Nortech: ANPR LUMO IS A FLEXIBLE AND RELIABLE SOLUTION FOR ALL SECURE CAR PARKS

No one enjoys parking, but it is a necessary step in a journey to an end destination. To make the process easier, access control specialists Nortech suggest that secure sites like staff car parks and parking areas in luxury apartment blocks, holiday parks and caravan sites can benefit from Nedap’s latest Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Lumo system.

The Lumo combines ANPR and access control in one single unit to create an easy to install standalone system that has the option to easily configure time-based access control lists via the ANPR Lumo Web interface. Generating an approved number plate list is also simple whether it is for permanent residents or staff as the ANPR Lumo can be used to grant temporary access to controlled areas for visitors, holiday makers and touring caravans.

Providing 24-hour access to secure sites or car parks is automated by entering the relevant vehicle’s number plate into the system. When pre-approved vehicles turn up, the barrier will open allowing free flowing vehicle access in and out of any secure site and access can equally be removed or revoked at any time using the ANPR Lumo’s web interface.

ANPR systems have been around for a number of years and can deliver substantial benefits to secure site operators and consumers alike. Its technology was created to help end queuing at barriers and is an ideal standalone solution for busy sites which require secure vehicle access.

The ANPR Lumo is an all-in-one licence plate camera, including embedded software, analyser and IR illuminator. With a range of action of 2 to 10 metres, the advanced camera ensures a smooth recognition of vehicles.

Easy to install with a mounting bracket included as standard, the camera boasts user-friendly configuration, is equipped with a REST API for easy integration and supports the industry-standard communication interfaces: RS485, Wiegand and Ethernet.

For more information on the ANPR Lumo, visit https://youtu.be/gFYvT8t4hw4

The ANPR Lumo is manufactured by Nedap Identification Systems but is supplied and supported in the UK by people and vehicle access control specialist Nortech. Nortech has supplied products and solutions to the security industry for over 25 years as an independent British company. NORTECH PROUD TO SUPPORT TEEN INVENTOR’S ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

NORTECH PROUD TO SUPPORT TEEN INVENTOR’S

ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

People and vehicle access control specialist Nortech is heading into the end of the year on a high, with complying with the latest ISO 9001 standard, a busy year at exhibitions and getting involved with a local teen pioneer among its 2019 highlights.

Nortech’s Managing Director Steve Blackler commented, “We are very pleased with how the company has progressed this year. We continue to grow and meet new standards and were also delighted to meet with Freddie Howells, a young inventor from nearby Usk over the summer to support him in his work to create a facial recognition door lock for an elderly relative with dementia.”

After appearing in the news earlier in the year, Freddie was approached by Nortech to help him further develop his award-nominated home monitoring system. Freddie was invited to Nortech to discuss his product with the team and also received a tour of the site as well as some training to help him to expand his access control knowledge.

When Freddie heard his 88-year-old great aunt Pat who has dementia was struggling with potentially letting strangers into her home, he wanted to do something, so went on to invent something that would help her and others when home alone. Freddie developed a facial recognition, door entry and home monitoring system, the Door Pi Plus, where a motion sensor attached to the individual’s front door detects motion and it triggers the camera to take a picture of the visitor.

The image is checked against a database of ‘known’ faces and if the person is recognised they are able to scan their ID tag for two factor authentication. If the face and ID match, the door is opened. If the face and ID are not recognised the visitor is prompted to call a number to gain access.

Following his visit to Nortech, Freddie has been offered ongoing support by the team to assist him in finalising his invention so it continues to help his great aunt and others in the future.

For more on Freddie’s story, visit https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/usk-dementia-invention-freddie-howells-16481624

After taking on a number of apprentices in the last year, September has seen the intake progress into college programmes whilst still gaining experience alongside the Nortech technical team. The company’s commitment to growth and the community has played a big part in its success and enabled it to expand in other areas.

To further help its installers, Nortech is developing a tech support area for its current website to ensure engineers can access the material they need easily when installing Nortech products. Work on the website has led to more traffic and takes on board the suggestions made by those who frequently work with Nortech, who are then likely to also look at other areas of the website.

Among the news items regularly posted on its website and social media are references to Nortech’s presence at several shows this year and its pride in making the shortlist for a number of industry awards. Alongside the roadshows the company frequently attends, Nortech has also attended Parkex, Elevate and the LEGIC conference over the last few months and is constantly further developing its existing product range to satisfy industry demands.

Nortech has supplied products and solutions to the security industry for over 25 years as an independent British company. The company uses extensive experience and expertise to create new security products to fit their clients’ needs and designs everything with the customer in mind.

Nortech: UPASS READER OFFERS COST-EFFECTIVE

ACCESS CONTROL FOR PARKING APPLICATIONS

People and vehicle access control specialist Nortech offers a number of products within the Nedap productrange that use vehicle tagging to identify individual vehicles while they are moving through a monitoring point.

This includes the uPASS Reach reader, which offers long-range vehicle identification up to 5 metres using the latest UHF technology.

With consistent reading up to 5 metres and adjustable onsite reading as just two of the benefits of the system, the uPASS Reach has an elegant slim design, LED and audible read indication and is encased in weatherproof housing. It also operates with passive UHF tags, self-adhesive windscreen tags and hand-held tags with dual-technology options.

WhentheuPASS Reach reader is installed (maximum height two metres) next to an automatic gate or barrier,long-range passive UHF tags are identified at a distance of up to 5 metres as soon as they are visible in direct line of sight of the reader.

The reader output allows the access control system to open the gate/barrier when an authorised vehicle arrives without the need for the driver to present a card or badge, and the built-in high intensity LED provides the user visual feedback that the tag has been read. UHF tags are also both battery and maintenance-free.

To work alongside the uPASS Reach, Nedap has designed four different UHF tags to suit all environments. The UHF Windshield Tag is a passive UHF transponder and offers long range identification up to 5 metres when installed inside non metallised windscreens. This provides cost-effective long range vehicle identification for access control applications and is available as a standard peel off version or as a tamperproof version for additional security.

Where vehicle windscreens are fully metallised, Nedap offers a passive UHF Exterior Tag which can be easily fitted onto non-metallic / plastic parts of the vehicle such as the headlights. For added security, the UHF Exterior Tag is a tamper resistant, transparent, adhesive tag.  It will show visual proof of removal and is extremely difficult to remove, intact and functional. The chip inside is also protected against harmful UV rays.

The Nedap UHF Heavy Duty tag is a passive UHF transponder which again offers long-range identification up to 5 metres with the uPASS Reach. However, this tag features a rugged design for long term use in outdoor and industrial environments. The UHF Heavy Duty Tag is a cost-effective solution for installations where the tag needs to be mounted onto the exterior of the vehicle and can also be cable tied or bolted onto bicycles, forklifts and many other industrial devices.

Finally, the UHF ISO Combi Card is a card featured with long range UHF tag and proximity or smartcard technology. Used for both people and vehicle access, it enables the use of one card for both vehicle and building access applications. Available with a range of formats such as Mifare, Legic and HID.

Nortech: FEEMASTER SMART CONSOLE MAKES CONTROLLING

ACCESS AFFORDABLE AND CONVENIENT

The FeeMaster Smart Consolefrom people and vehicle access control specialist Nortech provides a simple and cost-effective way of managing access to car parks and facilities for vehicles and pedestrians.

All the access control data is encoded onto a Mifare card using the FeeMaster Smart Console. As a standalone system, there is no wiring between the access control point and the console, making it easy and cost effective to install.

Part of the popular FeeMaster range, the FeeMaster Smart attendant console is a compact, elegant and easy-to-install device that reads barcode tickets issued at an entry station, calculates the fees payable based on pre-programmed tariff details, and encodes reusable Mifare access control cards with validity data. If necessary, the console can print customer receipts and/or barcode exit tokens. It is also able to control a till drawer and can optionally provide a relay output signal which can be used by third equipment i.e. barrier control whenever a card has been encoded or an exit ticket printed.

The FeeMaster Smart time-based parking management system is designed to provide information about the initial arrival time of each visitor and uses cards to strictly control customers’ access rights to car parks and facilities as well as the validity period.

Popular applications that have used the FeeMaster attendant’s console to control visitor access include Bristol Aquarium and Edinburgh Castle, where an easy to install and operate and an automatic fee calculation system with tariff and grace period settings included was required.

Bristol Aquarium required a cost-effective and efficient product that would not only save money but would also make the constant stream of visitors easy to monitor. The barcode reader connects to a barrier/turnstile/gate at each site and opens once a valid barcode has been scanned by a visitor using easy to programme modes of operation. The simple to use design makes the console ideal for reducing queues and keeping the flow of people moving during busy periods, is extremely versatile and can simultaneously support several methods of revenue generation.

Edinburgh Castle has been benefiting from the FeeMaster system for a number of years, using it to control and manage the strict parking at its site. The console allows the staff to control any misuse of the car park and ensures that there are enough parking spaces without the need for expensive cabling or disruption.

Nortech has supplied products and solutions to the security industry for over 25 years as an independent British company. The company uses extensive experience and expertise to create new security products to fit their clients’ needs and designs everything with the customer in mind.

NORTECH’S NEW FLAGSHIP BOXED DETECTOR RANGE

MAKES ITS DEBUT AT PARKEX 2019

A significant advance in parking detection technology is set for April 2019. The driving force behind this is the latest offering of Inductive Loop Parking Detectors from Nortech International – The 8 Series.

Nortech’s new flagship boxed detector range boasts both intuitive and innovative detection technology packaged in a compact, slimline housing – which bucks the trend of its predecessors. The 8 Series range of single and dual channel detectors is set to cater to market demand for detectors that facilitate “plug-and-play” installation whilst still allowing full site configuration using the state-of-the-art DU800 diagnostics device and mobile app for the more tech savvy.

The sleek new housing is a result of a conscious move away from the traditional 11-pin relay base to a slimline DIN Rail mount housing which exposes more physical connection options. The 8 Series detectors incorporate Nortech’s cutting-edge modular design, allowing for the expansion of channels, outputs and communication interfaces via the ingenious expansion port.

Installation, configuration and diagnostics have been transformed by the introduction of the 8 Series range. The conventional DIP switches have been replaced by the DU800 diagnostic device which interfaces with the detector via a USB-type port on the front of the detector. The DU800 provides wireless communication – via a WLAN link – facilitating detector configuration and installation verification.

A mobile app is available for download on any Android or iOS device which presents configuration and diagnostic information in an intuitive, easy-to-read format. Any change in the configuration parameters made within the app will update the settings on the detector, resulting in a completely wireless configuration solution.  The wireless interface also allows for over-the-air firmware upgrades at the click of a button.

The combination of sleek aesthetics and innovative technology renders the 8 Series the most intuitive and powerful parking detector yet.

NORTECH’S BOOSTER TAGS ARE A SEAMLESS SOLUTION FOR VEHICLE AND DRIVER ACCESS IDENTIFICATION

February 11, 2019

NORTECH’S BOOSTER TAGS ARE A SEAMLESS SOLUTION FOR

VEHICLE AND DRIVER ACCESS IDENTIFICATION

People and vehicle access control specialist Nortech is now offering long-range vehicle and driver identification tags to grant seamless access to approaching vehicles.

Designed to accompany the popular TRANSIT reader range from Nedap, the tags are ideal for use in staff car parks, for priority vehicle control, industrial site access control, fleet and parking management.

Key features include simultaneous driver and vehicle identification, a reading distance of up to 10m, easy windshield mounting with suction pads and maximum perimeter security.

The TRANSIT Prox Booster (120-125 KHz),SMARTCARD Booster (13.56MHz) and SMARTCARD Booster Ultimate (2.45GHz and 433MHz) enable long range driver based identification. Driver based ID systems, a building access card and in-vehicle booster ensure that a vehicle can never gain access to a secured area unless occupied by an authorised driver. The booster is used in combination with a personal access credential and is an easy to integrate solution for vehicle access, eliminating the need to issue new cards.

The booster is placed on the windshield on the inside of a vehicle. When an authorised building access card is inserted into the booster, it is read and then boosted to the external Nedap TRANSIT reader. The TRANSIT reader then transmits the credential ID to any standard back end security panel. If the credential is authorised and access is granted the gate will open automatically. Removal of the driver ID then allows the access card to be used for building access.

Users also have the facility to match up vehicles and drivers, as a separate ID (vehicle ID) can be programmed into the booster on certain models. This ensures the right driver is with the right vehicle.

The TRANSIT Prox Booster 2G supports proximity access control cards operating on 120-125 kHz such as HID prox, EM and Nedap. The SMARTCARD Booster 2G supports ISO 14443 or 15693 compliant smartcards (eg. MIFARE, MIFARE DESFIRE, LEGIC, Calypso and HID iClass) operating on 13.56 MHz.

The SMARTCARD Booster Ultimate is also available for almost all card technologies. It supports ISO 14443 or 15693 compliant smartcards (eg. MIFARE, MIFARE DESFIRE, LEGIC, Calypso and HID iClass) operating on 13.56 MHz.

The advanced tag authentication of the SMARTCARD Booster Ultimate is only functional when the Security Key Pack has been installed in the TRANSIT Ultimate.

The SMARTCARD Booster Ultimate operates with two frequencies, and uses the 2.45 GHz for robust vehicle identification and the 433 MHz frequency for advanced tag authentication using AES standards. A bi-directional communication feature in combination with the SMARTCARD Booster Ultimate has also made it possible to write information on the drivers’ access control card when the vehicle enters or leaves a perimeter. Credits, offline access rights or other information can be changed dynamically upon perimeter access

Typical booster applicationsare high secured areas like airports, seaports, military bases, utility companies, corporate and educational campuses, police, fire and other installations where vehicles must be assigned to a specific driver.

NORTECH PARKING SYSTEMS STILL THE BEST CHOICE FOR TOP BOUTIQUE HOTEL

January 21, 2019

NORTECH PARKING SYSTEMS STILL THE BEST CHOICE FOR TOP

BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Access control system specialist Nortech has recently seen a luxury hotel in Bath update its car park by replacing its existing Nortech FeeMaster system with the latest specification.

Nortech’s FeeMaster range was installed by access control system experts APT Security Systems, which is currently updating its past application of the FeeMaster system, so that staff can continue to monitor use of the hotel’s car park.

APT Security Systems is the leading provider of vehicle access control and traffic management systems in the UK. Using its experience in designing and delivering practical and cost effective solutions, APT installed the updated system which includes the FeeMaster Smart Entry Station, FeeMaster Smart Exit Station, and a FeeMaster Smart Console for inside the building. The console allows the staff to control any misuse of the car park and ensures that there are enough parking spaces for its guests.

Mary Lynskey, Operations Manager at APT Security Systems commented, “Nortech’s systems have been used on our projects for a number of years and as with this hotel we are currently updating the equipment at these sites to the latest versions. We have worked with Nortech for more than 20 years and are very pleased with its equipment.”

She continued, “The FeeMaster range has always worked well for the hotel and they were happy to renew the system as it’s the right fit for their business. The client likes how the products work and we will always recommend Nortech to others looking to upgrade their car parking systems.”

Nortech’s FeeMaster Smart parking management system is a flexible, simple and cost-effective way of managing car parking access and controlling validity periods using Mifare smart cards. This avoids the need for expensive cabling between components and minimises disruption.

The FeeMaster entry station is designed to be used to record the date and time that a vehicle enters a car park. Located at the entrance of the car park, it issues tickets to visitors as they arrive, with each ticket containing a barcode, serial number and the date and time. Dispensing the ticket triggers an ‘open’ signal to the entry barrier.

The ticket is then taken to the hotel’s reception desk where the date and time is used in conjunction with the FeeMaster Smart Console.

The FeeMaster Smart exit station prevents unauthorised vehicles leaving a car park or entering restricted areas. Located at the exit of the car park or the entrance to a restricted area, it validates the Mifare smart cards and exit tokens.

The exit station is equipped with a barcode scanner to read exit tokens issued by the FeeMaster Smart console, as well as entry tickets issued at the entry station. Each ticket is valid for single use at the exit station during the validity period assigned to it. The exit station controller checks the details on the barcode ticket and sends an ‘open’ signal to the barrier.

The FeeMaster Smart Console is a compact and easy-to-install device that reads barcode tickets issued at the entry station, calculates the fees based on pre-programmed tariff details, and encodes reusable Mifare access control cards with validity data. If necessary, the console can print customer receipts and/or barcode exit tokens. It can also control a till drawer and can optionally provide a relay output signal which can be used by third equipment i.e. barrier control whenever a card has been encoded or an exit ticket printed.

The console may also be connected to a PC so that transactions can be analysed and additional tariff management features may be used.
