Prop 22 in California.  Covid tests in our office.  And Contactless, Touchless Parking Everywhere – ParkNews.biz for the week of Oct 6th – 12th, 2020

As we are getting close to election, what will happen to our ride shares in CA? What do the drivers who work for Uber or Lyft think and do we really know?  Will we be able to afford a ride to the airport or perhaps a dinner at our friends’ house?   Will taxis come back? And if Prop 22 fails in California, will other states follow suit? Isn’t there a price for everything in life?

One of these prices we pay is shortage of coins.  That spare change in your car used to work perfectly with the on street meter.  And then later, someone who was an apartment dweller had clean laundry with these coins.  Now more and more cities are eliminating old fashioned meter since we are going contactless.

VSU went mobile app only recently.  The app of choice to pay for parking is ParkMobile.  Albeit my Mom’s university days are over, I am thankful that I got her an iphone so she can pay for parking everyplace she goes with her app.

The good news is that more and more cities are charging for on street parking and enforcing parking.  Ventura, CA starts their on street parking fees today.  Once again, be ready to pay with an app and once again ParkMobile.

In other news, Park Assist has been awarded the Parking Guidance System (PGS) contract for the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Park Assist has been on the move in other locations lately, bringing a better parking experience to customers in Whole Foods and at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s Parking Garage.

This past week, one of our Veterans in Parking, Juan Rodriguez, Co-founder and CEO of FlashParking was named an Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2020 Central Texas Award winner by Ernst & Young. Congratulations Juan.

Albeit it has been quiet on a self driving cars front, not so in Arizona.  These days anyone can order an autonomous car ride from Waymo in their Pacifica vans around Chandler, AZ.

New hiring in the news: “Chicago-based Legacy Parking Company, a premium professional parking management firm serving the commercial real estate industry, is pleased to announce the hiring of Glenn Kurtz as Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.”

Parker Technology has a new partnership: They have teamed up with Access Professional Systems (APS) to provide parking public better service.

And Uber is getting on the game of getting voters to the polling stations.  Not only are they investing heavily in the Prop 22 in California, they are intending on feeding the people waiting in lines to vote at the polling stations.  Can they also send us some free eats to our homes when we have to fill out our mail in ballots? Free chicken wings from Uber Eats and the Prop 22 passes.  Democracy is Delicious Say their trucks.  So put on your togas in this lovely Republic of ours and vote!
