Washington Regional Medical Center installs INDECT’s intelligent parking guidance system to manage multiple user groups

INDECT USA has successfully completed their first parking guidance installation at Washington Regional Medical Center (WRMC) in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

A total of 254 ultrasonic sensors with internal LEDs and an additional 134 NEDAP inground sensors were installed through INDECT’s trusted regional partner, IPSens.

“INDECT has worked with IPSens on a number of parking guidance projects where we have successfully integrated the NEDAP sensor into the INDECT system but this was the first time that it was done in reverse,” said Stephen Evans, General Manager at INDECT USA. “This time, we supplied the sensors and IPSens took care of the rest. They were completely responsible for the integration, installation and commissioning of the system and they’ve done a great job.”

IPSens are widely recognized as experts in data integration and open IP solutions.  They provide clients with intelligent parking solutions by integrating multiple products on a single, unified platform using open API, internal revenue, parking enforcement and mobile payments.

The parking facility at WRMC is small but consistently busy with specific sections designated for physicians, patents/visitors, providers and employees. The hospital had been searching for a way to fairly and equitably allocate a limited resource among multiple user groups and be able to monitor the facility to ensure compliance. The answer was parking guidance.

“The sensors are located directly above each parking spot with color coded LEDs to match their allocated user group. This makes it easy for drivers to quickly identify the correct parking area and locate the nearest available space.” said Evans.

“It also makes it easy tell at a glance whether employees are parking in the patient/visitor area or vice versa.” he said.

“Although it is easy to see why parking guidance is needed in large parking garages, like those found in airports and shopping centers, we find that some of the most innovative uses of parking guidance technology come from organizations with limited space.” Evans concluded.

INDECT Matrix Signs a key Feature in the Transformation of Concord Estates, NJ

October 15, 2019

INDECT Matrix Signs a key Feature in the Transformation of Concord Estates, NJ

(Passaic, NJ, October 15, 2019) INDECT USA has been awarded the coveted parking guidance contract at Concord Estates, the new multi-million-dollar, mixed-use development project in Passaic, New Jersey.

The new Concord Estates is a dramatic redevelopment of an old, disused enameled can factory located just under 2 miles from downtown Passaic. The manufacturing site has been a steady presence in the area’s historical records, dating back over 100 years.

A total of 230 ultrasonic sensors with internal LEDs, seven internal wayfinding signs and two matrix signs will be installed in the three-level parking garage.

“The interesting thing about this project is the sheer size and scale of the matrix signs,” said Dale Fowler from INDECT USA. “These things are massive and the clarity is simply awesome. We’re talking Vegas style resolution.”

Each matrix sign measures 60 inches by 90 inches (1536mm x 2304mm) and has a pixel rating of P4. This number refers to the distance between each pixel on the screen. The smaller the number, the closer the pixels and the sharper the image.

“INDECT is well known in the industry for the quality of our matrix signs. Our standard matrix signs have a pixel rating of P6 and are considered to be among the best in the business. However, in this case the client wanted to be able to display detailed advertising messages containing complex graphics, as well as general messages and daily parking information. So, we recommended they use our ultra-resolution signs.” said Fowler.

The Concord Estate development will bring much needed amenity to the local community and dramatically improve the aesthetics of the area.

Stage 1 of the multi-stage project is currently underway with the parking guidance component expected to be completed by mid-late December 2019.

INDECT: Ultrasonic technology remains KING of parking guidance systems

October 08, 2019

Ultrasonic technology remains KING of parking guidance systems

Camera-based sensors are the newest kids in the parking garage and are causing quite a stir with their impressive bells and whistles. However, INDECT’s ultrasonic technology remains King with its unbeaten record in accuracy, reliability and lowest cost of life.

“Ultrasonic sensors have been around since 1981. The technology has been steadily tweaked, refined and perfected until the industry is now seeing it at its peak evolution.” said Dale Fowler, Former President of INDECT USA. “Any bugs have long since been ironed out and these days they are consistently achieving accuracy levels of 99.9%.”

Automotive grade, long-range ultrasonic sensors with ceramic transducers, like those used by INDECT, measure the height of an object to determine its position.  According to Fowler, this method of detection is extremely accurate and reliable, and has a lifespan of 15-20 years.

“INDECT has installed more than 61,500 ultrasonic sensors in 62 garages across the nation since they first entered the US market in 2012.” said Fowler.

“Dallas Fort Worth International Airport alone has 17,900 ultrasonic sensors installed in terminals A, D and E.” he said.

Short-range ultrasonic sensors, often manufactured in China, have plastic transducers and use echo location. Although cheaper than long-range ultrasonic sensors, this method of detection is much less accurate and has a lifespan of only 6-8 years.

Camera-based sensors contain an internal processor and use complex algorithms to detect objects, requiring regular software and hardware maintenance to avoid system deterioration. The lifespan of a camera sensor is generally 7-10 years. Ultrasonic sensors on the other hand, have basically zero maintenance. Once installed, garage owners can simply turn the system on and let it run.

“Low maintenance is one of the key criteria often requested by owners with high traffic and high turnover garages. INDECT has installed ultrasonic systems at 13 retail and entertainment sites across the US including three garages at Disney World in Florida.” said Fowler

Although the initial cost of installing an ultrasonic system is greater than a camera-based system, individual parts are easy to replace and a fraction of the cost compared to camera-based components.

When choosing a sensor for an above ground garage, which is open to the elements it is essential that the sensor is rated IP 65 or greater to protect against temperature shifts, changes in humidity and dust. An IP 65+ rating will ensure that the sensor has ingress protection from condensing moisture.

According to Fowler, this is important because sensors with lower IP ratings can fail quite quickly in outdoor environments resulting in unexpected repair costs, lengthy maintenance delays and customer dissatisfaction.

“Ultrasonic sensors are definitely a favorite with casinos, especially in Las Vegas where temperature and dust can cause significant problems. There are currently nearly 20,000 ultrasonic sensors installed in 11 casinos in Vegas with a further casino under contract.” said Fowler.

Camera-based sensors, such as INDECT’s UPSOLUT, are a great choice for parking owners that would benefit from the additional features such as license plate recognition, video stream capture, fisheye surveillance, premium parking capability and audio alerts. However, for owners that are looking for highly accurate, reliable detection with quick installation and minimal maintenance, long lifespan and full-spectrum dimmable LEDs without the need for additional camera features, then long-range ultrasonic sensors, such as INDECT’s UMS, are the way to go.

INDECT’s Premium Parking Solution is coming to South Loop, Chicago

September 30, 2019

INDECT’s Premium Parking Solution is coming to South Loop, Chicago

Chicago, IL (September 30, 2019) South Loop garage will be the second location in Chicago to offer customers a premium parking experience with the INDECT parking guidance system.

“We first introduced the concept of premium parking at our downtown location earlier this year and it has been a resounding success. The first-class area is always turning over and the customers are happy.”  said Michael Prussian, Chief Investment Officer and co-founder of Interpark.

“We wanted to offer our South Loop drivers the same level of service as their downtown friends by giving them the opportunity to park in the best spots for a premium price.” said Prussian.

South Loop garage is one of many multi-level parking garages located in Chicago’s vibrant South Loop district and is a popular parking destination due to its proximity to eclectic eateries, shops, theaters and parks.

Michael Prussian is always looking for ways to improve the parking experience for his customers. After observing parking patterns across a number of Interpark garages he made a significant discovery.

“We noticed that many of the best parking spaces were being filled by early parkers at discounted rates and weren’t turning over during the day. This meant that people paying full price were forced to park much farther away from their destination.” he said.

The new first-class parking area will be open to everyone on a first in, best dressed basis, regardless of whether they are first timers or regular monthly parkers.

According to Prussian the area will be well marked with the rules and pricing structure clearly displayed, so there will be no surprises. There will also be no gates or barriers. The revenue systems will automatically charge the customer for the premium parking at the payment machines.

The project will be delivered by local experts, RevCon Technology Group Inc, and will include an installation of INDECT Uspolut camera-based sensors to monitor the premium area.

“The Upsolut camera-based sensors not only alert customers of an open space, they capture valuable time-sensitive LPR data for us and are completely integrated into our revenue system,” said Prussian.

INDECT’s LPR and guidance system will be seamlessly integrated with the existing inhouse software and revenue system.

When a vehicle enters the garage, its license plate will be captured by the LPR system.  This information will be shared with the revenue system, which will then attach the plate number to the parking ticket. When a vehicle parks in the first-class area, INDECT will match the vehicle’s license plate to the LPR whitelist. When the customer goes to pay for their parking, the revenue control system looks up the INDECT database to see if their vehicle is parked in the premium area. If so, they will then be charged the premium rate.

According to Prussian, the innovative technology solution has been so successful, Interpark is considering offering it as a standard feature in all its Chicago garages.

HEB again chooses INDECT Parking Guidance System to be installed at their new premium store at Meyerland Plaza, San Antonio, TX

September 23, 2019

HEB again chooses INDECT Parking Guidance System to be installed at their new premium store at Meyerland Plaza, San Antonio, TX.

SAN ANTONIO TX, (September 23, 2019) HEB has again chosen the INDECT parking guidance system to feature at their new premium store at Meyerland Plaza, San Antonio. This will be the fourth installation of an INDECT parking guidance system at HEB stores.

Thanks to the resounding success of the first three INDECT installations at Bellaire, The Heights and Washington Avenue in Houston, Meyerland customers will soon be able to experience hassle-free parking as well as HEB’s popular curbside pickup/delivery program for themselves.

HEB’s curbside pickup/delivery program offers customers the convenience of being able to order their groceries online or by phone and collect them on their way home or at their earliest convenience.

“We’re pleased to be working with HEB again because it’s projects like this that show the versatility of the INDECT system,” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA.

“Most parking guidance systems are limited to the detection and direction of vehicles within a parking garage but an INDECT system can be customized to solve almost any parking problem.” said Fowler.

The HEB curbside pickup/delivery program is a good example of how INDECT can be adapted for non-standard parking applications. In this case, INDECT used their proprietary software to create a simple loading management system that functions seamlessly alongside the INDECT parking guidance system installed in the main garage.

The installation will be managed by parking guidance experts, Parking Guidance Systems (PGS).

“The introduction of INDECT parking guidance to HEB stores has been a great success.” said Derek Frantz, Business Development Manager at PGS. “Traffic now moves freely in and out of the garage and customers are able to collect their groceries without delay.”

According to Frantz, the customer simply drives to the undercover curbside delivery area and parks in the first available space. This triggers the INDECT sensor to change the light above the bay from green to red, while also sounding an alarm in the delivery area.  An HEB employee then personally delivers the groceries and loads them into the vehicle.

“It’s a testament to INDECT’s reliability and performance that our clients keep coming back to us with additional projects.” said Frantz.

Des Moines International Airport improves parking experience with new INDECT Parking Guidance System

September 16, 2019

Des Moines International Airport improves parking experience with new INDECT Parking Guidance System

DES MOINES, IA (September 16, 2019) INDECT USA today announces the successful installation of their premier ultrasonic parking guidance system at Des Moines International Airport, IOWA, with their local partner The Baker Group.

A total of 1398 individual sensors and 27 wayfinding signs were installed in the airport’s parking garage. The signs are strategically located at each decision-point in the garage and include easy-to-follow guidance for travelers with a disability.

LED RGB sensors are located above each parking spot and clearly identify each space as open (green), occupied (red) or handicapped (blue). The sensors are highly reliable and can be individually programmed to accommodate changing parking needs.

“The system at Des Moines International Airport has been expanded to include the counts from the outdoor parking lots. This way the INDECT system can track availability across the whole airport, not just the garage.” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA.

A huge 60” x 90” full color matrix screen was also installed at the garage entry. This sign not only displays the counts in the garage for each level and user group, it can be used to show advertising or other instructional information to visitors as they enter the garage.

“One of the other interesting things about Des Moines International Airport is that they are taking full advantage of the real-time data and analytics offered by the INDECT system.” said Fowler.

“The Airport is directly feeding the live parking data into their online parking tracker and providing real-time availability across all six parking lots. Travelers can see at a glance how many parking spots are available and whether the lot is still relatively roomy or nearing capacity.” he said.

“We often work with third-party developers to create parking apps that integrate the INDECT system with our client’s parking data but this time the Airport took the initiative and built their own… and it’s great!” Fowler enthused.

Since the installation of the full INDECT parking guidance system, the airport has received numerous comments and positive feedback from their customers. Drivers are spending less time searching for an available space and more time in the terminal.

In addition to enhanced customer satisfaction, increased flexibility and efficiency, and reduced carbon emissions, the INDECT parking guidance system is expected to significantly grow the airport’s parking revenue by increasing parking space usage.

INDECT’s new ‘out of the box’ software produces accuracy rates of 99% within days of installation

June 26, 2019

INDECT’s new ‘out of the box’ software produces accuracy rates of 99% within days of installation

BOSTON, MA (June 26, 2019) INDECT USA, the industry’s leading provider of parking guidance systems, announces a breakthrough in the quest to provide garage owners with a plug-and-play parking guidance solution with their new ‘out of the box’ training set.

The new software enables the INDECT parking guidance system to go live immediately, producing accuracy rates in excess of 99% within days of installation.

“All other parking guidance systems on the market require sensors to observe cars coming and going for their algorithms to learn and achieve accuracy.” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA. “This can take up to 60 days before the system is ready to go live.”

“This can cause issues for new build projects where there are no vehicles to train on until after the garage is open. The owners obviously want the entire garage operational for the ribbon cutting.” Said Fowler.

“Our new training software completely solves that problem because it doesn’t require any cars to be present during the training phase. This means the system can be up and running as soon as the installation is complete.” he said.

“The software incorporates the data from more than 500,000 parking spaces that we have collected worldwide,” said Ingo Herwich, Chief Operations Officer of INDECT Electronics and Distribution. “That’s why the new algorithm is so clever and can be used in so many different garages without any adaptations.”

“It doesn’t matter whether the cars are parked diagonally or at right angles, we have trained for both situations.” said Herwich.

According to Fowler, the ‘out of the box’ solution was first tested in the USA at Dallas Love Field’s new P3 garage where the system successfully achieved more than 99% accuracy within days of installation.

“Often clients are excited about their new parking guidance system and are keen to share it to with their customers. Having to wait can be frustrating. Now they don’t have to.” he said.

Herwich points out there may be some instances where the sensor encounters a garage layout that is completely new or unknown, and the accuracy may drop to 98%. In these situations, the INDECT team collects detailed images of the variation, adds them to the existing dataset and then uses these to boost the accuracy to 99%.

“Our ultimate goal is to achieve 99.5% accuracy out of the box. First time, every time.” said Herwich.

INDECT’s research and development team are constantly looking for ways to perfect the parking guidance experience. Products are regularly updated and refined to ensure they accurately reflect clients’ parking needs.

No Need for LPR or privacy concerns with INDECT’s ‘Car Locator’ software v2.0

June 17, 2019

No Need for LPR or privacy concerns with INDECT’s ‘Car Locator’ software v2.0

Boston, MA (June 17, 2019) INDECT USA today announces the newest version of their popular Car Locator software, version 2.0. This software allows customers to quickly and easily find their car using on-site kiosks or the INDECT Car Locator App.

The latest release features the unique ability to quickly and easily locate customers’ vehicles in any parking garage or open-air lot, while maintaining complete owner privacy and complying with all applicable state laws.

“Previously, some garages were prevented from offering our original Car Locator feature as it uses license plate recognition technology and this conflicts with their local state laws concerning privacy,” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA.

“The latest version of Car Locator uses the unique time and date stamp on each parking ticket to locate the customer’s vehicle and does not require the installation of LPR at all.” said Fowler.

According to Fowler, customers enter the unique time and date stamp from their parking ticket into the onsite INDECT kiosk. The system then displays all vehicles that parked in the garage within 5-10 minutes of this time. The customer is able to select their car and follow the onscreen directions to their vehicle.

“This new version is not just great for protecting people’s privacy, it’s also perfect for states that don’t require vehicles to display front plates and for people who simply do not know their license plate details.” he said.

INDECT also offers garage owners the option of integrating a barcode scanner, or coder from the parking system, into the Car Locator kiosk.  Customers would simply scan their parking ticket barcode and select their car from the vehicles displayed.

“INDECT is constantly researching and developing new technologies to ensure our system continually meets the needs of our customers. We work hard to be the best parking guidance system on the market and that means listening to feedback and using it to generate new ideas and new products.” said Fowler.

INDECT’s unique fish-eye surveillance module allows clients to monitor all aspects of the parking garage not just the parking space

June 11, 2019

INDECT’s unique fish-eye surveillance module allows clients to monitor all aspects of the parking garage not just the parking space

(Boston MA, June 10, 2019) INDECT USA, the industry’s leading provider of parking guidance systems, today reveals their unique, fish-eye surveillance module to the US market.

Unlike any other parking guidance cameras on the market, the INDECT surveillance module offers ultra-high definition, full-colour images that are streamed in real-time, providing complete coverage of the entire parking garage, not just the parking space.

“One of the best features of our fish-eye surveillance module is that you can monitor activity anywhere in the garage, at any time,” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA.

“Most parking guidance cameras focus on the parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the sensor but this doesn’t tell you what’s going on in the rest of the garage.” said Fowler. “You get a nice image of a parked car or a vacant space but you miss out on any activity of interest that might be happening in the stairwells, doorways or driveways.”

“If a theft or vandalism occurs, standard parking guidance cameras might capture an image of the perpetrator but they don’t provide any information about where the person entered the garage or how they exited.” he explained.

“Were they working alone or as part of a team? Where were the security personnel at the time of the incident? All this information is extremely important, not just for catching the person responsible but to make sure it doesn’t happen again.” said Fowler.

The surveillance module is available as an add-on to the UPSOLUT parking guidance system. It is installed directly underneath the sensor but within the IP67 rated housing, making it extremely discrete as well as completely protected from dust, dirt and water.

According to Fowler, it is this unique placement, combined with the fish-eye lens, that enables the module to capture such a wide view. It is not necessary to have the modules installed on every sensor to achieve 100% coverage. Placing them at key position points such as intersections, stairwells, doorways and other pedestrian areas, is enough to provide a complete picture of the garage.

The surveillance module is available in a choice of 3 or 5 megapixels with up to 2592 x 1944 QSXGA full colour image resolution and is capable of streaming at 26 frames/second. This is far superior to the industry standard, which remains at 720 x 480 VGA resolution. The module is also ONVIF compatible so INDECT is able to route all footage directly into the client’s existing, on-site security system.

“Why have two security systems?” said Fowler. “It makes much more sense to view and record the garage footage from within the existing security system. This way the regular security personnel are able to monitor garage activity as part of the whole security operation. They can even work the camera’s pan/tilt/zoom function from within their regular software.”

The surveillance module is ideal for any site that wants to extend their existing security into the garage. This includes universities, airports, casinos, entertainment complexes and shopping malls.

The INDECT surveillance module is currently installed at The Dubai Mall in Dubai.
