Ampcontrol Raises $10M Series A for AI-powered EV Fleet Charging Software

Ampcontrol, a leading AI-powered software solution for fleet operators, today announced $10M in Series A financing to enable its next stage of growth. The round was led by The Westly Group with participation from existing investors AngelPad and Lorimer Ventures.

Fleet operators are facing critical challenges when switching from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles. Problems range from high energy costs, low charger reliability, and late departure of vehicles. Since 2019, more than 20 fleet operators across the US, Europe, Latin America, and Africa use Ampcontrol’s software to ensure on-time departures, maintain low energy costs, and reduce EV charger downtime.

Ampcontrol works with some of the largest fleet operators in the world. Customers include WattEV, First Bus, Revel, and one of the largest global commercial truck manufacturers. Customers like Revel are using Ampcontrol’s AI-powered software to save 45%+ on their monthly energy costs.

“We believe Ampcontrol’s innovative AI platform offers the tools we need to optimize and monitor our EV charge points. The company’s vision aligns closely with our goals, and we are thrilled to be working with them” said Ihor Starepravo, Head of Software of WattEV.

After years of consulting with energy companies, Ampcontrol CEO and Founder, Joachim Lohse, leveraged his knowledge of the grid and EV fleets to build software that would help fleet operators maintain a high charger uptime, plan routes, coordinate with energy tariffs, and monitor their vehicles and chargers with live data. This laser focus on electric fleets allows Ampcontrol to support fleets in a variety of industries and use cases, including transportation & logistics, transit buses, rideshare & taxi, food & beverages, and school buses.

Today, Ampcontrol’s software connects to the EV charging hardware and vehicles to make real-time decisions and provide detailed monitoring tools to fleet operators. Ampcontrol offers 24/7 hardware monitoring, OCPP charger communication, fleet management, dynamic load management, V2G integrations, alerts & notification system, and more. The software has a best-in-class uptime of 99.995%, which makes it the most reliable software system in the market for EV fleet charging. Fleet operators also benefit from Ampcontrol’s vehicle telematics integrations with partners such as Geotab.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of The Westly Group to our team, as one of the early investors in Tesla and other electrification companies, they fully embrace our vision for Ampcontrol,” said Ampcontrol CEO and Founder Joachim Lohse. “Building a company does not come with a playbook, and there is no set formula to follow, but with support from partners like The Westly Group, AngelPad and Lorimer Ventures, we are confident in our ability to become the technology leader for electric fleets.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to support Ampcontrol’s vision to become the leading software platform for electric fleets,” said Emily Fritze, Partner at The Westly Group. “Every commercial vehicle manufacturer is moving electric and will need a new suite of tools to manage the operations and energy of their fleet. We have evaluated almost every early-stage company in this sector, and Ampcontrol has built the strongest, most reliable, and advanced charging product in the market.”

Blink Charging Collaborates with Hubject to Provide Plug&Charge Across the Blink Network in North America and Europe

Miami Beach, FL, Oct. 31, 2022  — Blink Charging Co.(NASDAQ: BLNK, BLNKW) (Blink), a leading owner, operator and provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment and services, and Hubject, an open IT platform provider, today announced a collaborative agreement to provide Blink customers in the United States and Europe with the Plug&Charge functionality and grow the Plug&Charge ecosystem.

The Plug&Charge feature is based on the ISO 15118 protocol, which allows a fully automated charging process, as the authentication begins as soon as the driver connects their vehicle to the Blink charging station. This allows EV drivers to leave their RFID cards and smartphone apps in their pockets providing an even more convenient charging experience for Blink users.

A Plug&Charge enabled vehicle is equipped with a set of certificates that transmit the customer’s contract data directly to the charging station providing greater security over the authentication via RFID card, app or credit card. The subsequent payment is also handled automatically through Blink Charging. By fully automating authentication, Plug&Charge creates a charging process that is very convenient, easy to handle, and entirely hassle-free for the driver.

“This collaboration will be an added benefit for EV drivers who charge with Blink chargers,” said Michael D. Farkas, CEO and Founder of Blink Charging. Mr. Farkas added that “Hubject’s Plug&Charge service will enable Blink users with vehicles capable of using Plug&Charge to charge their EVs without the need of an RFID card or using an app, making the charging experience even more convenient.”

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Blink Charging to offer their drivers a seamless Plug&Charge experience across their expansive North American and European networks,” said Trishan Peruma, CEO of Hubject Inc. “Creating an effortless charging experience for EV drivers lowers the barriers of EV adoption. The more straightforward the process, the more people will be convinced to join in the mobility transition.”

Talk Green with Brian and ParkNews.biz Oct 19th– 25th, 2021

Parking Today goes Green: We are excited about our January 2022 Parking Today Issue.  It is the Green Issue.  And yes, the focus is environment and making parking experience better for the customer through it and with it.  Be it via reserving parking spaces ahead via various apps while attending a sporting event or a play.  Or via getting the ev car and having myriad charging options.  Or lighting systems or wayfinding.  Anything and everything that makes our parking and mobility easier with respect for our planet.

Just this Monday, a sign of electrification going full steam ahead.  Hertz “ barely four months out of bankruptcy, placed an order for 100,000 Teslas in the first step of an ambitious plan to electrify its rental-car fleet.”  Further: “It’s the single-largest purchase ever for electric vehicles, or EVs, and represents about $4.2 billion of revenue for Tesla, according to people familiar with the matter who declined to be identified because the information is private. While car-rental companies typically demand big discounts from automakers, the size of the order implies that Hertz is paying close to list prices.

“How do we democratize access to electric vehicles? That’s a very important part of our strategy,” Mark Fields, who joined Hertz as interim chief executive officer earlier this month, said in an interview. “Tesla is the only manufacturer that can produce EVs at scale.”
