National Parking Association’s 65th Annual Convention & Expo Kicks Off in Atlanta


Focusing on sales, service and parking transformation

 

Washington, DC (September 19, 2016)— The National Parking Association’s (NPA) 65th Annual Convention & Expo opens today at the Westin Peachtree Plaza and AmericasMart in Atlanta, Ga. This year, more than 1,300 participants and a sold-out exhibition represent record NPA Convention & Expo numbers.

 

 

The Convention features leading authorities on technology, transportation and business trends shaping the parking industry. This year’s conference focuses on sales, service and parking transformation, and attendees will learn specific strategies to improve the customer experience and company return on investment. Bijan Eghtedari, president, Citizens Lanier Holdings, serves as the 2016 NPA Convention chairperson.

 

In addition to education sessions, the NPA Convention & Expo offers numerous networking opportunities for parking professionals to get to know each other, share best practices and put deals in motion. The expo hall at AmericasMart opens Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Tuesday morning’s keynote address (Tues., Sept. 20, 9:30 a.m. ET) will cover Big Data: Connecting Cars, Parking & Transportation, featuring Bryan Mistele, co-founder, president & CEO of INRIX. Mistele’s background includes working with such brands as Microsoft and Ford, and he will address how transportation data and on-board automobile data and apps will transform the parking experience for both customers and parking operations.

2016 class of 40 Under 40 to engage in parking leadership development

 

 

Washington, DC (August 18, 2016)—The National Parking Association (NPA) has selected its 2016 40 Under 40 class of young professionals and up-and-coming leaders in the parking industry. The 40 chosen individuals will be inducted into the awards program at the NPA 2016 Convention & Exposition on September 20, 2016 in Atlanta, GA.

Washington, DC (April 22, 2016)—This Earth Day, the National Parking Association released the first edition of Greener Parking Case Studies. It is a curated publication that highlights innovative solutions for sustainable parking.

 

Each month, Parking Magazine highlights a green project, company or solution to help you learn how you can make your operations more sustainable. This publication gathers more than 30 of these columns into an easy-to-use reference.

It showcases the positive impact of green practices in the parking industry and provides case examples as you make important decisions for your business. The case studies provide both data and context to help generate ideas for how you can improve your own operations.

“The National Parking Association is dedicated to the idea that by adopting green practices, parking operations can become more efficient, increasing bottom line results,” said NPA President Christine Banning, MA, CAE. “Sustainable parking is not just good for the environment, but it’s good for business, as demonstrated in this publication.”

NPA Announces National Leaders of Parking Education Steering Committee
Parking Pros Collaborate to Build Extensive Professional Development Program

 

Washington, DC (April 18, 2016)—The National Parking Association (NPA) recently announced the formation of the NPA National Education Committee. The members of the NPA National Education Committee serve as subject advisors, training, human resources and matter experts on parking, transportation, technology and business. The NPA National Education Committee supports NPA’s education strategy and provides insight on topics important to the parking community, identifies knowledge gaps and steers the association’s professional development programming.

 

Since its inception, the Committee launched NPA’s first online certificate, focusing on human resources and is preparing to release the second on safety and security this spring. A third addressing emergency preparedness is in development for this summer. The Committee also played an integral role in planning the education program for the NPA 2016 Convention and Expo, being held September 19–22 in Atlanta, GA.

The committee is comprised of professionals from various sectors of the parking industry, holding myriad professional credentials. Each member, listed below, brings unique expertise and parking knowledge to the committee:

Washington, DC (March 3, 2016)—Bijan Eghtedari, president of Citizens Lanier Holdings, was named Chair of the Convention Program Planning Committee for NPA’s 2016 Convention & Expo taking place in Atlanta, Ga., September 19–22.

Bijan Eghtedari joined Lanier Parking Solutions as president in January 2015, bringing extensive experience in the parking industry. Eghtedari served for 12 years as CEO of Park One Holdings, which grew during his tenure from a small firm, to more than 150 properties and 1,500 employees in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama. Eghtedari attributes that success to his commitment to delivering excellent customer service in highly competitive markets and to developing deep-rooted ties to the community. Previously, Eghtedari was senior vice president at Central Parking for 14 years, overseeing several markets on the East Coast, including Atlanta.

“Bijan’s commitment to growing business through exceptional customer service makes him an ideal fit for this year’s NPA Convention and Expo, which focuses on sales, service and parking transformation,” said Christine Banning, CAE, NPA president. “His wealth of knowledge and experience will bring exceptional value to the Convention program and attendees.”

NPA Announces New Leadership of Prestigious Parking Consultants Council

Washington, DC (February 25, 2016)—The National Parking Association (NPA) inaugurated new leadership for its elite Parking Consultants Council (PCC) at last week’s PCC 2016 Annual Meeting in Tampa, Fla. The following parking professionals will serve on the executive team of the PCC in 2016 and 2017:

  • Chair: Jerry Marcus, president and owner, The Parking Advisory Group
  • Vice-Chair: John Purinton, P.E., SE, principal, Watry Design Inc.
  • Secretary: Adam Cochran, P.E., vice president, Kimley-Horn and Associates

 

Jerry Marcus formed The Parking Advisory Group in February of 2012 after spending 13 years as the executive director and practice leader for a nationally recognized multidiscipline design firm. Before that he spent more than 20 years in parking management, including Vice President and Director of Business Development for a national parking management firm.  In all, Jerry has been in the parking industry nearly 40 years. Mr. Marcus has authored numerous articles for parking and industry publications including: Parking, Parking Today, The Parking Professional, Stadia, Pan Stadia, InterTraffic World and Passenger Terminal World. In Addition, Jerry was the author of the Introduction to the Urban Land Institute’s Dimensions of Parking fifth addition as well as, the first chapter on the newly published Sustainability of Parking first addition, jointly by, The National Parking Association and International Parking Institute.  In his role of PCC Chair, Mr. Marcus represents the group on NPA’s Board of Directors.

John Purinton, P.E., SE, a principal for Watry Design, Inc., has been creating parking solutions for over 25 years. A licensed engineer in 8 states who is responsible for the design of over 125 parking projects, he leads the design build vertical for the firm. In addition to ensuring that each project’s structural solution effectively integrates with the parking layout and architectural design, John continues to investigate innovative structural solutions to our client’s problems. This is a vital role when considering the structural system usually accounts for 60 to 70% of the project construction cost. As an active member of the Parking Consultant’s Council, John contributed to several chapters of the latest edition of The Dimensions of Parking and has both written and spoken on design build delivery and the cost of structured parking. He is a California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo alumni with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering.
Adam Cochran, P.E. has served as a structural engineer with Kimley Horn and Associates for nearly 17 years. He currently serves as a vice president for the civil engineering firm. Mr. Cochran received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Clemson University. This is his second two-year term as secretary for the PCC.

National Parking Association Leads Certified Parking Professional (CPP) Workshop at Parking Industry Exhibition in Las Vegas

The courses will be offered in conjunction with Parking Today and the Parking Industry Expo Sunday, February 28–Tuesday, March 1 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

 

The in depth workshop series provides fundamental knowledge, skills and information on being a successful parking leader, and prepares attendees to receive their Certified Parking Professional (CPP) designation—the leading parking professional credential. National Parking Association Honors Roy Carter with Harwood Leadership & Legends Award

Chairman of Toledo Ticket Company and Former NPA Board Director

 

Washington, DC (February 4, 2016)— Yesterday, the National Parking Association (NPA) honored Roy Carter of The Toledo Ticket Company with the parking industry’s highest honor, the Brett Harwood Leadership & Legends Award. The award was presented to Carter at the NPA Winter Leadership Forum. This prestigious national honor recognizes lifelong leadership, excellence and integrity.

 

“The NPA Board of Directors selected Carter as the 2016 honoree for his industry advocacy, dedication to industry education, and focus on building networks among parking peers throughout the industry,” said NPA President Christine Banning, MA, CAE. Banning added, “Roy Carter has been a lifelong champion of the parking industry. His ability to rally the industry and build ongoing support for parking education, industry scholarships and support of the Parking Industry Institute are hallmarks of his leadership.”

 

Carter is a long-time member of NPA, having served on the board and as chair of the NPA Supplier Committee for more than 20 years. He was the first industry supplier to serve on the Executive Committee of the NPA Board of Directors. During his tenure on the Board, Carter was an advocate for parking industry education, networking and the value of building a strong and vibrant parking industry in all sectors.

 

His lifelong industry leadership, support and advocacy have helped advance the parking profession. He is a member of the Ohio Parking Association, where he served on the board, and of the Michigan Parking Association.

 

Carter joined The Toledo Ticket Co. in 1960 following his tour of duty with the United States Navy. In the 1970s, Carter became president of the firm. Today, he serves as Chairman and CEO alongside two of his sons, who operate the company.

 

About the Award: The Board of Directors of NPA established the Brett Harwood Leadership & Legends Award in 2013 to honor lifetime achievement in parking industry leadership. Carter is the third recipient of the award and was honored February 4th at the association’s Winter Leadership Forum.
