insists that they were.”
Some successes from this past week: “Parking Guidance Systems, LLC, a business specializing in delivering custom parking technology solutions to improve the customer parking experience, is proud to announce it has received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA), a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC)”
Smarking and their real time data, helped One Parking Outperform 71% garages. “With the frequent changes in recovery across the U.S., One Parking can use the benchmark as an ongoing baseline to understand what the next normal is and get granular insight to inform their strategy and accelerate recovery.”
HonkMobile is one of the fastest growing companies in Canada. “With 3-year revenue growth of 646%, Honk ranks No. 83 on the 2020 Report on Business Ranking.”
T2 Systems has partnered up with United Public Safety to Create Comprehensive Parking Solutions for the Municipal Market. Together, and with their combined technology, they can create more revenue more efficiently.
Companies like PayByPhone, Passport and ParkMobile continue to create easier payments and better parking experience in various cities and universities. “For the first time this fall, students, faculty and visitors of the University of Nevada, Reno, Bowling Green State University, Trinity Western University and the University of Washington’s Tacoma and Bothell campuses, can now park with ease using the PayByPhone app.”
Omaha, NE and Coord enter into a partnership to manage curbs. Welcome to their Smart Zones. The curb will never be the same. “Adding the smart zone application “allows drivers the convenience to view availability and it also creates more awareness around the use of zones versus blocking traffic ways,” said Kenneth D. Smith, parking and mobility manager for Omaha.
More news to come.
Thank you,
