ParkNews.biz week of Jan 5th- 11th, 2021 – FlashParking, Arrive, Airport Travel, PT Plus  and more …

This past week, the first week of the new year, the biggest news in Parking Industry were a merger of FlashParking and Arrive: Jan 5, 2021 – FlashParking and Arrive to Merge — Creating the First End-to-End Digital Mobility Platform Serving Consumers, Parking Operations, and Mobility Service Partners

Together, they are determined “to create a company designed to bring digital and touchless technologies to parking garages. The pandemic has accelerated the need for such services, the CEOs of both companies said in an interview, and the combined business aims to help garages with not just digital parking solutions, but a range of micro-mobility tools designed to reimagine what a parking garage can be.”

In the past year, despite the pandemic, FlashParking grew by 50%:  Currently, FlashParking has around 230 employees, while it had 150 at the start of 2020. And although Arrive went through some furloughs, currently they have more than 100 employees, thus the combine company has 330 persons.

The merger promises not to result in any layoffs.

Dan Sharplin, the CEO of FlashParking said: “Flash was born out of a need to digitize and modernize parking infrastructure,” and the merger was a “hand-in-glove fit.”

Arrive’s CEO Yona Shtern said: “This is a growth story not only for the company, but for the people within it.”

And speaking of growth, the best news story of this past week goes to Orlando International Airport and their volume of travel: Jan 11, 2021 – Orlando International Airport Had Most Departures in US During Holidays

“Economic forecasters say that where there’s an increase in travelers, there’s an increase in tourism dollars, and this could be a sign that things are looking up in 2021.

A couple of businesses along Orlando’s International Drive, in the tourist district, said this past holiday season brought much more business than they were expecting during the pandemic.

The travel numbers through OIA were much higher than airport officials anticipated, though they were down 42% from 2019’s holiday season, pre-pandemic.

That said, OIA shot past its departure passenger number predictions for this year by more than 100,000.

One economic expert said it’s a good sign, and not just for the airport.

“It presents, or indicates, a much more rapid recovery than I think was expected when we were at the worst of this pandemic, and there was virtually no passenger traffic at the airport,” said Sean Snaith, Director of UCF’s Institute for Economic Forecasting.”

This Sunday, I flew back from Fort Myers, FL via Charlotte, NC to LAX.  Through the pandemic, I have flown back and forth to Florida several times be it via Dallas or Charlotte.  Yesterday, the airports in Fort Myers, FL and in Charlotte, were packed.  Way busier than anytime I have seen it in the past 7 months.  The restaurants in Charlotte, bars and shops were especially full.  Everyone was wearing masks yet, there seemed eagerness and hope for normal travel to resume and for life to blossom again.

And to go on, we must.  With common sense but courage to keep on living and thriving.  Thus, this past week, we have created Parking Today Plus: Jan 6, 2021 – Parking Today Announces “PT Plus”

“Parking Today announces that membership is now open in PT Plus. This membership enables companies to provide an unlimited number of news releases to be posted on Parknews.biz plus have them digitally printed in our online issue of Parking Today each month.”

Therefore, we are looking forward to your news releases and  to this new digital section – news hub as what is happening within your company.

Have a wonderful and blessed new week.

Sincerely,

City Tech Collaborative, Millennium Garages, SP+, and Arrive Launch New Innovation Lab

May 06, 2020

City Tech Collaborative, Millennium Garages, SP+, and Arrive Launch New Innovation Lab

The Millennium Gateway Innovation Lab Will Envision and Implement New Urban Parking Solutions

Together with founding members Millennium Garages, SP+, and Arrive, City Tech Collaborative is launching the new Millennium Gateway Innovation Lab, a cross-sector consortium to envision and implement technology-enabled solutions that will position parking facilities to address critical urban challenges.

Cities are adapting to rapidly changing mobility needs and trends, including rideshare, micromobility, and delivery services. Communities are setting goals to increase connectivity between transit modes, make better use of existing resources, address climate goals, and improve quality of life and equity for residents. As a crucial component of the transportation system, the parking industry must evolve, as well. Reconsidering the role of critical urban assets – including parking facilities – creates opportunities to improve economic, environmental, and social outcomes.

Physical spaces – like parking garages – hold infinite potential to be an asset to cities beyond their current use,” said Rick West, CEO of Millennium Garages. “Parking garages may become transportation hubs and critical links within multimodal journeys, and we are actively seeking ways to demonstrate new technology-enabled solutions to keep the parking industry relevant and efficient and to be strong partners to cities as they seek to enhance services to their residents.”

City Tech and partners are reimagining parking real estate as a gateway to connect to other modes and services; the partnership seeks to more fully integrate parking into the broader mobility landscape – including public transit, ride- and vehicle-sharing, electrification, and automation – as well as explore innovative facility management, freight and logistics hub opportunities, and other creative space uses for cities.

Spanning 3.8 million square feet and providing access to Chicago’s top tourist destinations and the business district, Millennium Garages is the largest downtown public parking system in the United States and is believed to be the largest underground parking system in the world. The complex includes an underground network of four garages connecting Millennium Park, Maggie Daley Park, and Grant Park, as well as provides access to the highway network, underground pedway, and Millennium Station. Millennium Garages serves as the anchor facility for the Lab, and the partnership is engaging parking facility owners and operators across North America to explore other locations to demonstrate use cases.

Joining Millennium Garages as Founding Members of the Millennium Gateway, SP+ and Arrive bring extensive operational experience, technical expertise, geographic reach, and scaling opportunities. SP+ provides technology- driven mobility solutions to clients across North America, including parking and facility management, ground transportation, remote baggage check-in, and event logistics. Arrive’s skill in integrating vehicle navigation, access, and payment systems, voice platforms, websites, mobile apps, and other cutting-edge technology – paired with City Tech’s ability to create collaborative, scalable, market-ready solutions – will further strengthen the Lab’s impact.

Later this spring, City Tech will be releasing the Lab’s roadmap to integrate parking solutions across the mobility system [see the Advanced Mobility Initiative roadmap here]. The three-year plan will outline specific areas for solution development, such as increasing public transit access, optimizing smart infrastructure management, and establishing creative space utilization for businesses.

The Lab’s first planned project will use sensors to gather real-time information at electric vehicle charging stations; with this capability, garage managers will be able to communicate EV spot availability to drivers ahead of time, as well as track EV spot occupancy to inform pricing and additional capital investments.

In all of our work, we engage a broad set of industry, technology, civic, and community stakeholders to ensure that solutions are developed in a comprehensive, collaborative way to solve real world problems,” said Brenna Berman, CEO of City Tech. “Developing solutions through a robust partner ecosystem helps us deliver scalable, maintainable, and measurable impact on cities.”

Founding Members of the Millennium Gateway Innovation Lab are Millennium Garages, SP+, and Arrive. The National Parking Association – which represents over 100,000 parking professionals – and the International Parking & Mobility Institute – the world’s largest association of professionals in parking, transportation, and mobility – will lend their expertise in parking industry research, education, and professional development as Strategic Partners to the Lab.

The Millennium Gateway Innovation Lab is one of many projects within City Tech’s Advanced Mobility Initiative, an effort led by Founding Members Bosch, HERE Technologies, and Microsoft and support from over 20 industry partners to create a more seamless and frictionless transportation system with increased accessibility and reach for urban residents. Other projects within the Advanced Mobility Initiative include mitigating freight delivery congestion, managing curbside space through demand-driven value models, and a partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Innovation Center. ARRIVE ADDS INNOVATIVE SMART PARKING RECOMMENDATION ENGINE TO ITS INDUSTRY-LEADING ENTERPRISE PARKING PLATFORM, COMBINING ON- AND OFF-STREET PARKING IN A SINGLE SOLUTION

ARRIVE ADDS INNOVATIVE SMART PARKING RECOMMENDATION ENGINE TO ITS INDUSTRY-LEADING ENTERPRISE PARKING PLATFORM, COMBINING ON- AND OFF-STREET PARKING IN A SINGLE SOLUTION

Arrive Announces Acquisition of Tel Aviv-based sPARK and Integrates Its Smart Parking Recommendation Engine Into Connected Cars, Fleets, Navigation Platforms, and Voice Systems

CHICAGO, March 5, 2020 — Finding parking is now easier than ever. Arrive announced today that it has added industry-first features to its enterprise parking platform that will radically transform the way we park: a smart parking recommendation engine that suggests the best on-street or off-street place to park and transacts seamlessly using your voice, in-dash system or mobile phone.

Arrive becomes the only parking technology company to integrate a variety of data sources into its platform, including navigation details, traffic, weather, on-street parking prices and availability, dynamically priced off-street parking, and deliver it through a cutting edge recommendation engine for customers.  Through the acquisition of sPARK Parking Technologies and their industry-leading technology, Arrive reinforces its position as the leading provider of transactional parking solutions for connected cars, autonomous vehicles, car share companies, and more, and provides drivers an unparalleled parking experience.

“Imagine having a personal assistant who helps you choose and navigate to the best spot while considering price, availability and parking restrictions from among the myriad options in real time. We are making that a reality today,” said Yona Shtern, CEO of Arrive. “We’re thrilled to be the first to offer customers and partners a single source for all types of parking and a profoundly better experience finding, paying for, and navigating to the best space possible in cities across North America. This is a game-changer — not only for our company but for our partners building smart cities and experiences in vehicles that will shape the future of mobility.”

When a driver selects a destination via an Arrive-powered mobile app or website or asks Alexa or other voice platforms to find a parking space near their desired destination, Arrive’s platform will recommend the single best space available in real-time by comparing on-street metered spaces with unmetered blocks and off-street options in a lot or garage. The recommendation provided will vary depending on the day of the week, time of day, how many people are parked in the area, other events happening and more.

Arrive’s recommendation engine will launch first through the ParkWhiz Alexa skill and on the company’s apps in select cities this summer before expanding nationwide. While Arrive had been building and testing a recommendation engine for some time, it is acquiring sPARK, a Tel Aviv-based technology company, to help scale the engine to multiple cities more quickly. On-street parking pricing and availability will be provided by a network of partner companies and providers.

“We’re delighted to be joining Arrive in its mission to transform mobility through its smart, connected parking services. Our team has been focused on making parking easier to find for a long time and we believe our technology and experience will further accelerate Arrive’s evolution into the backbone of urban mobility,” says Zohar Bali, CEO of sPARK.

sPARK employees will join Arrive’s existing team in Tel Aviv at the company’s Global Mobility Lab. Together, they will focus on building and enhancing technology that facilitates the last mile of mobility, including recently launched connectivity solutions that will enable frictionless garage entry and exit at tens of thousands of lots across North America.

SACPARK UPGRADES VENUE PARKING AND WAYFINDING EXPERIENCE

Partnerships with Arrive, Ticketmaster and Waze Improve Fan Experience

SACRAMENTO, November 7, 2019 – SacPark, the City of Sacramento’s parking reservation system, is providing a better parking experience to people attending games, concerts and shows at venues in the city. Through a partnership with Arrive, Ticketmaster and Waze, customers can find, book and pay for parking in advance of the event, and more easily navigate to their destination.

Event-goers can purchase Arrive-powered parking spaces at lots and garages across the city, including parking for Sacramento Kings games and Broadway Sacramento productions. Parking is sold on the City’s website (sacpark.org), the Sacramento Kings website (nba.com/kings), Broadway Sacramento website (broadwaysacramento.com) and the Golden1 Center website (https://www.golden1center.com). Additionally, people can also purchase parking via Ticketmaster at the same time they purchase tickets to games, shows and events.

“We strive to make game day an incredible experience for our fans, from the time they leave their front door to the time they return,” said Kings Vice President of Ticket Operations Jeff Risley. “By working with Arrive, in partnership with Ticketmaster and Waze, our goal is to make the trip simpler, so fans can get to the stadium faster, avoid traffic, and enjoy watching the Kings win.”

Fans attending concerts and sporting events at the Golden1 Center also have access to an enhanced trip planner called GamePlan, Arrive’s integration with Waze. The feature helps fans get to their seats on time, and alleviates traffic and congestion around venues. Anyone who purchases Golden1 Center event parking through SacPark can add the trip directly to Planned Drives in their Waze app and receive an alert when they should depart, along with turn-by-turn directions directly to their parking garage entrance.

“Tens of thousands of people travel to downtown Sacramento venues at the same time to listen to a concert or cheer on the Kings,” said Matt Eierman, parking services manager for the City of Sacramento. “SacPark is a one stop shop designed to make it easier for people to get to where they need to go on time. Our unique partnership with Arrive, Ticketmaster and Waze helps us to achieve our mission.”

“Parking and congestion are consistently cited as the two biggest pain points for fans attending games or events, so we understand that the fan experience starts well before anyone sets foot in a venue and SacPark does just that. We’re excited to work with the Kings and the City of Sacramento to make the journey as seamless as possible,” said Dan Roarty, President and COO of Arrive.

ARRIVE ACCELERATES DEPLOYMENT OF SEAMLESS

PARKING SOLUTIONS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA

Company Aims to Help Modernize Parking Facilities for Current and Future Connected Drivers

CHICAGO, October 22, 2019 — Arrive is accelerating the deployment of its seamless parking solutions across North America, moving from city-based tests to wide-scale implementation of its frictionless technologies. By the end of 2020, Arrive aims to have installed Bluetooth and other technologies in tens of thousands of garages and lots across the U.S. and Canada. Drivers who purchase parking through the company’s ParkWhiz and BestParking apps, or one of Arrive’s partners like Ticketmaster, Amazon Alexa, or Honda will be able to seamlessly enter and exit garages and lots without making a reservation or pulling a ticket at the gate.

“The way people get from place to place is changing as fast as new technology is developed. It can be difficult for businesses to keep up and a financial burden for parking operators and asset owners to continue investing in expensive technology,” said Yona Shtern, CEO of Arrive. “We have developed a range of low-cost and easy-to-install solutions, and are committed to working with operators and PARCS companies to enhance their existing infrastructure, making it possible for them to enable new technology faster and creating a better, more connected experience for drivers.”

To help the company accelerate its expansion, Arrive has entered into a strategic partnership with Inugo, a New Zealand-based company, to provide Arrive with Bluetooth connectivity kits that the company has integrated into existing PARCS systems.

“We’ve spent many years building a platform that allows parking operators to have a robust, cost-effective solution for enabling digital access to their gates for a range of use cases. By partnering with Arrive, we will be able to expand our footprint in North America and collaborate with them to enable seamless access for millions of drivers across the country,” said Ben Martel, CEO of Inugo.

Inugo is the latest hardware solution provider to join Arrive in its pursuit of seamless parking solutions, joining previously announced hardware partners Flash Parking, Parkonect, TIBA, Skidata and DataPark.

In addition to more hardware partnerships, Arrive is also announcing nationwide operator partnerships with InterPark and Propark Mobility to help advance frictionless parking and other mobility services.

“Arrive’s unique approach to the marketplace, focusing on connecting parking operators to the millions of customers who will use new technologies in connected cars and fleets, helps Propark enhance our business today, and ensures we are adaptable to the changing landscape of mobility,” said John Schmid, CEO of Propark Mobility.

InterPark COO James Mueller said, “Arrive’s flexible and collaborative partnership nicely supports our own investments in improving the customer experience without requiring additional costs.”

Arrive and Inugo will demo the new Bluetooth connectivity kit in the Arrive booth at the 2019 National Parking Association Annual Convention and Expo.

Arrive Introduces New On-demand, Connected Technologies

June 07, 2019

No matter what you think about autonomous vehicles or when you think they’ll be available at scale, it’s safe to admit that connected mobility is here – today. More and more vehicles are coming equipped with connected car services and in-car assistants like Amazon’s Echo Auto will soon turn millions of cars into voice-activated, connected vehicles with the ability to purchase Arrive-powered parking simply by saying, “Alexa, find me parking.” Similar services will be available from Apple, Google and the automakers themselves.

What does it mean for the parking industry? Parking sits at the intersection of three major trends that will shape the future of transportation: mobility as a service, the connected car, and smart cities. Arrive’s mobility partners value parking and understand how important it is – especially seamless, mobile-driven parking operations.

To meet the needs of the evolving ecosystem, our company is laser-focused on developing new on-demand, connected technologies:

  • Building on our original work with TIBA, we have expanded our seamless ingress and egress Bluetooth capabilities through partnerships with FlashParking and Parkonect. Interested in seeing it in action? Visit our booth #618 at IPMI for a demo.
  • We’ve added Skidata and DataPark as new PARCS partners – and have now established strategic relationships with nearly all of the leading PARCS companies.
  • We just rolled out new beacon-based solutions that make on-demand mobile payments easier than ever for customers and connected cars.

In addition to these new technologies, we’re proud to have announced several new venue and mobility partners with dozens more coming in the next few months:

As a company, we continue to be inspired by the possibilities that connected mobility brings to our industry. We are grateful for our parking partners collaboration and willingness to explore this new frontier, and we look forward to seeing you at IPMI.
