eleven-x’s eXactpark Solution Selected by the City of Guelph to Improve Parking Access and Urban Mobility

The solution will provide real-time space status availability and intelligent enforcement to help residents and visitors more easily find parking and reduce traffic

WATERLOO, Ontario, November, 30, 2022 — eleven-x, a global leader providing complete, high-performance, wireless IoT and Smart City solutions, today announced it was selected by the City of Guelph to help the municipality improve the management and oversight of their two-hour free parking program by implementing the company’s innovative eXactpark™ solution. eleven-x’s smart parking solution enables comprehensive parking monitoring via a real-time sensor-based stall occupancy technology and a comprehensive software and parking intelligence platform to enable effective management of the city’s parking assets.

The City of Guelph is a vibrant community of over 143,000 people situated in the heart of southern Ontario with a thriving city center. eXactpark will enable the city to better manage its limited parking resources and reduce traffic congestion by providing  real-time parking stall occupancy data, and software to use this data to manage parking assets and implement advanced intelligent enforcement capabilities.

The comprehensive solution incorporates eleven-x’s award winning, patent pending SPS-X sensor, which provides the stall occupancy data to the eXactpark software suite.  The sensor utilizes multiple technologies including magnetic sensing, radar, Bluetooth, along with advanced edge processing,  to provide industry-leading battery life, reliability and most importantly accuracy. Sensors will be installed in two phases, starting with 250 stalls across the municipality’s unique downtown district, with an additional 1,750 projected to be deployed throughout the city to provide advanced real-time analytics of key parking metrics. The eXactpark software suite not only provides parking intelligence software to the city but  will also enable intelligent parking enforcement capabilities so the city can improve its monitoring capabilities for its two-hour free parking program. The sensors will detect how long vehicles are parked in, a space and will be used to enforce the free two-hour limit and to inform longer-term planning for parking needs.

“Many municipalities have free parking policies. It is typically challenging to efficiently monitor, manage and ensure usage compliance for a resource that is offered free of charge. This makes it difficult to maintain the best experience for drivers, since it leads to excessive traffic, and frustrates residents, visitors and ultimately the small business owners who rely on them” said Dan Mathers, President and CEO of eleven-x. “the capabilities that eXactpark provides, including real-time availability and intelligent enforcement, will help the City of Guelph to streamline parking operations, resulting in cost savings,  while at the same time reducing traffic and improving access to downtown businesses.”

eXactpark’s intelligent enforcement and real-time status and monitoring capabilities are essential to the city as it helps reduce cruise times, improves road safety and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The data and insights provided by the smart parking solution will also provide the City of Guelph actionable insights to help with parking asset planning and dynamic pricing initiatives.

“This technology will help make parking downtown easier and more convenient. Eventually, this data will be available on our website so visitors will know – in real time – how many parking spaces are available before they head downtown. These sensors will also improve road safety and lower greenhouse gas emissions across the city.” said Jamie Zettle, Program Manager, Parking at the City of Guelph. “We decided to partner with eleven-x since we have seen the successful deployment of the company’s eXactpark solution in multiple major cities and institutions across North America.”

eXactPark uses LoRaWAN®, a low-power technology that offers a 10-year battery life and minimal maintenance. For more information on eleven-x’s eXactpark solution please visit exactpark.com.

Uber and EVgo Expand Partnership to Support High-Volume Rideshare Drivers with Fast, Reliable Public Charging

LOS ANGELES—-Nov 9, 2021– EVgo Inc. (NASDAQ: EVGO), a first mover in fleet electrification and owner and operator of the nation’s largest public fast charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) and first powered by 100% renewable electricity, today announced an expansion to its EV charging program for rideshare drivers on Uber’s platform. With nearly one million rideshare vehicles on the road, electrification of rideshare provides a significant opportunity to add high-utilization drivers to EVgo’s network. Featuring new discounts and benefits for all drivers using Uber, this expanded initiative builds upon the existing program’s success to ultimately increase access to, and utilization of, EVgo’s network of over 800 public fast chargers — helping both companies further accelerate the adoption of zero-emission transportation at scale.

Rideshare drivers often charge multiple times per day. A recent EVgo survey of drivers in the EVgo program, indicates that approximately 34% of drivers drive 400 to 800 miles each week and another 47% drive more than 800 miles each week and rely heavily on public fast charging. Conveniently located in high ridership urban areas, EVgo’s fast chargers enable drivers without access to at-home charging to charge in between Uber trips.

“Helping drivers go electric remains one of the most important things we can do as a company,” said Adam Gromis, Head of Sustainability Policy at Uber. “The enhanced incentives from EVgo’s program help drivers save money and take another step towards transforming Uber into a zero emissions platform.”

As part of the expanded EVgo Discount Program with Uber, drivers are granted access to discounted EVgo accounts and pricing based on their Uber Pro status. Drivers using Uber — regardless of status– will continue to be able to access EVgo’s member rates without any monthly fees. Drivers with Uber Pro Gold, Platinum, or Diamond status will unlock even lower EVgo Plus rates, saving up to 30% on charging costs over EVgo’s standard Pay As You Go rates.*

“EVgo’s ongoing partnership with Uber tackles access to reliable, affordable and convenient public charging solutions while simultaneously accelerating the electrification of rideshare vehicles,” said Cathy Zoi, CEO at EVgo. “We are excited to see more rideshare drivers making the switch to electric and look forward to providing fast charging for high volume rideshare drivers and decarbonizing this growing segment of transportation.”

The enhancement of this program further accelerates Uber’s initiative to become a fully zero-emission platform by 2030 in the US. In addition to new charging discounts, EV drivers can also earn more per trip from Uber, including a dollar more per trip incentive for fully electric drivers on any product plus $0.50 more when completing Uber Green trips. Uber Green, is the most widely available low- or no-emission on-demand ride product in the world, now available in 100 urban areas across 2 continents. By selecting Uber Green, riders can support current drivers who use sustainable modes of transportation as well as Uber’s Green Future Program, which utilizes Uber Green fees and proceeds to help hundreds of thousands of rideshare drivers transition to electric vehicles by 2025. Drivers who drive a Tesla will also have access to nearly 600 integrated Tesla connectors at EVgo stations across the U.S., enabling them to charge their vehicles without the need for an adaptor.

Murphy Highlights Norwalk’s JuiceBar as “Innovator of the Month”

HARTFORD–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that JuiceBar, based in Norwalk, has been named August’s “Innovator of the Month.” JuiceBar manufactures electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that are made and assembled in the United States with the mission of addressing climate change while building a national EV charging infrastructure. Murphy toured JuiceBar’s manufacturing facility in Oxford earlier this month.

To meet the growing demand for EV charging stations, JuiceBar has tripled its Connecticut workforce over the past year and plans to create at least 100 more engineering and advanced manufacturing jobs in the state by the end of 2022. The U.S. Senate passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill also includes $53 million for over five years to support the expansion of an EV charging network in Connecticut.

“JuiceBar is the only American made and assembled EV charging station manufacturer, and I’m proud to recognize their leadership and the game-changing technology they’re building in Connecticut. Their innovation is a perfect example of how we tackle the climate crisis while creating good-paying green jobs. I look forward to seeing their continued growth in the state and impact on strengthening our national EV infrastructure,” said Murphy.

“JuiceBar is honored to be named Innovator of the Month by Senator Murphy,” said Paul Vosper, JuiceBar CEO. “We had the pleasure of showing Senator Murphy firsthand how JuiceBar is paving the way for Connecticut’s rapid expansion of electric vehicles. The number of charging stations around the country is expected to grow exponentially. JuiceBar is committed to continuing to create more jobs in advanced manufacturing and engineering and leading in innovative charging technology in the great state of Connecticut.”

JuiceBar recently announced its charging stations meet Made in America criteria in the Buy America provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Murphy’s BuyAmerican.Gov was included in the Senate passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, and he also introduced the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act earlier this year.

Murphy believes entrepreneurship and innovation are the building blocks for a strong economy. In the U.S. Senate, he has introduced two bipartisan pieces of legislation to incentivize angel investors to put more money into startup companies—the Angel Tax Credit Act and the Helping Angels Lead Our Startups (HALOS) ActStartup companies create an average of 2 million jobs each year.

EVBox’s next generation of commercial EV charging arrives in North America

Leading global provider of smart charging solutions for electric vehicles introduces EVBox Iqon to improve EV charging infrastructure for public and semi-public parking spaces.

Libertyville, Ill. – Electric vehicle (EV) charging hardware and software company EVBox announced today that its award-winning Level 2 commercial charging station, EVBox Iqon, has received UL-certification and is available for installation across North America. Designed specifically for the scalability needs of the North American market, Iqon alleviates many of the common problems faced at EV charging locations at shopping centers, hotels, parking facilities, or workplaces and improves the EV charging experience for drivers and operators alike.

With its North American headquarters in Libertyville, Illinois, EVBox is bringing its experience and leadership in the European EV market to the U.S. and Canada, specializing in high value, flexible and reliable charging equipment at competitive price points. Backed by ENGIE, EVBox has already installed more than 150,000 charging ports across more than 70 countries and is committed to a future of EV charging. In Europe, it is the sole supplier of public charging infrastructure in cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Monaco.

“By creating Iqon for the North American market, we are expanding our AC charging options and directly responding to the rapidly growing EV charging needs in public spaces across the U.S. and Canada,” said Mark Henderson, vice president of Sales and Marketing, EVBox North America. “We are here to help meet the growing demand for reliable EV charging at work, retail, and hospitality locations with a flexible and adaptable option. With more than 20 million electric vehicles expected to be on U.S. roads by 2030, we want to ensure drivers can find charging as easily as they can find a parking space.”

Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) interoperability is a central pillar across all EVBox chargers, including the new Iqon, giving users the freedom to choose the right hardware and software combination for their needs and the flexibility to change their EV charging set up at any time without having to replace their hardware. The ability for customers to choose between vendors promotes competition in the market, which stimulates innovation and fair pricing. EVBox North America is a founding member and first certified hardware manufacturer of the Open Charge Alliance.

Key benefits of Iqon

Designed to balance form and functionality, Iqon provides an accessible, intelligent, and reliable EV charging experience. It has also been recognized with a 2019 Red Dot Award, 2019 iF Design Award 2019, and as a 2019 CES Innovation Honoree.

  • User-centric, attractive design

    • Durable, sleek design – Stainless-steel housing enhances nearby buildings and surroundings and ensures Iqon will last over the years.

    • LED light guides – EV drivers can easily identify charging locations so they can quickly find a spot to park and charge, and once charging, colored light rings display the status of each charging session.

  • Accessibility

    • Smart Cable Management – Iqon’s auto-locking cable management system uses counterweights to make cables lighter and easier to pull, while also ensuring they never drag on the ground.

    • Wheelchair Accessibility – Iqon is ADA-compliant, keeping all of its access points (charging cables, touch screen) easy to reach from any height and intuitive to use.

  • Flexibility and adaptability

    • Easy set up – Out-of-the-box installation and Bluetooth commissioning via the EVBox Connect app ensures Iqon is always easy to set up.

    • WiFi and 4G/LTE capabilities – Iqon is always connected to the Cloud, allowing for remote station monitoring, adjustment of charging rates, control over user groups and access, and wireless software and firmware updates.

    • Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) compliant – Iqon is built for flexibility through interoperability. Iqon is also integrated with many top North American charging management software providers and can be configured with any other similarly OCPP-compliant EV charging network.

Energy savings and tracking

An important feature of Iqon is that it can be configured in Hub-Satellite clusters of up to 20 ports (10 stations) that act as a single entity, allowing the stations to communicate and ensure the most efficient use of available energy. With a dedicated kWh meter inside every Iqon, the charger can track energy usage and schedule reductions in output with precision.

UL certification

EVBox Iqon meets or exceeds the UL testing facility’s rigorous safety and reliability requirements. The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) third-party certification is considered to be the North American standard for electronics and appliance testing. By putting products through a series of standardized performance tests, UL ensures that everything they certify is safe and reliable.

Utility rebates

The Iqon qualifies for numerous rebates and programs across the United States that can save thousands of dollars in hardware and installation costs — in some cases paying for the entire project.

For more information about Iqon and to learn about available rebate opportunities, visit www.evbox.com.

Revealed: Drivers interest in electric cars strong despite coronavirus uncertainty

May 04, 2020

Revealed: Drivers interest in electric cars strong despite coronavirus uncertainty

A study earlier this year concluded that electric cars are much better for the climate than petrol cars in 95% of the world. Whilst other research last week found that on a yearly basis, electric cars (9,435 miles) are driven 26% more miles when compared to petrol cars (7,490 miles).

These astonishing statistics alongside the fact that people have more spare time during lockdown to thoroughly look into electric cars, inspired private number plates provider Click4Reg to discover which pure electric cars people are most curious about based on online search data using analytics tool Ahrefs.

The key findings from the research include:

  • Tesla Model 3 is the electric car people are most curious about, with an astonishing 1.6 million online searches a month – equivalent of 53,333 searches everyday
  • Nissan Leaf (552,000) and Tesla Model X (506,000) each receive over 500,000 monthly searches online
  • The Porsche Taycan (325,000) and BMW i3 (324,000) are each gaining more than 300,000 online searches per month
  • Smart EQ Forfour (2,800), Chevrolet Spark EV (3,600), Volkswagen e-Up (5,100) are among the electric vehicles that people are least curious about

Additionally, from a survey of 1,844 drivers (interested in but not owners of electric cars) found that:

  • 39% stated they wanted to get a pure electric car this year (2020) but are not going to anymore because of uncertainty/concern about the coronavirus pandemic
  • Interestingly, 76% believe the lockdown has given them more time than ever before to thoroughly research and understand different aspects of electric cars
  • The primary medium those surveyed have used for researching electric cars over lockdown: online videos (31%), online news/magazine articles (25%), official car brands/models website (19%), blogs (13%), physical newspapers/magazines (10%) and podcasts (2%)
  • Despite the coronavirus crisis causing widespread chaos across several sectors, only 22% believe the disease will cause significant long-term damage to the electric car market
