11 April 2016 – Intertraffic Amsterdam concludes 23rd edition on an all time high
Content programme and networking opportunities ruled the show floor

Intertraffic Amsterdam 2016, the world’s leading trade event for infrastructure, traffic management, smart mobility, safety and parking ended last week on an all time high as exhibitors and visitors alike agreed it was one of the best events of its kind ever staged. The variety of companies, presentations from world-leading authorities, ground-breaking innovations and record numbers through the doors all combined to create an event unsurpassed in its reach and scope. The Intertraffic content and network programme was exceptionally well received, meeting the ever increasing needs for knowledge exchange and learning opportunities. Intertraffic also played host to the 100 millionth visitor to the RAI Amsterdam venue – an occasion that was celebrated by a festive welcoming reception. Intertraffic Amsterdam is organised by RAI Amsterdam and took place from 5 to 8 April.

Positive energy and great vibe
Joyce de Winter, Product Manager Intertraffic of RAI Amsterdam is clearly proud with the results of Intertraffic Amsterdam 2016. “Close to 800 companies from 47 countries exhibited, and a record grand total of 30,104 visitors from 134 countries worldwide were in attendance, resulting in nearly 450,000 business encounters. You could feel the positive energy all around, there was just a great vibe. We wanted to take our content programme to the next level and we more than met our own objectives. 4,700 participants took part in our knowledge programme overall of which 3,000 attended sessions in the Smart Mobility Theatre, which is almost double the number compared to 2014. The InnovationLAB presentations attracted 1,300 interested visitors. The international share of attendees has once again increased. This time a considerable 74% came from outside the Netherlands, with Asia and the Americas showing significant growth. The number of companies represented by visitors has gone up by nearly 6% as well. For the 2018 event we are expanding with a new hall, which is currently being built. This will be the new area for Smart Mobility, so that segment of the show will be even bigger next time. The business opportunities offered by Intertraffic speak volumes. In 2014 we were pleased with the onsite rebookings, but now we are looking at almost double those figures with 60% of the floor already rebooked for 2018.” A full visitor profile report will be published in May.

A lot of new business
Many exhibitors were keen to share their views on Intertraffic. Miles Boyd, commercial manager at first time exhibitor Hill & Smith from the UK, commented, “We’ve been very excited by this exhibition, it has reminded us how good exhibitions can be. We’re looking forward to it again in two year’s time.” Danny Longval, Vice President Worldwide Sales at Lumenera, Canada added “We have been very excited about this show. It really exceeded expectations. If anything, what I might do differently next time is bring more staff! The level of interest was so huge – we had people lining up, and I was busy and my colleagues were busy and I didn’t want to miss someone!” Marc Rummeny, Sales Manager with RTB from Germany summarized “Intertraffic has been a really great show – I’m lucky I still have my voice because I’ve done so much talking! The quality of the contacts was great, we saw many of our existing customers but also did a lot of new business, too. Obviously we will be here next time – I’m already looking forward to it!”

Intertraffic Innovation Award
The overall winner – out of a total of 91 entries – of the prestigious Intertraffic Innovation Awards was the InVipo software product, developed by CROSS Zlin. The platform is beautiful in its simplicity – one web-based interface to monitor and control all ITS in a city, compatible not only with CROSS products but with any traffic management equipment that produces data. “We are interested in making cities smarter. We think that data from cities should be open for all businesses, as it can be used to make people’s lives better,” says Lukas Duffek, CEO of CROSS Zlin Incinity. “We didn’t expect to win, but we are very happy that we did. The InVipo platform is lightweight and open and gives us the power to be very fast.”

RingGo Wins Europe’s Innovation Award for Parking at Intertraffic

April 06, 2016

RingGo Wins Europe’s Innovation Award for Parking at Intertraffic

Today (5 April) at Intertraffic, the world’s largest B2B traffic exhibition, the Parking Category Award for Innovation was won by RingGo, the UK’s leading cashless parking solution.

The award has been made for RingGo’s ‘Parking Prediction’ function which helps motorists find parking in central London and across the UK. When planning a journey, the driver uses the RingGo app to find their desired destination. They then select their preferred parking spot from coloured RingGo pins on the map – the traffic light red-amber-green system indicating the likelihood of spaces being available in the local area.

The service uses a unique algorithm developed by parent company Park Mobile’s in-house team of developers. “Big data” analyses calculate the likely proportion of free space, linking historical usage with a real-time data feed provided by parking sensors or RingGo’s ongoing usage. This information is offered back dynamically to the motorist as part of an ever-changing map.

RingGo’s solution offers an extremely cost-effective alternative to bay sensor parking, a technology which has been trialled by some London Boroughs. Whereas bay sensors currently cost about £200 per unit (plus the costs of installation and maintenance), the RingGo estimate of parking availability is offered to drivers and operators free of charge.

RingGo’s Commercial Director, Harry Clarke, says of the win, “We always try to put the motorist first in what we do, so we’re very pleased to be recognised for this customer-focused innovation. Clever use of real-time data directs drivers to find parking quickly and easily. And it just shows that you don’t need to spend thousands on hardware to help people get on with their lives.”

General Manager for the Parkmobile Group, Marius Koerselman, concurs, “The team in Basingstoke is well known within Parkmobile for its new ideas and tech development skills. Now this talent has been appreciated on the world stage with this Award. I couldn’t be more proud!”

New Smart Parking by Libelium includes Double Radio with LoRaWAN and Sigfox

New Smart Parking by Libelium includes Double Radio with LoRaWAN and Sigfox

New surface parking device -with LoRaWAN and Sigfox- features smaller size, higher accuracy and faster time of detection facilitating lower installation costs

Amsterdam, 5 April 2016

Today at Intertraffic, Libelium has presented the new version of Waspmote Plug&Sense! Smart Parking, the solution for Smart Cities that allows citizens to detect available parking spots.

The new device is easier and cheaper to deploy as it is mounted on the road surface. Unlike most market versions, it does not need to dig a hole in the ground for installation reducing installation time from 30 to 5 minutes and allowing to be replaced by another unit in case of maintenance in just 10 minutes.

The new device has a smaller size -reduced over 50%-, higher accuracy and reliability, and faster time of detection. Besides, temperature does not affect the behavior of readings.

New sensor system is fully compatible with LPWAN radio technologies -LoRaWAN and Sigfox- to enable long range and low power consumption. It can be connected with both radios for the European 868 MHz band and for the 900-930 MHz band (US/Canada). One unique feature of the system is that it allows to use both radio technologies at the same time or change from one to another easily from the Cloud.

With the new sensor system, one base station can give service to thousands of devices around a range of several kilometers in urban environment. This fact provides lower costs of installation since the number of base stations can be dramatically reduced. Besides, the new sensor model has been optimized for really low-power operation, so the battery lifetime is extended up to 10 years easily.

The new parking node has been certified with the CE/FCC/IC marks and provides a robust software which works out-of-the-box. Developers do not need to programme the nodes but specify the values of key parameters in the firmware such as working cycle or night mode to be ready to work. Remote management and bidirectional communication allows to change several parameters of the nodes from the Cloud. This means that thousands of nodes can be reprogrammed just setting the right values from our web browser in the management platform.

With Smart Parking, Libelium global Smart Cities solution covers gas and noise pollution levels, water quality control and waste management.

Edeva: Actibump – A speed bump you actually like?

April 05, 2016

Actibump – A speed bump you actually like?

Speed affects the degree of injuries sustained from a collision and must be held at a reasonable level, especially in traffic situations involving vulnerable road users. The ideal speed securing equipment would remind speeding vehicles to slow down and let everyone else pass. Actibump does just that.

Actibump is an active, dynamic speed bump that creates a discomfort for speeding vehicles and stays level for everyone else. Speeding vehicles activate a hatch, integrated into the road surface. The hatch is lowered a few centimetres creating an inverted speed hump. Driving over the lowered hatch is an uncomfortable experience but in a level position it causes no discomfort.

Actibump is a Swedish invention, by the company Edeva, that has been in commission since 2010 in Linköping, Sweden. All installations are showing very good results on speeding and yielding behaviour.
Edeva is now setting its sights on the international market and has recently entertained visiting officials from the Czech Republic. This week we are visiting Norway and Intertraffic.

Come talk to David Eskilsson CEO of Edeva, Hans Åberg, Chairman of the board of Edeva, and Walter Foltin from Frogics at Intertraffic in the Via Traffic stand 04.207.

Urbiotica releases its new parking sensor: U-Spot 2.0 Long Range

Urbiotica will present the new version of its parking sensor U-Spot 2.0 Long Range which commercial version will be available from September 2016. The new parking sensor delivers a better user experience and even more reliability to Urbiotica’s solutions:

  • Simplify the design
  • Reduce cost and logistic of installation
  • Improve remote maintenance operations and cost
  • Increase the reliability of the whole system
  • Offer more flexibility to comply with sites constraints and client use cases

These new benefits, made possible thanks to a year of R+D developments, are the following:

  • More practical: new version of communication protocol U-Sense Long Range (-50% of network devices)

Implemented in network devices U-Flag and U-Box as well as U-Spot 2.0, the new communication protocol U-Sense Long Range will have a great impact on distance design (up to 4 times the previous ones) and hence on the number of network devices (up to -80% of devices, -50% in average). It will also bring much more design flexibility, offering installation sites inaccessible before.

  • More lifetime: energy harvesting innovations to extend device useful lifetime 2 years more (12 years)

Thanks to a new battery incorporated and energy harvesting improvements, regarding supply system and firmware optimization, the useful lifetime of U-Spot 2.0 in default mode reach 12 years, confirming its nº 1 position on the smart parking sensors market.

  • More flexible: configuration options available remotely for measurement frequency.

4 options can be configured for each parameter of measurement frequency and “alive” message. With the possibility of configuring the measurement frequency down to 3s, the U-Spot 2.0 confirms its position of “best-in-class” on the market. Very useful for example in the context of heavy rotations cases with display panels or even to refine rotation statistics, it will be configurable remotely and each sensor set-up can be recovered on demand.

  • More reliable: as for each new version of U-Spot, design and firmware have been optimized to increase both sensor and global system reliability, improving in particular the management of communication errors and resistance to harsh temperature and humidity conditions

Urbiotica will present its new sensor in the next edition of Intertraffic that will be celebrated in Amsterdam from 5 to 8 April. Intertraffic: EL. 305 ELICIUM Hall

AParkAssistLogo

Park Assist is proud to announce that our M4 Smart-Sensor System has been nominated for the Intertraffic Innovation Awards 2016! Below are further details about our nomination. To view the full press release from Intertraffic, please click here.

Innovation and excellence will be rewarded at the world’s largest trade fair for the traffic infrastructure, management, safety, parking and smart mobility sectors (5-8 April 2016, RAI Amsterdam), when the winners of the 2016 Intertraffic Innovation Awards will be announced. An international jury has scrutinized 91 potential candidates and after careful analysis and intense consideration has shortlisted 15 final entries. Acknowledging Intertraffic’s traditional remit, awards will be presented in five categories – Infrastructure, Traffic Management, Safety, Parking, and Smart Mobility. One of these five winners will then be chosen as the overall winner of the 2016 Intertraffic Innovation Award. The Awards will be presented on 5 April during the opening ceremony of Intertraffic Amsterdam 2016.

Shortlisted companies in the category Parking:

► Park Assist LLC (USA) – M4 Smart-Sensor System – Stand 03.203

A Park Assist camera based M4 smart-sensor system puts processing intelligence right at the parking-space level. Each individual sensor has the ability to stream surveillance video to a video management system, while also sending rich data for our integrated License Plate Recognition (LPR) and occupancy tracking.

► HR Groep B.V. (The Netherlands) – MB multilayer parking – Stand 01.409

The multilayer bike parking system varies from all existing systems. Major differences are that the bike will stay in a horizontal position from the floor until it is placed into his holder in the second layer, so it is easy to use for everybody. Height of the system is lower than the existing parking stands due to a unique parking system were bikes can be parked under an angle on the first.

► Parkmobile Group (The Netherlands) – RingGo – Stand 02.105

RingGo, a cashless parking solution and part of the Parkmobile Group, enables motorists to check parking space availability in central London, directly navigate towards and pay for the available space. The product uses a unique algorithm that links anonymous historical parking data with real-time sensor information from the parking bays. So search, navigate and pay.

Jury member Peter Martens shares his opinion on the Parking entries:
“Discussions about parking move more and more from operations to accessibility of urban areas and customer information. Proper parking management and customer information help cities to reduce car traffic in central areas and to achieve environmental targets while keeping the city alive. Many entries at Intertraffic are supportive in those policies by gathering access information (i.e. routing and pricing) and actual availability of parking facilities and transfer those into guidance information to enable visitors to make the best choice for their specific visits.”

The 2016 jury consists of:

Dr. Peter van der Knaap (Chairman of the Jury) – Managing Director of SWOV – Institute for Road Safety Research, The Netherlands

Colin Sowman – Editor, ITS International, Route One Publishing Ltd, United Kingdom
