Parking Payment App Launches in Harvard Square

Passport app makes paying for parking easier in Cambridge

Cambridge, MA- The City of Cambridge today unveiled a new way for drivers to pay for metered parking.

Visitors to Harvard Square can now use the Passport parking app at all of the square’s metered parking spaces, including the off-street parking lot between Mount Auburn Street and Bennett Street.

With the app, users can:

  • Purchase parking using a debit/credit card
  • Monitor their session
  • Extend their stay remotely (up to the maximum allotted time)
  • View all parking history

Cambridge joins other Massachusetts cities and town that have launched Passport’s service, including Salem, Acton, Springfield, Newburyport, and Haverhill. Passport also powers the ParkBoston mobile pay app in the City of Boston. Users will also be able to use the ParkBoston app to pay for parking in Cambridge.

“We’re very excited to bring Passport mobile pay to the City of Cambridge,” said Joseph Barr, Cambridge’s Director of Traffic, Parking, and Transportation. “We’re always working to provide a customer-friendly experience to our users, so we’re looking forward to introducing this new payment technology. With Passport, drivers will never have to walk back to the meter or risk a parking citation because they didn’t have enough quarters – everything can be managed easily and conveniently from their phones.”

Cambridge plans to expand the app to all of the city’s over 3,000 metered parking locations in the near future.

The PassportParking app is free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at ppprk.com.
