PIE 2022 and the Salt of the Earth of American Small Towns – ParkNews.biz Jan 18th – 24th, 2022

“To play catch on an evening, to smell the river, to hear the train pass. These little towns were once the bold ramparts meant to shelter just such peace.”
― Marilynne Robinson, Gilead

This past week, our Parking Today team, were blessed to spend some time in Reno, NV at the Grand Sierra Resort, where our PIE 2022 will be held on May 15th – 18th, 2022.  Marcy Sparrow, marcy@parkingtoday.com, has organized and hosted most engaging and inspiring, get together for us at Parking Today and our sponsors.  Thank you Marcy.  Through those couple days in Reno, we have discovered that kindness, sincerity, courage, appreciating and joy of life, are well alive in small town America.  And perhaps that is where we should look while getting back to living fully.

Please read this blog from JVH, that tells you more about Reno: Jan 24, 2022 – What Kind of a Place is This? – JVH, Parking Today.

John says: “Reno is 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe, one of the most beautiful settings in the world. It is surrounded by mountains that offer vistas unparalleled. A short drive away is historic Virginia City, reminding one of the times when fortunes were taken from the ground. When you go to Reno, plan to stay a few days and see what this area has to offer.

Locals talk about being able to walk their downtown. Central Reno is 10 minutes from the Airport, traffic is light during rush hour, major hotels are within a few minutes’ drive of each other.  Our hotel, the Grand Sierra Resort, is less than seven minutes from the airport, and 10 minutes to downtown.

This city offers world class accommodations at shockingly low prices. Our rooms, comparable to any in major hotels across the country, were under $100 a night. We aren’t talking Motel 6 here, but recently renovated, ultra modern, extremely comfortable places to stay.”

QR codes are talked much on ParkNews.biz including the headline: Jan 24, 2022 – FBI issues warning after fraudulent QR codes scams in Texas:

“This week the FBI issued a public advisory about this after fraudulent QR code stickers were found in more than two dozen parking stations in Austin, Texas.

According to the Austin Police Department, those QR codes may have sent those parking payments to a fraudulent vendor instead.

Chris Hamer advises people to question everything even if it’s a trusted business or restaurant.

“It’s very easy to print up a QR code and replace it on a sticker,” said Hamer.”

Also there is a blog spot from Honk addressing the issue: Jan 24, 2022 – Honk: A Quick Response to the Question of QR Security

Last but not least, Brian Bullen has a special email blast offering on the Road to PIE 2022.  Promote your company, your products, your solutions via his program.  Don’t miss out – contact Brian at brian@parkingtoday.com

Have a blessed week.

Thank you.

ParkMobile Welcomes Two Technology Vice Presidents

October 05, 2021

ParkMobile Welcomes Two Technology Vice Presidents

Kara Womack, VP of Product, and Chris Henderson, VP of Mobile and Web Engineering, Join ParkMobile’s Growing Leadership Team

Atlanta, GA – October 5, 2021 –  ParkMobile, the #1 parking app in North America, announced today the hirings of Kara Womack as VP of Product and Chris Henderson as VP of Mobile and Web Engineering. Combined, they have over 30 years of experience in the technology industry.

Womack comes to ParkMobile with over 20 years of experience in product strategy, design, and management. Most recently, she was the Senior Director of Web Strategy and Experience for UserTesting where she helped develop and implement a new monetization strategy, drove customer acquisition strategy and conversion rate optimization for the corporate website, and led product growth initiatives for the company. Prior to that, she spent 18 years at Cox Enterprises, leading product and design teams for Cox Radio and Cox Media Group before transitioning to lead the Autotrader product team. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama Huntsville.

Prior to ParkMobile, Henderson worked for Wunderman Thompson Apps, where he led the engineering team as the Engineering Staff Director for 10+ mobile and OTT apps. He helped build the agency’s first in-house React Native, Roku, and Web development teams. Throughout his career, Henderson has held various development and strategy roles in the tech field, including iOS Platform Lead, Mobile Architect, and Technical Account Manager. Henderson holds a bachelor’s degree in Computational Media from Georgia Institution of Technology.

These hires come at the end of a strong Q3 for ParkMobile as they continue to break company records after a slower 2020 due to COVID. ParkMobile is currently up almost 300% versus 2020, as cities re-open across the country and in-person events return. They also hit the 27 million user milestone in August and added over 100 new locations so far in 2021, including Auburn, AL, Dover, DE, Arcata, CA, and Leavenworth, WA, all in Q3.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chris Henderson and Kara Womack to our growing team,” says Chris Huff, Chief Technology Officer for ParkMobile. “We are committed to delivering amazing products, and their vast experiences in product design, development, and strategy make them integral additions to our company.”

“I’m thrilled to join ParkMobile and look forward to contributing my skills and experience to drive even more growth for our business in the future,” adds Womack.

“I am excited to rejoin former teammates at ParkMobile and I look forward to the challenges offered by a global product company,” says Henderson.

Parkster.ai: Supplying parking apps with real time data of available parking spaces through AI | Debuts website

Parkster.ai: Supplying parking apps with real time data of available parking spaces through AI | Debuts website

CHICAGO, IL (September 20, 2021)Parkster.ai, a platform that helps drivers find parking instantly through artificial intelligence, debuts website on September 20, 2021.

Parkster.ai is on a mission to help parking apps.

We acknowledge a distinction between navigation apps and parking experience-based apps. Navigation apps simply direct drivers to go from one location to another (Examples: Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze). Parking experience-based apps, first coined by Astrid Ambroziak, are solely focused on helping drivers park (Examples: PayByPhone, SpotHero, ParkMobile).

In the long run, Parkster.ai will collaborate with both types of parking apps. However, we are currently focused on collaborating with parking experience-based apps.

Why would you want to collaborate with parking experience-based apps? Aren’t they your competition?

A scalable technology to help track the availability of parking spaces in real time globally, accurately, and cost-efficiently does not exist… until now. With Parkster.ai’s patent pending artificial intelligence algorithm, we are able to provide this futuristic solution.

We are not trying to compete with any other parking experience-based apps. Actually, we are a B2B SaaS company looking to collaborate with these apps. We want to help these apps park an exponential number of drivers by using our AI. Through our integration, we will then help drivers find parking instantly which is our company’s mission.

How?

We are currently building an API that will allow parking apps to receive the exact locations of available parking spaces across the world at any given moment. The API is being designed to seamlessly integrate. The real time data will be able to pair well with an app that displays a map of where parking zones are located. After using our API, the next logical step is then showing where the available parking spaces are which will make the parking experience an infinite amount of times faster and painless for the driver.

About Parkster.ai

Parkster.ai is on a mission to provide instant parking to the world. We believe that every driver deserves the right to park faster.

“If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs …” – If, Rudyard Kipling

Amygdala Hijack can happen to any of us especially during the current circumstances. Yet, as Kipling guides us, “If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!”

This past week on ParkNews.biz here are some parking industry leaders, moving forward, creating, adding value and solving challenges.

PayByPhone brings contactless parking into 10 new locations amongst them, Cleveland, OH, Albuquerque, NM and Camden, NJ. Roamy Valera, PayByPhone CEO said: “With the addition of the PayByPhone app, residents, visitors, students, and workers in these communities now have access to a seamless, safe, and contactless parking experience.”

Coord comes to Omaha, NE to create Smart Zones to better manage curbside loading and thus reducing congestion and improving safety.

Once again Brandy Stanley and City of Las Vegas leads the way in collaboration. Together with Arrive and Flowbird the Las Vegas Parking Services they provide a better parking experience for us the customers. Using the tap-to-pay service, a driver can pull up to a parking garage or available street-level spot, scan an NFC tag or QR code with a smartphone and complete the transaction with or without an app. Payment is handled by Apple Pay, Google Pay or via credit card.
“I think it makes it a lot easier for people to pay,” said Brandy Stanley, parking services manager for the city of Las Vegas. “Most of the payment options we present to people take time. You have to use your credit card or coins at a meter, or you have to download an app. This takes hardly any time at all.”
One benefit, she said, is reducing customer complaints over violations. “[People] will contact us if they get a parking citation because the technology we presented them doesn’t work. And we have gotten none of those requests with regards to the QR code and the NFC tag,” Stanley said.

Phoenix Motorcars wins grant with Houston Metro and EasyMile for development of first FMVSS compliant autonomous shuttle bus in the US.

University of Victoria, Canada collaborates with HonkMobile to bring new parking app.

Endera, a technology company specializing in commercial electric vehicles, charging stations and software solutions, delivered 18 all-electric passenger shuttles to ACE Parking, for use at the San Diego International Airport. By the end of 2020, 29 all-electric vehicles will be delivered, making it the largest deployment of an all-electric fleet at a US airport.

Last week, also majority of parking industry were attending NPA’s PMX Live. Our John Van Horn wondered the floor and wrote a few blogs worth reading. One of them asks some questions that gets us energized to move our parking industry forward. Please check out John’s blogs on Parking Today.

At NPA’s PMX Live, Toledo Ticket Company announced their “new identity” as Toledo Ticket Technologies. The link to Tom Carter’s youtube video is on ParkNews.biz.

Also at PMX Live, Andi Campbell, Sr. Vice President of Human Resources at LAZ Parking, has been awarded the 2020 Women in Parking IMPACT Award, LAZ CEO Alan Lazowski.

And last but not least, Advanced Parking Concepts (APC) received the “Innovator of the Year Award”!

Other partnerships in the news are SpotAngels and WhereiPark and INRIX and HERE building end to end parking ecosystem.

So much more daily on ParkNews.biz to energize us, so we all can have “If” alive in our hearts and in our daily steps.

Awaken Your Vision with ParkNews.biz Sep 1-14th, 2020!

September 14, 2020

Awaken Your Vision with ParkNews.biz Sep 1-14th, 2020!

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight and no vision.” – Helen Keller

It is all in the vision.  These past couple weeks on ParkNews, here are some companies and and news items showing how despite circumstances, we are moving forward and creating value.

This week, JVH is rocking it at NPA’s PMX Live.  Find out which companies he is visiting, what he is learning and what inspires him.

People are driving and buying cars.  Especially used cars. Neal E. Boudette writes in NY Times:  “Used cars are usually overlooked in the fanfare accorded to cutting-edge electric cars and gussied-up pickup trucks. Now they are suddenly the industry’s hottest commodity.

Consumers are snapping up used vehicles as second or third cars so they can avoid trains, buses or Ubers during the coronavirus pandemic. Others are buying used rather than new to save money in an uncertain economy, not knowing when they or their spouse might lose a job. Demand for older cars has also been fed by a roughly two-month halt in production of new cars this spring.” Good news for parking?  Yes indeed.

Good news for parking comes from ParkMobile for one and Passport.  ParkMobile entered  new partnerships with the cities of Fresno, Clearwater, Orlando, and the Chattanooga Parking Authority to consolidate reporting, policies and rates for their entire parking operation in the ParkMobile 360 platform.  Passport has teamed up with with Alphabet Inc.’s Google to allow consumers in Austin, Texas, to pay for parking through Google Maps using Google Pay at on-street and municipally controlled parking spaces.

PayByPhone has brought a better parking experience to Camden, NY and to University of Nevada, Reno campus.

The news from London is that “AppyWay announced the launch of its £20 million Series B funding round. This will be used to support organic growth of the platform, strategic acquisitions, further technological investment and international scalability.”

There is a new President and Chief Operating Officer at Walker Consultants.  His name is Dave Ryan, PE.  “In his new position, Mr. Ryan will be responsible for the implementation and execution of the strategies and activities required to achieve the company’s operations’ objectives. He will additionally continue his role as the Managing Director of the central region. “Dave brings a strong background in the wide rangeof services that Walker offers and leadership qualities that will take the company to the next level” says John Bushman, Chairman and CEO.”

Other companies on the move are ParkVia.  They come to Tirana, Albania’s only international airport to “kickstart the brand’s campaign for growth following a hiatus for COVID-19.”

And Applied Professional Systems (APS) has been selected to install a smart, simple, and scalable EnSight Technologies parking guidance system at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California.

On Sep 22nd at 2 pm EDT gtechna brings you their webinar: Future Technology Today – Ensuing Your Laws Support Ticket by Mail.

Last but not least, read JVH’s latest blogs, especially the one in remembrance of 9/11.

Open ParkNews.biz daily, stay informed and create your own vision to move Parking Industry forward while creating the best parking experience to all involved.

God bless you all.

Auraria Campus Partners with ParkMobile to Offer Contactless Payments on Denver Campus

Auraria Campus Partners with ParkMobile to Offer Contactless Payments on Denver Campus

ParkMobile replaces the Passport app for campus parking

Denver, CO – August 27, 2020 – ParkMobile, the leading provider of smart parking and mobility solutions in the U.S., announced today the launch of service on the Auraria Campus in Denver, Colorado. Effective September 1, 2020, the previous mobile parking app, Passport, will no longer be available. The ParkMobile app will be the only parking payment app available on campus. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors will be able to use the ParkMobile app for touchless parking payments for over 4,100 parking spaces available on campus.

ParkMobile is the #1 parking app in the U.S. with over 19 million users and is available for both iPhone and Android devices. To pay for parking with the ParkMobile app, a user enters the zone number posted on the stickers and signs around parking space. The user then selects the amount of time needed and touches the “Start Parking” button to begin the session. The user can also extend the time of the parking session on their mobile device without having to go back to the meter. ParkMobile offers all the same features and functionality as Passport app but provides a better user experience and 24/7/365 customer support. The ParkMobile app is also available in many more locations in the Colorado and across the country.

The launch of ParkMobile on the Auraria Campus expands the company’s footprint in Colorado. There are currently over 700,000 users of the app in the state with availability in Denver, Boulder, Winter Park, Telluride, Manitou Springs, Steamboat Springs, and Colorado Springs. Additionally, the app can be used at the University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Boulder and Colorado Springs campuses. Beyond Colorado, the app can be used to pay for parking in over 400 cities across the United States.

“We’re always working to improve the parking experience for the Auraria Campus community,” said Lena Price, Director or Parking & Transportation Services. “After much research, we found that ParkMobile provides a better user experience and already has a large base of users in downtown Denver. We anticipate that this will be an easy transition for the Auraria Campus community.”

“We want to welcome the Auraria Campus to our network in Colorado,” says Jon Ziglar, CEO of ParkMobile. “We have thousands of users in the immediate area who will now have an easier way to pay for parking when they visit the campus.

Progress: The reasonable and the unreasonable of ParkNews.biz 07/28-08/03/2020

August 03, 2020

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” – George Bernard Shaw

Progress: The reasonable and the unreasonable of ParkNews.biz 07/28-08/03/2020

This past week on ParkNews.biz reflects that no matter what the circumstances, progress is being made.  That complacency is not a pandemic.  That the courageous are not afraid to fail and take risks and thus create value.

Here are the few of the movers in parking and mobility arena finding solutions:

Alchemco, the very company you ought to be hiring now to fix and waterproof your parking structures, has acquired a distribution company in Brazil, Tecnorap Sistemas Construtivos.  Alchemco is now in 75 countries. One of their products TechCrete 2500 Waterproofing Agent,’ recently won the ‘2020 Most Innovative Product Award’ at the World of Concrete Convention in Las Vegas.

NYC Streets Blog predicts, invites and calls for equity in mobility including parking.  Agree or disagree, isn’t divergent thinking and asking ourselves questions that awakens each of us  to action and thus progress? What can I do instead of what “can they do?”  In the article Gersh Kuntzman says: “New York City is at risk of failing to seize the historic challenge of COVID to create more equity and sustainability in its transportation system, and must quickly add bike and bus lanes, build bike parking, widen sidewalks, reduce speed limits and make driving more expensive, says a new report from two of the city’s most influential transportation think tanks.”

SenSen Networks motivates us all with their good news about their money.  Despite COVID-19  they recorded two of its best-ever cash flow quarters in the 2020 financial year and is robustly moving towards being cashflow positive and profitable in FY21 as it continues to see strong software sales.

Park Assist knows that we are all social beings and yes, we do need life entertainment.  They are moving forward determined to help Mohegan Sun to be the largest, most spectacular entertainment, gaming, dining and shopping destinations in the United States.  Thanks to Park Assist, parking will be a breeze at the Thames River in scenic southeastern Connecticut from now on.

Belated news of Miami Parking Authority new CEO, comes from wonderful Jessica Britton of PayByPhone.  Thank you, Jessica! Hello Ladies:  the new CEO is Alejandra “Alex” Argudin.  “Alex becomes the first woman CEO of the MPA in more than six decades of its existence, Alex brings over 13 years of experience at the Authority, nine of which have been as Chief Operations Officer.”  In these years, one of the initiatives Alex  implemented, is the increase in the utilization of PayByPhone in Miami from about 23 percent five years ago to an impressive 93 percent adoption rate.  Contactless parking at its best!

More contactless parking and thus convenience to customers comes across the USA and Canada: HonkMobile offers cashless parking at the London International Airport Team. ParkMobile comes to Lake George, NY.  Passport is now in The Village of Pelham, NY.  Flowibird might be just the answer for parking experience in Pensacola, FL.

Safe and safety are on our minds the last few months.  Our end greetings usually are “be safe.”  Did you know that “more than 1,600 lives were lost in 2018 due to wrong-way driving collisions, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” Who will save this problem?  TAPCO is willing and ready.  U.S. DOT Research Contract to Further Develop Innovative Wrong-Way Driving Solutions on Highway Ramps.

Reasonable and or unreasonable?   What if the only thing that matters is the question, does it create value, jobs, a movement forward?

Village of Pelham, NY adds Passport Parking

Drivers use cashless payment option to pay on the go and easily manage parking sessions

Village of Pelham, N.Y. (July 29, 2020) — The Village of Pelham announces the launch of Passport Parking, a digital application that allows parkers the option of paying with their smartphones as an additional option to the traditional “coin-only” choice. By providing a cashless, contactless payment option parkers can manage sessions safely and without the hassle of digging for quarters.

“The combination of Passport’s mobile app, citation management and digital permitting software has simplified the way parking is managed in our community.” said Cara Farrell, Village of Pelham Assistant to the Village Administrator. “We are excited for the future we share with Passport.”

Not Mission Statements, but Mission Questions

July 27, 2020

Not Mission Statements, but Mission Questions

“Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.” – Louis D. Brandeis

Parking Industry never gives up!  As ParkNews.biz press releases and news show, we are moving forward.  We don’t do mission statements but mission questions: How can we serve better, create jobs, get people parking and making parking non event?  And how can we use the wins of others to motivate ourselves and be the change we want to see?

Here are some successes from this past week:

Smarking and Wen Sang hosted a fantastic panel Webinar on July 21st, 2020.  Wen Sang rocks as a host of zoom panels.  He is a master or of questions and there is art to asking questions.  Have you tried lately creating a culture of inquiry in your company?  Wen does that in Parking Industry.  Thank you Wen.  The panelists of the Webinar were : • PaybyPhone: Adam Kriegel VP of Sales, East • Parkmobile: Jeff Perkins, CMO and Head of Product • HonkMobile: Kacey Siskind, Senior Vice President • Parkonect: Harlan Karp, Founding Partner • JustPark: Hannah Fuller, Head of Parking Partnerships • ParkHub: Geoffrey Byers, Chief Product Officer • GetmyParking: Chirag Jain, Founder & CEO • ZipBy: Brooks Ellis, President • TEZ: Geremy Rodamer, Director of Concepts • Smarking: Cassius Jones, Head of National Accounts.  From all of them the one who valued the manner of questioning most was Harlan Karp.  He asked albeit all the technology is great and necessary, how do we get occupancy levels up and people parking?

JuiceBar is thriving.  More and more people are interested in buying EVs.  The infrastructure of EVs in parking structures, parking lots and on street, make the ownership of an electric car even more appealing.  And yes, we are going to be driving more I see it in my crystal ball.  Thus, JuiceBar has launched an innovative line of chargers that deliver the safest and fastest electric vehicle charging experience and which do not require network servicing agreements.  Now is the time for cities and municipalities, universities, shopping venues and other to gear up with these chargers.

QR codes are going bananas!  Yes, you can pay for parking with a QR code via Flowbird Strada Pay Stations as well as their app in Las Vegas.  You can also find and reserve parking and EV charging.  Once again Brandy Stanley refuses to be complacent and is determined to create the best parking experience for Las Vegas visitors and locals alike.

We are better together than alone unequivocally.  Thus partnerships thrive, as shown on ParkNews.biz by APS and EnSight Technologies in installing EnSight’s camera-based parking guidance solutions for the US Navy Headquarters in San Diego.

Since contactless and touchless is the MO these days, PayByPhone and ParkMobile apps are becoming the way to pay for parking.  PayByPhone launched in Fort Lee, NJ, Cleveland, OH and Wellesley, MA.  ParkMobile entered partnership with EasyPark throughout Canada.  Passport is now in Hamilton, Ontario.

However, apps or not, dig out your spare change from your pockets and feed those meters.  We need circulations of these coins since it is reaching into our own “clay jars” for our treasures and spending them freely, gets this parking business and economy going.   Drive, spend, create or at least ride your bike.  Yes, the sales of the latter are through the roof!

See you next week,

Astrid Ambroziak
