Cleverciti and Trojan Energy Team Up to Help London EV Drivers Find Available On-Street Charging

Cleverciti has partnered with Trojan Energy to provide electric vehicle drivers with real-time EV parking space availability. The initiative integrates Trojan’s electric vehicle charging stations with Cleverciti parking occupancy sensors to monitor on-street parking spaces throughout the London Boroughs of Barnet and Camden, and notify local EV users when a charging space is available near their residence.

Scottish-based Trojan Energy develops, manufactures, deploys, and operates “the next generation of electric vehicle charging points.” Trojan is committed to providing on-street vehicle charging to the millions of drivers throughout the UK who do not have private parking spaces at their residences. Each Trojan Energy charging hub adds up to 15 on-street EV charging spaces. This allows neighborhoods to equip entire blocks with EV charging stations, while not reducing the availability of parking spaces for existing gas-powered vehicles.

Trojan is also dedicated to reducing instances of “ICE-ing” in which electric vehicle drivers are “ICEd” out of potential charging spaces by internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The goal is to “DE-ICE” street parking while creating a more convenient parking experience for local EV drivers.

In London (and throughout the UK) it is becoming more difficult to zone off ever-increasing numbers of charging spaces exclusively for EV users. All on-street parking spaces, even if equipped with Trojan EV charging stations, are available to all drivers. This project integrated the Cleverciti Sensor with Trojan’s network to notify local EV users via mobile app immediately when a parking space becomes available on their street. The system removes the tension between EV drivers and ICE vehicle drivers, offering everyone the same access to on-street parking, yet giving EV drivers the advantage in the search for parking.

Trojan retained Cleverciti to incorporate its innovative sensor technology. The sensors monitor on-street parking spaces and deliver real-time parking availability to registered EV users. With a range of up to 220 degrees, each Cleverciti Sensor can cover up to 100 parking spaces (depending on its mounting height) and can measure the exact GPS position and size of open parking spaces.

Cleverciti worked with Trojan to install the sensors on existing street infrastructure. Parking availability information is updated in real-time, providing drivers with trustworthy insight into available spaces and notifying them as soon as a charging-capable parking space becomes free in their neighborhood.

Mark Constable, Trojan’s Head of Marketing & Public Affairs stated, “The Cleverciti solution has been an extremely powerful tool to allow us to maximize the utilization of Trojan EV spaces throughout the Boroughs of Camden and Barnet. Our ability to provide parking availability data to our EV users significantly improves their parking experience, while creating a more equitable solution for everyone.”

The initiative between Trojan and Cleverciti will continue to have a significant impact on the future integration and success of EVs throughout London and beyond. This approach improves EV charging utilization, allows municipalities to introduce EV charging spaces on a larger scale, and increases consumer confidence to commit to an electric vehicle.

Cleverciti Bringing Good Parking Luck to Major Irish Shopping Centre

Cleverciti is excited to bring our innovative parking technology solutions to the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in Dublin, Ireland! Liffey Valley is one of Ireland’s largest shopping destinations, with more than 80 stores, 20 restaurants, and a state-of-the-art movie theater.

Cleverciti worked with Liffey Valley owner and global real estate investment firm Hines to implement our innovative solutions across the development’s nearly 3,000 parking spaces across four parking lots. This initiative transforms the way parking is utilized within the development, creating a more efficient, sustainable, and pleasant parking operation.

Hines’ goal is to provide the best experiences possible from arrival to departure for its thousands of annual visitors. Parking plays a vital role in every visit to a destination, and can ultimately determine whether or not someone chooses to return. Further, providing real-time parking availability information helps to reduce the amount of time people spend looking for parking, allowing them to be on their way to their destination, while reducing carbon emissions associated with circling and vehicle idling. This initiative complements the centre’s existing Park Easy parking management system, providing convenient touchless parking options for visitors.

For this project, Cleverciti integrated our cutting edge, pole-mounted Cleverciti Sensors. The sensors monitor the parking occupancy throughout the parking areas, complemented by ClevercitiTotem LED signage. Visitors can arrive at the parking lot and be greeted by dynamic signage providing the number and location of available parking spaces in real-time.

Each Cleverciti Sensor can monitor up to 100 parking spaces, and easily be installed on existing infrastructure including lampposts, buildings, or masts. With a range of up to 220 degrees, the sensors can measure the exact GPS position of each available parking space and relay that information to the LED signage.

In addition to the sensors and signage, Cleverciti is providing our Cleverciti Cockpit parking management system and dashboard. This solution not only provides the property owner and operator with real-time parking occupancy information, but it also provides comprehensive parking data valuable to evaluate patterns, optimize the parking operation, implement dynamic pricing to maximize revenues, and identify and correct any issues. The Cockpit also provides stakeholders with analytical insights, full reporting features, heatmaps, and a live view dashboard.

Cleverciti: Welcome to Miami!

Cleverciti is thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Miami Parking Authority (MPA). Cleverciti will work with the MPA to enable them to improve curb management operations, reduce curb abuse, and create a “white glove” parking experience for drivers.

Effectively managing the curb in the trendy Midtown neighborhood of Miami has become increasingly difficult in recent years. As traffic has increased, so has congestion and curb abuse from all vehicle types. In response, the Miami Parking Authority (MPA) piloted various technologies to help resolve these issues yet struggled to find a comprehensive platform that simultaneously tackled curb abuse, delivered driver guidance, and integrated payment methods with real-time occupancy data to reveal compliance levels.

Fortunately, as the MPA was shaping a revised strategy they learned of the Cleverciti solution implemented in Redwood City, California that solved similar challenges.  In partnership, the teams collaborated on a scalable solution designed to reduce congestion and curb management issues, while enhancing the driver experience for those parking in Midtown.

The initial phase of the MPA plan will concentrate on the heart of Midtown (Buena Vista Blvd, NE 1st Ave between 36thSt and 32nd St) and will include:

  1. 12 Circ 360 Ultras installed at intersections guiding drivers to available spaces.
  2. 43 sensors to monitor the complete curb providing a fully integrated view of payment compliance, occupancy status, and loading zone activity all from the Cleverciti Cockpit.
  3. The Cockpit will equip the MPA with new levels of analytical insights, full reporting features, heatmaps, a live view dashboard, and automated Clever Enforcement alerts to MPA staff to mitigate curb abuses.
  4. The MPA and Cleverciti will share data between systems using the Curb Data Specification (CDS), a digital tool created by the Open Mobility Foundation that helps cities and companies pilot and scale dynamic curb zones. The CDS provides a mechanism for expressing static and dynamic regulations, measuring activity at the curb, and developing policies that create more accessible, useful curbs.

As the project rolls-out, the MPA will use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure congestion, curb abuse, and payment compliance. Based on project averages across Cleverciti’s global customer base, the MPA anticipates double-digit improvements in each category. Additionally, with access to Cleverciti’s comprehensive parking management platform, the MPA will look to integrate existing technologies to further streamline operations across its portfolio.

Cooperatively, the leadership of the MPA and Cleverciti have committed to finding and sharing answers to elusive curb management questions with the aim of moving the parking, mobility, and transportation industry forward collectively.

Cleverciti Sensors Bring Smart Parking to the Busiest Shopping Street in Koblenz

Cleverciti Sensors Bring Smart Parking to the Busiest Shopping Street in Koblenz

City of Koblenz and evm Have Kicked off Their Smart City Projects with a Smart Parking Initiative Using Cleverciti Sensors

Less traffic looking for a parking space, fewer harmful emissions, a better quality of life: three funded smart city projects promise great progress in climate protection in the city of Koblenz. Together, Energieversorgung Mittelrhein (evm) and the city intend to use modern digital solutions to achieve better air quality and air pollution control.

In July 2020 the evm announced the kick-off of the project in the upper Löhrstrasse. The busy shopping street plays a central role in the project: “We are going to test smart parking in the upper Löhrstrasse and want to reduce the so-called parking search traffic here,” explains Lord Mayor of Koblenz David Langner.

In the next few weeks, certain parking spaces along the street will be equipped with 44 ground sensors that will provide information on occupancy. “In another part of the street, overhead sensors are used as well, which we install on street lamps,” explains evm Board Chairman Josef Rönz. One sensor is able to detect up to 100 parking spaces. Digital display boards around the lampposts use this information to show drivers how many parking spaces are still available. Data protection is fully guaranteed: the sensors neither record videos nor photos, but only pass on information according to the pattern “occupied” and “not occupied”.

One look at the statistics shows why it is important to reduce parking search traffic in Koblenz: between 18-25% of traffic in the city center is due to the search for parking spaces. This is one of the reasons why Koblenz exceeded the NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) limit value determined by the European Union – and thus has access to federal funds. The Federal Ministry of Transport is funding the Smart Parking project with around 170,000 euros from the “Saubere Luft” (Clean Air) program and the associated “Digitalisierung kommunaler Verkehrssysteme” fund (Digitization of municipal transport systems).

On September 30, 2020, the evm published another press release in which they announced that all sensors, which are Cleverciti Sensors, have been installed for the intelligent parking guidance system in the making. The installation covers the Löhrstraße section from the Rizzastraße intersection to Bahnhofsplatz, as well as the Peter-Altmaier-Ufer parking lot. Based on the information gathered from the sensors, drivers will soon be able to see on the internet and on digital display boards how many parking spaces are still free.

By the end of the 2020 project year, traffic counters, air quality meters and a parking guidance system that digitally displays free parking spaces are to be installed. The benefits and effects of the projects will be measured over a period of three years. The projects are being implemented with the help of federal funding and the Thüga, the largest cooperative network of municipal energy and water service providers in Germany.

CLEVERCITI SYSTEMS FLIPS THE SWITCH ON THE WORLD’S MOST COMPREHENSIVE INTELLIGENT PARKING GUIDANCE SYSTEM IN COLOGNE

Partnership with Energy Supplier RheinEnergie AG Brings Stress-Free Parking, Cleaner Air and Lighter Traffic to City of Cologne

MUNICH, COLOGNE (June 2, 2020) – Cleverciti Systems, the leading smart parking provider, went live today with one of the world’s most innovative and modern parking guidance systems for residents and visitors in the Cologne district of Nippes, one of the busiest districts on the Rhine. Now, motorists can read the exact number and direction of the remaining free parking spaces along the streets on local LED displays at road intersections, avoiding unnecessary searching and idling, and improving the overall quality of life. The ‘blind’ search for parking spaces, which has contributed significantly to the traffic volume and emissions pollution, is now a thing of the past.

The installation was made possible through a partnership with RheinEnergie AG, the fifth largest energy supplier in Germany, and supports the “SmartCity Cologne Program”, a platform that brings together private individuals, companies, and associations to promote climate protection and renewable energy initiatives. The Cleverciti smart parking system installation significantly reduces traffic and emissions, and is supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure as part of the program “Digitalization of Municipal Transport Systems”.

“We are proud that with our modern systems and services we have been able to implement one of the world’s most innovative and comprehensive parking guidance systems in the inner city area,” says Thomas Hohenacker, CEO and founder of Cleverciti Systems. “From now on, all motorists in Cologne-Nippes will have exact information on the availability of parking spaces and will be able to navigate to the best parking space in a targeted manner and without delay. We want to make a decisive contribution to making parking stress-free through this service, improving the shopping experience in the city and significantly reducing emissions.”

“The Cleverciti solution was optimally integrated into the existing infrastructure in Cologne-Nippes,” says Dr. Andreas Cerbe, Network Director of RheinEnergie. “We operate thousands of light poles in Cologne, which are now equipped with the smart sensors and LED displays with little effort to reduce traffic and emissions.”

A total of 89 ClevercitiSensors, which monitor around 800 parking spaces along the streets in the district, and 27 ClevercitiCirc LED displays are installed on existing lamp posts and seamlessly fit into the local environment. The system takes into account all data protection regulations in public areas. The sensors are designed using artificial intelligence (AI) and edge computing to provide precise data on parking space availability. These available spaces are displayed in real time on the omnidirectional LED displays and in a mobile app, and direct drivers to the nearest available parking space.

According to a survey by the National Platform Future of Mobility, intelligent parking solutions could reduce pollutant emissions by 900,000 tons per year in Germany alone.

CLEVERCITI DEPLOYS WORLD’S MOST COMPREHENSIVE ON-STREET PARKING GUIDANCE SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF COLOGNE

February 18, 2020

CLEVERCITI DEPLOYS WORLD’S MOST COMPREHENSIVE ON-STREET PARKING GUIDANCE SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF COLOGNE

Munich, Germany, February 18, 2020 — Cleverciti Systems, the leader in smart parking guidance and management solutions, today announced that it has been selected to enable RheinEnergie´s smart parking ambitions. The initiative, managed by energy provider RheinEnergie AG for the fourth largest city in Germany, is part of the SmartCity Cologne initiative that is designed to reduce emissions and increase innovation, digitalization, and mobility.

Cleverciti’s solution will provide turn-by-turn guidance to enable drivers to make intelligent decisions based on reliable live data indicating fully occupied on-street parking spaces in the inner city, as well as remaining available spaces. Cologne Nippes, one of the busiest and most densely populated urban districts of Cologne, has been selected for the installation of ClevercitiSensors and ClevercitiCirc360 guidance systems on Rheinenergie’s lampposts, covering 770 popular on-street parking spaces. The free or occupied status of every on-street parking space is monitored in real time. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered ClevercitiSensors provide precise parking availability data, which is displayed locally on ClevercitiCirc360 LED displays delivering live guidance to drivers. This guidance system eliminates unnecessary circling in search of a space and the associated wasted time and emissions. The ClevercitiCockpit enables leaders to manage their valuable parking assets based on precise supply and demand data.

“This sophisticated smart parking deployment is part of an effort to increase sustainable development to achieve greener environments in our smart city,” said Dr. Andreas Cerbe, RheinEnergie AG. “As an organization focused on minimizing environmental impact, we are committed to achieving reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, eliminating needless traffic, and increasing energy efficiency. To achieve these goals, we have worked closely with Cleverciti to design a smart parking solution that is proven to reduce emissions and ease traffic throughout the area. As a utility that owns and operates thousands of lampposts, we are ideally positioned to deploy additional services to benefit city residents through our existing infrastructure – transforming our lampposts into the smart city hubs of the future.”

The search for parking is a major problem for the environment, as well as a significant source of driver frustration and traffic congestion. According to Boston Consulting Group, 8 percent of Europe’s CO2 emissions come from urban traffic. Approximately 30 percent of that traffic is the result of parking search, which can be greatly reduced through adoption of Cleverciti’s smart parking solution. In Germany alone, deployment of smart parking solutions could reduce CO2 emissions by 900,000 tons annually according to Germany’s National Platform for the Future of Mobility.

“As part of SmartCity Cologne, this installation represents the most comprehensive on-street parking guidance and management system in the world and we are proud to be selected as the smart parking infrastructure that powers more efficient parking in the area,” said Thomas Hohenacker, CEO, Cleverciti. “The Cleverciti solution will be used to reduce parking search, overall distance traveled, and emissions while increasing quality of life for area residents.”“A key part of Cologne’s selection of Cleverciti was the patented ClevercitiCirc360 parking guidance technology, which guides drivers to the nearest parking spot at every critical decision point,” said Dr. Günther Picker, Cleverciti’s Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development. “Cleverciti offers the complete solution through its unique, AI-powered overhead parking sensors and dynamic guidance systems mounted on existing lampposts.”To support Cologne’s goals of reducing emissions from parking search traffic, the project has been funded in part by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure within the program of “Digitization of municipal transport systems”.
