Electric Works Fort Wayne

Sparking Growth in Fort Wayne

Electric Works will spark new growth in a welcoming community. A recent poll showed strong community support with high favorability across all demographics and council districts. Once, the site employed 40% of the city’s workforce, but that’s not the only reason the community supports the project; it is estimated to have nearly $400 million in annual economic impact and 1,500 permanent jobs.

The broad cross-section of tenants and uses are anticipated to activate the district and neighborhood with arts, food, specialty retail, and the buzz of innovation and collaboration, all in a setting that will boost downtown development.

More about Fort Wayne and Electric Works

Products from Electric Works have touched your life in many ways—you likely have a few in your kitchen. The first ice-making machine in the US, a predecessor of the household refrigerator, and garbage disposal were both invented at the Electric Works campus under General Electric. But these inventions aren’t the only interesting things about the campus and Fort Wayne’s history. Check out these fun facts:

  • Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is rated in the nation’s top ten!
  • Fort Wayne is often credited as the birthplace of the NBA. In 1949, Fred Zoller, owner of the Fort Wayne Pistons, brokered the merger of the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball League (NBL) from his kitchen table.
  • Fort Wayne’s African/African-American Historical Society Museum (AAAHSM) exhibits Black and African American history in Allen County, going as far back as 1809. It also houses the area’s most extensive public collection of African art.
  • Lakeside Rose Garden, a renowned National Rose Garden, attracts guests from all over the country. This “must see” garden holds more than 150 varieties of roses and totals at least 2,000 rose plants.

In November 2022, Denison Parking began managing the Energy Center Ramp, a 574-space public parking facility in downtown Minneapolis. This location was formerly known as the Clearway Energy Ramp. Its updated name reflects a recent ownership change to Cordia Energy.

“Denison Parking is pleased to provide our signature seamless parking service for Cordia while also continuing our growth in Minnesota. We admire Cordia’s vision and its service as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.”

— Damon Noga, National Vice President of Business Development

The Energy Center Ramp has two entrances (4th Ave. S and 3rd Ave. S) and is Skyway-connected near the Two22 Tower, SPS Tower, the Hennepin County Government Center, and the Minneapolis Convention Center.

About Cordia

Cordia, a sustainable energy provider, purchased Clearway Energy at the end of October 2022. Cordia has been one of the largest developers and operators of clean energy in the United States. Their 5.7 gigawatts of wind, solar, and energy storage assets offset the equivalent of more than 10.5 million metric tons of carbon emissions for their customers.

Cordia has served many large operations in the heart of Minneapolis, including US Bank Stadium and Target Center. For more about their current Minneapolis district energy service area and energy facilities, check their service map at this link.

What is District Energy?

Cordia’s Minneapolis service is one of its longest-running district energy systems and has served downtown Minneapolis since 1972. District energy systems are more sustainable than on-site heating and cooling methods due to their efficient energy consumption.

This method is a practical way to provide energy to a densely populated area by using centrally located facilities to generate thermal energy (heat, hot water, or chilled water) for a group of buildings that make up an “energy district.”

The Denison Difference

Denison Parking also shares a commitment to green energy and innovation. We were the first in Indianapolis (where we are headquartered) to offer electric charging stations. We have continued to support energy-efficient practices in our nationwide operations.

Denison Parking comprises a dedicated team focused on creating an environment where energy and integrity create quality parking solutions. In addition to experience, the company’s long-standing family ownership creates a culture where everyone is treated like family, from employees to customers and clients.

Five Fun Facts about Indy’s Automotive History and The Stutz

  • Until 1905, Indianapolis had more auto plants than any city in Michigan. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was built to provide auto manufacturers a convenient place to test and highlight their innovations.
  • The Stutz was built for speed, and the most popular model, the Stutz Bearcat, was known for putting the “roar” in the “Roaring Twenties.”
  • The Stutz automobiles still have a loyal fanbase! The Stutz Club has regular meetups and a mission to preserve and share best practices for restoring and caring for original Stutz motor vehicles.
  • The Great Depression took a toll on small auto manufacturers. The Stutz Motor Company built its final cars in 1934
  • Keeping the Stutz building in good shape paid off. For decades, The Stutz has continued to attract tenants ranging from advertising agencies, artists, technology startups, and law offices. So many artists have made the building their home base that the Stutz Artists Association has become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting gallery exhibitions and educational programs.

The Denison Difference

Although the Stutz Motor Car Company stopped building cars the same year Denison Parking began operations; we share a connection through Indianapolis’ automotive history. As one of the nation’s most experienced parking operators, we have remained agile and ahead of rapid changes in the parking industry since 1934. Relentless innovation and improvement with uncompromised service to clients and customers are how we have thrived in various markets during turbulent times.

Denison Parking comprises a dedicated team focused on creating an environment where energy and integrity create quality parking solutions. Denison Parking Now Managing Parking at Gillette Children’s of Saint Paul, Minnesota

In June 2022, Denison Parking began the management of a new 600-space self-park garage for Gillette Children’s of Saint Paul, Minnesota.

“Denison Parking provides a seamless parking experience with the level of care patients, their loved ones, and staff need during stressful times and challenges. We are proud to support Gillette Children’s of Saint Paul, the nation’s first public hospital for children with disabilities and a groundbreaking leader in pediatric care for 125 years.”

–Damon Noga, National Vice President of Business Development, Denison Parking

Denison Parking has expanded to 27 Minnesota locations: Minneapolis, Rochester, and now Saint Paul. As part of our growth, we have become involved in the local community. Serving a facility that is critically important to its community, with such a unique history, is a wonderful opportunity for our expansion into Saint Paul.

The History of Gillette Children’s

Focused on improving the lives of children with disabilities, orthopedic surgeon Arthur Gillette, MD, and Carleton College student Jessie Haskins co-founded the hospital in 1897. Over time, its mission was defined as patient-centered care, innovation, and research.

Jessie Haskins: Inspiration and Action

The cause of helping children was rather personal for Jessie Haskins; she was born with a curvature of the spine. However, the story of another child in need inspired her. A man visited her church to appeal for help for the homeless. His tale of a child who was unwanted since he could not walk became the catalyst for her crusade.

A guiding principle of the hospital is to provide education in addition to wellness. Just three years after opening, the hospital established a formal education system. Through this program, patients were able to earn their high school diplomas.

A Legacy of Innovation

Gillette Children’s has met the changing needs of children over the years. As common maladies struck the population, children have received treatment for issues ranging from tuberculosis, polio, and neurological and orthopedic issues.

“Although their problems have changed, the mission of the hospital remained the same: to improve the lives of children and help them find a place in society.”

—From the foreword of “We Hold This Treasure, The Story of Gillette Children’s Hospital” by Steven E. Koop, MD

To meet diverse needs and to give these children a future, the hospital was led not only by compassion but by innovation.

ELEVEN, seen on the left

The Vision: A Grand Design

At 41 stories, ELEVEN is three stories taller than The Carlyle and is now the tallest residential building in Minneapolis. For Minneapolis, this is the first residential condominium designed by the influential New York City-based design firm, Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA), in partnership with Ryan Companies. Robert A. M. Stern and his firm are known for designs that capture the spirit of a project’s surroundings. Decades of research and innovation by the firm have created dwelling spaces as functional as they are stunning. For example, the building includes a special door for dogs and their owners to access the surrounding parks.

Project co-developer Luigi Bernardi, who purchased a unit in ELEVEN, stated that the building is meant to fold into the Minneapolis skyline. ELEVEN’s height which includes 17 penthouses, offers an unobstructed view of the city and Stone Arch Bridge. The art deco styling of Foshay Tower is an inspiration in RAMSA’s design. The aesthetics bring out the best of Minneapolis, making the most of its setting in the Mill District.

The Mill District

In the 1880s, St. Louis was surpassed by Minneapolis as the leading area for flour milling. Fed by boxcars of grain and powered by the mighty Mississippi River, the milling industry grew exponentially. Minneapolis became the “Flour Milling Capital of the World.” The hydropower provided by the 50-foot drop from St. Anthony Falls was, unfortunately, no match for fossil fuels and the Buffalo, New York’s shipping rates and strategic advantage with its location at the Great Lakes.

Recognizing the historical, cultural, and real estate value of the area, the city of Minneapolis encouraged the revitalization of the Mill District. In 1983, Washburn A Mill was designated a National Historic Landmark. Nearby Mill Ruins Park opened in 2001, and Gold Medal Park opened in 2007.

Denison Parking’s Service

Our service is the key to our longevity. Since 1934, Denison Parking has upheld a dedication to customer service and facility cleanliness which will complement the experience at ELEVEN. Denison Parking is one of the nation’s most experienced parking operators. The company comprises a dedicated team focused on creating an environment where energy and integrity create quality parking solutions. In addition to experience, their long-standing family ownership creates a culture where everyone, from employees to customers and clients, is treated like family.

Popular destinations from Gateway’s convenient downtown location are The Armory and US Bank Stadium. Visitors to Hennepin County Government Center and Minneapolis City Hall often park in the Gateway Garage.

Centre Village

Centre Village is one of the first multi-use buildings in Minneapolis and remains one of the city’s few skyway-attached condominiums. In addition to 235 condominium units, the building includes a Hyatt Place Hotel, a US Bank branch, and multiple retail establishments.

The Gateway Garage and Centre Village are nearly equidistant from US Bank Stadium, so many of the same attractions are popular destinations for parkers at both facilities.

Convenient for Conventions

Loring Garage is located near Loring Park and only one block from the Minneapolis Convention Center. Adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Hotel, this garage is also across the street from the Millennium Minneapolis Hotel.

Convention events and hotels are not the only attractions in this area.
