Australian Train Stations are on the Right Track with INDECT Parking Guidance Systems

Sydney, AUSTRALIA (June 3, 2019) INDECT Australasia, in collaboration with Access Parking Control Pty Ltd, jointly announces the installation of their world-class parking guidance system at four newly constructed train stations in North Western Sydney, Australia.

A total of 1849 ultra-sonic, single-space sensors were installed at Cherrybrook Station, Bella Vista Station, Kellyville Station and Hills Showground Station as part of the NSW Government’s $7.3bn rail project.

“What we’re seeing in Australia is part of a world-wide trend to make parking garages near train stations and public transport hubs more efficient and user friendly.” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA and CEO of INDECT Australasia. “If it’s quick and easy to find a space it encourages more people to use public transport rather than relying on private vehicles.”

“Greater public transport use means fewer cars on the road, less traffic congestion in urban areas and a substantial reduction in greenhouse emissions.” said Fowler.

The parking guidance installation was carried out by locally-based, parking guidance experts, Access Parking Control.

“It was a huge project with a short deadline. Our technicians worked hard to ensure it was completed in time for the big opening.” said Jim Morris, CEO of Access Parking Control. “We’re really pleased with how it looks and the initial feedback from commuters has been very positive.”

The Sydney Metro Rail Project is Australia’s first fully-automated train system. The driverless passenger trains are manufactured by French rail transportation experts Alstom, and based on the international metro trains currently used in 25 cities worldwide, including Singapore, Barcelona and Amsterdam.

The new trains run through purpose-built tunnels allowing them to travel at speeds up to 100km per hour. The entire system is constantly monitored by highly trained personnel in a state-of-the-art control centre that receives real-time footage from the 230 security cameras placed within the tunnels.

To ensure commuter safety, the metro network functions as a completely closed system with no external connections to Sydney’s other rail networks. Each platform has glass screen doors to keep people and objects away from the edge and allow the trains to get in and out of the station much faster.

INDECT’s ultra-sonic sensors were placed directly above the individual parking spots giving commuters a clear view of all available spaces. Different colours indicate the space’s status: green for available and red for occupied. The lights are clearly visible from a distance with additional LED wayfinding signs directing drivers to the nearest available space.

“When you’re rushing to catch a train, you don’t want to waste time searching for a parking spot, you just want to drive in, park and go. Especially now that the trains are fully automated, there’s no waving to the driver to get his attention. If you’re late, it’s gone.” said Morris

For most passengers, the new North West Metro line is only part of their morning commute. Any delay caused by searching for a parking spot could mean they miss their next connection. Parking guidance helps ease the stress of that early morning rush.

“It’s a really exciting time in Australia’s rail history and we are proud to be part of such a visionary public transport project.” he said.

Beirut International Airport installs INDECT’s world-class UPSOLUT parking guidance system

Beiruit, LEBANON (May 29, 2019) INDECT Electronics and Distribution announces the installation of their world-class UPSOLUT parking guidance system at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport in Lebanon.

142 camera sensors, monitoring 640 parking spaces, have been installed at this busy commercial hub located 9 km from the centre of Beirut in Lebanon.

“Although relatively small in size, the Beirut-Rafic Hariri International airport is extremely important to the people of Lebanon, as it is the only operating commercial airport in the country.” said Ingo Herwich, Chief Operations Officer at INDECT Electronics and Distribution.

“Often the most noticeable improvements in traffic congestion and parking efficiency can be seen when parking guidance is installed in compact parking garages. This is because space availability is in such high demand, that drivers will resort to circling the garage or parking in restricted areas such as time-limited or ADA spaces.” said Herwich.

“However, once people can clearly see the number of vacant spaces on each level and aisle and are quickly and easily guided to the first available spot, the effect is almost instantaneous.” he said.

The airport currently services 59 passenger airlines and nine cargo lines, which account for 8.8 million passengers, 98,200 metric tons of cargo and a total of almost 74,000 aircraft movements annually.

The system has proven so successful, the airport has plans to install additional sensors in the remaining garage levels over the next few years.

Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport has become the 16thinternational airport to choose an INDECT parking guidance solution.

INDECT wins parking guidance contract for San Manuel Casino, California

HIGHLAND, CA (May 21, 2019) INDECT USA has been chosen as the preferred parking guidance system for San Manuel Casino in Highland, California.

An INDECT parking guidance system is currently being installed in three onsite parking lots as part of San Manuel’s $550 million expansion project. The massive construction project also includes the addition of a new six story parking structure, a 500-room onsite hotel and a 4000-seat entertainment venue.

“We’ve had lots of experience when it comes to providing parking guidance for casinos. When this project is complete, San Manuel will be our nineteenth casino installation in the USA.” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA.

Gaming facilities are busy 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Unlike other industries such as retail, education or air travel, there is no down time. Parking spaces are constantly in hot demand and turnover is high.

“Many gaming operators have come to view the parking garage as an extension of the casino lobby. The moment someone enters the garage, they are to be treated as a guest.” said Fowler.

“The INDECT parking guidance system takes all the stress out of finding a parking space so the players arrive happy, relaxed and ready to play.” he said.

Situated next to the beautiful San Manuel reservation, the San Manuel Casino is an easy 70 mins drive from downtown LA and close to the San Bernardino International Airport. The casino currently offers more than 4,700 slot machines, over 200 video poker machines, 100 table games as well as an exclusive high limit room.

Owned and operated by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, the San Manuel Casino employs over 4,900 people making it one of the top ten employers for the region.

INDECT completes world’s largest camera-based parking guidance installation at Istanbul iGA Airport, Turkey

INDECT completes world’s largest camera-based parking guidance installation at Istanbul iGA Airport, Turkey

ISTANBUL, TURKEY, (May 17, 2019) INDECT Electronics and Distribution announces the completion of the world’s largest camera-based parking guidance installation at Istanbul iGA Airport in Turkey.

An unprecedented 3,300 Upsolut sensors covering more than 16,000 spaces and 550 wayfinding signs have been installed in five interconnected garages.

“This was a really exciting project to be involved in,” said Ingo Herwich, Chief Operations Officer at INDECT Electronics and Distribution. “Istanbul Airport is a remarkable architectural accomplishment and it was important that the parking experience was just as impressive. We are proud to have been chosen as the leader in our field.”

Located 35km from the city centre, Istanbul Airport is one of Turkey’s largest construction projects to date. Current capacity is 90 million passengers annually with a single terminal, the airport expects this figure to increase substantially to 200 million passengers when Terminal 2 is complete. This would make Istanbul Airport not only the largest airport in the world but also the busiest, surpassing Atlanta Airport at 104 million passengers annually.

“The five parking garages are interconnected so that when motorists drive through, it appears to be one giant garage. It is easy to feel overwhelmed in such a big space so it was extremely important that the sensors were accurate and the signage layout was intuitive.” said Herwich.

“The iGA installation team were a breeze to work with. They installed more than 3000 sensors and all the signs within three months. It’s the quickest rollout of so many sensors and signs that I’ve ever seen.” he said.

The Upsolut camera system uses LPR technology to assist travelers find their vehicle using INDECT’s advanced car locator function within the IGA Airport app. The app also displays the current parking status of each garage as well as showing the number of available spaces on each level. The app is available for download from both IOS and android stores.

“To ensure complete data privacy, the car locator database has been securely installed on the airport’s own cloud system and can only be queried when a user is connected to the airport’s WLAN. The level count and space availability features are available at all times.” Herwich said.

According to Herwich, the INDECT system software is fully virtualized within the airport’s data centre and an interface to the PARCS, installed by Turkish Parksistem LLC, allows users to securely view their car’s location when paying for parking.

Istanbul Airport has joined the rapidly growing list of airports across the world who choose to rely on INDECT parking guidance systems This brings the total number of global airports featuring an INDECT parking guidance system to 15 with another two still under construction.

INDECT’s outdoor camera system provides 100% coverage for rooftop parking and open-air parking lots

May 01, 2019

INDECT’s outdoor camera system provides 100% coverage for rooftop parking and open-air parking lots.

BOSTON, MA (May 1, 2019) INDECT USA announces their outdoor camera system is now available in the USA.

The outdoor detection sensor (ODE) is unique among parking guidance products as it is the only camera sensor on the market to provide License Plate Recognition on each parked vehicle in non-enclosed parking lots.

Following the successful product launch at Intertraffic in Amsterdam in November 2018, demand for the outdoor sensor has been growing rapidly.

“The amount of interest we have received in the outdoor sensor has been incredible,” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA. “In the five months since we announced the rooftop project at Atlanta Airport, there have been three additional sites installed in the USA.”

“Many of our clients have substantial rooftop areas or large adjoining lots that, up until now, have been missing out on the features of a camera-based parking guidance system.” said Fowler.

“Sometimes, as much as 20-30% of the entire available parking is situated outdoors. While those areas can be integrated into a parking guidance system with wireless sensors or by using zone counting, you don’t get the benefits of a camera-based system such as video security and vehicle location. INDECT has specifically designed the ODE to fill this gaping hole in the market.” he said.

It is well known in the parking guidance industry that loop counting is inherently inaccurate as small errors build up over time and can only be cleared manually. Until now, wireless sensors were the better option for outdoor lots as they are accurate but they have a high cost of ownership due to their limited battery life. These batteries are hard-wired into the sensor and cannot be removed, so when the battery fails the entire sensor has to be replaced.

According to Fowler, most wireless outdoor guidance systems have a lifespan of five years, after this 90% of the entire system needs to be removed and reinstalled. This is not only costly; the resulting waste is environmentally damaging. By contrast, the ODE is highly accurate, installed once and environmentally responsible.

To make the new sensor affordable to businesses of all sizes, the ODE comes in two configurations. The first version comprises a fish-eye camera sensor that can be used to monitor 100 spaces or more depending on the layout of the parking lot.

“This option is ideal for rooftop and outdoor lots where the owner has previously used zone counting or wireless sensors.” said Fowler. “The sensors can be easily installed on existing outdoor light fittings or custom designed poles.”

The second version offers the fish-eye camera sensor with additional LPR functionality. The ODE has the ability to zoom in and capture high-definition images of vehicle license plates in natural light. This makes it a perfect rooftop pairing to INDECT’s UPSOLUT camera-based system or it can be used as a stand-alone option for outdoor lots.

The LPR capability allows business owners to access all the benefits of an INDECT camera-based parking guidance system such as vehicle location, premium parking and black/white lists, that were previously only available in covered areas.

“INDECT is the only parking guidance company that provides an LPR option across 100% of all garages and open-air lots.” Fowler said.

City of Round Rock installs INDECT’s superior parking guidance system as part of their downtown revitalization project and smart city vision

April 10, 2019

City of Round Rock installs INDECT’s superior parking guidance system as part of their downtown revitalization project and smart city vision.

ROUND ROCK, TX (April 10, 2019) INDECT USA announces the installation of their ultrasonic parking guidance system at the City of Round Rock in Texas.

Following the successful installation of an INDECT parking guidance system in the Allen R Baca Center Garage last summer, Parking Guidance Systems LLC (PGS) are set to complete their second installation of INDECT equipment in the City Hall Garage by the end of May.

“The INDECT single-space parking guidance system is one of our most popular products,” said Derek Frantz, Head of Business Development at PGS. “We recommend it for busy garages because of its high level of accuracy, robust construction and the option of using sensors with extended LED lights in high ceiling areas.”

The City Hall parking garage is very narrow and hard to navigate. Previously when the garage was full, people would often find themselves stuck on the top level with no room to turn around, making it very hard to get out.  Now, drivers are able to see the number of available spaces clearly displayed on a matrix sign at the garage entrance then simply follow the internal signs to locate the nearest spot.

“This should eliminate the traffic jams caused by overfilling as well as improving people’s overall experience.” said Frantz.

Improving the city’s parking garages is part of the City of Round Rock’s downtown revitalization project, which aims to make the center more walkable and enjoyable with the recent addition of new plazas and fountains.

“Before installing the INDECT system, people would tell me that the city garages were always full and they could never find a space.” said Heath Douglas, Director of Information Technology at the City of Round Rock. “The feeling was that parking was in short supply.”

“Building new infrastructure is expensive and can cost upwards of $2 million.” said Douglas. “By putting sensors in our existing garages, we are able to collect and analyze the actual day-to-day data so we can make an informed decision as to whether a new garage is really needed.”

According to Douglas, the City of Round Rock has plans to extend the parking guidance throughout the city to the new library building scheduled for construction in 2022 and will be installing additional surface sensors on Main Street to monitor the 2-hour parking spaces next year.

“The city’s long-term plan is to have all the garages talking to each other so that when one garage is full, the information will be displayed on a matrix sign at the entrance and drivers will be redirected to the nearest garage with available spaces.” he said.

Once the garages and on-street parking are all interconnected, the city of Round Rock plans to position additional matrix signs around the city to inform the community of upcoming events, provide game information, display emergency announcements and advise of changes to parking availability.  They also plan to offer a frictionless parking app that would show all the available parking in the city.

A smart city vision starts with good technology.  When searching for a parking guidance system, the City of Round Rock wanted to make sure that the product they chose was reliable and underpinned by solid technology that would continue to be of value as the city grew.

“We are really pleased with the INDECT system. The technology has been rock-solid.” said Douglas.  “The system has stood up to our crazy weather extremes and there have been no issues whatsoever.”

“The City of Round Rock is a progressive and innovative city with a long-term vision of seamlessly integrating technology into everyday life,” said Derek Frantz. “We are excited to be involved in setting the ground work for a future smart city.”

Not just for large parking garages, INDECT completely transforms the parking experience at Carmel Valley’s only subterranean garage in The Merge CV

April 03, 2019

Not just for large parking garages, INDECT completely transforms the parking experience at Carmel Valley’s only subterranean garage in The Merge CV

San Diego, CA (March 3, 2019) INDECT USA announces the successful installation of their ultrasonic parking guidance system at San Diego’s newly developed urban community, The Merge CV.

Despite having only 60 spaces, the Merge’s small underground garage is often filled to capacity, especially on Thursday and Friday evenings as visitors flock to sample local wines, enjoy a good coffee or savor a delicious meal.

“People tend to think that parking guidance is just for big businesses but often it is the small, boutique garage where you can really see the difference,” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA.

The Merge garage is one of the only subterranean parking garage in Carmel Valley. To enter the garage, visitors need to drive down a steep ramp and make a couple of tight right-hand turns. There is only one way in, one way out and no room to turn around.

“The client was concerned that the garage was over-filling during peak periods, creating a dangerous blockage as drivers struggled to reverse out.” said Fowler. “We recommended our ultrasonic system with a light and sensor above every space, and a large monument sign to be placed at the entry to show the number of vacancies.”

The monument sign was custom designed to suit The Merge’s aesthetics with bespoke colors, geometric shapes and a specific font. The digits are large and easily readable from a distance.

“Prior to having the parking guidance installed, we had been valet parking cars on Thursday and Friday evenings to avoid the inevitable traffic jam. Now with the new sign, people know exactly how many spaces are available before entering the garage. It’s made a huge difference.” said Darren Levitt, Vice President of Sea Breeze Properties.

Typically, when people look for parking in Carmel Valley, they have the option of an open-air lot or an above ground parking structure. The idea of driving down a ramp into a dark garage is relatively new and can be a little intimidating.

“We wanted to encourage people to enter the garage and feel confident that they would find a space. The system and the sign are doing just that” said Levitt.

According to Levitt, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. “People love the sign and the lights. They say it’s like Vegas in there!” he laughed.

Data collected from the INDECT reporting software shows that not only has the number of entries and daily turnover increased, the average occupancy rate has tripled from 30% to 90% since the installation of the sign.

“The INDECT team were extremely easy to work with and very responsive. The system was installed in just five days and that good-old southern hospitality made the entire experience a pleasant one.” said Levitt.

“For anyone looking for a parking guidance system, I would certainly recommend INDECT.” he said.

Growing demand for parking guidance stimulates INDECT USA to open a new office in Denver, Colorado

Denver, CO –  INDECT USA today announces the opening of their new office in Denver, Colorado.

The new Colorado office will serve as a technology and sales hub, enabling INDECT to better meet the growing demand for parking guidance across the country.

“When we opened our first office in Texas back in 2013, parking guidance was a relatively new concept in America.” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA. “Since then we have installed over 150 systems in 16 states with 13 currently under construction and a further 13 under contract.”

“The demand for parking guidance has shot through the roof.” said Fowler “In the beginning it was mainly airports and shopping centers but now you can find our systems everywhere.”

“Hospitals, casinos, city centers, colleges, universities, offices, theme parks, lifestyle centers, supermarkets, gas stations, entertainment precincts, retail and residential complexes, hotels, resorts, loading docks and even government departments. Now that people understand the benefits, everyone wants in on the act.” he said.

Along with the new office, the INDECT team has also been expanding with a number of new technical positions already filled this year and additional people being added in both administration and technical roles in the coming months.

“We are expanding to meet the increasing market demands” said Fowler. “Denver and Dallas both have excellent hub airports allowing speedy logistical access to service the US market”.

INDECT now has two complete warehouses to allow the rapid deployment of new systems as well as the timely delivery of any spare parts for service.

INDECT is the #1 choice for parking guidance systems in casinos across the USA

March 17, 2019

INDECT is the #1 choice for parking guidance systems in casinos across the USA

BOSTON, MA – INDECT has successfully installed their world-class parking guidance system in 17 major casinos/resorts across the USA with another currently under construction and a further casino to begin work mid-year.

INDECT’s dominance of the casino segment can be attributed to three main factors, the quality of their products, the ease of installation and their proven record for accuracy and reliability.

Nowhere is this more apparent than on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada where there are currently 15 casinos on the Las Vegas Strip with an INDECT parking guidance system.

“We like to say that everyone’s a winner with an INDECT parking guidance system.” laughs Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA. “It sounds cheesy but it’s true. The players are happy because they can find a space and the owners are happy because the garage is more efficient.”

Casino garages are nearly always operating at capacity, regardless of the time of day or night. This can make finding a parking spot a long and frustrating experience. An INDECT parking guidance system easily directs drivers to the nearest available space by guiding them through the garage and assisting them to make an informed choice at each decision point.

“We use hyper bright LEDs in our sensors and wayfinding signs to ensure clear visibility even from long distances. Each sign shows the number of available spaces and where these spaces are located. The signs can also be used to direct drivers with special needs to premium spaces that are closer to the entrance and elevators.” said Fowler.

“Our accuracy and reliability are unmatched in the market. It’s one of the main reasons we get so much repeat business. Once the system is up and running there is not much more the casino needs to do except sit back and enjoy the positive comments.” he said.

In addition to their regular parking guidance signs and sensors, INDECT also offer custom-designed matrix signs as an additional feature. These signs can be placed at the entrance/exit to a garage, near the elevators on each level or anywhere additional information is needed.

“Our matrix signs are becoming quite popular. They can be as simple or as complex as the client desires, capable of displaying anything from parking directions to emergency and event information. This makes them extremely useful for casinos offering multiple live shows and performances.” said Fowler.

Most casino parking garages are large, multi-level structures that accommodate thousands of vehicles every day.  Parking can be tricky to say the least. Installing a parking guidance system makes the whole process quicker and easier, allowing people to get to their destination relaxed and ready to enjoy themselves.

So, while we can’t guarantee a windfall when you next decide to try your luck at the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, you can bet your bottom dollar there’ll be a parking space waiting just for you. From Mandalay Bay at one end to the Encore Resort at the other, INDECT has taken the gambling out of the parking garage and put it back in the casino where it belongs.

The Corners of Brookfield installs custom-designed INDECT parking guidance system

February 27, 2019

The Corners of Brookfield installs custom-designed INDECT parking guidance system

Brookfield, WI (February 27, 2019) INDECT USA announces the latest installation of their intelligent parking guidance system at The Corners of Brookfield in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

The new parking guidance system is part of the town’s $7 million upgrade and includes custom designed wayfinding signs with extra-large digits that can be easily seen from long distances.

“The parking structure at The Corners of Brookfield differs from standard garages as it has unusually high ceilings.” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA. “This meant that the signs had to be hung much higher than normal.”

“The client was concerned that this would affect visibility so we worked with the signage team at Gensler to create custom signs with 10.5-inch LED digits that are double the standard size normally used in parking guidance.” said Fowler.

“They are so big you can see them clearly from any position in the garage.” he said.

According to Fowler, each sensor has also been fitted with an extended LED indicator to help drivers easily identify vacant spaces as they enter each aisle.

“One of the benefits of the INDECT system is the ability to easily modify the brightness of the signs and space indicators according to the ambient light conditions of the parking garage. They can be brightened or dimmed at any time, in any section on any level independently of each other. This gives our clients complete control over the appearance of their system.” he said.

An additional 34 high-definition matrix signs have been installed at numerous locations around the site to display changing information and advertising material.

The installation was successfully managed by experienced distributor Parking Guidance Systems, LLC.
