ACE Parking Surpasses One Million All-Electric, Zero-Emission Miles with Lightning eMotors Lightning ZEV4™ & Lightning ZEV5™ Shuttle Buses

March 21, 2023

ACE Parking Surpasses One Million All-Electric, Zero-Emission Miles with Lightning eMotors Lightning ZEV4™ & Lightning ZEV5™ Shuttle Buses

  • ACE Parking deployed 24 vehicles to ACE’s San Diego Airport fleet in 2020, creating the largest electric airport shuttle fleet in the U.S.
  • The fleet has mitigated over 1,050 tons of carbon emissions from the atmosphere
  • Deployment of these vehicles was partially funded by CARB’s HVIP program

LOVELAND, Colo.—-Lightning eMotors (NYSE: ZEV), a leading provider of zero-emission, medium-duty commercial vehicles and electric vehicle technology for fleets, announced today that Lightning customer ACE Parking’s San Diego Airport fleet of ZEV4 and ZEV5 shuttle buses have surpassed one million all-electric, zero-emission miles.

“ACE Parking’s San Diego Airport fleet is a success story not just for Lightning, but for fleet vehicle electrification, and it’s been an honor to be ACE’s chosen partner in this important deployment,” said Lightning CRO Kash Sethi. “It’s always such a point of pride—and a testament to our shared commitment to providing clean, safe and sustainable transportation—to see one of our fleets pass the one-million-mile mark. We’re looking forward to many more miles with ACE.”

Lightning delivered 16 Class 4 ZEV4 and 8 Class 5 ZEV5 electric shuttle buses to ACE Parking in 2020. Since deployment, the fleet has transported more than 1.5 million passengers over one million miles and mitigated over 1,050 tons of CO2 emissions from the atmosphere. The fleet is supported by Lightning Insights™, Lightning’s leading EV-specific telematics service that monitors vehicle location, efficiency, charge status and more in real time. The ZEV4 and ZEV5 zero-emission shuttle buses have averaged 41.1 and 34.4 MPGe respectively, over 5x more efficient than comparable gasoline shuttles, such as the Ford E-450 with 7.3 mpg and the Ford F-550 with 5.9 mpg.

“Lightning has been a good partner for us, providing strong service and support throughout the deployment despite ongoing gen1-technology hurdles,” said Steve Burton, president of ACE Parking. “We’re very happy with the environmental benefits of our Lightning fleet, while our drivers and passengers enjoy the quiet, refined performance only an EV can deliver.”

Lightning is now delivering the third generation of their ZEV4 shuttle bus with additional benefits, such as the batteries fully contained between the frame rails, redundant parking brake, push button shifting and more.

The ACE Parking vehicles participated in the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). HVIP provides point-of-sale discounts to organizations and companies for the purchase of low- or zero-emission commercial fleet vehicles. To date, program funding has helped more than 11,000 clean vehicles begin operation across the state, speeding up California’s electric transition, cutting emissions and improving air quality.

ACE Parking Is Proud To Announce AENA’s Award Of The Parking Operations Of 34 Airports In Spain

March 21, 2022

ACE Parking Is Proud To Announce AENA’s Award Of The Parking Operations Of 34 Airports In Spain

San Diego, US / Madrid, Spain – Starting March 1, 2022, ACE Parking, in partnership with  Spanish companies EYSA & SETEX, began managing the parking facilities at 34 major and mid-major airports in Spain.   This includes Madrid and Barcelona Airports.

Scope of the Project

  • 90,000,000 million enplanements annually
  • 100,000,000 annual parking transactions
  • 150,000 parking spaces
  • Exclusive management of every parking facility at each airport
  • Services include management of Self-Park, Valet, VIP Programs, Facility Maintenance and PARCS equipment Maintenance
  • Multiple Airport Shuttle Operations
  • Customer Service program management & reporting
  • On-line Reservation Platform coordination and management
  • Electric Vehicle charging services
  • Implementation of Centralized Control Center, Accounting/Financial/Operational Metrics on Real-time Dashboards

Vision – Expedited Project Opportunity Development

  • The relatively short-notice project opportunity (34 airport scope due in less than 60 days) came to Steve Burton, ACE President, and Shane Henning, ACE General Manager at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport through a European Wayfinding provider contact who reached out about the RFP to gage ACE’s interest
  • Steve immediately saw the potential for ACE and within 24 hours of first hearing about the opportunity was in email contact with EYSA and Setex
  • Zoom meetings were expedited by Steve and ACE’s partners within 24 hours to discuss the Airport RFP opportunity
  • In less than 3 days, ACE was on board with the opportunity and jumping fully into the deep end of learning how to respond to the RFP and to do business in Spain (ACE’s Ownership & CEO authorized Steve to pursue the opportunity within 10 minutes of his business pitch)

Extensive RFP Work Process Requirements

  • ACE jumped in with both feet in the first week of June 2021
  • We committed to extensive response tasks and our partners provided initial instructions for how we needed to officially respond to the RFP’s Technical Requirements
  • ACE had to create individual technical documents to each minimum requirement within the RFP (Similar to Major Airport RFPs in the US)
  • The more challenging aspects started with the authentication process which was further complicated during COVID – We had to create each technical document, confirm compliance, and have them notarized.
  • Each technical document and notary had to be translated into Spanish.
  • The documents then had to be sent to the State of California to be Apostle (Requirement of RFP and AENA).
  • This Apostle process could not be done in person – so we had to ship the documents to Los Angeles or Sacramento and wait for the process to be completed (taking weeks and many follow up messages to accomplish)
  • The most important documentation required the Spanish Consulate was the certification of ACE as a good standing company in California and the authorization of ACE to do business in Spain. Because of COVID, it was also impossible to get an appointment and very difficult to reach a person at the Consulate. ACE’s prompt process initiation proved to be essential in our obtaining these confirmations.
  • After dozens of phone calls and email messages, Steve was able to get in contact with the Spanish Consulate days prior to the due date of the RFP (July 30, 2021) and was able to get the documents executed and sent back to ACE in time for the RFP submission (failure would have resulted in our proposal response be non-admissible)
  • Without the help of Ashby Russell, ACE Marketing Specialist, multiple agencies that helped to Sheppard the process, and Steve’s motivation to keep the RFP process moving, our Team’s Effort along with our partners EYSA and Setex would have been for naught

Hard-Won Success

ACE is extremely pleased with the outcome of this RFP.  We are looking forward to growing our footprint in the European Union and beyond.  We are ready to show the world what ACE can do and look forward to continuing our growth in the United States and now in Europe.

“This herculean effort by ACE and my team, could not have happened at many US based parking companies.  The ones that could have qualified, would have been stuck in committee, legal, or the Board level trying to even look at and respond to this RFP opportunity. Not, so with ACE!  As the largest privately owned, 72-year third generation Parking Company in the country, ACE was nimble enough to mobilize our organization within hours and successfully responded to a 34 Airport RFP in less than 60 days – and WON!!!!”

“Be independent of the good opinion of other people.” –  Abraham Maslow

In the Feb 2021 Parking Today, Keith Jones of Ace writes one of the best articles I have ever read, “I Contain Multitudes.”  Read it here: pt or at ParkNews.biz. Keith evokes Dylan and his song of the same title.  When I read Keith article, immediately I heard Walt Whitman and his “ Do I contradict myself?  Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.”

We are moving forward with PIE 2021.  Come if you wish.  Grow if you wish.  Choose your MO.

“Planning for events like PIE takes months. We can’t just wake up July first and say, “OK, let start thinking about what we are doing at PIE.” We have been working on this since last year. But we are not alone. Event after event are in the planning stages, and scheduled for the near future.

San Diego, for instance, has six events scheduled for its convention center between June 1 and July 30. These exhibitions will attract over 35,000 people. The huge construction event, World of Concrete, will be held in Las Vegas in June. More than 60,000 people will be in attendance.

Fifteen events are happening in Orlando alone between now and the end of July. You can imagine the number of families that will be attending those shows, as well as visiting with Mickey and Donald.

According to Texas Highways magazine more than 200 events attended by as few as a couple of hundred people to more than 5,000 will be held between now and the end of July in Texas.  Over 250 events of all sizes are scheduled for Georgia during the same time period. I could go on and on and if you are interested, Google a state name and ‘exhibitions’ and see what’s happening.

Thousands of events have been rescheduled over the past year. Many have been cancelled, others have gone virtual. The feedback we have received from those attending virtual events of all types have been less than stellar. Let’s face it, nothing can replace ‘face to face.’” – From JVH:

PayByPhone Appoints Cindy Chau to Vice President of Operations, Canada & USA –

“PayByPhone is in the midst of extraordinary growth throughout the US and Canada, and Cindy Chau has shown tremendous leadership to our team,” said Roamy Valera, PayByPhone’s CEO, US and Canada. “Cindy is a gifted client success leader who is well-known and highly respected throughout the parking industry. She’ll play an important role in our continued success throughout the United States and Canada.”

Edmonton EXPO Centre Selects ParkMobile for Contactless Parking Payments –

“We are proud to partner with the Edmonton EXPO Centre to provide a safe and easy way to pay for parking at the venue,” Jon Ziglar, CEO of ParkMobile, said. “Plus, you can now make a parking reservation in advance and have a guaranteed spot waiting for you.

San Diego, CA – Ace Parking’s award-winning PARK FOR PINK campaign kicks off its fifth consecutive year of raising awareness and generating funds to aid in the fight against cancer.

This year, Ace is teaming up with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and the Ovarian Cancer Alliance in cities across America to help raise awareness and save lives. September is National Ovarian Cancer Month and October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During these two months, Ace is turning pink for breast cancer awareness as in previous years, and also teal, to represent the addition of ovarian cancer awareness to this year’s campaign.

To help raise awareness, Ace Parking teams across the country will participate in Ovarian Cancer Awareness events throughout September. In October, Ace will once again temporarily change many of its well-recognized parking lot signs to pink-colored PARK FOR PINK signage with a custom logo. Team members will wear pink wristbands with teal lettering to celebrate Ace Parking’s pledge. Additionally, the official Ace Parking website will have a custom design to support the cause.

During the months of September and October, each time a customer parks with Ace Parking, a portion of our parking proceeds will be donated to the fight against ovarian cancer.

PARK FOR PINK was inspired by my own family’s fight against cancer, as well as the struggle of many others in our Ace Parking family,” said Keith B. Jones, third generation Owner & Managing Partner of Ace Parking. “Because so many are directly or indirectly impacted by cancer, I am privileged to utilize Ace Parking as a platform to support those who are suffering, those who treat and support cancer patients, and those who are working to find the cures.”

For the last four years, the PARK FOR PINK program has generated over $250,000, which has been donated directly to organizations such as the Susan G. Komen® Foundation for breast cancer research, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to cure blood cancers, the American Cancer Society to help patients and their families, directly to oncology departments within hospitals, to the purchase of the da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system, and to other worthy organizations in their quest to find a cure and treat those who are challenged with the disease.

San Diego, CA – Ace Parking, a privately-held, nationwide operational and innovation specialist of valet parking, parking automation, transportation and event logistics services has recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for team members affected by Hurricane Harvey.
