Metro Supply Chain releases new white paper: “Driving fleet electrification forward: a guide to zero emission last mile delivery” to help businesses lessen their carbon footprint

TORONTO, Jan. 24, 2022  — Today, Metro Supply Chain released a white paper, “Driving fleet electrification forward: A guide to zero emission last-mile delivery,” which outlines both the business and environmental benefits to companies from adopting electric vehicles (EVs). The white paper details Metro Supply Chain’s ongoing journey to transitioning its last-mile delivery fleet to zero emission, while providing businesses with a roadmap they can use to build their own electrification strategies.

“Metro Supply Chain is committed to lessening the impact of our supply chain’s emissions and support our customers in reducing their own carbon footprint through electric delivery, and we’re investing in the trucks and infrastructure to get us there,” explains John Fahidy, Vice-President of Transportation Solutions at Metro Supply Chain and one of three authors of the white paper. “Our hope is this white paper will offer readers a better understanding of the ways in which fleet electrification can not only benefit their businesses, but also their customers, employees and investors, our country and, most importantly, our climate.”

While the climate crisis adds an urgency to EV transition, fleet electrification is still a process. The white paper outlines Metro Supply Chain’s EV adoption decision tree, which includes everything from building a business case leadership can buy into and where to launch an EV fleet in Canada, to choosing the right trucks and chargers for its business needs.

Companies can also learn:

  • Why the transport industry faces decarbonization challenges
  • Important market trends driving electric vehicle (EV) adoption
  • The need to be an early adopter in EV transportation
  • Relevant policies and areas of government support
  • Best practices to follow when transitioning to an electric fleet

As companies look to transition to EV fleets, one notable gap in Canada is around the infrastructure needed to charge heavy-duty commercial EVs. While companies like Metro Supply Chain are investing in stations that enable last-mile deliveries in core city areas, there isn’t enough to support long-haul shipments that require refuelling on Canada’s highways. This is one reason why Metro Supply Chain built its own charging capabilities through an innovative mobile station.

“If Canada wants to slash its emissions to zero by 2050, we will need reliable charging for the logistics sector. In the meantime, with more of our customers wanting to cut their own emissions, there’s an opportunity for us to take a lead in innovating infrastructure solutions that will drive the whole industry forward,” says Thayani Dayahparan, Principal Solutions and Innovation Architect at Metro Supply Chain and white paper author.

While companies could wait to see if future policies favour more EV-related financial incentives and logistics before committing to zero-emission delivery, delaying will put businesses further out of step with today’s environmentally conscious consumers.

“In October 2019, we were one of only two logistics companies to adopt Class 5 electric vehicles,” explains Cedric George, white paper author and President of Custom Delivery Solutions, Metro Supply Chain’s last-mile delivery division. “In early 2021, we grew our electric fleet to include Class 6 OEM EVs to meet a large retailer’s needs for sustainable deliveries. We’ve committed to growing our fleet over the coming years to support our customers with cost-effective zero-emission delivery across the country.”

California State DMV Purchases Fifteen Beam Global EV ARC™ Off-Grid EV Charging Systems

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 19, 2021 — Beam Global, (Nasdaq: BEEM, BEEMW), the leading provider of innovative sustainable technology for electric vehicle (EV) charging, outdoor media and energy security, announced today the California State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has purchased fifteen EV ARC™ solar-powered EV charging systems for public use. The systems were purchased through the California Department of General Services (DGS) Contract #1-18-61-16, which serves to simplify the government procurement process and make chosen solutions available statewide at the best negotiated pricing.

“Contracts like the California DGS contract and the federal GSA contract make EV ARC systems as easy to procure as they are to deploy for government entities across the nation,” said Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley. “Because of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s desire to deploy 1.2 million EV chargers by 2030, we’re seeing more multi-unit orders from government entities, which is promising for the future.”

The California DMV’s fifteen units will offer free public charging at locations across the state for DMV visitors to charge their EVs while they conduct business at the DMV. Each solar-powered EV ARC™ system generates and stores its own clean electricity and delivers that electricity to power two Enel X JuiceBox® Pro EV charging stations. The transportable but permanent systems include the Emergency Power Panel option for first responder use during blackouts and emergencies.

Requiring no connection to the utility grid, Beam Global products eliminate disruptive construction projects, costly electric circuit upgrades and utility charges to deliver significant long-term savings to state agency budgets.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new climate bill on September 23 that included $4 billion in funding for EV charging infrastructure. The California DGS contract is the result of a thorough evaluation of Beam Global’s capabilities, which identified performance-driven sustainable solutions and a strong history of customer satisfaction.

For more information on purchasing Beam’s EV ARC™ ready-to-deploy sustainable EV charging solutions through the DGS Contract, please contact The Beam Team at 858-799-4583 or BeamTeam@BeamForAll.com.

State of California Extends and Expands Contract With Beam Global for Rapidly Deployed Sustainable EV Charging Products

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 14, 2021  — Beam Global, (Nasdaq: BEEM, BEEMW), the leading provider of innovative sustainable technology for electric vehicle (EV) charging, outdoor media and energy security, announced that the State of California has extended Beam Global’s contract #1-18-61-16 to supply EV ARC™ systems to State of California Departments and other governmental entities, and expanded the contract to include government entities in other U.S. states at the California negotiated price, without their having to go through a lengthy procurement or technology review process. The award extends the contract through June 23, 2022.

Use of the contract is mandatory for all State of California Departments and is available for use by local governmental agencies. The contract includes Beam’s emergency power solutions which provide a secure and reliable source of electricity for EV charging and first responders during natural disasters or other periods of utility grid interruption. The new contract also reflects the name change from Envision Solar to Beam Global.

“Now all 50 states can use the California contract to buy Beam’s rapidly deployed solar-powered EV charging systems at the same volume price we offer to the State of California,” said Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley. “Governments and companies nationwide are under increasing pressure to deploy EV charging infrastructure quickly to accommodate the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles. The EV ARC™ is the fastest deployed and most scalable infrastructure solution. It requires no permitting, no electrical work and no construction. It’s sustainably powered with no utility bill and no loss of charging during a blackout. We are delighted to get this expanded contract renewal especially right on the heels of our recently announced Federal GSA contract which does the same things for all Federal agencies including the military.”

President-elect Joe Biden has announced a plan that represents the most ambitious clean energy vision by any U.S. president in history with billions planned for EV charging infrastructure and $4 trillion sought for green jobs and infrastructure spending. On January 5, 2021, the Los Angeles Times reported that California Governor Gavin Newsom pledged to spend $1.5 billion in boosting the purchase of zero emission vehicles and building new charging stations across California, seeking to pair an economic incentive with progress on California’s ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals. In September 2020, Governor Newsom pledged to fast-track California’s environmental goals in response to the climate crisis. He issued an executive order that would require all new cars and passenger trucks sold in the state to be zero emission by 2035. The contract Beam has with the State of California supports these goals, along with the goals of other states

Beam Global, City of San Diego Collaborate to Offer Free Sustainable EV Charging to the Public

Partnership marks the first of a model the company intends to roll out across the U.S.

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 21, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Beam Global (Nasdaq: BEEM, BEEMW), the leading provider of innovative sustainable technology for electric vehicle (EV) charging, outdoor media and energy security, announced a new collaboration with the City of San Diego to deploy solar-powered EV charging infrastructure across the city. In this first-of-its-kind deal, Beam Global intends that its patented EV ARC™ 2020 charging stations will be deployed in both city-owned and business locations through a public-private partnership with a corporate sponsor who will receive global naming rights to the network and highly visible corporate brand placement on the EV ARC™ units. Under the proposed structure, the sponsorship will pay for the renewably-powered EV charging, free for the public to use. The agreement with the City of San Diego signifies a major step forward in Beam Global’s plans to establish networks of public EV charging infrastructure in municipalities across the U.S. and internationally.

“In America’s Finest City, we’re known for pushing the envelope on innovation, often taking the first step in implementing cleaner, greener technologies,” said San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer. “We’re excited about this collaboration with local manufacturer Beam Global to strengthen the City’s renewable energy options and encourage more people in other cities to do the same.”

“The City of San Diego is the ideal choice to launch this unique city-wide EV charging infrastructure initiative and become the first city in the world where it is possible to drive on sunshine, guilt free, emissions free and the best free of all – free, free,” said Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley. “Because our products are deployed without construction or a utility bill, we are uniquely able to provide this type of sponsored EV charging network at scale and with unrivalled speed. The sponsors we seek will be enabling the first city-wide driving on sunshine experience in the world and will get the name recognition and carbon and greenhouse gas emissions offsets associated with the networks. It’s win, win, win for the corporate sponsor, the city, EV drivers, and for Beam Global. I believe we will repeat this model in many other major cities because it makes so much sense for everyone involved.”

Beam Global EV charging products enable municipalities and states to build zero-emissions infrastructure that is rapidly scalable as charging needs evolve. Beam Global and the City of San Diego are actively seeking sponsorship partners to expand free public access to sustainable charging solutions. Under this innovative model, Beam Global intends to deliver EV charging units monetized through sponsorship and naming rights agreements, allowing the units to be delivered throughout San Diego and other major cities as the program evolves.

The collaboration also advances San Diego’s Climate Action Plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2035, ensure a resilient energy source, and address issues of climate equity. Beam Global’s winning bid uniquely addressed the city’s renewable energy and transportation goals by proposing the deployment of solar-powered EV ARC™ units. Because these units are not connected to the electric grid, Beam Global’s EV chargers are easily deployed, eliminating the need for heavy construction and the resulting disruption associated with grid-tied solutions.

Designed to fit in a standard parking space, without reducing available parking, the patented EV ARC™ requires no permitting, no electrical upgrades, no construction, and generates no utility bill. Each EV ARC™ combines solar generation with on-board energy storage to enable 24/7 charging regardless of weather conditions. Integrated emergency power panels serve as a source of emergency power during blackouts or natural disasters. Each unit can reach up to 12 parking spaces and is ADA compliant. The small footprint and construction-free deployment does not disrupt city planning efforts while providing a highly visible opportunity for EV owners to charge and for corporate sponsors to display their brands.

This new business model for EV charging infrastructure delivery positions Beam Global to create similar public-private partnerships globally, building upon the company’s existing relationships with numerous municipal, state and federal government agencies across the U.S., including the State of California and the City of New York.

RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW) announced today it has made the final delivery to Josephine Community Transit (Josephine), located in Grants Pass Oregon, Josephine County. The project included supplying and rehabilitating two 35ft Gillig buses.

The project supports the City of Josephine and its efforts to enrich the passenger experience.  The work was completed at CCW’s headquarters in Riverside, CA. The job specifics included the installment of Cummins ISL Recon engines and rebuilt Allison transmissions. CCW also installed new floorings, ADA wheelchair ramps, driver seats, as well as updated interior and exterior LED lighting. In addition, the buses were painted a sleek and stylish blue to reflect Josephine’s branding.

“The buses look remarkable, just like brand new buses,” said Regional Sales Manager at CCW, Jim Paul. “These vehicles were not only economically convenient for Josephine Community Transit, but also helps sustain the environment for future generations.”

The rehabilitated buses are an efficient approach to acquire and extend the useful life of the buses well beyond the usual life expectancy, while at the same time saving a substantial amount of money. The cost of a rehabbed bus is a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new bus. The vehicles also enhance safety and offer improved vehicle reliability for years to come.

Scott Chancey, Transit Manager at Josephine Community Transit stated, “The delivery of these vehicles allows us to transition to larger heavy-duty transit vehicles at quicker than anticipated pace. This transition is critical for us to consistently provide good transit access through the urbanized areas of Josephine and Jackson County.”

“We are excited and honored to have been selected for the Josephine project. We value their business and relationship and look forward to the opportunity of working together again in the future. We are happy to be a part of the continued evolution of transit,” said Jim.
