Flowbird Completes First Ever Local Authority Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge Point Project for Wokingham Borough Council New Innovative EV Infrastructure to Link Charging and Payments Together

Flowbird Smart City UK has completed its first local authority electric vehicle (EV) charge point pilot project  Flowbird Smart City UK has completed its first local authority electric vehicle (EV) charge point pilot project for Wokingham Borough Council. This major infrastructure upgrade will help meet demand for the growing use of EVs across the borough.

Wokingham EV drivers can access Flowbird Smart City UK’s App which charges for both the parking session and the kW consumed – this innovative trial allows the council to offer combined or separate parking and charging rates. The app can be accessed by registered users or guests.

It is also planned that – in two months’ time – Flowbird Smart City UK’s Cale Web Terminal will be linked directly to the charge points. This will be the first time a parking pay and display terminal will provide options for everyday park and charge users, making EV charging easier and more inclusive.

Danny Hassett, Flowbird’s Managing Director Smart City UK, says: “Wokingham’s new EV connectivity will be innovative, as linking a payment terminal to a charge point is a new development in parking and charging. As EVs move from early adopters to the mainstream, people need simple ways to both park and charge and the option to pay in whichever ways suits them. And councils need ways to price both parking and charging separately or as a bundle. This solution will meet both needs for the first time.”

The system is backed up with a 24/7 support line – to help end-users troubleshoot any unforeseen operational issues – offering a solution to out-of-service terminals that frustrates users and deters EV uptake.

The new EV charge points – located in three busy parking sites across the borough at Dinton Pastures Country Park, Carnival Pool MSCP and Shute End Eastern car parks – are all three-phased, which give out a 22kWh charge, and support all new EVs that utilise a standard AC charger.

Geoff Hislop, Parking Manager, Highways and Transport, at Wokingham Borough Council, said: “We chose Flowbird Smart City UK for this trial as their solutions are both cutting-edge and reliable. We are confident we now have infrastructure that will support the demand for electric vehicle use now and in the future.”

Wokingham’s new EV charge points are now ready to use for residents and visitors.

Danny Hassett concludes: “For many years Flowbird Smart City UK have provided parking solutions that are known for their quality and support. We can offer a one-stop app to provide park and charge in Wokingham, which is easy to set up and cost effective for visitors and residents.”

Flowbird Unveils Pay by Text Solution – No App or Account Required

Moorestown, New Jersey – Flowbird North America, the leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions, has released Pay by Text, its latest advancement in customer convenience. Pay by Text is an easy to use web-based solution that allows drivers to pay for their parking session directly from their phone without creating an account or downloading an app.

Flowbird’s latest feature adds to the company’s impressive portfolio of payments options, providing parkers with a new way to pay in today’s contactless environment. Here’s how it works:

Drivers text a code to the number provided on the sign or sticker displayed at the parking location.  A QR code can also be included on the signage if desired.  After the driver texts the number or scans the QR code, they immediately receive a secure link to follow in order to input their parking details. They enter either their license plate or parking space number, parking duration and payment information. A confirmation is sent and their parking session begins. Information is sent to parking enforcement who can verify the vehicle is in compliance. That’s it! There is no need to create an account, download an app, or visit a kiosk.

Like all Flowbird payment solutions, the Pay by Text solution is PCI-DSS certified, giving assurance to parkers that their data is protected. Once the parking session is complete, the payment information is encrypted and the card data is not stored by Flowbird. To provide the parker with future convenience, their mobile device can store the card number in an encrypted manner so the number does not have to be re-entered the next time a parking session is performed.

By offering the customer multiple options to pay, cities and universities can help motorists stay in compliance with parking enforcement, reducing the number of citations and potentially negative parking experiences.  Flowbird provides clients with stickers and signage to promote the solution and drive adoption.

The Pay by Text feature is configurable to be used in either a pay-by-plate or pay-by-space parking system. The feature can be used as a stand-alone parking payment method or in conjunction with parking meters, kiosks or parking apps.

Pay by Text data is sent in real-time to Flowbird’s intelligent data management suite where it can be integrated with other payment methods. Using the combined data, parking staff can analyze sessions in real time such as parking activity by zone, by date, by time of day, and more.

This new payment option is a strong complement to Flowbird’s other payment solutions which include solar powered pay stations and parking meters, digital permit system, and the Flowbird App, which has experienced tremendous growth, and can be found in over 900 cities and universities around the globe.

“We are very excited about the launch of the Pay by Text service,” said Benoit Reliquet, President of Flowbird North America. “The addition of this feature rounds out our payments offering, and gives people even more convenience and choice when they park.”

City of Des Moines upgrades to smart multi-space technology with Flowbird Group

Capital City Waves Goodbye to Over 3,000 Single Space Meters

Moorestown, New Jersey – The City of Des Moines, Iowa, has just announced an exciting upgrade to its parking system in partnership with Flowbird Group, the leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions. Flowbird, along with its local distribution and service provider, Baker Group, is in the process of implementing a smart multi-space pay station solution offering several exciting features to downtown motorists.

The City of Des Moines is Iowa’s capital city and most populous community with more than 217,000 residents. Downtown Des Moines supports 80,000 jobs each day, equating to over 35% of all jobs in the metro area. The City accommodates the daily influx of vehicles to the downtown area with a combination of 6 city-owned parking garages and 3,406 on-street parking spaces.

In 2020, the City released an RFP to modernize its on-street parking system, which, at the time, consisted of over 3,000 single space parking meters coming close to the end of their life span.  The RFP stated the following goals: integrating data among on-street and off-street parking, convenient use for the public, enhancing short-term parking turnover at the curbside and long-term parking in garages, and remote regular and event rate changes.

Following a thorough RFP evaluation and a competitive trial, Flowbird was selected as the City’s highest ranking proposer to implement the new system which consists of over 400 solar powered smart multi-space parking pay stations.  The pay stations feature a 9.7” full color touch screen that provides an experience similar to that of using a smart phone. Motorists will appreciate the ease of use and simplicity of the transaction flow as well as additional convenient features to help people stay in compliance with parking regulations.  New payment methods such as Apple Pay and Google Pay are offered on the pay stations as well as a “text to extend” option that allows motorists to extend the parking session from their mobile device.

The pay stations are configured for Pay-by-Space parking, and the system is integrated with the City’s citation issuance system provided by Cardinal Tracking.  Enforcement officers utilize wireless devices to check the status of each space.  There is no need for a motorist to place their receipt on their dashboard.

All transaction data from the pay stations is sent in real-time to Flowbird’s intelligent data management suite ready to be integrated with other payment modes such as mobile phone payments.  Using the data provided by the Flowbird system, City staff can analyze data in real time such as parking activity by zone, by date, by time of day, and more. Staff can view current and historical parking activity on Google Maps, helping them make critical decisions about when to change parking rates, where to place new meters, and where to focus enforcement efforts. Flowbird’s back-office system allows for remote changes to rates, messages, and screen layouts, ensuring that the pay stations are always up-to-date with the latest policy details.

Implementation of the project has already started with a multi-phased approach.  The City anticipates that over 300 pay stations will be installed by the end of February.  Flowbird is working closely with the Baker Group team on physical installation of the pay stations and Quality Striping, another local Des Moines based company, on single space meter removal and sign installation.

In addition to Des Moines, Flowbird systems can be found in 24 state capitals across the country, serving the critical role of managing parking in locations that offer many commercial and governmental services.  Flowbird supports over 47,000 parking pay stations for 900 customers throughout the U.S.

Flowbird and Wescor Deliver Integrated Parking Solution To Gloucester, MA

Flowbird and Wescor Deliver Integrated Parking Solution To Gloucester, MA

New Parking Pay Stations and Mobile Application Launched In Vibrant Coastal Community

Moorestown, NJ —  Flowbird Group, a global leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions, announced that it has launched a new parking system for the seaside community of Gloucester, MA in partnership with its local distribution partner, Wescor Parking Controls.  Located 45 minutes from Boston, Gloucester is home to America’s oldest seaport.  Visitors come from all over to visit unique shops, artists, and award winning restaurants, making it very important to have an easy-to-use parking solution.

Visitors to Gloucester now have the option to pay at any one of the 79 solar powered parking kiosks or on the Flowbird mobile app.  The system is setup for Pay by Plate parking where parking enforcement is managed by the driver’s license plate number.  All transactions made at the pay stations, and on the Flowbird app, are sent in real-time to the City’s enforcement system.

Gloucester has utilized Flowbird parking kiosks in off-street parking lots for almost 10 years.  This new implementation expands the use of parking kiosks to on-street locations, replacing the City’s single space parking meters.  Drivers now have the convenience of paying with their credit card at the kiosks, or on the Flowbird app, which is available for iPhone or Android or at www.flowbirdapp.com.

The convenience of the Flowbird app helps drivers avoid citations by offering text notifications when time is about to expire and the app also provides time extension functionality. Designed as a true mobility app, the Flowbird app features a map-based user interface, integrated with Waze and other navigation systems to guide users to their preferred parking location.  Flowbird app accounts can be set up for individual motorists or for businesses to manage their fleets.

The City will also benefit from Flowbird’s elite back-office management suite. The system integrates reporting of all meter and mobile transactions, making it easier than ever to manage the parking system minute-by-minute. Flowbird’s powerful data hub provides the City with block-by-block parking activity information, aggregating payments from the Flowbird pay stations and the Flowbird app into one central web-based system.

Flowbird continues to increase its presence in Massachusetts where it recently deployed a new parking solution in Worcester and has had a long term presence in the cities of Boston, Andover, Beverly, Medford, Pittsfield, and Somerville.

Flowbird Launches Mobile Application For Admission to Austin Swimming Pools

Flowbird Launches Mobile Application For Admission to Austin Swimming Pools

Mobile App and Website Bring in 15,000 Transactions Per Month

Moorestown, NJ —  Flowbird Group, a global leader in mobile and automated payment technology, has expanded its services in the City of Austin by announcing the launch of a complete mobile and self-service ticketing solution for Austin Parks and Recreation Aquatic Division (PARD).  The new Flowbird mobile ticketing app, ATX Swims, allows users to remotely purchase entry tickets for the Division’s public aquatic facilities. In addition, Flowbird successfully deployed automated fee payment machines located at 2 of the major PARD facilities, making it easier than ever to access on-site ticket sales.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Aquatic Division operates 45 public aquatic facilities, including renowned Barton Springs and Deep Eddy Aquatic Center. In addition to being the cool-off destination in the hot summer months, PARD’s facilities also host open water events, swim team competitions, and instructional programs. To better streamline the purchase of entry passes and make the best use of staff time during the busy summer months, PARD, in partnership with Flowbird, launched a mobile application and self-service kiosk solution.

ATX Swims, a City branded mobile application powered by Flowbird, gives visitors the convenient option to purchase entry passes before they arrive to their Austin Aquatics destinations.  By downloading the app, users can select from various entry passes including: Resident/Non-Resident Day or Season entry passes, and Adult, Child, or Senior passes. Once they have added all desired tickets to their mobile cart, they may complete their transaction with a debit or credit card. The purchased products are stored on the app until they are ready to be activated on the day-of-use. Upon arrival, the user pulls up their pass on the app’s ‘Passes’ tab and presents it to the facility attendant on duty. The attendant scans the mobile QR code with Flowbird’s handheld validation solution called ‘Hawkeye’ and the visitor then proceeds to enter the facility.

For visitors that do not wish to use the app, PARD has deployed Flowbird self-service kiosks.  Now, PARD staff do not have to spend time taking payments at an entrance booth. Rather, they can focus on more critical day-to-day tasks while pool goers enjoy the convenience of using the app or the easy-to-use kiosks which feature a 9.7” full color touch screen display.

The payment kiosks, along with mobile app and Hawkeye enforcement solution, are remotely managed by Flowbird’s cloud hosted Flowbird Hub solution.  This powerful tool helps PARD staff manage payment processing, all configurations related to fee structure, and product availability times.  Parks staff have 24/7/365 access to the Flowbird Hub, providing real-time visibility on pool admissions.

This solution expands on other mobility services provided by Flowbird in the City of Austin.  The City has been a Flowbird client for over a decade and utilizes over 800 Flowbird payment kiosks to help manage parking occupancy downtown.

“We are very proud of our long relationship with the City of Austin,” said Benoit Reliquet, President of Flowbird North America. “The City is truly a leader when it comes to innovation and we are happy to play a key role for their parking and parks & recreation departments.”

As of September 2021, The ATX Swims mobile app combined with corresponding website, Pard.Flowbirdhub.com, average 15,000 transactions per month.

Flowbird Provides Convenience To South Dakota State Parks Staff and Visitors

Flowbird Provides Convenience To South Dakota State Parks Staff and Visitors

Touch Screen Parking Kiosks Provide For Simple Parks Fee Collection

Moorestown, NJ —  Flowbird Group, a global leader in unattended payment technology and mobile payment applications, has announced the successful deployment of automated fee machines for its latest parks & recreation client – South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks.  The agency released an RFP at the end of 2020 for the procurement of Self-Service Kiosks to aid visitors in purchasing various self-service products at South Dakota State Parks and Recreation areas.  Flowbird was awarded the project and quickly delivered over 80 pay stations, which were subsequently installed across 57 parks statewide.

The deployment of pay stations comes at the right moment as South Dakota State Parks saw record visitation numbers last year.  In 2020, over 8 million people visited the parks, up 31% from 2019 and 16% higher than the next highest year (2013).  Many different outdoor activities are available throughout the parks including hiking, biking, camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and snowmobiling to name a few.

The Flowbird pay stations are built for unattended environments, and can be installed in any climate.  With solar power and wireless functionality, agencies can place them just about anywhere within their parks. The South Dakota State Parks pay stations feature a 9” full color touch screen display to make it easy for park visitors to purchase either a daily pass or an annual pass with a credit card.  When visitors make their purchase of an annual pass, they are prompted to provide their mailing address so the agency can send an official hard copy version of the pass in the mail.

This project benefits parks visitors and agency staff.  Now visitors can quickly pay for their admission passes at the Flowbird pay stations while parks staff manage other critical day-to-day activities.  Additionally, when entrance stations are not staffed, parks visitors can still pay for their admissions.

Parks staff have 24/7/365 access to Flowbird’s back-office system, providing real-time visibility on parks admissions, with the capability to view the activity at each of the 57 parks.  Flowbird hosts all of the data, and provides South Dakota State Parks with web based access to run custom reports and monitor the status of each pay station.

“We are very pleased to work with the South Dakota State Parks team to deploy this customer friendly solution,” said Benoit Reliquet, President of Flowbird North America.  “We see that more and more people are visiting parks across the country and our technology is a natural fit to provide park goers with a great experience while reducing the amount of time agency staff need to spend collecting admission fees.”

South Dakota State Parks joins several other state agencies that have deployed Flowbird solutions including Colorado Parks & Wildlife, Delaware State Parks, New Hampshire State Parks, Washington State Parks, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

South Lake Tahoe Launches Flowbird App

Parking convenience comes to drivers in SLT this summer

Moorestown, NJ —  Flowbird Group, a global leader in smart city and campus solutions, has announced that it has launched the Flowbird app in the City of South Lake Tahoe, California. The smart mobile parking solution will bring ultimate convenience to motorists, allowing users to pay for parking with their iPhone or Android devices.

South Lake Tahoe brings in nearly 3 million visitors per year for both its great summer activities and winter sports. The area is known for its highly-acclaimed restaurants, diverse shopping and for its casinos that lie just over the Nevada state line. Visitors will travel great distances to ski at the famous ‘Heavenly Mountain Resort’ and then stay to explore all the city has to offer. For this reason, having an easy way to find and pay for parking is crucial to keep locals and visitors coming back to the destination’s local businesses.

In April of this year, the City partnered with Flowbird Group to launch the Flowbird App, the app platform that services over 2.5 million users worldwide.

The Flowbird App offers an easy, fast and secure option to make mobile parking payments. Once the app is downloaded to a user’s mobile device, a quick registration process walks them through their profile and payment set up. When ready to park, users simply select their parking location from the GPS enabled map, choose a duration and confirm payment. A notification will be sent to the user when the parking session is about to expire with an option to extend right from their phone. Payment methods can be securely stored for quick and easy parking transactions in the future.

The app provides users with a map-based user interface, making it simple for users to select their parking location without manually inputting a zone code or scanning a QR code.  Drivers can get a reminder notification when their time is about to expire and they can extend their time right from their mobile device.  Walking directions back to their original parking location are also a handy feature of the app.

Over 125 cities and universities are now using the Flowbird app to help manage parking around the country. Globally, Flowbird’s mobile platform generates over 50 million transactions a year. For more information, please visit www.flowbirdapp.com.

The Flowbird Mobile App Is Launching In The City of Akron

Parking convenience comes to drivers in Akron this summer

Moorestown, NJ —  Flowbird Group, a global leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions, announced that it is launching the Flowbird app in the City of Akron, Ohio at the end of June. The smart mobile parking solution brings ultimate convenience to motorists, allowing users to find and pay for parking with their iPhone or Android devices. Flowbird has worked closely with the City of Akron’s parking operator, ABM Parking Services, to customize and test the app in preparation for metered parking to relaunch after a year of free parking downtown.

The City of Akron has over 1,000 parking spaces throughout its downtown core to service patrons visiting local shops, businesses and restaurants. In addition, the downtown is home to the University of Akron and Canal Park, the stadium for Akron’s minor league baseball team, the Akron RubberDucks. To manage parking occupancy in this challenging environment, ABM utilizes a mix of both Flowbird parking kiosks and single-space meters. With the launch of the Flowbird app, visitors will now have an additional option of payment via their mobile device.

The Flowbird App allows downtown visitors to find and pay for parking without stopping at a pay station or meter. Users can opt-in to receive text notifications when time is about to expire and extend their time without needing to cut their downtown experience short. Designed as a true mobility app, the Flowbird app features a map-based user interface, integrated with Waze and other navigation systems to guide users to their preferred parking location.

Setting up an account is quick and simple after the app is downloaded to a mobile device from the App Store or Google Play Store. Accounts can be set up for individual motorists or for businesses to manage their fleets.

Flowbird’s powerful data hub provides the City with block-by-block parking activity information, aggregating payments from the Flowbird pay stations and the Flowbird app into one central web-based system.

Flowbird has partnered with two local Akron companies to help promote the Flowbird app. Ambassadors will be on-site the week of June 28th to perform a public outreach campaign, visiting with local merchants and the parking public to announce that the Flowbird app is now available.

Over 125 cities and universities are now using the Flowbird app to help manage parking around the country. Globally, Flowbird’s mobile platform generates over 50 million transactions a year. For more information, please visit www.flowbirdapp.com.

Flowbird: St. Pete Beach Unveils Tropical Transformation to Smart Parking Kiosks

St. Pete Beach Unveils Tropical Transformation to Smart Parking Kiosks

New look comes as the City welcomes convenient Flowbird parking app

Moorestown, NJ —  The City of St. Pete Beach, Florida, recently awarded as the #1 beach destination by TripAdvisor in the U.S., has partnered with Flowbird Group to make a unique statement on the City’s smart parking kiosks. All 35 Flowbird kiosks are being upgraded with 9” full color touch screen displays and converted from their standard black exterior to a custom blue and teal design that reflects the City’s brand and welcoming message. The eye-catching design is being released at the same time that the Flowbird App is being introduced to the beach destination for an easier way to find and pay for parking.

St. Pete Beach has been a partner of Flowbird Group since 2006 and is known for staying up-to-date on the latest parking technologies to benefit the City’s 5 million visitors every year. The City grabbed the opportunity to promote their prestigious “Best of the Best” beach award from TripAdvisor in 2021 in the form of custom wraps for their newly upgraded parking kiosks. The new design transforms the kiosks from a parking pay station to a decorative piece fit for a top tourist destination. The custom printed wraps, designed and installed by Flowbird, display the iconic ‘Best of the Best’ TripAdvisor surfboard proudly printed on the back and the City’s branding on all sides. The design also features the new convenient way to pay for parking in SPB, the Flowbird App.

“We are making changes in an effort to ensure a great experience for our beach-goers, said Michelle Gonzales, Community Development Director for the City of St. Pete Beach, “Using technology to improve parking was a must for us. Flowbird kiosks provide that frictionless experience we wanted for our visitors so they could spend less time paying for parking and more time enjoying our beaches. The wraps are beautiful and functional. It’s a small detail, but it upholds our branding and contributes to the continuation of our reputation as the best beach in the nation.”

The easy-to-use parking payment app by Flowbird allows visitors to find and pay for parking on the spot. While the kiosks will be available to use by all visitors and beach-goers, the app offers the convenience to skip the kiosk and head straight to the shore with pay-by-cell technology. Users can also opt-in to receive text notifications when their parking session is about to expire and extend their time without ever leaving their beach chair. The app is GPS-enabled which allows users to search for the nearest City parking lot and select their parking location without manually inputting a zone code.

If a beach-goer finds themselves waiting in line at a newly designed kiosk, they can simply follow the instructions listed on the side of the unit to download and start using the Flowbird App. From there, setting up an account is quick and they can be on their way to paying for their parking session remotely.

“In the past, busy beach times meant waiting to pay. No one enjoys that. Our new parking kiosks were designed for ease and speed. If there are people ahead in line to pay, go mobile. It’s a terrific option that improves the beach-going, shopping, and dining experiences for everyone who comes to St. Pete Beach.”, said Peyt Dewar, Code and Parking Enforcement Manager for the City of St. Pete Beach.

The City will be able to manage and monitor all parking sessions through Flowbird’s powerful data hub.

All parking activity information from Flowbird pay stations, the Flowbird mobile app, and 3rd party mobile apps are aggregated into Flowbird’s back-office system to allow City staff to have a global view of all parking activity.

The Flowbird app is now available to use at all City-owned parking lots and zones, including on-street parking. New informational signs have been installed along all areas where the Flowbird App is available.

The new touch screen displays and kiosk wraps are currently being installed and are expected to be completed by this June.

The City of St. Pete Beach joins many other beach communities across Florida utilizing the Flowbird app and Flowbird kiosks, including Jacksonville Beach, Madeira Beach, Neptune Beach, and Pensacola. The Flowbird app is now available in over 100 parking locations across the United States, and the company’s mobile applications generate over 50 million transactions per year.  For more information, please visit www.flowbirdapp.com.
