The Plaza Coral Gables Selects Park Assist’s Parking Guidance System

The Plaza Coral Gables Selects Park Assist’s
Parking Guidance System

CHESHIRE, CT – December 8th, 2020 – Park Assist® has been awarded the Parking Guidance System (PGS) contract for The Plaza Coral Gables. Owned by Agave Ponce and developed by Coastal Tishman, this site is a newly constructed 2.1 million-square-foot mixed-use development based in the heart of Coral Gables. The site will be comprised of office, residential, retail, and hotel spaces. This will be the largest mixed-use development in Coral Gables, FL, intended to galvanize the community upon its completion in 2022. Park Assist’s camera-based M4 smart-sensor system will help The Plaza maximize each garage’s efficiency while delivering an unparalleled customer experience as guests arrive at this new destination.

As a mixed-use development, the client will have several different user groups utilizing the parking facilities. Eager to facilitate a smooth parking experience for all guests, Agave Ponce and Coastal Tishman chose to implement Park Assist’s M4 smart-sensor technology. In addition to the M4 PGS, the garages at The Plaza Coral Gables will also include Park Assist’s digital wayfinding signage and its Park Surveillance™ software add-on.

As visitors arrive at the garage, exterior and entry wayfinding digital signage show real-time vacancy counts informing parkers which facility or parking level has available space. After entering, interior wayfinding signage and directional in-aisle pointers provide follow up parking guidance, helping them make on-the-spot decisions within a chosen level.

Park Assist’s state-of-the-art PGS will then be used to help quickly and effortlessly guide visitors to available parking spaces. The patented, camera-based technology directs visitors to vacancies using color-coded smart-sensors. Turning from red to green when spaces become available, this PGS removes uncertainty from the parking journey, saving visitors time searching for open bays, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic even during peak periods, and allowing guests to reach their destination sooner.

In addition to the M4 camera-based PGS, Park Assist’s exclusive software extension, Park Surveillance, will also be included in the installation. This module enables the M4 sensors to capture streaming video of the facility. With unobstructed views of each space and the area in between vehicles, the M4 sensors can successfully capture all activity in the garage, deterring criminal behaviors and intrusions from unwelcome visitors while helping to protect owners and management against any fraudulent claims of theft or vandalism.

“We are thrilled to be working with Coastal Tishman and Agave Ponce for this exciting new project. The Plaza Coral Gables is slated to be the largest mixed-use project in Coral Gables, FL with various amenities and services available for the community. Park Assist will be able to provide an exceptional customer experience between the different user groups and help make the parking experience seamless.” Said Thomas Alexander, National Channel Manager.

Working with Agave Ponce and Coastal Tishman, site construction is occurring in three distinct phases. Work has already begun on the first phase, the North Parcel, and the second phase of work for the Central Parcel will begin in Q1 of 2021.

Whole Foods Market Chooses Park Assist to Elevate the Parking Experience

Whole Foods Market Chooses Park Assist to Elevate
the Parking Experience

CHESHIRE, CT –  September 10th, 2020 – Park Assist® has been awarded the Parking Guidance System (PGS) contract at Whole Foods Market HQ and Flagship store in Austin, Texas. The multinational supermarket chain, founded in 1980, quickly rose in popularity thanks to its focus on quality, sustainability, and natural and organic foods. This commitment to quality also extends to the value Whole Foods places on both customer and employee satisfaction.

Whole Foods’ HQ and Flagship store sees an extremely high traffic volume, causing parking shortages within the underground garage. Employee parking is often overfilled, and team members are left searching for open spaces, costing them valuable time and gas while adding to congestion. To alleviate this unnecessary inconvenience, Park Assist offered Whole Foods the ideal solution to help accommodate and elevate its guest and team member experience.

Park Assist’s camera-based M4 PGS and exterior wayfinding signage remove all confusion from the parking journey by clearly guiding visitors from beginning to end. The exterior signs, continuously updated with real-time data, indicate the number of available spaces within each area of the facility, and enable parkers to determine the best parking location at any given moment. From there, the M4 smart-sensor system goes a step further and specifies whether parking bays are available or occupied using color-coded LED lights, so there is no more guessing.

Additionally, Park Assist’s custom mobile Park App allows Whole Foods’ team members to find open spaces and decide where to park before heading to work. Because there are several different locations designated for team member parking, the ability to predict availability before arriving is key to guaranteeing a hassle-free, no-time-wasted, employee parking experience.

“Our team is really pleased to work with Whole Foods Market, in Austin, Texas, where they started. Park Assist’s M4 technology will not only make employee parking quicker and easier, but it will also help reduce parking challenges and traffic congestion in a busy, growing downtown location.” Said Jeff Sparrow, Regional Account Manager.

The installation is set to go live by the end of 2020.

Progress: The reasonable and the unreasonable of ParkNews.biz 07/28-08/03/2020

August 03, 2020

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” – George Bernard Shaw

Progress: The reasonable and the unreasonable of ParkNews.biz 07/28-08/03/2020

This past week on ParkNews.biz reflects that no matter what the circumstances, progress is being made.  That complacency is not a pandemic.  That the courageous are not afraid to fail and take risks and thus create value.

Here are the few of the movers in parking and mobility arena finding solutions:

Alchemco, the very company you ought to be hiring now to fix and waterproof your parking structures, has acquired a distribution company in Brazil, Tecnorap Sistemas Construtivos.  Alchemco is now in 75 countries. One of their products TechCrete 2500 Waterproofing Agent,’ recently won the ‘2020 Most Innovative Product Award’ at the World of Concrete Convention in Las Vegas.

NYC Streets Blog predicts, invites and calls for equity in mobility including parking.  Agree or disagree, isn’t divergent thinking and asking ourselves questions that awakens each of us  to action and thus progress? What can I do instead of what “can they do?”  In the article Gersh Kuntzman says: “New York City is at risk of failing to seize the historic challenge of COVID to create more equity and sustainability in its transportation system, and must quickly add bike and bus lanes, build bike parking, widen sidewalks, reduce speed limits and make driving more expensive, says a new report from two of the city’s most influential transportation think tanks.”

SenSen Networks motivates us all with their good news about their money.  Despite COVID-19  they recorded two of its best-ever cash flow quarters in the 2020 financial year and is robustly moving towards being cashflow positive and profitable in FY21 as it continues to see strong software sales.

Park Assist knows that we are all social beings and yes, we do need life entertainment.  They are moving forward determined to help Mohegan Sun to be the largest, most spectacular entertainment, gaming, dining and shopping destinations in the United States.  Thanks to Park Assist, parking will be a breeze at the Thames River in scenic southeastern Connecticut from now on.

Belated news of Miami Parking Authority new CEO, comes from wonderful Jessica Britton of PayByPhone.  Thank you, Jessica! Hello Ladies:  the new CEO is Alejandra “Alex” Argudin.  “Alex becomes the first woman CEO of the MPA in more than six decades of its existence, Alex brings over 13 years of experience at the Authority, nine of which have been as Chief Operations Officer.”  In these years, one of the initiatives Alex  implemented, is the increase in the utilization of PayByPhone in Miami from about 23 percent five years ago to an impressive 93 percent adoption rate.  Contactless parking at its best!

More contactless parking and thus convenience to customers comes across the USA and Canada: HonkMobile offers cashless parking at the London International Airport Team. ParkMobile comes to Lake George, NY.  Passport is now in The Village of Pelham, NY.  Flowibird might be just the answer for parking experience in Pensacola, FL.

Safe and safety are on our minds the last few months.  Our end greetings usually are “be safe.”  Did you know that “more than 1,600 lives were lost in 2018 due to wrong-way driving collisions, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” Who will save this problem?  TAPCO is willing and ready.  U.S. DOT Research Contract to Further Develop Innovative Wrong-Way Driving Solutions on Highway Ramps.

Reasonable and or unreasonable?   What if the only thing that matters is the question, does it create value, jobs, a movement forward?

LONDON, ON, July 29, 2020 – Honk, North America’s leading provider of safe, contactless payments for parking, and London International Airport announced today a joint partnership to bring airport parking completely cashless. The cashless initiative demonstrates the strong commitment from both parties to create the safest and cleanest airport parking experience for travellers and airport staff. When paying with Honk, drivers have two ways to safely reserve and pay for airport parking via Honk’s touch-free payments: 1) Download the free HonkMobile app from the AppStore or Google Play, or 2) Access the eCommerce site at: www.honkmobile.com.

Strong parking safety measures have never been more important amidst COVID-19. Not Mission Statements, but Mission Questions

July 27, 2020

Not Mission Statements, but Mission Questions

“Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.” – Louis D. Brandeis

Parking Industry never gives up!  As ParkNews.biz press releases and news show, we are moving forward.  We don’t do mission statements but mission questions: How can we serve better, create jobs, get people parking and making parking non event?  And how can we use the wins of others to motivate ourselves and be the change we want to see?

Here are some successes from this past week:

Smarking and Wen Sang hosted a fantastic panel Webinar on July 21st, 2020.  Wen Sang rocks as a host of zoom panels.  He is a master or of questions and there is art to asking questions.  Have you tried lately creating a culture of inquiry in your company?  Wen does that in Parking Industry.  Thank you Wen.  The panelists of the Webinar were : • PaybyPhone: Adam Kriegel VP of Sales, East • Parkmobile: Jeff Perkins, CMO and Head of Product • HonkMobile: Kacey Siskind, Senior Vice President • Parkonect: Harlan Karp, Founding Partner • JustPark: Hannah Fuller, Head of Parking Partnerships • ParkHub: Geoffrey Byers, Chief Product Officer • GetmyParking: Chirag Jain, Founder & CEO • ZipBy: Brooks Ellis, President • TEZ: Geremy Rodamer, Director of Concepts • Smarking: Cassius Jones, Head of National Accounts.  From all of them the one who valued the manner of questioning most was Harlan Karp.  He asked albeit all the technology is great and necessary, how do we get occupancy levels up and people parking?

JuiceBar is thriving.  More and more people are interested in buying EVs.  The infrastructure of EVs in parking structures, parking lots and on street, make the ownership of an electric car even more appealing.  And yes, we are going to be driving more I see it in my crystal ball.  Thus, JuiceBar has launched an innovative line of chargers that deliver the safest and fastest electric vehicle charging experience and which do not require network servicing agreements.  Now is the time for cities and municipalities, universities, shopping venues and other to gear up with these chargers.

QR codes are going bananas!  Yes, you can pay for parking with a QR code via Flowbird Strada Pay Stations as well as their app in Las Vegas.  You can also find and reserve parking and EV charging.  Once again Brandy Stanley refuses to be complacent and is determined to create the best parking experience for Las Vegas visitors and locals alike.

We are better together than alone unequivocally.  Thus partnerships thrive, as shown on ParkNews.biz by APS and EnSight Technologies in installing EnSight’s camera-based parking guidance solutions for the US Navy Headquarters in San Diego.

Since contactless and touchless is the MO these days, PayByPhone and ParkMobile apps are becoming the way to pay for parking.  PayByPhone launched in Fort Lee, NJ, Cleveland, OH and Wellesley, MA.  ParkMobile entered partnership with EasyPark throughout Canada.  Passport is now in Hamilton, Ontario.

However, apps or not, dig out your spare change from your pockets and feed those meters.  We need circulations of these coins since it is reaching into our own “clay jars” for our treasures and spending them freely, gets this parking business and economy going.   Drive, spend, create or at least ride your bike.  Yes, the sales of the latter are through the roof!

See you next week,

Patriot Parking Pivots to Cash-Free, Touch-Free Business Using Honk’s Technology

Patriot Parking Pivots to Cash-Free, Touch-Free Business Using Honk’s Technology

Boston-based parking operator goes completely contactless with Honk’s tap-to-pay and mobile app

BOSTON, MA, July 7, 2020 – Honk, North America’s leading provider of safe, contactless payments for parking, is equipping Patriot Parking, a Boston-based parking operator with payment technology to pivot from labor and cash-based commerce to cash-free and touch-free. Thanks to Honk’s touch-free payment technology suite and easy setup, Patriot was able to quickly adapt their parking operations to ensure a safe and secure parking experience for both parking staff and customers in record time. Drivers now have two ways to safely pay for parking: 1) Download the free HonkMobile app from the AppStore or Google Play, or 2) Tap their phone on tap-to-pay smart stations for a quick guest checkout experience – no app download required.

Using Honk’s contactless payment technology, Patriot Parking was able to quickly pivot their parking operation when the pandemic hit in a matter of 3 weeks. Patriot Parking went from being a labor and cash-based operation to a cashless and contactless operation.

HonkTAP smart stations are now set up and installed at all Patriot Parking locations in the Metro Boston area as a safe and clean way for drivers to pay for parking. With no paystation or cash to touch, drivers simply – and safely – tap or scan their smartphone on a HonkTAP smart station to pay for their parking session. HonkAPP is a second onsite payment option – available for download from the AppStore or Google Play. Customers can pay for parking and manage their session directly from their phone.

“Pivoting to a cash-free, touch-free business in the middle of a pandemic was so important for us as a company, and we couldn’t have done it without Honk’s technology and know-how,” said Eric Lane, Operations Manager at Patriot Parking. “The transition was easy, fast and efficient. And best of all – the HonkTAP smart stations were absolutely no cost to us thanks to their zero cost initiative.”

“Back in March, everything changed in the blink of an eye – pivoting from a labor-based operation to a cash-free, touch-free model became paramount for so many. Going forward, the ability to handle transactions safely is and will continue to be extremely important,” said Michael Back, Honk President and CEO. “Our technology and expertise in contactless payments enabled Patriot Parking to be a forerunner in making the change.”

Drivers in Boston are encouraged to search for Patriot Parking locations by accessing www.honkmobile.com to find the absolute safest locations to park in Beantown!

Tattile: First ITS highway system in Serbia

June 15, 2020

Tattile: First ITS highway system in Serbia

In 2019 the Republic of Serbia put the first highway ITS system into operation covering about 200 highway kilometres on the Belgrade – Nis highway in central Serbia. The system of traffic surveillance smart cameras is aimed to improve control and surveillance of highway traffic, reduce accidents with casualties and material losses, and generally improve highway user safety. Additional responsibilities of the ITS system are to detect and sanction oversized vehicles as well as average speed control.

Along the highway, the ITS system has 28 gantry spots with in total 56 installed Tattile Vega Smart 2 HD traffic monitoring cameras – 14 spots from each direction and 2 cameras for every spot. Another part of the entire system is six variable message signs (VMS) which are installed on gantries above all three lanes of the highway and display information from the traffic monitoring cameras about the traffic situation on the highway and at the toll stations ahead.

The system is embedded into a larger project which includes a tolling system on the highway exits. Data generated by the Tattile smart traffic cameras along the highway is shared with the tolling stations. One of them, Plaza Smederevo is already equipped with a Weigh in Motion (WIM) system where measuring of gross and axle weights of vehicles is done without stopping and thus with a minimum influence on traffic flow to maintain a free flow tolling system. The WIM systems are installed on a lane at the Tolling plazas making use of already existent toll equipment, like optical curtains and ANPR (ALPR) cameras, and to potentially be used in future for tolling by weight.

The system operator plans to constantly expand the ITS system across the entire Serbian highway network; and to further improve the system capabilities by adding functionalities such as automatic incident detection algorithms, automatic number plate recognition as well as brand color and class recognition; functions which can be executed by the already installed Tattile Vega Smart 2HD cameras.
