Delta Scientific Introduces New ‘Open Frame’

Vehicle Barrier

DSC550 Meets New ASTM F2656-20 Standard
at M50/P1 with -0.36 Penetration

PALMDALE, CALIF. – – Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced the new shallow foundation M50/P1 DSC550 Open Frame vehicle barrier. The DSC550 was tested to the new ASTM F2656-20 standard which measures the penetration level from the leading edge of the barrier versus the back-side of the barrier like the previous standard. This can provide a difference of up to five additional feet (1.52 m.) and makes the negative penetration level even more impressive.

The DSC550 Open Frame barrier features a shallow foundation of only 24 inches (61 cm). The open frame design additionally provides a unique counter-balance design with no springs that need extra maintenance. The DSC550 alleviates the concerns of interference with buried pipes, power lines and fiber optic communication lines in urban applications. The shallow foundation also reduces installation complexity, time, materials and corresponding costs. The DSC550 is perfect for high water table locations and areas with corrosive soils.

“Delta is excited to offer multiple hit capabilities in an open frame barrier design,” stresses Keith Bobrosky, Delta Scientific senior vice president. “The barrier was fully operational after the force of the M50 impact. The fact that no-assist devices are used to operate this electro-mechanical barrier is something totally new to the industry. In addition, the fact that little rebar is needed in the very small foundation is a win for integrators trying to earn a solid margin while installing the DSC550 and a win for the end user with little disruption during installation.”

The new DSC550 provides an emergency fast operation of 1.5 seconds for electro-mechanical and 0.75 seconds for hydraulic operations. This allows a guard to quickly react to a perceived threat with the peace of mind knowing the barrier will deploy in a rapid manner under the most demanding scenarios. The DSC550 also provides intuitive touchscreen controls with data-logging and custom programming.

Delta Scientific Hits Job # 10,000

Over 40,000 Vehicle Barrier Systems Manufactured Since 1974

PALMDALE, CALIF. — Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced that they have reached a milestone in achieving job number 10,000. That translates to over 9,800 wedge barricades, 1,100 gates, 5,300 beam barriers, 23,000 bollards and thousands of traffic spikes and gate arms. The first order was entered into the system in 1974 for what is now the Sabre Tooth Traffic Control with Tire Spikes that enforces “One Way” traffic flow for parking facilities or other single direction vehicle lanes.

Delta has been fortunate to be on the receiving end of several large contracts throughout their history. In August of 1998, Delta Scientific announced an $8 million order to produce barrier systems for United States embassies around the world. In June of 2004, it received a $25 million order from the U.S. Air Force and, in August of 2010, garnered a $19 million order to supply counter-terrorist vehicle barricades for the Forward Operating bases in Afghanistan.

“From our first days, it has always been the goal of Delta Scientific to help supply our clients with the best possible product solutions that meet their vehicle access control application needs,” affirms David Dickinson, president of Delta Scientific. “For instance, if one of our products doesn’t match the exacting security needs of the client, we will create a new product that does and produce it on budget and on time. We will then add it to our inventory of available products for all.”

As a result, Delta Scientific Corporation has become the world’s leading manufacturer of vehicle access control equipment with over 260,000 square feet of production facilities. Recognized as the industry innovator, with a bounty of patents, more than 40,000 Delta systems protect people and property in over 130 countries around the globe. Delta Scientific has now proudly conducted 65 live full-scale crash tests.

“Delta Scientific is the de-facto solution for perimeter security applications. We are the trusted brand in the industry,” states Greg Hamm, vice president of sales and marketing. With spare parts stocked and ready to ship daily, you can be assured that your Delta systems will always be operational. Delta’s technicians are available for installation and maintenance services as well as email and phone consultation. Product reliability, customer service and innovation are the standards that set Delta apart from the competition.”

Delta Scientific: Delta TB150 Crash Rated Portable Bollard Stops 15,000 Pound (6,804 kg) Vehicle Going 50 mph (80.4 kph)

August 27, 2019

Delta TB150 Crash Rated Portable Bollard Stops

15,000 Pound (6,804 kg) Vehicle

Going 50 mph (80.4 kph)

Provides ASTM M50, P3 Rating

PALMDALE, CALIF. – August 27, 2019 – Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced that its new patented crash rated TB150 portable bollard system lets law enforcement and other security providers promptly block access to temporary venues where vehicles can be used as weapons against large numbers of pedestrians. Individual portable bollards provide vehicle barricades in applications such as heavily travelled walkways and roadways or any area that a vehicle can get through. They can also be used as substitutes until permanent bollard systems get installed.

Ten TB150 portable bollards can be linked together with a cable system and placed on a road’s surface to create immediate protection for a span of 40 feet (12.2 m). No other installation procedures, excavations or sub-surface preparations are required. Certified testing demonstrates that a TB150 portable bollard will stop and disable a 15,000 pound (6,804 kg) vehicle traveling at 50 mph (80.4 kph), resulting in an ASTM M50, P3 rating.

“Being able to stop a massive, high speed attack vehicle is imperative to protecting crowds enjoying venues such as malls, theme parks and public fairs,” emphasizes David Dickinson, president of Delta Scientific. “The TB150 marks a new standard in crowd protection containing and stopping 1.2 million foot pounds of attacking truck. The portable bollard array requires no foundation or site preparation and can be used for permanent or temporary vehicle control. The bollards can be set up on any stable surface such as concrete, asphalt, compacted soil or vegetation.”

According to Dickinson, the TB150 temporary bollards can be used to close off streets, entrances or wide expanses such as access to pedestrian areas or even airport runways. They can be installed in conjunction with Delta’s popular MP5000portable barricade to fill in any gaps to protect people and critical infrastructures at public events such as parades, festivals, sporting weekends and any place that vehicles could attack transitory events. The combination of the portable barriers with the new portable bollards provides fast controlled vehicle access without the time and labor of installation.

“From a purchasing standpoint, it can be easier to buy portable bollards and barricades than permanent solutions,” adds Dickinson. “The latter are oftentimes placed into an organization’s real assets budget because they are permanently installed into the ground, becoming part of the property. Such budgets can often create complex purchasing scenarios for law enforcement or public safety departments. However, purchasing portable bollards and barricades is no different than buying protective vests for personnel or new sets of wrenches for the maintenance department.”

Delta’s Portable Barrier and Bollard Systems

Protect Sydney’s Annual City2Surf Run

Rented Vehicle Access Control Solutions Help Manage Key Roadway

to Protect 85,000 Participants

PALMDALE, CALIF. – 20 August, 2019 – Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced that Delta’s innovative DSC1000 portable barrier and TB100 portable bollard systems were rented from Australian-based Knight Brothers to help protect the 85,000 entrants in the world’s largest run on 11 August. Both a fun run and a competitive contest, the City2Surf Run covers a 14 kilometer (8.7 mile) course that begins in Sydney’s Central Business District (CBD) and culminates at scenic Bondi Beach.
“This annual event needs a vehicle access and control system that can be deployed temporarily and quickly to secure vehicle check points into the main event area for the mobilization, execution and demobilization phases,” explains Matthew Knight, director of Knight Brothers Pty Ltd, Australian partner of Delta Scientific. “At the same time, they did not want to purchase units that would only be used once a year. For such applications, a lease plan has been created where organizations can simply lease the portable barriers and bollards, use them, pack them up and return them.”
Knight adds, “Pre-packed in a 20 foot container, the DSC1000 barrier and TB100 bollard array package was delivered to site and deployed within an hour to provide effective perimeter protection whilst maintaining the required pedestrian and vehicle thoroughfares into the event grounds.”
The DSC1000 is a self-contained unit that is stored and towed on its own trailer.Light enough to be pulled by a golf cart and set up in only 10 minutes, the DSC1000 portable barrier’s crash test stopped a 2300 kg vehicle going 64 km/p, providing it with an ASTM rating of P40. With no foundation or electrical hook-up needed, two people can set up and take down the DSC1000 special event barrier.
The patent pending crash rated TB100 portable bollard system lets security providers promptly block access to temporary venues. Individual portable bollards provide vehicle safety in applications such as heavily traveled narrow walkways and roadways or any area that a vehicle can get through. Certified testing demonstrates that a TB100 portable bollard system will stop and disable a 6,804 kg vehicle traveling at 48 kph, resulting in an ASTM M30, P3 rating. A single TB100 bollard absorbs 400,000 foot pounds of kinetic energy.

Tusco Perimeter Security Protects Atlanta’s New Mercedes-Benz Stadium with Delta Scientific Vehicle Access Control Equipment

Tusco Perimeter Security Protects Atlanta’s New Mercedes-Benz Stadium with Delta Scientific Vehicle Access Control Equipment

Tusco Wins Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) 2017 “Excellence in Construction Award” for Stadium’s Perimeter Protection System

PALMDALE, CALIF. – January 25, 2018 – Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced that Atlanta’s new $1.5 billion stadium, home to the NFL Atlanta Falcons football team and MLS Atlanta United soccer club and site of the recent NCAA national college football championship, is protecting fans, personnel and athletes from terrorists and errant drivers from using vehicles as weapons. Installed by Tusco (Cottondale, Ala.), using Delta Scientific perimeter protection products, the new access system includes four DSC501 barriers, five DSC720 bollards, 39 DSC2000 barriers and 59 DSC680 fixed bollards.

“We are very experienced with installing Delta equipment,” relates Brent Martina, president, Tusco. “Mercedes-Benz Stadium was very particular about their security needs and protocols and requested a customized sequence of operations for their security equipment. Delta Scientific’s products and experienced engineers made them the obvious choice in meeting both the high quality and technical standards required to integrate with the stadium’s sophisticated security system. It was crucial to have a reliable team in place as we received a very compressed schedule to get everything complete by the first football game and, therefore, had no room for errors.”

DSC501 barriers were used at main entrances where players and VIPs, among others, enter with their cars. The DSC501 is the only K54-certified retractable vehicle barricade in the world. Set in a foundation only 18 inches deep, it will survive and operate after a 5.4-million foot pound impact. That’s equivalent to a 65,000-pound truck hitting it at 50 mph. Stopping the truck or car dead in its tracks, the DSC501 protects against a “second hit” risk from a second vehicle. The stadium preferred installing these barricades in a more industrial look, wanting them to be “seen.”

Five retractable DSC720 bollards were used at the pedestrian entry areas. This is Delta’s highest crash rated bollard, stopping a 15,000 pound vehicle at 50 mph. The bollard will stop and destroy much larger vehicles than those tested at very high velocities. The DSC720 is 35 inches tall and 15 inches wide. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the bollards feature brushed stainless steel sleeves.

At the loading docks, 39 of Delta’s fastest, smallest and shallowest foundation barricades were implemented. Chosen especially for high speed applications and ease of installation, the cost effective DSC2000 barrier is K12 crash certified with no penetration, meaning it will stop a 15,000 pound vehicle traveling 50 mph dead in its tracks. The ten-inch shallow foundation also reduces installation complexity, time, materials and corresponding costs.

Lastly, 50 DSC680 shallow foundation fixed bollards with stainless steel sleeves protect pedestrian areas. They secure any unprotected locations where vehicle bombers and errant drivers have no obstacles. The system also includes Delta Scientific hydraulic power units and features touchscreen controls.

“Delayed by roof issues, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium challenged us with a condensed schedule to provide one of the world’s most secure vehicle access systems,” avows Martina. “I’m proud to say that our team completed the work on time and walked away from the project with another pleased client.”
