Black Friday, US retail’s biggest day of the year, promises us two things: some outstanding shopping bargainsand, if we’re not careful, a real parking headache.

With traditional bricks-and-mortar retail under increasing pressure, there is a real need to optimize the whole customer experience in order to secure footfall and that all- important repeat business.

Poor parking and access to venues has been shown to be one of the main reasons, if not the main reason, for shoppers failing to return. Many malls and outlets have already realized this and have parking managementstrategies in place that direct new arrivals to available capacity.

But it’s no longer even the case that parking lots will necessarily be full. With eCommerce taking a bite outof bricks and mortar’s sales, there will often be spare capacity. Buying habits have changed, and so haveexpectations.

Venues have discounted savagely. They have also introduced ‘buy online and pick up’ services. At the same time, shoppers are becoming more discerning — apps and the online experience have increased the sense ofimmediacy and better individual service.

So, it’s no longer just a case of finding ‘a’ parking space; shoppers want ‘the’ parking space that best serves their precise needs. In some cases, that may even be several spaces, one after the other, as people venue-hop, beating the rush by getting in, getting done and getting gone.

Better from the customer’s point of view, then, if you can plan your parking strategy before getting in the car. Better yet if you can book online, know precisely where you’re going, and have the guarantee that when you arrive, the space (or spaces) you booked will be vacant for your use.

All this requires highly accurate sensing systems, and an electronic back office solution that can understand and make best use of available capacity and then share that knowledge online or via dynamic on-streetand at-venue signage.

ATS’ ParkingCloud™ is a single data platform that connects with vehicle-counting and other data-collection devices and then assimilates the information they gather via the Cloud. It provides parking scheme operatorswith a single dashboard for all their parking needs. It gives customers the ability to manage their parking requirements, and updates them in real time.

“Because it’s device-agnostic, ParkingCloud can work with any supplier’s detection and counting solutions,”says Andy Souders, CEO for ATS. “That means that malls and other venues needn’t worry about the sunk cost of existing solutions. We can supply all that they need but we can also work with what they have to produce a state-of-the-art parking management solution — one which optimizes space utilization, guarantees revenues and helps to build customer relations.

“The performance improvements we can provide are relatively inexpensive and near- instant. But they can make a real difference in terms of a venue’s public image and profitability — important considerations in an increasingly competitive retail environment.”

– Insights from Parkopedia’s 2019 North America Parking Index –

  • The 2019 North American Parking Index report looks at the 50 most expensive cities in North America for paid parking, both on-street and in parking garages.
  • New York retains its position as North America’s most expensive city for 2-hour parking, for both on-street and off-street.
  • Montreal is the most expensive Canadian city for paid 2-hour on-street parking, as well as off-street.
  • In the majority of cities in North America, 2-hour on-street prices are significantly cheaper than off-street parking rates; only Miami Beach has cheaper off-street parking.
  • New York is also the most expensive city for daily and monthly parking, with Boston in second position for both daily and monthly prices.

Detroit, USA – November 14, 2019

Parkopedia today released its 2019 North America Parking Index, with the aim of providing an accurate overview of the North American parking market. The 2019 report provides an update on the 50 most expensive cities for short-stay, daily and monthly paid parking in North America, data which was first analysed in Parkopedia’s 2017 report. The report also includes street pricing for the first time, as well as an analysis of 10 US cities to understand the distribution of pricing, parking density and estimated yield within a city. Report highlights include:

Cost of 2 Hour Parking

Motorists will find cheaper parking on-street as opposed to off-street (e.g. parking garage) in most North American cities, with significant price differentials in Denver, Boston, Jersey City, Newark and Dallas. Only Miami Beach has cheaper average prices for paid 2-hour off-street parking.

New York retains its position as the most expensive city in North America (and the world) for short-term off-street parking, with Chicago in second position and Boston in third. Montreal is now the most expensive Canadian city for 2-hour parking for both on-street and off-street, overtaking 2017’s most expensive city Calgary.

Cost of Daily and Monthly Parking

The same 3 cities that rank most expensive for 2-hour off-street pricing – New York, Boston and Chicago – are also the most expensive for daily parking, as was the case in 2017.

New York is once again the most expensive North American city for monthly parking, with Boston in second as it was in 2017, with San Francisco pushed into fourth place behind Jersey City.

Commenting on the report, Parkopedia CEO Eugene Tsyrklevich said, “Parkopedia originated in San Diego, and has since grown to provide the most comprehensive and accurate parking database in the world, revolutionising the way drivers search for and find available parking via the web, mobile apps and in-car. This enables us to supply the parking industry, planners and the general public with deep insights and detailed analysis, captured in this report.”

TagMaster granted new patent in the USA regarding toll solution

Stockholm, Sweden 12 November 2019

TagMaster, a leading supplier of advanced sensor systems for Smart Cities within Traffic and Rail, has been granted a patent in the USA for a software solution for combining information from a number of antennas in electronic toll solutions and thereby increasing the efficiency of the system.

The patent, which has number 10.438.482 and has been issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, describes a method for using received signals from a plurality of separate antennas in a multilane installation. By combining data can the specific lane of a particular vehicle be determined.

Determination of lanes is fundamental to electronic toll solutions and the now patented innovation provides a very cost effective and accurate solution. This is of particular importance in the difficult environment of multi-path reflections when using for instance UHF RFID for road tolling.

“The granting of our patent application further recognizes the high quality of our innovation work. In addition, it gives us strength in the relationships with key market players for tolls as the solution has been developed in response to actual market needs and within a priority area for us”, said Jonas Svensson, CEO, TagMaster.
