City of Las Vegas Launches
Smart Curbside Management Corridor with Cox

IoT Business Line of Cox Begins Pilot Traffic Management Solutions for a Safer Downtown

LAS VEGAS and ATLANTA, March 4, 2021 – Today, Cox Communications announced it has initiated a pilot partnership with the city of Las Vegas to trial its smart curbside management solution from Cox2M, aimed at reducing downtown traffic congestion.

The goal of the Las Vegas pilot is to reduce traffic congestion in downtown Las Vegas. Covering six parking spots along the sidewalk adjacent to the 100 block of Main Street are two digital kiosks that utilize video analytics and smart parking technology to better manage active curb loading zones for taxis and rideshares, making conditions safer for visitors and pedestrians.

“The city is working on a variety of smart and innovative public-private partnerships, just like this one,” said Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman. “We appreciate Cox for their out-of-the-box thinking and assistance as we work together to ease traffic congestion in our downtown. It’s ideas like this one that will move our city into the future.”

“Our relationship with the communities of Southern Nevada runs deep and developing the pilot program with the city of Las Vegas has been a huge step forward in exploring what we can do with smart community technology,” said Derrick Hill, vice president, Cox Business Las Vegas. “We are absolutely committed to improving the way of life for Southern Nevadans, and we’re proud to be partnering with the city to utilize strategic technology to enhance the overall visitor experience.”

“Installing the curbside management kiosks demonstrates the innovation that Las Vegas is pursuing to create a smarter ecosystem for visitors and residents”, said Barak Weinisman, vice president, Cox2M and smart communities. “We look forward to working with the city to help ease traffic flow and showcase how kiosks can enable visitor engagement.”

Video analytics from devices along the curb will capture vehicle and license plate information and send utilization data to the kiosks to kick off a countdown timer. If a vehicle remains in the loading zone after the countdown ends, the system reports the incident directly to the city, ensuring a constant flow of traffic.

On the backend, the Cox platform provides cloud processing of traffic flow information, an on- screen interface to display vehicle information, and an online portal to report traffic flows and pedestrian counts.

Additionally, Cox Media explores the placement of advertisements on the kiosks and how that can provide local businesses with brand presence in vibrant downtown Las Vegas.

“We are excited to be part of the technology that moves Las Vegas forward as a Smart City,” said Tonya Ruby, vice president, Cox Media Las Vegas. “Cox Media is all about finding solutions for local businesses and these kiosks are another way we can deliver relevant messages to residents and visitors.”

After weeks of successful testing, installation is completed. The six-month pilot began recently in early March, with the potential to resume upon successful operation. For more information on Cox2M, visit www.cox2m.com.

City of Las Vegas Partners with “Waze for Parking” App, SpotAngels to Help Users Find Parking and Avoid Tickets

City of Las Vegas Partners with “Waze for Parking” App, SpotAngels

to Help Users Find Parking and Avoid Tickets

Las Vegas Leads Country in First-of-its Kind Partnership

SpotAngels, the leading community-based free parking app that helps drivers find parking and avoid tickets announces today its launch in Las Vegas as part of a curb management project with the city. The goal of this partnership is to ease the parking headaches for both residents and tourists looking to enjoy the city. Over the past year, the app saved drivers in cities including New York, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia and more over $10M in parking tickets as well as time and money finding parking.

“The number one complaint we get from citizens is their inability to find parking and we’re hoping to change that with this partnership for both our residents and the tourists that keep this city running. SpotAngels information will greatly help our customers make informed decisions and we are excited to see the results on our annual customer survey.” says Brandy Stanley, Parking Services Manager at the City of Las Vegas.

City of Las Vegas partners with SpotAngels to make parking easier

How it Works

SpotAngels, the “Waze of Parking,” works by displaying a map with the location of all street parking spots, parking lots and garages, helping drivers find free and cheap parking, comply with the rules and avoid tickets. For each spot, the app shows all the rules such as street cleaning, loading zones, no parking hours and all other restrictions, prices of meters and rates of   garages. In addition to these features, SpotAngels has integrated mobile payment and advance booking platforms, providing a one-stop-shop for parking and availability for the entire Las Vegas area.

All the parking information on SpotAngels can be easily updated directly on the app. Also, the app shares information with others to make it easy to find parking. It knows when you leave a spot and displays it to the rest of the community. These parking patterns collected from the community are then used to make recommendations on where you’re likely to find an open parking spot.

How SpotAngels is Different

The uniqueness of SpotAngels is not only in the fact that it’s the first to display all the street parking information but also in the fact that it is crowdsourced. It is the first app in the industry to create a voice for the parkers to help make their own parking experience better.

“We are thrilled to bring SpotAngels to Las Vegas and for the very first time show citizens and visitors absolutely all the parking information and payment options around them,” says Hamza Ouazzani Chahdi, co-founder of SpotAngels. “We are very excited to be working with the City of Las Vegas, one of the most forward thinking cities in the nation!”

About SpotAngels:

SpotAngels has previously established its community of drivers in several metros nationwide including San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Washington D.C., Philadelphia. In 2018, the app was featured by Apple and Google as “Waze for Parking” among the best apps. The company is backed by the co-founder of Google Maps, Lars Rasmussen among other Silicon Valley investors. SpotAngels is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and is free to download and use.

SpotAngels Announces a New Partnership with the City of Las Vegas

SpotAngels, the “Waze for Parking” – a free community-based parking app that helps drivers find parking and avoid tickets, today announces a a new partnership with the city of Las Vegas to provide them with data to help improve the parking situation (which is the #1 complaint from citizens) in Las Vegas.

The partnership includes:
A comprehensive online parking map containing unprecedented level of detail of street parking (location of all spots whether metered or not, all prices, all rules that are on signs, information about mobile payment) and off-street parking (locations of parking lots and garages, all prices, information about advance online booking / on-site mobile payment).
This was made available to the City in 2 weeks whereas it used to take them months to collect the data with a lower level of detail.
A medium to communicate this parking information to citizens for free to help them find parking and understand all the rules. The parking map is available on www.spotangels.com/las-vegas-parking and on the free SpotAngels mobile apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Users of the app will be able to crowdsource information to enhance the parking map of their city and keep it up-to-date.
A Map Editor tool enabling the City of Las Vegas to make updates to the parking map that will be live instantly on the SpotAngels website and mobile apps and to validate all updates made by citizens.
