LAX: PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CONNECTING TERMINAL 2 TO PARKING STRUCTURE 2A SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED

February 10, 2021

LAX: PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CONNECTING TERMINAL 2 TO PARKING STRUCTURE 2A SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED

Removal of the bridge clears the way for modernization construction to continue

The bridge removal was a two-night operation, with one half of the bridge being removed each night.

(LOS ANGELES, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced the successful removal of a pedestrian bridge linking Parking Structure 2A to Terminal 2 within the Los Angeles International (LAX) Airport Central Terminal Area (CTA). It was the third bridge removed as part of LAX’s modernization and clears the way for Terminal 2 connection to the Automated People Mover Center CTA station via an elevated pedestrian bridge in the future.

“For the second time in three months, our construction team successfully removed a pedestrian bridge, helping to pave the way for our continued modernization,” said Jake Adams, Deputy Executive Director, Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP). “Removing this bridge is the first of many major achievements in 2021, a year in which our monumental transformation will continue to come to life as we build a better LAX.”

In the days leading up to removal of the pedestrian bridge, which was originally construction as part of airport improvements made in preparation for the 1984 Olympic Games, crews removed concrete and roofing to lighten the bridge. Once that work was complete, shoring was constructed to support the structure as it was cut into two large sections. The sections were then removed via a 400-ton crane over the course of two evenings, the first during the early morning hours of Jan. 29 and the second during the early morning hours of Jan. 30. Each segment weighed more than 50,000 pounds.

Click on each of the images above to view time-lapse video of the bridge removal on night one (left) and night two (right).
After the bridge sections were removed, they were lowered onto a flatbed truck where they were dismantled before being hauled away.

This pedestrian bridge removal is the latest in a series of demolitions required to facilitate construction of the modernization projects. In May 2019, the first pedestrian bridge connecting Terminal 6 to Parking Structure 6 was removed. In November 2020, the pedestrian bridge connecting Terminal 3 to Parking Structure 3 was removed months before originally planned in order to leverage reduced traffic volume associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The centerpiece of LAWA’s Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), the APM is a 2.25-mile electric train system that will transport travelers in and out of the CTA, connecting them to new off-site parking facilities, regional light rail transportation and the Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility. The APM project is a critical investment into the infrastructure of Los Angeles as the city prepares to host the 2028 Olympic Games.

The APM will feature six stations: three stations inside the CTA, which connect to the terminals via elevated pedestrian walkways, and three stations outside the CTA, which will connect to new off-site parking facilities, regional light rail transportation and a Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility. The APM is expected to relieve congestion within the CTA and in turn the surrounding thoroughfares, thereby reducing emissions and vehicle miles traveled.

About Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

LAX, the third-busiest airport in the world and second busiest in the United States in 2019, is in the midst of a $14.3-billion capital improvement program that will touch on all nine passenger terminals and build new facilities, including an Automated People Mover (APM) train, Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility and a 12- to 15-gate Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) addition to the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

In 2019, LAX served nearly 88.1 million passengers and offered an average of 700 daily nonstop flights to 113 destinations in the U.S. and 1,200 weekly nonstop flights to 91 markets in 46 countries on 72 commercial airlines.

LAX generates 620,600 jobs in Southern California, with labor income of $37.3 billion and economic output (business revenues) of more than $126.6 billion, according to an economic study based on 2014 operations. This activity added $6.2 billion to local and state revenues and $8.7 billion in federal tax revenues. The study also reported that LAX’s ongoing capital improvement program creates an additional 121,640 annual jobs with labor income of $7.6 billion and economic output of $20.3 billion; $966 million in state and local taxes; and $1.6 billion in federal tax revenues.

LAX is part of a system of two Southern California airports – along with Van Nuys general aviation – that are owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary department of the City of Los Angeles that receives no funding from the City’s general fund.

LAWA is leading the aviation industry in sustainability practices, with initiatives related to water management, energy (electricity) management, air quality, recycling and natural resources management. In 2019, LAX received Level III ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation from Airport Councils International-Europe.

LAWA is also a leader in inclusivity, operating eight programs that provide opportunities for business enterprises including local, small, minority-owned, veteran-owned and disadvantaged firms, and working together with community partners to offer the HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program, which targets local workers to make them ready for rewarding careers in the construction trades, and the Build LAX Academy, designed to prepare small contracting businesses for success when working on projects at LAX.

LAX was named a top-10 U.S. airport by SKYTRAX in 2018, and was honored as the “Most Innovative Airport for Passenger Experience” in 2019 by the American Association of Airport Executives. LAX is the second-most popular airport in the world to appear on Instagram, according to wego.com. Other recent honors have included selection as the No. 9 Best Airport (Wall Street Journal); No. 7 Best On-Time Performance for a Mega-Hub Airport (OAG); one of “The World’s Best Airports for Business Travelers” (GlobeHunters); Public-Private Partnership of the Year (P3 Bulletin); Urth Caffe, Best Airport Coffee Concession of the Year (Global FAB Awards); Innovation of the Year, Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility (ARTBA); Best Project, United Airlines Terminal 7 and 8 Redevelopment Program (Engineering News Record California); North American Public-Private Partnership Deal of the Year (IJ Global); and Innovative Transportation Solution of the Year, Automated People Mover (WTS LA).

ParkNews.biz week of Jan 5th- 11th, 2021 – FlashParking, Arrive, Airport Travel, PT Plus and more …

January 11, 2021

ParkNews.biz week of Jan 5th- 11th, 2021 – FlashParking, Arrive, Airport Travel, PT Plus  and more …

This past week, the first week of the new year, the biggest news in Parking Industry were a merger of FlashParking and Arrive: Jan 5, 2021 – FlashParking and Arrive to Merge — Creating the First End-to-End Digital Mobility Platform Serving Consumers, Parking Operations, and Mobility Service Partners

Together, they are determined “to create a company designed to bring digital and touchless technologies to parking garages. The pandemic has accelerated the need for such services, the CEOs of both companies said in an interview, and the combined business aims to help garages with not just digital parking solutions, but a range of micro-mobility tools designed to reimagine what a parking garage can be.”

In the past year, despite the pandemic, FlashParking grew by 50%:  Currently, FlashParking has around 230 employees, while it had 150 at the start of 2020. And although Arrive went through some furloughs, currently they have more than 100 employees, thus the combine company has 330 persons.

The merger promises not to result in any layoffs.

Dan Sharplin, the CEO of FlashParking said: “Flash was born out of a need to digitize and modernize parking infrastructure,” and the merger was a “hand-in-glove fit.”

Arrive’s CEO Yona Shtern said: “This is a growth story not only for the company, but for the people within it.”

And speaking of growth, the best news story of this past week goes to Orlando International Airport and their volume of travel: Jan 11, 2021 – Orlando International Airport Had Most Departures in US During Holidays

“Economic forecasters say that where there’s an increase in travelers, there’s an increase in tourism dollars, and this could be a sign that things are looking up in 2021.

A couple of businesses along Orlando’s International Drive, in the tourist district, said this past holiday season brought much more business than they were expecting during the pandemic.

The travel numbers through OIA were much higher than airport officials anticipated, though they were down 42% from 2019’s holiday season, pre-pandemic.

That said, OIA shot past its departure passenger number predictions for this year by more than 100,000.

One economic expert said it’s a good sign, and not just for the airport.

“It presents, or indicates, a much more rapid recovery than I think was expected when we were at the worst of this pandemic, and there was virtually no passenger traffic at the airport,” said Sean Snaith, Director of UCF’s Institute for Economic Forecasting.”

This Sunday, I flew back from Fort Myers, FL via Charlotte, NC to LAX.  Through the pandemic, I have flown back and forth to Florida several times be it via Dallas or Charlotte.  Yesterday, the airports in Fort Myers, FL and in Charlotte, were packed.  Way busier than anytime I have seen it in the past 7 months.  The restaurants in Charlotte, bars and shops were especially full.  Everyone was wearing masks yet, there seemed eagerness and hope for normal travel to resume and for life to blossom again.

And to go on, we must.  With common sense but courage to keep on living and thriving.  Thus, this past week, we have created Parking Today Plus: Jan 6, 2021 – Parking Today Announces “PT Plus”

“Parking Today announces that membership is now open in PT Plus. This membership enables companies to provide an unlimited number of news releases to be posted on Parknews.biz plus have them digitally printed in our online issue of Parking Today each month.”

Therefore, we are looking forward to your news releases and  to this new digital section – news hub as what is happening within your company.

Have a wonderful and blessed new week.

Sincerely,

Parking Network Bring the Airport Parking Network Event 2020 Online

Parking Network Bring the Airport Parking Network Event 2020 Online

Registration Is Now Open!

Airport parking has always been a key aspect of the airport business model and can account for up a quarter of total operating revenue. There have been many shifts in airport parking over the years and Parking Network has sought to keep both Airport Parking Managers and Solution and Service providers abreast of these with their Airport Parking Network Event (APNE).

APNE has given the whole airport parking community an opportunity to stay connected for the last 11 years. Previous events have been held across Europe from London to Paris, from Germany to Sweden and even in Parking Network’s headquartered country, the Netherlands.

The event offers plentiful networking opportunities and interactive workshops hosted by Experts in all types of Airport Parking. One of the major highlights is the Airport Parking Manager’s discussion in which Airport Managers can get together to share and learn about both their airports and those across the world. In 2019, over 250 airports worldwide were represented in the biggest airport event to date.

As unforeseen circumstances in 2020 have greatly impacted the airport parking vertical and with business travel being stalled, Parking Network have decided to ‘virtualize’ APNE to keep the Airport Community together. One of the main USPs of APNE has always been the personalization of programs. This year is no different and airport registrants can create their very own agenda based on the elements that interest them most.

Airports are invited to join the Virtual APNE 2020 to stay connected with their peers, join Expert workshops and talk one-to-one with service and solution providers who can understand and provide suggestions for improvements on airport parking facilities. Jorrit Weerman, CEO of Parking Network states: “We are dedicated to connecting parking professionals worldwide. Whilst the situation now is difficult for all in our industry, we will continue to strive to provide high-quality events and service to our whole community”.

Don’t miss your chance to join the 12th edition of this prestigious event now! Go to www.parkingevent.com to find out more.

About Parking Network

Parking Network is an online community, founded in 1996 in cooperation with the EPA. It was the first online information source for every professional in the parking industry. “Connecting professionals worldwide” has been our vision from the start.

At the Parking Network community we connect parking professionals worldwide and provide the latest developments in the parking industry. From daily updated news to product showcases, job vacancies, tenders, upcoming events, literature and 1700 companies indexed in the Yellow Pages for the parking industry worldwide.

Today Parking Network has grown into the world’s largest information source on parking and even organizes its own user group events. Many leading companies from the parking industry worldwide choose Parking Network as their marketing platform. The IPMI, NPA and many more major associations support Parking Network.

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS’ BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS APPROVES FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH SKANSKA FOR ROADWAYS, UTILITIES AND ENABLING PROJECTS

September 04, 2020

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS’ BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS APPROVES FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH SKANSKA FOR ROADWAYS, UTILITIES AND ENABLING PROJECTS

Contract includes several key individual projects and enabling work directly related to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Landside Access Modernization Program

98th Street (above) will be extended to the 405 freeway as part of this project contract.

(Los Angeles) Today, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved the selection of Skanska USA Civil West California District, Inc. as the Design-Builder for the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Roadways, Utilities and Enabling (RUE) project. RUE will be responsible for several key individual projects and enabling work directly related to the Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP).

“The projects to be delivered through this agreement with our partner Skanska are an integral part of delivering our LAMP program and other major capital improvements that will transform the LAX experience,” said Justin Erbacci, CEO, LAWA. “These projects also will allow LAWA to continue leading the way in creating opportunities for small and local businesses.”

The five-year $334.9 million contract will provide for the next phase of enabling projects for the LAMP, focusing on high-priority projects necessary to support the Automated People Mover (APM), Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility and Intermodal Transportation Facility (ITF)-West. The first phase of work, the LAWA Utility and LAMP Enabling Project (LULEP), wrapped up in May after completion of 38 various projects to support the LAMP.

The RUE project includes 16 different projects. The highlight is the 98th Street extension, which will extend that roadway from where it currently ends at Bellanca Avenue to the 405 Freeway, where improvements to the southbound freeway on- and off-ramps will also be completed. RUE also includes new wayfinding signage, which will be pivotal in helping travelers navigate the new LAX landscape once the LAMP is completed.

Utility relocations are already underway in preparation for extending 98th Street to the 405 freeway.

The contract also requires strong commitments to business and workforce inclusion. Skanska must meet LAWA’S business inclusion requirements, which call for Skanska to subcontract no less than 20% of the contract value to Small Business Enterprises, 7% to Local Business Enterprises, 3% to Local, Small Business Enterprises and 3% to Disabled Veterans Business Enterprises.

Additionally, no less than 30% of the project’s construction workforce must be residents of the local area, inclusive of the City of LA, Inglewood, Lennox, and other adjacent communities. There is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with organizations serving the airport impact area population, including LAWA’s own HireLAX. The contract also features a project-specific community benefits agreement that includes enhanced efforts to hire local and disadvantaged workers, including those who are launching careers after past involvement in the criminal justice system.

Park Assist Chosen to Provide a New, High-End Parking Experience at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport

June 03, 2020

Park Assist Chosen to Provide a New, High-End Parking Experience at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport

LOUISVILLE, KY – June 3rd, 2020 – Park Assist® has been awarded the Parking Guidance System (PGS) contract for Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). Just 10 minutes from downtown, the International Airport supports over 4 million travelers per year with a high-volume of both passenger and cargo traffic. Park Assist’s M4 smart-sensor system will serve the airport’s 3,000 space parking structure. With the goal of enhancing the user experience, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority was eager to install a PGS that offered predictability and security, as well as a VIP parking journey for each patron.

Park Assist’s camera-based M4 PGS will monitor occupancy on levels 2 and 3 of the garage, while the S1 outdoor solution will be used to calculate rooftop availability. Along with the M4 and S1 technology, Park Assist will also install its state-of-the-art, digital Variable Messaging Signs (VMS). The VMS-NAV signs enable parking facility operators to create and broadcast an expansive set of custom graphics and digital messages in a variety of different colors. Coupled with split screen, scrolling, and toggling capabilities, these digital signs display a vast array of occupancy data, enabling visitors to make informed decisions upon their arrival at the entry lanes.

As wayfinding signage guides users to appropriate parking areas within the garage, Park Assist’s exclusive M4 smart-sensor system amplifies the guidance experience by indicating which specific spaces are available, occupied, or premium using color-coded LED lights.

Additionally, the airport’s PGS will also come equipped with several add-on features. Integrating with TIBA Parking Systems, Park Assist’s customer-centric Park Finder™software module ensures that guests can easily pinpoint their vehicle upon returning to the garage. Utilizing either the Park Assist mobile app or a Park Finder enabled TIBA pay station, travelers are guided to the exact location of their vehicle. The Park Finder Find Your Car™ locator scours a database of vehicles in the garage and identifies the correct car, providing step-by-step directions on how to get there.

Park Assist’s Park Alerts™ and Park Surveillance™ add-ons will be used to increase control and security in the garage. The Park Alerts software extension allows parking management to set automated rules and alerts that help staff manage awareness and enforce parking policies in the facility, while Park Assist’s Park Surveillance module enables the M4 and S1 sensors to capture streaming video of any movement in or around parking spaces, serving as a proven deterrent of criminal behaviors.

“Park Assist is committed to providing each traveler at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport with accurate, real-time information that will help inform their parking decisions and further reduce friction on both sides of the customer journey. At the forefront of a world connected by technology, Park Assist is committed to creating an end-to-end experience through our PARCS system integrations and additional API capabilities,” said Robert Wishart, Regional Account Manager, Northeast.

Working with local partner, United Electric, Park Assist’s site work is set to begin this month and is slated for completion by September 2020.

“We are proactively preparing for the return of our customers and this technology will significantly improve the parking experience at SDF,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority.

Prior to the planned work at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, Park Assist has been a coveted addition to several other major airports throughout the United States and Canada. Park Assist’s continued and proven success, as well as their growing technological capabilities and dynamic pricing integrations were key factors in Louisville Regional Airport Authority’s decision to install the M4 and S1 parking guidance systems.

EXPERIENCE LAX’S AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER IN VIRTUAL REALITY

Six virtual reality models showcase the future of LAX on your smartphone

A view of the West Central Terminal Area Station (l); a view of the Intermodal Transportation
Facility – West Station (r).
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today released virtual reality models of the future Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Automated People Mover (APM) project. Accessible via smartphones, these interactive models include views of and from within the system’s three Central Terminal Area (CTA) stations and two Intermodal Transportation Facility (ITF) stations.

“Although the Automated People Mover train is still a few years of heavy construction away from being operational, technology lets us experience the future of LAX today,” said Justin Erbacci, Interim Chief Executive Officer. “The virtual reality experience shows the vision of a fully-connected LAX that will help solidify our airport’s status as a Gold Standard, world-class facility.”

The models offer a glimpse into the integrated campus design of the APM system, which honors the heritage and history of the CTA and the iconic Theme Building with its mid-century modern design aesthetic.  Featuring clean lines, airy and light-filled corridors, structural glass walls and high-performance coated metal panel cladding, the APM’s stations will create visual continuity throughout the LAX campus. The stations’ canopies cantilever and taper out 20 feet on each side of the roof, creating a floating appearance, and their smooth white metal finish improves the building’s heat island effect. Station platforms are lit via six 20-foot diameter circular skylights in the roof structure, which provide both filtered daylight and night time illumination from energy efficient LED fixtures emitting light from both above and below the canopy.

The new virtual reality models can be accessed by scanning a Quick Response (QR) Code with a smartphone, which will direct the viewer to one of six models of the stations. Viewers can also enhance the experience with the use of 3D glasses.

Click here to access printable QR Codes and scan to view select models of East CTA, Center CTA, West CTA, ITF-East and ITF-West stations.

The APM, a 2.25 mile elevated electric train system that will transport travelers in and out of the LAX CTA is the centerpiece of LAWA’s LAMP project. The APM will feature six stations: three stations inside the CTA, which connect to the terminals via elevated pedestrian walkways, and three stations outside the CTA, which will connect to new off-site parking facilities, regional light rail transportation and a Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) Facility. Scheduled to open for passenger service in 2023, the APM is expected to relieve congestion within the CTA and in turn the surrounding thoroughfares, thereby reducing emissions and vehicle miles traveled.

MAYOR GARCETTI AND LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS BREAK GROUND ON HISTORIC CONSOLIDATED RENTAL CAR FACILITY

MAYOR GARCETTI AND LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS BREAK GROUND ON HISTORIC CONSOLIDATED RENTAL CAR FACILITY

Once completed in 2023, the $2 billion transit hub will be the largest facility of its kind in the world with a vehicle leaving every two seconds at peak operations

Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) Commissioner Bea Hsu, BOAC Commissioner Gabriel Eshaghian, BOAC Vice President Valeria Velasco, BOAC President Sean Burton, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Chief Executive Officer Deborah Flint, Councilmember Joe Buscaino, Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Mike Bonin, Deputy Mayor Billy Chun, Director of Economic Infrastructure -Office of Mayor Garcetti David Reich, LAWA Chief Operating Officer Justin Erbacci, LAWA Chief Development Officer Bernardo Gogna and LAX ConRAC Partners Project Executive Karl Schaefer.

(Los Angeles, CA) Mayor Eric Garcetti broke ground today on the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which will centralize rental car operations into one convenient location and offer a direct connection to the upcoming Automated People Mover (APM) train. The Mayor was joined at the ceremony by Councilmembers Mike Bonin and Joe Buscaino, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) President Sean Burton, and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) CEO Deborah Flint, as well as community and labor leaders.

“We are building the world-class airport travelers need and deserve — and the Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility groundbreaking demonstrates how we’re keeping this promise,” said Mayor Garcetti. “Our city is doing so much more than building a parking structure — we are making an investment that will improve the traveling experience, reduce congestion in surrounding neighborhoods, and create middle-class careers for years to come.”

Since taking office, Mayor Garcetti has led a more than $14 billion transformation of LAX that began in 2009. Mayor Garcetti’s historic infrastructure investments have strengthened working families and the middle class. Under his leadership, unemployment has been cut in half while close to 200,000 new jobs have been created. Construction of the ConRAC is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs.

The 5.3 million square foot ConRAC facility will feature 18,000 parking stalls with 6,600 ready/return spaces, 10,000 idle vehicle storage spaces, and 1,100 rental car employee spaces as well as visitor parking. A Quick-Turn Around facility will also be on-site, allowing for fueling, washing, and light maintenance of rental car vehicles.

Mayor Eric Garcetti provides remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony.

Reducing congestion at LAX — as well as in surrounding communities — is at the heart of the ConRAC project. The consolidated facility will completely remove rental car shuttle traffic from the Central Terminal Area (CTA), which equates to 3,200 shuttle trips per day. The removal of the shuttles will improve traffic on the roadways and free up critical curbside boarding space in the CTA.

“This is a big step toward LAX becoming a world-class airport for travelers and a first-class neighbor to Westchester and Playa del Rey,” said Councilmember Mike Bonin. “Especially once it is connected to the new Automated People Mover, this new Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility will reduce the number of shuttles and vans navigating the Central Terminal Area and nearby neighborhoods, improving both local traffic and air quality. That is a big win and exciting progress to celebrate.”

“This has been a momentous year for LAX,” said Councilmember Joe Buscaino. “LAX continues to move full steam ahead with its $14 billion investment to create a fully transformed airport of the future. The ConRAC is just one of the many groundbreakings held this year which highlight the efforts LAX is making to improve passenger experience which increases tourism and improves our local economy.”

As the second largest rental car market among domestic airports, the ConRAC will improve and streamline the car rental process at LAX. The facility will be built with an eye to the future and designed to accommodate new and emerging vehicle types such as autonomous vehicles. Additionally, movable concrete barriers will allow for the quick reallocation of space as rental car companies’ market shares shift.

The ConRAC is an important component of the Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), which also includes an Automated People Mover train that will connect travelers directly to airport terminals and create new and convenient locations for passenger pick-up and drop-off outside the Central Terminal Area. Once completed in 2023, the APM will connect with L.A. Metro’s light rail system.

“The ConRAC Facility will provide a rental car experience worthy of a world-class airport,” said BOAC President Sean Burton. “This project doesn’t just benefit those renting cars — it benefits the local economy and community through the creation of 1,000 jobs and by relieving vehicle congestion on the roads in and around LAX.”

“We are future-proofing everything we build at LAX,” said Deborah Flint, CEO, LAWA. “Every project under construction or on the drawing board will meet our needs now and be capable of adapting to new technology and demands. The ConRAC Facility is a prime example of how to future-proof so we can protect our investments.”

On October 26, 2018, the Los Angeles City Council approved an approximately $2 billion public-private partnership between LAWA and LAX ConRAC Partners (LAXCP), with LAXCP designing, building, financing, operating, and maintaining the facility for a 28-year period. LAXCP has committed to 30% local hiring, which exceeds local hiring requirements, and together with LAWA is developing opportunities for local small businesses. LAXCP has also agreed to sponsor 100 new, local apprentices and feature all-union labor on the ConRAC facility.

“Collectively, the LAXCP team has extensive experience designing, building, and operating nearly 30 ConRACs domestically and internationally,” said Karl Schaefer, LAXCP Project Executive. “We are proud to use our shared know how to help LAWA create a top tier experience for the traveling public at LAX while we honor our commitment to provide local hire economic opportunities and environmental sustainability.”

Mayor Garcetti has made sustainability a priority of his administration. The ConRAC facility is designed to reflect Los Angeles’ standing as one of the world’s leading sustainable cities and will include native drought-tolerant landscaping, reclaimed water usage, more than 200 Level 2 electric vehicle chargers, and a solar farm generating over 8,400 megawatt hours annually.
