Fulham Demonstrates SIG-Qualified Bluetooth Mesh Wireless Lighting Control System at LightFair 2019

Bluetooth Hardware and Software Delivers Control over LED Lighting

PHILADELPHIA – May 21, 2019 – At LightFair 2019 this week, Fulham, a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, will display its new LED luminaire EliteControl hardware/software solution that uses Bluetooth mesh for wireless lighting control. The wireless luminaire control system includes an LED driver with a Bluetooth mesh interface, a new SmartBridge device for retrofitting luminaires with Bluetooth mesh controls, and an iOS commissioning app. All of Fulham’s Bluetooth mesh solutions have been qualified as interoperable by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).

Wireless lighting controls provide an extensible, cost-effective way to provide dimming and other luminaire controls using a Bluetooth mesh network. Bluetooth mesh is secure, scalable, and provides-out-of-the-box connectivity. With a Bluetooth mesh ecosystem in place you can control luminaires with wireless light switches, sensors and other Bluetooth-enabled components from a laptop to handheld devices.

“We are getting more requests from distributors and OEMs for wireless controls for luminaires, especially for retrofit projects,” said Alvaro Garcia, Senior Director, Product Management for Fulham. “We now have SIG-qualified Bluetooth drivers modules, bridges, add-on sensors, and even commissioning software. At LightFair we will be showing how you can create an entire luminaire control infrastructure using Fulham’s Bluetooth mesh products.”

The WorkHorse LED Connected Driver is Fulham’s 40W, Bluetooth-ready LED driver with 0-10V dimming. It can be installed as a conventional LED driver and then enabled for Bluetooth mesh by adding an intelligent SmartLink module. Once the SmartLink is connected, the driver is compatible with all third-party SIG-qualified wireless devices such as wall switches and sensors.

To upgrade installed LED luminaires, Fulham has developed the Bluetooth 0-10V SmartBridge. The SmartBridge can be connected to a previously installed 0-10V LED luminaire to add wireless control capabilities. Since it is SIG qualified it can be added to any SIG-qualified Bluetooth mesh ecosystem without disruption. The SmartBridge is ideal for luminaire retrofits, as well as OEMs seeking to develop their own Bluetooth products.

An add-on sensor, the Link and SmartLink+, can be plugged into Fulham Bluetooth products to add motion and light harvesting controls. The sensor is designed to integrate into a Fulham Bluetooth driver or bridge and add automated lighting control support based on room conditions.

Fulham also has developed its own iOS app, eliteBlue, for commissioning, customizing, and monitoring mesh-connected luminaires. eliteBlue can run on iOS-compatible handheld device to customize lighting control parameters commissioning for lighting zones to meet site-specific needs and building energy codes.

To help OEMs, distributors, and installers get started with Bluetooth mesh, Fulham also has the Bluetooth Mesh Lab Kit. The Kit includes a Fulham SmartBridge, an EnOcean double rocker Bluetooth switch, a 9W Vision LED engine, an iPad with Fulham’s eliteBlue commissioning app installed. It’s ideal for testing new Bluetooth-ready products or experimenting with possible installation scenarios.

Fulham will have all its Bluetooth mesh wireless control products on display in Booth 2701. For more information visit http://www.fulham.com.

Fulham Names Chris Veira to Head Distribution Sales and Harold Thompson to Head North American OEM Sales

Staffing changes come after Fulham achieves record revenue in 2018

HAWTHORNE, Calif. – January 28, 2019 – Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, today announced that Chris Veira has been promoted from Southwest Distribution Manager to Director of Sales, North American Distribution. Harold Thompson, who has been serving as Northeast OEM Manager, also has been promoted to Director of Sales, North American OEM.

The changes come following the retirement of Richard White, Vice President, U.S. Distribution Channel, and the departure of Mike Bauer, VP of Global Sales, who left for a job outside of the lighting industry. Thanks largely to a commitment to continued innovation in LED lighting, Fulham has just completed 2018 with record company revenue despite market pressures such as increased tariffs and other costs.

During his 13 year career at Fulham, White was responsible for developing business relationships with the top 10 North American electrical and industrial distributors. He also was instrumental in driving Fulham’s e-commerce initiative, including overseeing the company’s Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Industry Data Exchange Association (IDEA) initiatives.  During White’s tenure both the annual sales volume through distribution and the number of distributors associated with Fulham grew significantly.

Bauer, who was with the company for nearly five years, contributed to Fulham’s growth in the LED and emergency lighting markets, as well as structuring the global sales organization to maximize these types of product sales opportunities.  Bauer, who is based in North Carolina, departed in early January for a role closer to his home.

“During my tenure at Fulham, developing bench strength in all of our departments has been a top priority for me,” said Bob Howard-Anderson, CEO of Fulham. “While Mike and Richard will be missed, we are confident that Harold and Chris will continue to drive our business. It’s never easy to see good people depart, but they left on the high note of record revenue.”

Veira has been with Fulham since 2015, helping build and support the southwestern distribution channel. In his new role he will assume responsibility for overseeing all U.S. sales distribution, including providing sales support and bringing on new distributors.

Thompson has been with Fulham since 2006, helping to expand and service the company’s OEM customers throughout the Northeast.  In his new role he will assume responsibility for overseeing all North American OEM sales, including major accounts.

Howard-Anderson is acting as the interim head of Global Sales while a new leader is being recruited. Fulham was founded in 1994 so 2019 marks its 25th year in business.  The company now employs more than 500 people worldwide in North America, China, India and Europe.

Fulham Releases Bluetooth Bridge to Retrofit Any 0-10v LED Luminaire for Bluetooth Mesh Wireless Control

October 17, 2018

Fulham Releases Bluetooth Bridge to Retrofit Any 0-10v LED Luminaire for Bluetooth Mesh Wireless Control

Bluetooth Bridge First in New Line of BLE-enabled Products that Interoperate with Any Bluetooth Device or Infrastructure

HAWTHORNE, Calif. – October 16, 2018 – Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, today announced availability of a new Bluetooth Bridge 0-10V LED controller, the first in a series of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) components designed to connect luminaires into a Bluetooth mesh ecosystem. The new Bluetooth Bridge can be installed in any electrical box or LED fixture to provide wireless 0-10 dimming control and monitoring.

The Bluetooth mesh standard was approved in July 2017 by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) and offers a number of advantages for wireless lighting controls. The mesh architecture is inherently reliable with built-in failover so there is no single point of failure and luminaires fitted with the Bluetooth Bridge can be added or removed without disruption. Bluetooth mesh also is secure and highly scalable so it can connect thousands of nodes, and it provides a full stack communications protocol platform so it can support the Internet of Things (IoT) devices as part of the network.

There are 32,000 corporate members of the Bluetooth SIG, and any compatible device that has been qualified by the SIG can connect to any other Bluetooth device over Bluetooth mesh. For example, luminaires equipped with Fulham’s new Bluetooth Bridge can be controlled wirelessly by other Bluetooth devices, such as the EnOcean Bluetooth energy harvesting wall switch (also available from Fulham).

“Bluetooth mesh shows great promise for the lighting industry, making it an ideal solution to add wireless lighting controls as part of new installations or LED retrofits,” said Alvaro Garcia, Senior Director, Product Management, for Fulham. “With our new Bluetooth Bridge, installers can convert any 0-10v dimmable LED luminaire into a Bluetooth mesh node. Since Bluetooth is a recognized standard, we anticipate a number of manufacturers will develop their own BLE lighting solutions, and our new Bridge products make it possible to add any LED luminaires to the mix.”

The Bluetooth Bridge is being offered in two configurations. Fulham’s Model CTBRCB02JM02 Bluetooth Bridge provides wireless on/off and 0-10V dimming controls for a transmission range up to 50 meters/160 feet at 2.4GHz. The Bluetooth Bridge has 120 to 277VAC input, as well as a sensor input for motion controls and daylight harvesting. Fulham’s Model CTBRCB03JM03-PC offers additional functionality, including power metering and color tuning. Both units are designed for indoor or outdoor use at operating temperatures from -40 degrees to 140 degrees (Fahrenheit). They both come with Fulham’s five-year warranty.

Since Bluetooth mesh supports two-way communications, the Bridge can be commissioned, controlled, and monitored using an app on any Bluetooth-enabled device, such as a tablet or smartphone. Fulham is offering a lighting commissioning app to support its BLE products. Currently available for iPhones, iPads, and other iOS-compatible devices, the app can be used to remotely program and monitor Bluetooth mesh-connected luminaires. Fulham is making the app available at no cost, although fees will be charged based on the number of luminaires being commissioned.

Fulham Exec to Address International LED professional Symposium on Safety, Security, and Connected Emergency Lighting

September 18, 2018

Fulham Exec to Address International LED professional Symposium on
Safety, Security, and Connected Emergency Lighting

Fulham’s Jeremy Ludyjan, LC, to speak on need to verify emergency lighting readiness and new technologies to enable connected lighting management.

HAWTHORNE, Calif. – September 18, 2018 – At LpS 2018, the eighth International LED professional Symposium being held in Bregenz, Austria, September 25-27, Jeremy Ludyjan, LC, Senior Director, Field Marketing for Fulham Co., Inc., will present a session entitled, “Connected Emergency Lighting – Safety and Security in Controls and Emergency Lighting.” Ludyjan’s presentation will explore changes in emergency lighting safety standards and maintenance and the role of new IoT-enabled LEDs in emergency lighting diagnostics as part of building automation.

There was a time when building managers could walk to an emergency fixture, press a button, and  see the status of an emergency light. With more buildings being retrofitted with cost-effective LED lighting, there is now an opportunity to upgrade emergency lighting, combine emergency and conventional LED luminaires, and create a larger connected ecosystem that provides streamlined light tests and automatic reports. Using sensors built into emergency lighting and connected using wired or wireless controls, scheduled diagnostic and real-time reports reveal more about emergency lighting operation, such as battery health, temperature, power consumption, and overall luminaire readiness.

“Emergency lighting maintenance is a key factor in building safety but it is often overlooked,” said Ludyjan. “Incidents have happened in numerous worldwide locations, including Europe, where faulty emergency lighting likely increased the causalities. Adding connectivity and intelligence to emergency lighting systems is a simple way to go beyond safety code compliance and integrate emergency lighting controls into a larger smart building ecosystem.”

Adding shared sensors to connected emergency lighting systems adds another layer of building intelligence. For example, sensors can monitor heat to identify the location of a fire, determine occupancy to locate people trapped in an emergency, or even use audio sensors to detect an active shooter or terrorist threat. Intelligence from sensors also can be used to illuminate safe exit routes, directing occupants away from a fire or the source of an emergency.

Fulham Co., Inc., a leading supplier of lighting components and electronics for commercial and specialty applications, has been actively research and developing new ways to integrate LED luminaires into smart building infrastructures. The company has recently demonstrated LED luminaires that can be networked using Bluetooth mesh or Power over Ethernet.

Fulham offers a full line of LED emergency lighting systems, including exit signs, emergency lighting retrofit kits, and combination LED luminaires and emergency drivers. For more information, visit www.fulham.com.
