City of Sacramento Partners with Global Parking Tech Leader to Design Innovative App

New app is part of a region-wide public education effort highlighting the variety of transportation options available to get to downtown and Golden 1 Center

City of Sacramento continues its commitment to implement advanced technology in order to enhance the user experience by partnering with Parkeon, a global leader of urban mobility technology, to design the SacPark app.

The app, which will be available early Fall 2016, will make it easier to locate a parking spot, purchase parking in advance, provide information on space availability, and obtain real-time traffic information.

The launch of the new app will be integrated into a public education campaign and online navigation tool that will highlight information on various transportation options when traveling to downtown and Golden 1 Center, including: light rail, ride share, and bicycles.

“The collaboration with Parkeon symbolizes Sacramento’s commitment to innovation and is one piece of our overall transportation strategy,” said Matt Eierman, City of Sacramento Parking Manager. “The new technology will direct motorists to available parking and improve our transportation management during a time of increased activity in the Central City and the opening of Golden 1 Center.”

The City will be the first U.S. city to implement Parkeon’s newest Path to Park Technology, which has been successfully deployed in France and Belgium.

“We are thrilled about the partnership with the City of Sacramento,” said Bertrand Barthelemy, CEO of Parkeon. “Our global expertise in urban mobility and mobile device technology will provide citizens with a seamless parking experience, and will improve overall traffic management in the downtown Sacramento.”

The City and its partners are committed to making the Sacramento experience convenient and pleasant. The SacPark app will be available before the first event at Golden 1 Center to purchase parking in advance.

Moorestown, NJ, July 5, 2016 – Parkeon, a leading provider of smart city solutions, has announced that it will launch a new feature for its Whoosh! mobile parking payment application at the 2016 Pacific Intermountain Parking Transportation Association (PIPTA) Conference & Expo.  The Whoosh! app gives parkers the user-friendly capability to be able to pay for parking from their mobile devices and extend time from anywhere.  Parkeon has recently added the exciting new ability to use the Whoosh! app on the Apple Watch and will have this feature on display for the first time at this year’s PIPTA Conference.

“This launch demonstrates that Parkeon is continuously developing its services to make parking easier,” says Sean Renn, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Parkeon, Inc.  “The Whoosh! app in itself is very user friendly, and the added functionality of interfacing with the Apple Watch will make the parking experience even more enjoyable.”

Parkeon Helps Harvard Parking Services With Space Turnover At Continuum

January 28, 2016

Parkeon

Moorestown, NJ – January 28, 2016 – Parkeon, a global provider of smart city and campus solutions has announced that it has recently completed a new on-street parking project for Harvard Parking Services utilizing Pay by License Plate technology. The goal of the project was to implement a system that helps promote turnover of parking spaces around Continuum, a new mixed-use development near the campus that includes apartments, shops, and streetside restaurants.

The project implementation included the installation of solar powered Strada multi-space parking meters featuring a full color 7” display screen and capacitive QWERTY keypad for license plate entry. The Stradas are equipped with wireless modems allowing the meters to communicate in real-time with Parkeon’s Parking Rights Management System (PRM) to identify the exact parking rights to assign each parker.

To ensure that spaces at Continuum have high turnover but in a customer friendly way, parkers are able to receive one hour of free parking once per day and have the option to purchase one additional hour during the same day. Because the Parkeon PRM system is very flexible, the additional hour of paid parking does not have to be purchased consecutively with the initial free hour. Additionally, the system eliminates “meter feeding” and encourages parking rotation because the Stradas will not accept payments from parkers if they have already reached the two hour maximum stay.

“We have utilized Parkeon multi-space meters for several years,” said Jim Kotzuba, Associate Director of Harvard Parking Services.. “We were already familiar with the reliability of the equipment so we were very excited when we found out that their parking management system could meet our needs on-street at Continuum.”

The Strada multi-space parking meters were tested and installed by Parkeon’s New England distribution partner, Wescor Parking Controls, based out of Auburn, MA.
