Uber, Planes and Baseball – ParkNews.biz March 31st – April 12th, 2021
The demand for rideshare services is growing: This week, “Uber saw its highest-ever monthly bookings in March thanks to a rise in COVID-19 vaccinations. Uber’s mobility business marked its best month since March of last year, passing a $30 billion annualized gross bookings run-rate, while its average daily gross bookings rose 9 percent month over month. Meanwhile, Uber’s delivery business also saw a record-setting March, marking a $52 billion annualized gross bookings run rate, a more than 150 percent increase year over year.”
And since the demand for rides and delivery services is through the roof, Uber is offering sign-up bonuses and other incentives for drivers. “In a government filing, the company said demand for ride-hailing, which plunged during coronavirus lockdowns last year, has recovered more quickly than expected as daily COVID-19 vaccinations exceed 3 million per day in the U.S.
Some people are still avoiding public transportation out of infection fears, potentially boosting demand for services like Uber and Lyft further.” – Read about it here: April 12, 2021 – Drivers Wanted: Record Demand At Uber As Vaccinations Rise.
Another piece of good news is that more and more people are flying. And thus, the pandemic parked planes are being put into service. “ … in recent weeks, American saw demand climb with spring break, Easter and Passover travel. It saw vacationers book flights for the summer. And it saw a need for those idle planes.
Each day an airplane is parked, American loses about $50,000 in potential revenue, Steele said. That figure does not include the labor hours for the maintenance work.
So American began the meticulous process of putting the aircraft back into service, and it plans to have its entire remaining fleet back in the air by the end of this month.” More here: April 12, 2021 – How American Airlines pulls parked planes from pandemic storage
