DURHAM COUNTY COUNCIL INSTALLS VIDEALERT PLATFORM TO FIGHT BUS LANE MISUSE

PINNER, MIDDLESEX, 12 DECEMBER 2019 – Durham County Council is installing a new automated Videalert enforcement system to crack down on bus lane contraventions in North Road in Durham City.  The council has taken over responsibility for the enforcement of bus lanes from Durham Constabulary and has deployed cameras as part of an ongoing contract with NSL inresponse to complaints about contraventions from local councillors, residents, bus companies, taxi drivers and the Durham Licenced Taxi Association.

According to Kieron Moralee, Parking and Transport Infrastructure Team Leader at Durham County council:  “The cameras have been installed to reduce the incidence of drivers breaching bus lane restrictions and increase the speed and reliability of the local bus network. This measure will also impact on traffic flows, making the streets safer for cyclists and pedestrians alike.”

Videalert has installed the latest ONVIF-compliant HD ANPR cameras that deliver the highest quality images.  Capture rates are further enhanced by combining ANPR and video analytics to identify only the vehicles that are actually committing offences.  The system also allows the use of a whitelist of vehicles that can legitimately use the gates including buses, emergency vehicles and maintenance vehicles.

Captured evidence packs are stored on Videalert’s hosted digital video platform where they can be accessed and reviewed securely over the internet.  Validated evidence packs are sent to the council’s back office system to issue penalty charge notices (PCN).  Videalert’s flexible hosted platform makes it a quick and cost effective process to deploy enforcement as it does not require the installation of any IT at the council’s offices.

“We are committed to maintaining an independent approach to the provision of ‘best of breed’ technology solutions to meet the specific requirements of individual clients,” commented James Fraser, Local Government Account Director at NSL.  “With an outstanding track record of reliability, the Videalert platform was the ideal solution for Durham County Council.”

The cameras were switched on in mid-September and anyone caught misusing the bus lanes were sent warning letters for the first two weeks before £60 penalty charge notices were issued.  The council has stated that all money raised through the charges will be invested back into managing the road network in County Durham.

Tim Daniels, Sales and Marketing Director of Videalert, added:  “This contract demonstrates how Videalert and NSL can jointly deliver a complete end-to-end solution from cradle to grave including capture, back office processing and debt collection. This integrated approach reduces risk and enables councils to increase both productivity and compliance in the shortest timeframes.”

Complete Coach Works Announces First Delivery of Newly Developed HVAC Systems in Montebello Bus Lines’ New Flyer Buses

RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW) is pleased to announce it has begun delivery of buses to Montebello Bus Lines. The contract calls for the installation of CCW’s refined HVAC system into 35 Montebello Transit New Flyer buses.

In 2018, a full redesign of the HVAC system was developed as a lack of available components to repair the AvantAC system had caused an increasing inability to service it. CCW’s HVAC system will not only utilize readily available industry components, but will also incorporate a streamlined control logic system that was developed in-house. By providing alternative parts that are readily available, the major system components will operate for a considerably longer period of time without the need to replace the entire unit.

Kevin O’Brien, General Sales Manager of CCW states, “Complete Coach Works is extremely excited to be given the opportunity to install our HVAC system into Montebello’s fleet. Our HVAC system has already proven to be successful in Las Vegas, NV, a city that experiences extremely hot weather. We have worked on several projects with Montebello and are confident that this project will have a successful outcome. We look forward to completing this retrofit and are grateful for the opportunity and continued partnership.”

CCW’s air conditioning solution will benefit Montebello and its passengers by contributing to a comfortable experience. Kevin comments, “It’s rewarding to know that our pioneering efforts and continued success in advanced technology are making an impact in the transportation industry, and we cannot wait to demonstrate it to other agencies.”

Complete Coach Works Becomes the First to Offer Retrofits for Wheelchair Charging Stations

RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW), a leading innovator in heavy-duty electric transportation, announced today it will offer retrofits to allow ADA passengers to charge their wheelchairs at each tie down location in the bus.

CCW is committed to serving the transportation industry with innovative advanced technologies. From the introduction of the Zero Emission Propulsion System (ZEPS) all-electric transit bus, first produced in 2012, to its newly developed HVAC system which has successfully proven to perform in the harshest environments, CCW recognizes the unique needs of its customers.

This upgrade will be available to all types of buses. It includes an installation of plug outlets at each wheelchair tie down station allowing riders to plug in their cords and charge while riding the bus. The key advantage to the charging station is to provide ADA riders with better accessibility and offering them a bit more power to reach their destination.

“We are relentless in pursuing innovative options for the growth of our customers. This unique retrofit will allow agencies to offer riders who use wheelchairs or scooters an opportunity to charge en route,” said Brad Carson, Director of Sales and Marketing at CCW.

Wheelchair charging stations will give riders the assurance needed to navigate the city freely. In addition, the charging stations will enhance wheelchair reliability and drive range allowing users to go a further distance. This retrofit will pave the road for other agencies to notice the benefits of adding wheelchair charging stations to their buses.

“We are excited to offer our customers another option to increase ridership. ADA bus travelers will now have a sense of security and confidence to be independent in their communities,” states Brad.

“Operating a refurbish bus reflects the district’s commitment to sustainability and to responsibly steward the tax dollars it receives from the community,” said Aurora Jackson, Lane Transit’s General Manager. “We look forward to a CCW refurbished 40-foot Gillig safely and comfortably transporting riders commuting aboard the LTD sponsored Diamond Express to and from Oakridge, as well as the rest of the metro area.”
