BendPak Invests in New Global Headquarters

Equipment manufacturer buys former Conrad N. Hilton Foundation headquarters to support growth

SANTA PAULA, CA (June 7, 2023) — BendPak, Inc., a leading manufacturer of vehicle service equipment and specialty consumer products, has purchased a new global headquarters in Agoura Hills, Calif. The 22,256-square-foot administrative building, built in 2012 for the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, is situated on 12 acres in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, just west of Los Angeles. BendPak expects to move from its current Santa Paula, Calif., offices by the end of the summer.

The award-winning building is modern, environmentally sensitive, and energy-efficient. It earned LEED Platinum® certification, the highest level available for sustainable buildings from the U.S. Green Building Council.

“We are thrilled to own this landmark property,” says Don Henthorn, BendPak founder and chairman emeritus. “Our business is booming, and we’ve simply outgrown our current space. We believe this location will enhance our ability to serve our customers, while also providing our team with an uplifting and energizing work environment.”

This is the latest in a series of recent BendPak real estate expansions. In 2020, the company completed a 50,000-square-foot addition to its Santa Paula distribution and manufacturing center and opened a new 100,000-square-foot distribution and administrative building in Alabama. Earlier this month, BendPak announced completion of a new 90,000-square-foot building on the Alabama campus. Operations at these facilities will continue. The new headquarters will be home to client and customer service, engineering, product development, marketing, information technology, human resources, accounting, and management.

BendPak’s new center of operations offers lots of natural light and stunning mountain views, providing a serene atmosphere to inspire creativity and foster productivity. Designed to help promote innovation and constructive thought among employees, it features Zen-like elements including a stunning waterfall, babbling brook, and peaceful koi pond, along with abundant outside relaxation and meeting spaces.

“Our new global command center will enable us to provide a healthier, more comfortable and supportive work environment to help our employees thrive personally and professionally,” says Jeff Kritzer, BendPak president and CEO. “We look forward to this exciting new chapter in our company’s history and invite our clients and partners to visit us and experience the peaceful and inspiring environment for themselves.”

Designed by ZGF, an architectural firm and global leader in sustainable and regenerative design, the building sets a regional precedent for environmental stewardship. Noteworthy sustainable design elements include extensive water conservation systems, a green roof, solar thermal heating and passive cooling systems, drought-tolerant native plants, and an active shading system.

The net-zero energy building harnesses the power of the sun to generate all the power it needs through the array of solar photovoltaic panels covering its parking canopy. This feature also highlights BendPak’s commitment to sustainable practices and reducing its carbon footprint.

“Our new headquarters is not just a physical space, it’s a reflection of our company culture and values,” says Rudy Diaz, chief operating officer. “With three strategic campus locations across the United States, we’ll be even better positioned to provide our customers with the highest-quality products and services, while also increasing our capacity for further growth and innovation.”

Dallas, TX (June 7, 2023)—Professional Parking Technologies LLC (ProParking.com) today announced a partnership with UbiPark, becoming UbiPark’s sales, installation, and servicing representative across the UnitedStates. Based in Melbourne, Australia, UbiPark has revolutionized parking in Australia with the introduction of its proprietary technology. ProParking is an innovative technology company that delivers multi-tech solutions thatparking owners and operators need to meet their unique needs.

“We are excited to be partnering with UbiPark as their US agent,” said Brent Van Loggerenberg, ProParking’s managing Partner. “UbiPark’s technology provides an extraordinarily seamless parking experience, while giving cities, owners, and operators incredible amounts of utilization and customer

data. This technology is going to take the American parking community by storm, just as it already has in Australia.”

UbiPark’s groundbreaking zero contact platform gives cities, owners, and operators a uniquely tailored connection to their parkers and permit holders. The UbiPark smartphone app provides a true windows- up parking solution.Flexible & smart, the solution can integrate with any existing equipment in your car park or building. When drivers open theapp, they see a map listing the location and cost of available parking. After they select a parking garage or lot, a guidance program pops up to offer turn-by-turn directions to that garage. The platform can even connect drivers to available on-streetparking spaces.

The platform also provides online bookings and customized access to parking facilities. When the driver arrives at the designated garage or lot, an entrance prompt appears on the driver’s phone or dash. When the driver pushes the button, or their license plate is recognized, the access gate raises, and the driver can enter the facility. The same process happens upon exiting, and the driver associated with the account is automatically charged for theparking session. The platform provides a smooth, contactless parking experience.

The platform also collects valuable utilization and user data for owners and operators, which can be used to operate the garage or lot more efficiently and effectively. The platform also has a comprehensive accounting backend providing billing, aging analysis and reports providing data about revenue and garage utilization.

“We are excited to be working with ProParking in the United States,” said Mosstyn Howell, UbiPark Founder & CEO. “In this era of automated parking and parking management, UbiPark offers a simple, elegant solution that dramatically improves the parking experience and provides numerous benefits to owners and operators.”

78% of Americans Would Consider Renting an EV as a Way to ‘Try Before they Buy’ According to Verra Mobility Survey

78% of Americans Would Consider Renting an EV as a Way to ‘Try Before they Buy’ According to Verra Mobility Survey

Misconceptions on charging and maintenance rank among the top concerns from majority of U.S. drivers despite growing popularity of electric vehicles

MESA, Ariz., June 7, 2023  — Verra Mobility Corporation (NASDAQ: VRRM), a leading provider of smart mobility technology solutions, today released a new report, “The State of EVs, 2023 Report on Smart Mobility” on consumer perceptions of electric vehicles (EVs). Verra Mobility polled 2,000 Americans aged 25 and older on their perspective around renting an EV, and views around safety, convenience, and the decision to purchase one in 2023. The survey had many surprising findings including that 78% of Americans would consider renting an EV as a way to ‘test drive’ the technology before buying.

According to research from Modor Intelligence, the EV rental car market was valued at $9.13 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach $20.42 billion by 2027. Verra Mobility found that 27% of survey respondents had previously rented an EV (19% for personal use, and 8% for business). Of those who had rented an EV, 64% would consider buying an EV based on their driving experience.

“Renting an EV is a helpful way to get drivers more comfortable and alleviate concerns,” said Steve Lalla, executive vice president of commercial services at Verra Mobility. “For many people, driving an EV isn’t intuitive. There’s anxiety around the unknown, like maintenance, locating charging stations and how to pay to recharge.”

Verra Mobility’s survey also explored perceptions around EVs, finding that 63% of respondents expected maintenance costs to be higher with EVs versus gas vehicles, despite research from Car & Driver finding the opposite to be true. Survey respondents also thought incidents of roadside assistance would be greater with EVs. However, 77% of respondents felt that EVs were as safe or safer than gas powered automobiles.

Lalla added: “Consumers are becoming more curious about testing out EVs, and these vehicles present business travelers with opportunities to support their own companies’ sustainability efforts. Our survey findings and Verra Mobility’s own research illustrate opportunities for the industry to help consumers understand and become more comfortable with the nuances of driving electric.”

Despite the growing popularity of EVs, concerns such as availability of charging stations and cost still remain high as Verra Mobility also found in its own employee focus group. 79% of U.S. drivers polled reported being concerned about range anxiety and noted availability of charging stations as the number one obstacle with (33%) owning/driving an EV, followed by cost (29%). In addition, 40% of those surveyed said they would rent an EV over a gas vehicle if cost wasn’t a factor and only 19% said they would rent a gas vehicle regardless of price.

Survey Methodology

The data was derived from a survey by Verra Mobility conducted online via Pollfish on April 28, 2023. 2,000 Americans aged 25 and up completed the survey. To download the full report, visit: https://www.verramobility.com/ev-2023-smart-mobility-survey.

Verra Mobility’s Commercial Services business provides integrated toll and violation management solutions and title and registration services for rental car companies, fleet management companies, corporate fleets, rental car operators, OEMs, car dealerships and financial institutions.

Verra Mobility earlier this year announced its pledge, Zero in on Safety, as a call to action for drivers to commit to reducing dangerous driving behaviors to address unacceptably high traffic fatality numbers across the globe. 2023 Global Driver Survey reveals increasing demand for accurate parking and charging data and in-car connected services

June 05, 2023

2023 Global Driver Survey reveals increasing demand for accurate parking and charging data and in-car connected services

  • 92% of global respondents highlighted difficulties in locating parking spaces, with 18% of US drivers experiencing issues every time they look for parking, combined with a widespread underutilisation of connected services
  • Survey reveals that more than 90% of EV drivers worldwide feel anxious about finding charging away from home, including 92% in the US
  • Survey was completed in May 2023 by 5454 respondents across the US, Germany, France, UK, Italy and Japan, collating motorists’ views on the problems faced during journeys and across connected services suchas parking, charging and in-car commerce

05 June 2023 – London, UK

Drivers worldwide are demanding greater in-car parking and charging functionality, according to the latest 2023Global Driver Survey, completed in May 2023 by award-winning market research company, Borderless Access. The survey collated the responses of 5454 motorists worldwide, including 2225 EV owners, and surfaced that the majority of drivers regularly struggle to locate parking and EV charging locations and would value features that help them find available parking and charging destinations and pay for these through their vehicles.

Parking: Motorists worldwide highlight parking struggles

Finding available parking spaces is a significant challenge worldwide, with 92% of respondents highlighting difficulties in locating parking and 8% globally stating this occurs every time they look for available parking, also reflecting an underutilisation of embedded connected services shown across the board. Meanwhile, 18% of US motorists have difficulties on every parking search, with significant differences between states: 58% of drivers in New York, 47% in California and 46% in Texas face parking challenges “very frequently” or “all the time”, whereas this number drops to 23% in Ohio.

Nearly half of global respondents deem parking information as extremely or very important, including 67% of American drivers and 72% of US EV owners. Meanwhile, only 3% of global respondents considered parking information as not important, with an even lower figure in the US. As a result, 77% of global respondents say that they would value having a vehicle that offers integrated parking services, enabling them to navigate directly to parking locations. This includes 86% of global EV drivers, rising to 91% of US EV owners.

EV Charging: Drivers demand better charging services

Just as drivers worldwide showed a strong desire for their vehicles to help them find parking, a similar proportionwant their vehicles to assist with locating EV charge points and facilitating in-car payments. Charging anxiety is a well-established concern among EV drivers, but the latest Global Driver Survey highlights just how significant an issue this is – both for automakers looking to increase uptake of electric models and for drivers themselves, who stress about charging in public.

More than 90% of EV drivers worldwide feel anxious about finding somewhere to charge away from home, with that figure hitting 91% in Europe and 92% in the US.

Unfortunately, charging anxiety is not an unfounded fear, with 44% of EV drivers reporting that they have run out of charge and 22% finding themselves stranded multiple times. These figures are particularly high in the US, withnearly half of EV owners running out of charge and a quarter ending up short of their destination with a flat battery multiple times. Meanwhile, one in five European motorists have run out of charge more than once.

Contributing to this problem, 92% of EV drivers worldwide flagged how they struggled to locate charging points away from home, with 22% highlighting this as a very frequent or constant issue for them. This second figure jumps to a substantial 35% for American EV drivers, highlighting a significant need for technology to help drivers locate suitable charging points.

Demonstrating the scale of the problem, half of US EV drivers fail to locate specific EV charge points at least once a month, with 22% saying that this is a weekly issue. Nearly half of EV drivers globally have encountered occupied or “out-of-order” chargers while looking to plug in their vehicles. This is a particular issue in the US and Germany, witharound one-third of drivers in the two countries also experiencing issues physically accessing chargers.

Large proportion of EV drivers hit with unexpected parking fines while charging

Not only did respondents highlight that finding parking is a significant issue in many countries, but they also wanted more accurate parking information. Nearly one in five drivers in the US complained of difficulties with finding parking on every journey.

Charging an electric car is not only a stressful experience for many EV drivers, but it can also be expensive, with many EV owners being issued unexpected parking fines while charging. 58% of EV drivers surveyed have received unexpected parking fines while charging their vehicles, including an alarming 68% of US EV owners, highlighting the importance of clear and accurate parking and charging information. The survey also revealed that EV owners deem parking information more important than drivers of petrol and diesel vehicles – likely due to the extended stay times and higher risks of parking fines while charging.

Crucially, more than half of EV drivers who have received parking fines while charging believe that more accurate information would have actually prevented them from being fined, with 39% citing in-car payments as a solution to this problem – the most requested option – thanks to the combined benefits of being able to accurately pay for parking and charging simultaneously.

Quality of connected car services heavily impacts drivers’ choice of their next vehicle

Nearly half of American EV drivers reported running out of charge, with this occurring multiple times for a quarter ofUS EV drivers. Consequently, US motorists have a particular interest in in-car payments to simplify the payment process when they do manage to find a suitable charger.

Nearly 90% of global EV respondents would prefer to have a vehicle that offers the ability to locate public EV charging and navigate directly to these, including 91% of US EV owners. These features are no longer regarded as ‘nice-to-haves’ but essentials for EV owners that affect their future vehicle choice according to the survey data.

Globally, nearly 9 out of 10 respondents say they would be more likely to purchase an EV if it had ‘Park and Charge’ functionality, enabling them to locate chargers, get associated parking information, navigate directly to these and pay for charging (and parking), all via their vehicle’s media system. For 92% of current US petrol and diesel car owners this would reduce the anxiety of buying an EV.

Meanwhile, 96% of existing EV drivers say that combined Park and Charge features would make them more likely to get another EV. In-car activations and payments for charging are also seen as valuable standalone features with 84% of EV drivers valuing these.

In-car commerce demand continues to rise

In-car commerce is a rapidly growing industry, with connected vehicles now offering drivers the ability to pay for services such as parking, EV charging, road tolls and even food, directly from the vehicle. Demand for these features continues to increase, with 60% of global respondents valuing vehicle-centric in-car payments and 48% wanting Single Sign-On access across providers, enabling them to access multiple service providers through one account in their vehicle. American drivers have the strongest desire for these features, with 70% of US motorists surveyed wanting vehicle-centric in-car commerce and 61% valuing Single Sign-On.

Reviewing the most requested in-vehicle services, 64% of global respondents would value having in-car payment options for parking, while 75% of current EV drivers would like to be able to pay for EV charging through their car.American drivers again are particularly keen on having these features, with 68% valuing in-car payments for parkingand 81% of US EV drivers wanting to pay for charging from their car. Interestingly, nearly double the amount of respondents requested vehicle-centric options as opposed to food choices for in-car payments.

Commenting on the survey results, Eugene Tsyrklevich, Founder and CEO of Parkopedia, said: “We know that finding parking and charging can be challenging in many countries, however, we were surprised by the consistency, scale and breadth of the problems reported by motorists around the world in our latest survey. This highlights the importance of automakers addressing these concerns directly and providing accurate data and the most desired connected services.

“Currently, locating parking and charging is not only an inconvenience, but a significant stress and cause for anxiety for many drivers, with surprisingly high numbers of EV drivers reporting running out of charge and being stung with parking fines when they do manage to find a charger. With today’s connected vehicles, we believe that these situations can, and should be avoided, by providing trustworthy and accurate data and services to drivers, so if desired, they are able to successfully transition to EVs, or at least complete their journeys with ease.”

To meet this escalating need, TPA relies on ABM’s expertise as one of the nation’s largest parking and transportation management providers, which includes supporting over 2,000 client parking locations and shuttling more than 4.5 million passengers daily.

“From the airport employee to the traveling customer, our focus remains centered on delivering an outstanding experience for all those we serve across TPA,” said Larry DeLuca, Vice President, Aviation Landside Services Central, ABM. “We are particularly excited to support the continued adoption of electrification at TPA. Through this expansion of the airport’s shuttle fleet electrification, ABM and TPA are helping lead the aviation industry to a more electrified, forward-thinking and sustainable future.”

As ABM continues to bolster its presence in the eMobility and EV sectors, including the company’s recent introduction of its Smart Parking solution ABMVantage and the growth of its EV charging infrastructure portfolio, supporting electrification across parking and transportation fleets is a key area of focus.

Parkopedia partners with Valtech Mobility to provide end-to-end parking, charging and in-car commerce solutions

June 02, 2023

Parkopedia partners with Valtech Mobility to provide end-to-end parking, charging and in-car commerce solutions

  • Parkopedia and Valtech Mobility collaborate to integrate parking and EV charging services within vehicle infotainment systems
  • This partnership brings together Parkopedia’s data and payment processing platform and Valtech Mobility’s connected car software expertise
  • Together the companies enable automakers to support their drivers to find and pay for parking, charging, fuelling and road tolls from within their vehicles

02 June 2023 – London, UK / Munich, Germany

Parkopedia and Valtech Mobility have partnered to provide vehicle-centric digital services to drivers, combining Parkopedia’s extensive parking, charging and payment processing expertise with Valtech Mobility’s app creation, integration and backend development experience.

This agreement sees Parkopedia and Valtech Mobility – a joint venture of the Volkswagen group and the digital agency Valtech – work together to best support drivers in finding and paying for some of the most commonly requested vehicle use cases – parking, charging, fuelling and road tolls.

Together, the companies offer an end-to-end service for automakers that covers the complete in-car transaction process, from individual point of interest data, to user registration and payment processing, enabling automakers tooffer a frictionless in-car commerce experience.

The new partnership with Valtech Mobility means that vehicles with the associated software fitted will benefit from integrated in-car services that simplify and heighten the driving experience. This is achieved by providing accurate parking, charging and cost information, along with Parkopedia’s integrated Payment Platform that makes it possible to pay for services without having to exit the vehicle or pull out a smartphone.

Thanks to this partnership, auto manufacturers can benefit from a quicker and easier process of supplying parking and charging data together with in-vehicle payments for services such as fuelling and road tolls. This will offer a deeper integration with in-vehicle systems and sensors superior to a detached white-label app-only offering, andenable automakers to tailor the user experience to suit their individual drivers.

The standard format enables the Parkopedia and Valtech services to be accessed within Google AutomotiveServices (GAS) – with other environments to be added in the near future – which can be accessed through voice commands to ensure the greatest ease of use for drivers. Parkopedia and Valtech Mobility both have global reach, operating across Europe, North America, China and Japan, among other markets.

Markus Dohl, Parkopedia’s VP of Sales & Business Development Europe, said: “Parkopedia prides itself on simplifying everyday vehicle-based tasks for both automakers and their drivers. This partnership with ValtechMobility enables us to provide an integrated end-to-end parking, charging and payment solution to an even greater audience.

Norman Palmhof, Business Director Valtech Mobility, added: “Already during the first workshop we could see that our teams and portfolios complement each other very well. We are very pleased to have found a partner inParkopedia that has similar ambitions to ours and the ability to deliver consistently excellent data quality even at such scales.

“When we opened our doors ten years ago, we understood the only way to succeed in this business was to only represent the best parking guidance technology and to always make good on our promise of supporting our customers after the sale,” said Chandrea Frantz, President and Chief Marketing Officer at PGS. “This is such a competitive business, and we knew there was no room for inferior products or service.”

Sticking to its credo, over the last decade PGS has experienced steady growth and success, driven in part by its culture of excellence, instilled early on, and an extremely committed employee base. “We’ve built a great team where everyone understands the importance of their role, and what it takes to successfully complete a project,” added Derek Frantz, PGS, Vice President. “We strive for 100% customer satisfaction, and I believe our reputation in the industry speaks for itself.”

From its first installation at DFW airport in 2013, where the company installed single space sensors and way finding signage, to its most recent that features a complex combination of camera-based monitoring technology, outdoor detection systems, custom built programmable LED matrix signs, and “find my car” kiosks, PGS has come a long way over the last 10 years.

PGS currently has 33 employees and has expanded to 6 offices strategically located in Texas, Florida, California, and most recently Virginia. With nearly 200 parking assets currently being monitored by the company, and another 50 in progress, PGS continues to set the bar high with its industry-leading solutions and support, year after year.
