ParkMobile Launches Major Enhancements to the Popular ParkColumbus Mobile and Web Apps

Users of the ParkColumbus app will now be able to see open on-street parking spaces around the city

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 9, 2020  — ParkMobile, the leading provider of smart parking and mobility solutions in North America, announced today significant enhancements to the popular ParkColumbus mobile and web apps.  This update, powered by Smart Columbus, includes the innovative new “parking availability” feature displaying open parking spaces around the city and a new mobile web version of the app.

The new parking availability feature in the ParkColumbus mobile app displays pins on the map with colors to indicate the likelihood that a space is open. Green pins show that a space is likely available, while orange and red pins indicate a space is less likely to be available. This prediction is based on historical parking data, continuously updated by the city, to provide the most accurate estimate possible.

In addition to the on-street parking availability, the ParkColumbus program will also offer a mobile web version of the app, enabling a user to quickly pay for parking in a mobile web browser without having to download a full-featured app.

The Park Columbus app has been very successful since rolling out in December 2018. It is currently available in over 4500 parking spaces around the city. There have been almost 170,000 downloads of the app since launch and close to 1 million transactions. The app has a four-star rating in both the Apple and Google app stores.

To pay for parking using the ParkColumbus mobile or web app, a user simply enters the zone number posted on the stickers and signs around the space, chooses the duration, and touches the “start parking” button. The ParkColumbus app will send alerts when the parking session is about to expire so a user can extend time right from the app. The app can also be used to make parking reservations at venues around Columbus, including Nationwide Arena, Huntington Park, Express Live, and the Schottenstein Center.

Outside of the city, the ParkColumbus app can be used anywhere ParkMobile is accepted, including the Ohio cities of Dayton, Toledo, and Oxford, as well as several universities, like Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, Ohio University, The University of Toledo, and Miami University. Beyond the state of Ohio, the app can be used to pay for parking in over 400 cities across the U.S. including, Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and many more.

“The ParkColumbus app has been very popular since it launched in 2018,” says Robert Ferrin, Assistant Director for Parking Services with the City of Columbus. “These innovative new features take it to the next level, better managing congestion and providing a superior parking experience for our residents and visitors.”

“The City of Columbus continues to be on the cutting edge of innovation in the parking and mobility industry,” said Jon Ziglar, CEO of ParkMobile. “Our recent updates to the ParkColumbus app with the parking availability feature and new mobile web app experience, further reinforce Columbus’ reputation as a truly smart city.”

Passport’s open ecosystem approach to parking enables cities to offer a wide range of parking payment options through everyday mobile apps—rather than one designated application. Also partnering with Passport to leverage the company’s innovative Operating System to fuel its services is Papaya, a company that consolidates all your bills in one place and makes bill paying painless through an easy-to-use app. “Partnering with Passport gives us the ability to exponentially simplify payments for parking by leveraging innovative mobile technologies,” says Patrick Kann, CEO of Papaya. “From computer vision to integrated payment fulfillment, we have developed a number of technologies that make payments in tough verticals such as healthcare, parking, citations, taxes, financial services, and healthcare as simple as taking a photo and clicking a button. We are honored to partner with Passport in advancing our mission around frictionless payments.”

Devin Patel, Vice President of Business Development, is proud to announce these partnerships and provide more app developers with the ability to leverage Passport’s parking payment technology and access to over 1,000 cities in North America.  “Our open ecosystem approach and integration with third-party apps is firmly rooted in the belief of customer choice,” Devin says. “By offering more options to pay for parking through the Passport Operating System, we can help cities with compliance and revenue, and provide frictionless and convenient ways for people to move about cities.”

San Antonio introduces city’s first mobile pay parking solution, SAPark

Drivers can use SAPark app to pay at more than 2,500 parking spaces

San Antonio (June 4, 2019) — Beginning today, drivers in downtown San Antonio can use a new mobile app, SAPark, to pay for parking. The app is powered by Passport, the leading mobility management company, which provides solutions for parking, enforcement, permits, transit and tolling for more than 600 clients.

The SAPark app can be used for more than 2,500 on-street and off-street parking spaces in downtown San Antonio. Previously, drivers had to pay at a pay station and then display the ticket on their dashboards. With SAPark, the entire transaction is facilitated on a smartphone and does not require a physical ticket.

To use SAPark, drivers can download the app and create an account with payment information and easily start a parking session. In addition to paying for parking, users can monitor their parking sessions, extend sessions remotely and view parking history and receipts.

“Parking is often the first experience people have when they come downtown, and we recognize our role in ensuring it is a positive experience,” said John Jacks, center city development & operations director at the City of San Antonio. “SAPark will provide residents and visitors an easy and innovative way to pay for downtown parking.”

Passport was selected following the City of San Antonio’s competitive bidding process. Passport also provides mobility solutions for Austin, Corpus Christi, Baylor University, University of Texas at Arlington, and Sam Houston State University.

“SAPark is going to change the parking experience for residents and visitors in San Antonio,” said Curtis Morgan, Passport sales executive. “Instead of parking, walking to a pay station and then back to the car to display a ticket, drivers can easily start a parking session on their phones and get to their destinations quicker.”

Users can download the free SAPark app from the App Store and Google Play and manage their parking online at sapark.sanantonio.gov.
