TORONTO, June 01, 2022  — Global design and technology firm, IBI Group Inc. (TSX: IBG) (“IBI” or the “Company”), announced today that it has acquired mobility solutions provider, HotSpot (the “Acquisition”). Founded in New Brunswick in 2013, HotSpot began addressing parking issues through technology and has since developed into a suite of integrated mobility solutions. Currently, the platform is in use across Canada and parts of the U.S., with more than 80 municipalities, cities and universities, and 460,000 mobile application users leveraging the platform’s mobility solutions. HotSpot’s suite of solutions will complement and bolster IBI’s traffic and transportation practice and its extensive offering of products and solutions that have been deployed globally, including CurbIQ, Travel-IQ, TRANSIT Data Suite and Smart City Platform.

“With a track record of creating complete mobility solutions, HotSpot’s proven technology in Canada and inroads into the U.S. will strengthen our market portfolio of smart city solutions and support our strategic expansion goals in the U.S.,” said IBI Group CEO, Scott Stewart. “We look forward to welcoming HotSpot’s talented staff to IBI and continuing to expand and strengthen our expertise in the mobility sector.”

HotSpot specializes in creating products for parking, transit, taxi and merchant payments. Its low infrastructure requirement aids in the rapid rollout of flexible, integrated mobility solutions and provides savings to clients and consumers. HotSpot responds to community parking needs, creating adaptable solutions, including digital permits, gated-entry solutions, and parking enforcement and citation management solutions. In addition to parking, the platform’s app offers clients a digitized resource, combining taxi and transit information so that users can book a taxi, keep track of travel expenses, receive real-time transit updates, schedule and pay for taxis, and pay for public transit.

“We believe we can better serve our existing clients together, and we look forward to seeing HotSpot evolve with IBI through access to new pathways to global markets and a large client base. With a commitment to building sustainable, technologically advanced urban environments, we see many synergies with IBI Group that will support HotSpot’s continued growth across borders and throughout the public-private sectors,” said HotSpot CEO, Phillip Curley.

“HotSpot will add payment capabilities to our strong portfolio of mobility solutions in the urban space, and it complements our innovative product, CurbIQ. Together, both solutions will provide a comprehensive set of tools for the parking and curbside management needs of any city,” said IBI Group Global Director, Innovation, Deepak Darda.

HotSpot can enhance IBI’s existing traveller information solutions, which have already been deployed in South Africa, North America, and the UK. The Acquisition builds upon IBI Group’s strategic focus on increasing its recurring revenue and adds to its existing transit-oriented solutions portfolio while growing its expert professional staff.

OperationsCommander announces a new partnership agreement with HotSpot Parking Inc.

CARLETON PLACE, ON – OperationsCommander is excited to announce a new partnership agreement with HotSpot Parking Inc.

HotSpot’s innovative app allows customers to easily pay for temporary parking permits in municipalities, private enterprises, colleges and universities by using handheld devices.

“The temporary parking app market has exploded over the last few years. HotSpot is the perfect solution to provide our clients with a flexible tool to add this popular functionality to the OperationsCommander platform,” said Phil MacCallum, Director of Sales and Business Development at OperationsCommander. “The partnership will be an easy add-on to the existing platform, offering a customer service benefit to all current clients and any future installs.”

HotSpot’s app will be fully integrated with the OPS-COM platform so that permits purchased can be immediately pushed to a client database for real-time enforcement accuracy. As a fully integrated parking app, customers can choose to add this temporary parking functionality at no extra cost.

Instead of charging the end users a service fee for every single transaction, HotSpot offers a monthly or annual membership approach of just two dollars per month or twenty dollars annually. A ten percent discount is available for CAA members.

One of HotSpot’s most popular features is its refund option. It saves users money by allowing them to bank unused parking time for future use.

HotSpot CEO Phillip Curley says the company is excited about partnering with OperationsCommander.

“OperationsCommander is a leader in online and parking security. HotSpot is a leader in providing users with a modern, mobile-based parking solution. This is a natural partnership,” said Curley. “We look forward to offering our superior services together to help users park safely, efficiently and affordably.”

HotSpot is based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The company is best known for their pay-by-phone parking and transit solution. The HotSpot App supports Metered Parking, Permitted Parking and Gated Parking environments and is flexible enough to make “every dollar count.”

OperationsCommander has been in the online parking and security industry for almost 20 years, with clients across North America. Their platform has been developed to serve Higher Education, Health Institutions, Property Management and Municipalities. OPS-COM provides a full service, cloud-based parking and security software platform that can easily scale to any operation.

MACKAY METERS AND HOTSPOT INTRODUCE INTEGRATED SMART PARKING METERS WITH MOBILE PAYMENT AND REALTIME PARKING MAP TO THE CITY OF MONCTON, NB

MACKAY METERS AND HOTSPOT INTRODUCE INTEGRATED SMART PARKING METERS WITH MOBILE PAYMENT AND REALTIME PARKING MAP TO THE CITY OF MONCTON, NB

NEW GLASGOW, NS, February 2nd, 2018 – J.J. MacKay Canada Limited (MacKay Meters), a leading manufacturer of smart parking meters, and HotSpot Parking Inc. (HotSpot), a Fredericton based company best known for their pay-by-phone parking and transit solutions, today announced a fully integrated parking solution for the City of Moncton, New Brunswick. The City of Moncton recently purchased several hundred new mkBeacon™ wireless smart parking meters from MacKay. The City’s MacKay mkBeacon parking meters will now communicate their paid status to HotSpot’s Realtime Parking Map, helping drivers find available parking spaces by using HotSpot’s mobile application.

Available metered parking spots appear as green P’s on HotSpot’s Realtime Parking Map (http://realtimeparking.ca/). When a driver pays for parking with either coins or credit card at any new mkBeacon parking meter, the meter communicates that paid status to HotSpot and the parking spot then changes to red on the map. When time expires on the meter, the parking spot icon shown on the map changes back to green, allowing drivers to recognize that the parking spot is available. Similarly, when paying for a parking spot using the HotSpot Parking mobile app, the corresponding space would turn red on the parking map and back to green when time expires.

“We are always looking at ways to make parking easier and more efficient for the parker. With this system now available in Moncton, we have achieved both of those goals quite effectively. The new mkBeacon smart meters now installed on-street, along with the HotSpot mobile pay app real time parking occupancy map, make the City of Moncton one of Canada’s most advanced parking systems. It’s fantastic that two Atlantic Canadian companies can bring this type of technology to the streets of an Atlantic Canadian city,” said James MacKay, VP of Sales at MacKay Meters.

“Municipalities have been asking for real-time parking availability for years and technology is finally reaching a place where a municipality of any size can introduce the best parking experience possible to their citizens. We’re proud to pioneer this in the City of Moncton, but this a feat achievable by any motivated municipality,” said Phillip Curley, CEO of HotSpot.

“By offering Realtime Parking and giving users multiple ways to pay for an on-street parking space, it has made the experience of parking that much easier. The new MacKay mkBeacon smart meters with our HotSpot (Pay By Cell) service has also allowed us to reduce redundancies within our system and streamline the service for our users,” said Stephane Thibodeau, Transportation and Parking Coordinator with the City of Moncton.
