Portland, Ore. (Friday, April 10, 2020) – John “Randy” Schetky, the president and owner of Schetky Bus & Van Sales, one the United States’ largest dealerships, passed away early in the morning of April 3, 2020. He was 69 years old.

Randy Schetky died after his cancer diagnosis became unmanageable, said his sons David and Chase, both vice presidents for the company. They will now take Randy’s years of guidance, advice, and leadership to lead the company going forward.

Randy Schetky graduated from Oregon State University in 1975 and began working full time for his father, John L., at Schetky that same year. In 1980, Randy launched the company’s commercial bus division, and begin selling to transit agencies throughout the Northwest. Randy grew the business from the top dealership in the Pacific Northwest, to one of the top bus and van suppliers nationwide. Randy led Schetky to multiple industry awards and took great pride in after-the-sale support. He grew their service facilities from one shop to four within Oregon and Washington. Randy also opened their Arizona sales and service facility in 2017, which has seen exponential growth and is projected to become Arizona’s top dealership in the coming years.

Schetky also sells School Buses, and represents Collins Bus and Thomas Built Bus. In 1997, Randy purchased Larsen Bus Sales, and became the Thomas Bus dealer in Oregon and Washington. In 2018, Thomas Built Buses and Daimler named Schetky a Platinum Support Dealer. This award recognizes a dealer’s ability to provide customers with the best possible experience, communication, robust parts availability and superb customer service.

In addition to David and Chase (wife Liana), Schetky is survived by wife Linley, granddaughter Maya, and brother Steve (wife Chris).

The family said it is unable to plan Schetky’s funeral or celebration of life at this time, due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. But an announcement will follow as soon as arrangements can be made.

HUBER+SUHNER expands high voltage product portfolio for Electric Vehicles

HUBER+SUHNER has today announced the commercial launch of the RADOX® EV-C connectivity solution toprovide the automotive industry with a superior solution, strengthening its footprint in the growing global e-mobility market.

HUBER+SUHNER developed the innovative cable gland to provide hybrid and electric vehicles – particularly trucks, buses, construction and special vehicles – with a safe and reliable connection that is suitable for the most demandingapplications, including high temperatures, current peaks, extreme mechanical loads and harsh environments.

“Previously, vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers often had to source cables, connectors and high voltage distribution units separately from different suppliers and then assemble them together. HUBER+SUHNER is revolutionising this process by offering the end-to-end interconnected system including high voltage cables, the High Voltage Distribution Unit (HVDU) and the latest innovation, RADOX® EV-C,” said Robert Weirauch, Product Manager at HUBER+SUHNER.

“The RADOX® EV-C is proven to operate under severe conditions and provides a consistent level of performance over the life span of the vehicle,” continued Weirauch. “As with all of our high voltage products, we have created these with our customers’ priorities in mind.”

The solution utilises proven RADOX® technology from HUBER+SUHNER, which uses electron beam crosslinking process for the cables. This achieves notable improvements in the thermal, mechanical and chemical properties of the cable insulation. Merging this cable technology with the new EV-C gland will provide the best-in-class connectivity solution for demanding heavy duty applications.

“The HUBER+SUHNER RADOX® EV-C has been validated both internally and externally according to automotive high voltage standards. It is offered in seven sizes ranging from 16 to 120 mm² in five main variants, providing wide configuration flexibility for our customers and their specific needs,” concluded Weirauch.

See the full range of automotive applications on hubersuhner.com or get more details on individual products in the HUBER+SUHNER online catalogue.

WAVE Supports Antelope Valley Transit Authority to be the First Fully Electric Fleet Powered by Wireless Chargers

WAVE Supports Antelope Valley Transit Authority to be the First Fully Electric Fleet

Powered by Wireless Chargers

Salt Lake City, UT- Wireless Advanced Vehicle Electrification (WAVE), the leading innovator in heavy-duty vehicle wireless charging, announced today that it will provide additional wireless inductive charging systems to Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA), as they transition to a 100% electric vehicle fleet.

The economy’s shift toward sustainability has influenced AVTA’s decision to become pioneers of battery electric bus transportation. By combining groundbreaking electric bus technology with wireless inductive charging technology, AVTA’s innovative bus project will be the first of its kind in the nation. The electric bus fleet project will not only benefit local communities, but the environment as a whole.

“Our goal is to seamlessly integrate the charging into naturally occurring dwell times in our schedule,” stated AVTA CEO Macy Neshati, “and with the industry leading 250kW transfer rate that WAVE provides, we can add as much as 133 miles of range on a typical 8-hour shift, which allows us to conduct business as usual while disposing of old polluting diesel buses.”

In-route charging means buses can have smaller batteries, reduced vehicle weight, a higher passenger capacity, and extended vehicle range. Manually attaching power connectors for plug-in chargers is time-consuming, not to mention the risks associated with above ground charging equipment through distasteful visual clutter of overhead lines and pylons. In addition, overhead chargers include moving parts requiring frequent maintenance that will significantly increase costs.

Michael Masquelier, WAVE’s Chief Executive Officer, says, “It’s the completely “hands-free” automated charging operation that is driving demand, which requires absolutely no action by the operators.  AVTA’s electric buses can now move passengers all day long, without a single concern about having enough range.”

“We are honored to be a part of AVTA’s significant milestone in its goal of attaining an all-electric fleet,” says Michael Masquelier, “AVTA has paved the way for transit agencies adopting electric buses with range concerns simply by eliminating the concerns altogether.”

WAVE technology transfers power through the air from a single embedded charging pad placed in the pavement to a receiving pad mounted on the vehicle’s undercarriage. The pad embedded in the ground is sturdy enough to be run throughout the course of the day without damage, has no moving parts, and avoids risks associated with above ground charging equipment.

WAVE is honored to partner with AVTA toward its goal of green mobility. “We look forward to working on future projects with them,” stated Michael Masquelier. WAVE wishes AVTA much success in its continued efforts to provide exemplary service to the communities it serves.
