“APCOA and XPERT see the merger of these two companies as an opportunity to enhance and further expand our customer service strength in Sweden. With Zoran Ackovski and Klime Taskoski, we welcome the two former owners of XPERT joining our team. They both have a well-established track record in the parking industry and we look forward to working with them in the future. APCOA PARKING launches first public private mobility hub

  • APCOA FLOW digital mobility platform gives access to new mobility hubs

  • Platform supports the steady growth of car sharing fleets with access and payment services to off-street parking

Berlin, 19 June 2019Europe’s leading parking space manager, APCOA PARKING, joined forces with Berlin’s public transport company, BVG, and a host of other partners to open a new intermodal mobility hub. With the first public private and fully integrated mobility hub right next to a highly frequented underground and commuter rail station, switching from local public transport to shared individual mobility (and vice versa) couldn’t be simpler or more convenient. Access to the new mobility hub is restricted to users of the APCOA FLOW digital mobility platform.

The new hub connects all types of mobility, spanning public and private operators, and allows Berliners to use different kinds of mobility modes seamlessly in one place. The car sharing vehicles from Mobileeee, Oply and Miles are equipped with RFID chips that communicate directly with FLOW to automatically open the car park’s barriers. With the RFID chips of APCOA FLOW, users also have access to over 200 APCOA car parks with more than 100,000 parking spaces across Germany. Customers can seamlessly enter, leave and make cashless payments without the need for tickets. Thus, APCOA is providing a platform for the steady growth of car sharing fleets, including over 2,000 vehicles in Berlin alone.

“Our partnership with the BVG is a perfect fit with APCOA’s strategy of combining parking with urban mobility, intelligently and conveniently. By transforming our parking space into an intermodal mobility hub, we are creating a central platform for new mobility services”, explains Philippe Op De Beeck, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group. “In Berlin, we combine APCOA FLOW with the resources of a public transportation company and thus put our platform to public use”.

Currently, APCOA FLOW has already been implemented in nine European countries. “APCOA FLOW is our answer to key societal trends, such as urbanisation and digitalisation, and to the emergence of entirely new mobility concepts that are changing the economic fundamentals of the parking industry. And the range of functions offered by APCOA FLOW right now is just the beginning – we have designed the system so that additional services can be easily added and flexibly integrated,” says Op de Beeck.

APCOA PARKING Group: Project start in the Braunschweig research car park

APCOA PARKING Group: Project start in the Braunschweig research car park

Full-coverage autonomous parking soon to be a reality

Braunschweig, 28 November 2018Under the auspices of the newly launched SynCoPark project (synergies from cooperation and standardisation in manufacturer-independent automated parking), researchers from the Technische UniversitätBraunschweig have joined forces with parking industry representatives to ensure that standardisation of parking processes will soon make autonomous parking (more) widely available.

To achieve this aim, the newly-built, multi-storey research car park at Braunschweig Airport has been equipped with digital infrastructure, turning it into a test area for parking processes at various levels of automation and using specially-equipped research vehicles for real-time demonstrations.

The tests carried out so far have involved standardised hardware and specific vehicle/infrastructure combinations, which have been carefully developed through close cooperation between OEMs, suppliers and infrastructure service providers.

The joint project SynCoPark wants to go the extra mile and develop standardised solutions for the qualification and certification of digital infrastructure in multi-storey car parks and vehicles. This will enable parking processes to be performed at different levels of automation, irrespective of the vehicle manufacturer, infrastructure service provider and car park operator.

This makes it possible not only to design technical equipment for new multi-storey car parks, but also to retrofit existing multi-storey car parks so that they too can also offer automated parking processes.

The project is also focussing on other aspects: The future use of multi-storey car parks as mobility hubs for transporting people and goods will open up new economic opportunities, which will be examined in terms of business field and business model development. The researchers are also considering legal questions, such as requirements for contractual relationships, liability and road user behaviour.

In order to highlight how intermodal transportation hubs can benefit from standardised and advanced infrastructures, the Elbphilharmonie multi-storey car park in Hamburg is to be equipped with this new infrastructure in the run-up to the 2021 ITS World Congress and the project’s achievements are to be on full display to capture the public’s imagination.

The SynCoPark project has received EUR 2.5 million in funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure’s research programme “Automation and Networking in Road Traffic”.

The consortium is being led by the Automotive Research Centre of Lower Saxony (Niedersächsisches Forschungszentrum Fahrzeugtechnik) (NFF) at the TU Braunschweig, the Institut für Fahrzeugtechnik (IfF), the Institut für Automobilwirtschaft und Industrielle Produktion (AIP) and the Forschungsstelle Mobilitätsrecht. The project’s partners also include APCOA PARKING Deutschland GmbH, EDAG Engineering GmbH, GOLDBECK GmbH, NavCert GmbH and PRETHERM GmbH. The project’s associate partners are Allianz für die Region GmbH, ITS Deutschland GmbH, Leica Geosystems GmbH, Volkswagen AG and the BMW Group.

Traffic flow and Parking access control simplified by use of TagMaster ANPR cameras in 30 Norwegian airports

Press release, Stockholm, October 10, 2018

TagMaster, leading supplier of advanced sensor systems for Smart Cities, has delivered their CitySync ANPR cameras for use in 30 airports in Norway in cooperation with APCOA Parking Norway. Totally 400 ANPR cameras has been deployed in order to facilitate entry and exit of numerous parking facilities at the airports.

The cameras were installed as part of the APCOA CPMS (Car Park Management System) which is using ANPR cameras to identify vehicles entering and exiting the car parking facilities at the airports.

The goal with the project is to digitalize the traffic flow and parking at the airports. There are high demands on system functionality, as many of the airports are located at the coastline of Norway, with rough weather conditions and the North Sea almost hitting the runways. Projects cater for multifaceted solutions, with many different car parks used for several purposes and intricate demands.

“We are proud of having been chosen by APCOA as supplier for this new and exciting installation of our CitySync ANPR cameras. The use of ANPR technology for vehicle identification provides new and interesting features for the parking industry and we are happy to be part of this large and complex project” , says Jonas Svensson, CEO, TagMaster.

APCOA’s Royal-Hamilius car park opens to the public in Luxembourg

October 05, 2018

APCOA’s Royal-Hamilius car park opens to the public in Luxembourg

  • The new, multi-storey underground car park has opened its doors

  • Situated below Place Emile Hamilius, the new underground parking facility provides spaces for 628 vehicles

  • In close collaboration with the City of Luxembourg and CODIC, APCOA is responding to strong demand for parking spaces in the heart of the city

Stuttgart / Luxembourg – APCOA PARKING Group opened 27 September 2018 its new Royal-Hamilius multi-storey underground car park in the centre of Luxembourg City. Thanks to APCOA, visitors to Luxembourg’s city centre now have 628 new parking spaces at their disposal, in a modern, safe and highly functional environment.

Philippe Op de Beeck, Chief Executive Officer APCOA PARKING Holding and Detlef Wilmer, Managing Director of APCOA PARKING Deutschland GmbH, which played a key role in the new car park’s development, are delighted that residents and visitors to central Luxembourg will now be able to experience APCOA’s exceptional services. Together with Thierry Behiels, CEO of CODIC International, and Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, they inaugurated the latest addition to APCOA’s family of multi-story parking facilities after the ceremonial cutting of the red ribbon. The festivities were also attended by Patrick Goldschmidt, the alderman responsible for mobility, and Serge Wilmes, 1st alderman and responsible for economic development and trade.

“The inauguration of the Royal-Hamilius underground parking facility marks the opening our first multi-storey car park in Luxembourg, in the heart of Luxembourg City, in one of the country’s central mobility hubs. The car park has thus been designed to provide a seamlessly integrated, innovative parking solution. In addition, the advanced traffic management system that we developed jointly with the city will help further optimise traffic flows in the city centre, and efficiently guide drivers directly to their designated parking spaces”, said Detlef Wilmer.

“For the City of Luxembourg, the opening of the Royal-Hamilius underground car park crowns the important first stage of a major urban development project. Accessibility to the heart of the city will be greatly improved by these new parking facilities, as will access and use of public transport and soft mobility(i.e. human powered, non-motorised mobility) options. With the creation of these 628 new parking spaces, 400 of which are reserved for the general public, the total number of available parking spaces in the city centre will increase to 3,400, with a total of 14,000 in the City of Luxembourg as a whole”, explained Lydie Polfer.

An initial, but major first step

The underground parking facility is one of the key features of Royal-Hamilius and has been developed beneath the building complex. The multi-storey car park has six levels and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The spaces are modern and bright, and include the ample provision of parking spaces for women and families, as well as parking for people with reduced mobility. The underground car park has six parking spaces with electric vehicle charging points.

“We are proud to of the fact that this trend-setting, premium, multi-storey car park is now available to the public. Visitors will appreciate the high level of comfort, and enjoy a pleasant and convenient parking experience thanks to the extended range of integrated services”, said Wilmer.

Car park and art gallery in one

“In addition to fulfilling its primary function as an underground car park, this facility also serves as an art gallery. In keeping with the uniqueness of the project, the walls of each parking level have been decorated with works of art, thereby enriching the urban street art scene and making the car park well worth a visit for the art alone”, said Mayor Polfer.

The new, multi-storey car park is not only home to desperately needed parking space, it is also the first extraordinary art installation to be made accessible in the public space of an underground car park. Six artists, Valentina Canseco, Gaëtan Henrioux, Kosta Kulundzic, Dorothée Recker, Axel Sanson and Lise Stoufflet, designed exclusive frescos for each of the underground car park’s six levels. The frescos were unveiled during the opening ceremony and can now be viewed by visitors to the car park, thereby combing the functionality of an underground car park with the artistic flair of a public art gallery.

“For me, art and architecture are inextricably linked. I want their interplay to be a distinguishing feature of CODIC International’s projects. Royal Hamilius is a work of art in its own right: the architects, Foster & Partners and Tetra Kayser & Associés, have designed remarkable facades featuring only the highest quality materials, while the interiors have been designed by Nathalie Jacoby and her team of young designers at Njoy. Tobias Link is creating an absolutely magical Royal Hamilius at night. Landscaping will be meticulously planned and the main business areas will be flooded with light thanks to the property’s glass roof. CODIC International has been involved in every detail, from the Sky Restaurant to the multi-storey car park”, explained Thierry Behiels.

About Royal-Hamilius

Royal-Hamilius is an iconic development, creating a unique combination of retail, offices, apartments and gastronomy in the heart of Luxembourg City. Major retail brands, including the classic French department store Galeries Lafayette and the media, leisure and cultural retailer Fnac have taken major leases and will soon be opening their first ever stores in Luxembourg. Royal-Hamilius will also be home to the Sky Garden, a rooftop garden and restaurant with panoramic views over central Luxembourg.

APCOA PARKING Enters Strategic Partnership with Indian Startup GET MY PARKING to Enhance Smart Parking Portfolio

  • Collaboration leads to digital customer solutions for connecting parking with consumer mobility
  • Technology to integrate parking equipment with cloud based IoT to bring all APCOA parking lots across 13 countries onto a standard, interoperable platform
  • Open platform will enable new partnerships and business models across smart city and connected mobility ecosystem
  • Recently launched APCOA FLOW app in Germany is the first of the many outputs to be powered by this platform

Stuttgart/Delhi, 30 May 2018 – APCOA PARKING, Europe’s leading parking operator, has entered into a strategic partnership with GET MY PARKING (GMP), India’s principal smart parking startup, to customize and deploy an open IoT platform that provides a seamless mobility experience across all parking touchpoints. This digital platform will be scaled to all 13 countries in which APCOA operates more than 1.4 million car spaces at over 9000 locations. It is an interoperable platform, integrating varied parking equipment and connecting parking spaces to cars to create an overall mobility experience. This enables APCOA to provide the latest consumer solutions such as their recently launched mobile app APCOA FLOW (www.apcoa.de/flow), which includes ticketless automated access and cashless exit and will soon be enhanced by pre-booking options and on-street parking payment functions.

“This strategic partnership enables us to develop our digital platform and new products very quickly and cost-effectively. We are therefore in a position to offer our customers additional value:The GMP technology works with existing barrier technologies in older car parks, eliminating the need to purchase a new parking system. And the digital platform’s enhanced compatibility means that we can launch many new services and partnerships in the near future,” said Philippe Op de Beeck, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group.

“We are very excited about this collaboration, as it gives us a huge start in growing our international footprint. APCOA is the undisputed European market leader and we could not have asked for a better partner to enter the western parking market,” said Chirag Jain, CEO GET MY PARKING. Co-founder CMO Rasik Pansare added, “APCOA’s scale and size is the dream opportunity for testing our technology expertise. It is an ambitious project and our team is ready for the responsibility to assist millions of European motorists.”

This partnership is a marriage of operations and technology expertise, with APCOA’s experience and scale complimenting GMP’s innovation and agility. With such synergies, both expect to grow markedly in their own domains. GMP envisages learning a great deal from the advanced parking market of Europe and implementing that in the early-stage parking industry of India, thereby accelerating the smart parking ecosystem of India.Based on the new technology, APCOA will offer more customer-focused services while at the same time contributing to the smart city ecosystem with innovative solutions to help meet the many challenges facing modern cities.

The proprietary open platform is modular and future-proof, meaning it can be used in various capacities as per requirements and new capabilities can be integrated without affecting existing services. Offers from providers of other services like car sharing services, car rental companies, e-charging stations or parcel delivery services can be easily integrated into the platform, making the parking experience even more convenient. The first platform driven cooperation was entered into with Sunhill Technologies GmbH, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services AG (VWFS): Together with APCOA, they now offer customers of all VW Group brands contactless entry and exit, as well as automated billing of parking processes in the background.

APCOA PARKING revolutionises parking across Germany

Innovative digital platform APCOA FLOW sets new benchmarks for European parking industry

  • New app makes parking quicker, easier and more convenient: No tickets. No cash. No s
  • Available at 200 selected car parks with more than 100,000 parking spaces across Germany at launch
  • Additional functions such as reservation and booking of parking spaces, as well as payment for on-street parking in the pipeline
  • APCOA plans roll-out in 12 further European markets
  • Open, central and scalable platform for all of Europe enables new partnerships and business models in the smart city ecosystem
  • RFID chip connects cars and car parks to create the most comprehensive, truly connected car offering in Germany

Stuttgart, 3 May 2018APCOAPARKING, Europe’s leading parking facility manager, has successfully launched its new app, APCOA FLOW (apcoa.de/flow), which is based on the company’s proprietary digital platform for all European markets. At launch, customers can seamlessly enter, leave and make cashless payments without the need for tickets at 200 selected APCOA car parks with more than 100,000 parking spaces across Germany. The app also serves as a navigation system, identifying and guiding the driver to the most convenient car park for their final destination. Thanks to RFID technology, the car park recognizes the vehicle and opens the barriers automatically. This means that parking tickets, the hunt for spare change and the need to queue at a pay station are all a thing of the past.

“APCOA FLOW opens up an entirely new digital parking experience which is unique in this form: The combination of new services and a large number of car parks across the whole of Germany, combined with the open, central and scalable digital platform behind it, make APCOA FLOW the most comprehensive connected car offering in the parking sector. We are setting completely new standards for the entire industry,” said Philippe Op de Beeck, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group. The company is now planning to equip all of APCOA’s 300 or so car parks in Germany with APCOA FLOW, thereby making more than 230,000 parking spaces more easily accessible to customers throughout the country.

Parking becomes a seamless extension of individual mobility

“We are very proud to have created APCOA FLOW, a system that is, at launch, already the most comprehensive smart parking solution for car parks in Germany. With the app and platform, we are revolutionising our customers’ parking experience. Thanks to APCOA FLOW, parking becomes a seamless extension of the mobility experience for the very first time. With APCOA FLOW, we are offering our users more comfort, a greater sense of security and, ultimately, freedom and time for the more important things in life,” explained Detlef Wilmer, Managing Director of APCOA PARKING Deutschland GmbH.

Customers can download the APCOA FLOW app from both the Google PlayStore and App Store, register their account and order their personal APCOA FLOW RFID chip for their windscreen. It is this RFID technology that automatically opens a car park’s barriers as the car approaches. Every single parking process is precisely recorded by the system and charged to the registered credit card. Customers can view their accounts at any time, thanks to the system’s completely transparent overview of all parking processes.

The user begins by entering their destination, at which point the app quickly and intuitively displays the nearest APCOA FLOW car parks. Once the user has selected the most convenient car park, the app navigates them directly to their destination. APCOA FLOW makes it easy to park anywhere, even in a city the driver has little or no knowledge of. The app displays prices, opening hours and capacity of parking spaces in each car park, along with other useful information, such as accessibility, access heights and the availability of EV charging stations.

Wilmer sums up the app’s advantages: “APCOA FLOW makes parking quicker and more convenient: Simply park. No ticket. No cash. No stress.”

New partnerships, further functions and pan-European launch

Equipped with an API interface, the digital platform’s enhanced compatibility means that a large number of new services and partnerships can be launched in the near future. The first comprehensive cooperation agreement was concluded with sunhill technologies GmbH, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services AG (VWFS). As a result of this partnership, VW Group customers can now enjoy contactless entry and exit and automated payment processing.

“VW is the first automobile manufacturer to join APCOA on our strategic journey to the future of parking. Thanks to our RFID chips, customers’ vehicles are networked with our car parks, which makes FLOW the most widely available, truly connected car service on the market,” added Op de Beeck.

APCOA is currently in talks with car sharing service providers, car rental companies and electric vehicle charging station operators. Parcel delivery services can also be easily integrated into the app, making the parking experience even more convenient. For owners who operate their own car parks and do not want to bear the significant investment costs of developing such a system themselves, APCOA’s innovative platform offers a future-proof digital solution.

At the same time, the company is working on expanding its own service portfolio. “And the range of functions offered by APCOA FLOW at launch is just the beginning – we have designed the system so that additional services can be easily added and flexibly integrated. This will allow us to continually expand the range of services we offer our customers, thereby ensuring that we are ideally equipped for the future,” says Philippe Op de Beeck, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group. Specifically, the reservation and advance booking of parking spaces, as well as the integration of barrier-free parking areas and street parking spaces, are in progress.

Following the successful market launch in Germany, the system will soon be rolled out in other European countries, starting with Italy, then Sweden, Austria and Norway. By 2019, customers in each of APCOA’S 13 European markets should be able to use the new service.

Disruption in the parking industry: seizing the opportunity of digitalisation

“APCOA FLOW is our answer to key societal trends, such as urbanisation and digitalisation, and to the emergence of entirely new mobility concepts that are changing the economic fundamentals of the parking industry. The specially developed platform and app are the fruits of intensive collaboration with our German suppliers and an Indian start-up company. In conjunction with the open, centralised and scalable platform, the app is an important step in transforming APCOA PARKING into an even more customer-oriented company. Our goal is to help shape the future of individual mobility,” explained Op de Beeck.

The aim of the new system is to offer customer-focused services while at the same time contributing to the smart city ecosystem with innovative solutions to help meet the many challenges facing modern cities: from cutting CO2 emissions by significantly reducing the volume of vehicles searching for parking spaces, to controlling traffic flows and seamlessly integrating different forms of mobility using intelligent digital solutions such as APCOA FLOW.

European airport parking reservation leader, ParkCloud, has agreed a contract to offer the official multi-storey car parks, operated by parking facility operator APCOA PARKING Deutschland GmbH, to its passengers flying from Berlin Schönefeld. The cooperation between ParkCloud and APCOA PARKING is part of APCOA’s aspiration to provide clients with the best service possible as the concessionaire for airport operator Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.

The new deal enables ParkCloud’s near 3 million users to book spaces at Berlin Schönefeld’s most popular parking areas located a couple of minutes’ walk from terminals A and B, comprising 820 spaces across five levels, and available 24 hours a day.

Haakon R. Holm, Vice President Commercial Marketing at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, said: “We want to enable as many customers as possible to use our wide range of car parking facilities. By working together with APCOA PARKING and ParkCloud, our passengers can now also secure their car park whilst booking a flight or directly via www.parkcloud.com, with prices starting as low as 19 € per week.”

In addition, and especially given the airport’s status as a hub for low cost airlines, an even more compelling offer for travellers seeking the best parking price has been secured by the ParkCloud team. The new Berlin Brandenburg Airport, located a short drive from the existing Schönefeld terminal but not scheduled to open until late 2020, is the site of one of APCOA´S brand-new multi-storey car parks: P3, which offers ultra-low-cost parking in a top-quality facility.

With P3 APCOA PARKING combines 24-hour opening with a free seven-minute shuttle service every 30 minutes to ensure that those travelling on leisure get the best of both worlds when deciding where to leave their vehicle whilst away.

With more than 33 million passengers recorded in 2017, Berlin has reaffirmed its status as Germany’s third largest airport market, surpassed only by Munich and Frankfurt. With rising demand for travel to and from the capital anticipated for the future, the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport will bolster international travel links for passengers worldwide.

Mark Pegler, Managing Director at ParkCloud, said: “With travellers from Berlin flying to a total of 195 destinations in 2017, the need for reliable support services that allow passengers to choose and plan their airport experience is paramount – which is where ParkCloud can assist.
“Working together with renowned parking operator APCOA and airport operator Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, we’re already fully supporting the airport as it continues to grow.”

Flughafen Berlin is the fourth German airport to join ParkCloud’s global network, alongside Nuremberg, Weeze and Memmingen.

About ParkCloud

ParkCloud, simply put, lets drivers book a parking space in advance, in the same way as it’s possible to do with hotel rooms, restaurant tables…and even a coffee these days.

When travelling, parking is usually the last thing on anybody’s mind, but research shows that as much as 20 minutes is wasted when searching for a parking space. ParkCloud aims to solve that problem by letting customers make a parking booking, whether they are getting on a plane, taking a cruise, catching a train, or visiting a city or event.

ParkCloud was founded in 2008 as an online parking reservation service and within the nine years we’ve been operating our success and growth has been rapid; we’ve gone from our three founders to employ over 20 members of staff; from one country to over 40; and from two languages to over 20 – and we don’t plan on slowing down.

Today we are an award-winning, global provider, working with car park operators across 42 countries to include them on our comparison search engine, which aims to give consumers the most user friendly, efficient service possible when they need it most.

This bookable parking network is also made available to travel industry partners to help complete the itineraries of passengers worldwide.
