LAZ Becomes an Accredited Parking Organization

International designation recognizes national and international standards for parking management and operations, customer service, professional development, safety, and security.

Hartford, CT –  LAZ Parking recently earned status as an Accredited Parking Organization (APO), joining an elite class of the top organizations in the industry. APO is a designation for organizations that recognizes best practices in responsible parking management and operations, customer service, professional development, sustainability and access management, safety, data security and risk management, and more.

“It’s quite an achievement, which follows a lengthy and arduous review process,” explained Shawn Conrad, CAE, CEO of the International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI), the organization that sets the standards for APO Accreditation and Accreditation with Distinction.  The APO program was established to set industry standards that develop, ensure, and support a high level of professionalism and competency in parking, transportation, and mobility management.

To earn the APO Accreditation, an organization must demonstrate its commitment to ongoing evaluation and improvement through the implementation of industry best practices. Applicant organizations work with third-party reviewers to present evidence of accomplishment of more than 100 criteria in 14 categories, in addition to 25 required criteria.  Accreditation requires that at least one facility is evaluated and meets the criteria as established by the APO Board of Directors.

“Parking at an accredited facility or operation assures the public that the organization adheres to a strict code of ethics and meets national and internationally endorsed standards for professionalism, accountability, responsibility, and performance,” Conrad said.

“LAZ is so very proud to have earned this distinction,” said Alan Lazowski, Chairman, CEO, and founder of LAZ Parking. “IPMI accreditation is an acknowledgement of our excellence in customer service, operations, employee development and a multitude of other areas. It also validates all the hard work each and every member of the LAZ team does day in and day out to achieve those results.”

Los Angeles World Airports and LAZ Parking Win International Parking & Mobility Institute Award of Excellence for the LAX-it Taxi and Pickup Service Ride App

2021 IPMI Awards of Excellence winners exemplify creativity, forward-thinking, and commitment to mobility and sustainability.

Los Angeles, CA., November 22, 2021Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and LAZ Parking have been recognized by the International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI) with a 2021 Award of Excellence for the LAX-it Taxi and Pickup Service Ride App. LAX-it received the award for Innovation in a Mobility, Transportation, or Parking Program, placing the service among the industry’s top programs.

Over the last decade, traffic congestion on the roadways and front curbs of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has grown dramatically due to the popularity of Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) like Uber and Lyft, as well as steady growth in air passengers. Projections showed vehicular traffic within the Central Terminal Area (CTA) would become increasingly dense without an innovative mitigation while the airport’s modernization built the long-term solutions including an Automated People Mover train. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) implemented a visionary solution to this problem by moving TNCs and taxis from the CTA and having them pick up customers at an adjacent lot designed for this purpose.

“LAX-it” (pronounced “LA Exit”) is a ground-breaking service that removes tens of thousands of vehicles per day from the CTA’s traffic congestion and provides a fleet of shuttle buses to transport passengers from the terminal to the pickup point, where their ride is waiting. When the time came to select an operating partner with the expertise, commitment, and flexibility to take on this ambitious new service LAWA selected LAZ Parking, a recognized innovation leader in the parking and mobility industry. Since assuming the management of LAX-it, LAZ has transported millions of passengers and, during peak operations, facilitated over 30,000 daily rideshare pickups.

IPMI Awards of Excellence showcase outstanding parking and transportation facilities and innovative parking, transportation, and mobility industry programs. Judges from every segment of the industry review entries and rank them according to a range of criteria.

“This year’s Awards of Excellence winners showcase creativity, innovation, sustainability, and a commitment to the future of transportation and mobility,” said IPMI CEO Shawn D. Conrad, CAE. “Their attention to excellence benefits both their operations and their local communities, and it’s an honor to recognize and celebrate these projects and organizations.”

“LAZ Parking is thrilled to share this recognition with LAWA and to be selected as their partner on the new LAX-it service,” added Alan Lazowski, Chairman and CEO of LAZ Parking. “We are humbled to yet again be recognized for our parking and logistics expertise and to be entrusted by LAWA to deliver a solution that better serves customers and provides a sustainable, cost-effective solution to the challenges facing the mobility, transportation, and parking industries.”

IPMI is the world’s largest and leading association for professionals and organizations in the parking and mobility industry. More details on this year’s award winners can be found in a special feature in Parking & Mobility magazine, as well as on IPMI’s website. They will be honored in-person at the 2021 IPMI Parking & Mobility Conference & Expo, Nov. 29 – Dec. 3, Tampa, Fla. The 2022 IPMI Awards of Excellence competition will open in January 2022. International Parking Institute Changes Name to International Parking & Mobility Institute

October 17, 2018

International Parking Institute Changes Name to

International Parking & Mobility Institute

New name reflects interconnectedness of parking, transportation, and mobility industries and expanded role of parking and parking professionals

(DENVER – October 17, 2018) The world’s largest association of parking professionals, formerly known as the International Parking Institute (IPI), has changed its name to the International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI). The change reflects the interconnected, choice-driven network that now encompasses parking, transportation, and mobility.

The decision was made by the Board of Directors at a meeting in Denver today.

As the results of IPI’s 2018 Emerging Trends in Parking survey revealed, there has been a major shift in the past decade that has blurred the distinctions between the industries. The explosive growth of ride-hailing/transportation network companies such as Uber and Lyft, car- and bike-sharing, and effective mass-transit systems, coupled with the growing consciousness of environmentally friendly choices and sustainability, have transformed the way we get around.

More than 90 percent of those surveyed feel that “parking and transportation or mobility professionals” is a more apt description of their jobs, which today encompass such tasks as curb management, alternative commuting methods, data collection, and much more.

“Our broadened name and new logo signifies changes in the industry and what is happening in the larger sphere, where mobility is emerging as a more inclusive term for the expanding role of parking professionals,” says IPMI CEO Shawn Conrad, CAE. “We feel the new name provides an umbrella that incorporates parking and mobility and thus will better serve our members by ensuring future opportunities for growth.”

IPMI’s monthly magazine, The Parking Professional, will be renamed Momentum beginning in January 2019. Some changes will be phased in. Although the organization’s current website and email addresses will continue to function for some time, the new internet address will be parking-mobility.org, and staff email addresses will change to the domain parking-mobility.org. Its current governance structure, staff, and contacts will remain the same.
