Umojo Expands Commitment to Drive Better Urban Mobility with Award of Sourcewell Curb Management Contract

Cooperative Municipal procurement leader awards Umojo with Preferred Contract Supplier Status for Municipal Curb Management Technologies

Chicago, IL – February 7, 2024Umojo announced today that it is delighted to have been chosen as a contract supplier of Curb Management Technology and Services by Sourcewell, a leader in cooperative purchasing facilitation for public entities across North America.

Sourcewell, A self-sustaining government organization, has over 40 years of dedicated service helping government and education entities operate more efficiently through a variety of solutions, including cooperative RFP facilitation and vetting 3rd party vendors for ease of procurement and faster contracting.

In 2023, The U.S. Department of Transportation opened a grant application program for Municipalities to drive Smart City initiatives. Cities were encouraged to submit innovative program proposals with the purpose of improving safety, efficiency, and quality of life in urban corridors. Of those cities selected to receive grant funding for their program proposals, the majority chose Sourcewell to facilitate the vendor selection and cooperative RFP process on their behalf, thereby creating a simpler, more efficient procurement process for each city.

Sourcewell evaluated vendor proposals as they relate to the scope of services set forth by the organization and participating cities. With an award from Sourcewell and becoming a Sourcewell Awarded Supplier, each participating city can choose solutions from Umojo without having to issue a formal RFP process themselves. Umojo is pleased to be one of the few selected vendors to become a Sourcewell Awarded Supplier, achieving the highest overall ranking amongst all vendor submissions.

Rick Neubauer, Umojo CEO, Stated, “We are honored and excited to be selected by Sourcewell to be a preferred vendor to the Grant Cities for this Curb Management Program. We strongly believe that a city can’t truly become a “Smart City” unless it addresses its curb inventory. As cities strive to meet the evolving needs of their constituents, the curb is quickly becoming its most critical real estate.  Multiple entities compete for its space daily, with rideshares, delivery vehicles, public parking, and public transportation among them. We are excited to partner with grant recipient cities to help solve these problems and improve the lives of citizens and businesses, while promoting a safer, more equitable curb inventory.”

Carlisle, PA To Update Its Parking System with User-Friendly Solution, Flowbird, in 2024

Carlisle, PA To Update Its Parking System with User-Friendly Solution in 2024

New mobile payment options offer faster convenience than ever before.

Carlisle, Pennsylvania — The Borough of Carlisle, Pennsylvania has announced an exciting upgrade to its parking system in partnership with Butts Ticket Systems and Flowbird Group, the leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions. The Borough is replacing its aging single-space parking meters with 56 Flowbird Pay-by-Plate Smart Parking Kiosks, fully equipped with the industry’s latest technology. Additionally, the Borough will now be offering three modernized digital payment options, the Flowbird mobile payment app, Pay-by-Text and Extend-by-Text!

The new parking system will feature 56 solar-powered parking kiosks with a 9.7” full color touch display that is accessible for all customers, including meeting ADA standards. The touch screen display has the look and feel of a tablet, walking users step-by-step through the transaction process. To begin, the user simply enters their license plate number and desired length of stay. Payment will now be accepted with either coins or debit/credit card. Once payment has been made, the parking session has started and there is no need to walk back to their vehicle to display a receipt on the dashboard.

Drivers who are making a quick stop to the downtown area have the option to use the ’15 minutes free parking’ option at the kiosks after inputting their license plate number.

A new and exciting feature of the updated pay stations is Extend-by-Text. Once users finish their transaction on the kiosk, they will have the option to input their mobile phone number. When their parking session is about to expire, they will receive a text with the option to add more time remotely without needing to walk back to the pay station.

The Borough is also excited to announce the release of two other digital parking solutions, the Flowbird Mobile Payment App and Pay-by-Text!

The Flowbird App allows patrons to pay for parking from their mobile devices, receive text notifications when time is about to expire, and extend their time without having to visit a parking kiosk. Designed as a true mobility app, the Flowbird App features a map-based user interface, integrated with Waze and other navigation systems to guide users to their preferred parking location.

The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Pay-by-Text is an easy-to-use web-based solution that allows drivers to pay for their parking session directly from their phone without creating an account or downloading an app.

Here’s how it works: Once the user is parked, they can find a number posted on the side of the kiosk or nearby sign near their parking location. The user simply texts the number provided, immediately receiving a secure link to follow to input their parking details. They enter their license plate number, parking duration and payment information. A confirmation is sent, and their parking session begins. Information is sent to parking enforcement who can verify the vehicle is in compliance. That’s it! There is no need to create an account, download an app, or visit a kiosk.

Paid parking hours throughout the Borough of Carlisle are Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4PM.

By implementing modernized parking solutions with convenient payment options, the Borough will be able to better manage parking turnover and visitor influx during peak periods and provide a more user-friendly experience. The addition of digital payment options will bring a consistent and higher level of customer service to the parking public.

Project management and installation is being managed by Flowbird’s local distribution partner, Butts Ticket Systems, based out of Pennsylvania.

Quercus Technologies: Artificial Intelligence takes control of the new SmartLPR – QAI Inside!

February 08, 2024

Artificial Intelligence takes control of the new SmartLPR: QAI Inside!

The best LPR ever created New%20version%2C%20new%20name_SmartLPR

Quercus Technologies, a forerunner in All-In-One license plate recognition cameras, is proud to announce the launch of its latest innovation, the new version of the SmartLPR system. This advanced license plate recognition system redefines industry standards, introducing novel key features that will mark a new era in vehicle recognition, while maintaining the essential characteristics for which Quercus was the first to market.

With the latest version, we’ve not only made significant improvements to the product, we’ve also changed the name of our cameras, from SmartLPR Access to SmartLPR. The change comes as a result of our decision to go back to the roots of Quercus, consolidating our identity and highlighting the constant evolution of our LPR technology. This new name also represents our determination to lead in the field of artificial intelligence applied to license plate recognition systems.

QAI_greyQuercus is consolidating its role as a forerunner by incorporating its internally-developed Artificial Intelligence technology into the core of its products: QAI Inside! The main innovation is based on the use of artificial intelligence algorithms to detect and recognize license plates (OCR).

With the latest evolution of our technology and integration of artificial intelligence, we’ve also made major improvements to the Free-flow operation mode. These optimizations are taking the camera’s reliability rate to new levels, truly enabling ticketless and barrierless systems to work perfectly. In fact, we now quantify faults in terms of incorrect license numbers per thousand read, instead of one hundred, as had been the practice until now. The combination of advanced license plate recognition capacity and the power of our artificial intelligence has boosted the accuracy and reliability of our system, contributing to more efficient all-around parking management.

SmartLPR_ai

Our system now has the capacity to simultaneously read plates from an unlimited number of countries, doing away with the need to previously specify which ones it should be able to read. This advancement is a landmark, as it makes the system more flexible, and expedites its configuration.

The main goal has always been the same, simplify the experience for operators and enhance that of users. At the heart of this mission is a solid foundation of internal research and development. Our highly specialized team doesn’t just follow technological evolution: they drive it. Constant research, exploration of new frontiers, and the improvement of existing solutions are essential ingredients that define our commitment to ongoing development.

IMAGE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

Another major advancement is the taking of better-quality images, with higher levels of definition and sharpness. Compared to prior versions, images are now seen with exceptional clarity and a more attractive overall look for operators’ visual perception. Enhanced quality and brightness play a crucial role in creating more vivid, user-friendly images.

QUERCUS FIRST

Throughout the years, we have been pioneers when it comes to launching different solutions that set the pace for the industry, a sign of our undying dedication to innovating. Quercus First (QF) reflects our ongoing commitment to leading with a visionary, even revolutionary, approach.

  • Worldwide Use: With recognition in over 200 countries, this advanced license plate recognition camera redefines geographic limits. With the same model, the Smart LPR enables successful implementation in a wide range of settings and conditions, ensuring efficient, accurate responses at the international level.
  • Wide Angle Recognition: Optimal license plate recognition at hard-to-read angles.
  • Dual Lamp – Color and IR reading inside the unit. The camera ensures exceptional performance even in dim conditions, for any type of license plate (reflective and non-reflective, in color or black and white).
  • Motorized Lens: The motorized lens provides exceptional agility and unbeatable accuracy, ensuring optimal image capture in diverse conditions.
  • HRR: The SmartLPR cameras can integrate two license plate recognition units per lane, for double license plate reading. This system, based on an artificial vision algorithm, is called HRR, (High Reliability Recognition). It is a parking system that combines all the characters and digits of the front as well as the rear license plates, enabling complete recognition of the license plate number.
  • IP67: The IP67 Certification guarantees optimal performance, even in challenging weather conditions, or in cases of high levels of dust generated inside the parking facility itself. This ensures the integrity of the system and fault-free operation.

With the SmartLPR License Plate Reader, Quercus Technologies reasserts its position as a leader at the cutting edge of technology, getting the most from the power of AI to offer new license plate recognition solutions. The new era in parking technology marks another example of Quercus’ ongoing responsibility toward constant improvement and meeting the changing needs of its customers around the world.

Blink Charging Chosen by City of Frederick, Maryland, for Downtown Electric Vehicle Charging Solutions

Blink Charging Chosen by City of Frederick, Maryland, for Downtown Electric Vehicle Charging Solutions

Electric vehicle drivers will be able to charge up on the new Blink chargers and enjoy the city’s sights at a ribbon cutting event on February 8, 2024.

Miami Beach, Fla., Feb. 08, 2024 — Blink Charging Co. (NASDAQ: BLNK) (“Blink” or the “Company”), a leading global manufacturer, owner, operator, and provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment and services, announced today that the Company will be installing 20 IQ 200 chargers across four downtown parking garages in the City of Frederick, MD, for residents and visitors to utilize. A ribbon cutting event will mark the installation of the chargers on February 8, 2024, from 11:00-12:00 p.m. EST at the East All Saints parking garage located at 125 E All Saints St. in downtown Frederick.

The installation of 20 charging stations across the four designated parking garages – East All Saints, Carroll Creek, Court Street, and West Patrick – is a result of the City of Frederick’s plan to cater to the charging needs of residents lacking home charging options and visitors to the city. This strategic placement enables convenient vehicle charging for individuals during their downtown visits. These garages are strategically located near key retail, dining, and residential areas within the City of Frederick, enhancing accessibility for users.

“This expansion provides Blink Charging with the opportunity to expand our charging solutions into bustling cities, like Frederick,” said Mike Battaglia, Chief Operating Officer of Blink Charging. “Our mission is to meet electric vehicle drivers, whether residents or visitors, with the convenience of charging on-the-go. We look forward to electrifying the City of Frederick and revolutionizing the future of transportation in the city.”

The collaboration between Blink Charging and the City of Frederick signifies a groundbreaking advancement in the expansion and innovation of EV charging infrastructure. The City of Frederick Department of Economic Development is the proprietor and operator of all four parking garage locations. In a bid to enhance service, it is introducing membership options for residents, ensuring secured access to charging spots, granting them the flexibility to charge their vehicles at their convenience. This initiative is designed to cater to residents and frequent visitors to Frederick, providing added convenience for their trips to the city.

“Frederick attracts nearly 2 million outside visitors per year on top of local transient trips by residents and workers, and in 2023 alone, we saw an uptick of 50% in the number of trips made by EVs. Our downtown parking system, ParkFrederick, strives to be easy to use so the city can continue to encourage tourism spending and prioritize expanding employment. The 20 new Blink chargers represent a huge step toward Frederick providing more charging options.” said Richard Griffin, Director of Economic Development for the City of Frederick.

“The introduction of these new EV charging stations within our downtown parking garages will enhance the convenience of EV ownership and reaffirms the City’s dedication to reducing our carbon footprint,” said Mayor of Frederick, Michael O’Connor. “Efforts like these are why I believe that together with Blink, we are powering Frederick towards a greener, more sustainable future.”

“We’re so excited to offer EV charging options for both residents and visitors alike,” said Jenny Willoughby, the City’s Sustainability Manager. “These chargers will contribute to the reduction of tailpipe emissions and ultimately help improve air quality in the city and the broader region.”

“Increasing the number of EV charging stations is a crucial step toward improving equitable access to clean energy and transportation. The Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition is proud to have supported this important initiative to ensure that all communities have access to EV chargers,” said Antoine M. Thompson, CEO/Executive Director of the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition.

Blink, under the Mid-Atlantic Electrification Partnership through Virginia Energy, recently deployed charging stations in Frederick. These Level 2 (L2) charging stations, strategically placed across six hotel locations in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland, cater to EV drivers, providing them the convenience of charging on-the-go during their visits. Blink’s initiative in the City of Frederick contributes to making EV charging more convenient and accessible for electric vehicle drivers.

Parkopedia collaborates with ChargeHub to provide data and transactions on over 80,000 North American chargers

February 05, 2024

Parkopedia collaborates with ChargeHub to provide data and transactions on over 80,000 North American chargers

  • New partnership between ChargeHub and Parkopedia to provide drivers direct access and frictionless transactions on over 80,000 US and Canadian chargers
  • ChargeHub offers the largest ‘roaming hub’ in North America
  • Access provided to more than 70% of open network chargers in the US and Canada from more than 20 Charge Site Operators (CSOs)

London, UK / Montreal, Canada – Parkopedia, the world’s leading connected car services provider, is partnering with ChargeHub, the largest North American EV roaming hub operator, to enhance the charging experience for millions of North American EV drivers. ChargeHub’s 80,000-strong network of charging stations across the US and Canada will be integrated intoParkopedia’s Payment Platform to enable in-car charger activations and payments via a single sign-on account on participating Charge Site Operators (CSOs). The partnership provides drivers with direct access through their vehicles to a comprehensive number of chargers with coverage across North America, including Parkopedia’s market-leading information on parking and charging, dynamic availability data and charging transactions for EV drivers.

With the highly fragmented nature of charging in North America, adding access through a roaming hub of ChargeHub’s scale means that Parkopedia can provide drivers with stronger nationwide charger coverage. ChargeHub’s PassportHub provides the largest roaming hub in the US and Canada, with more than 20 CSO partners and coverage of more than 70% of open network chargers across North America.

Parkopedia services are currently integrated with more OEM systems than any other connected services provider in the world, ensuring seamless in-car charging activation and payment functionality and increasing ChargeHub’s partner CSOs access to EV drivers. Parkopedia’s connected services expertise also ensures that the data drivers receive is as accurate and complete as possible, thanks to established rigorous data verification processes.

This addresses the challenging prospect of finding chargers – something that 92% of US EV drivers are anxiousabout, with these figures far in excess of any of the other countries surveyed in the Parkopedia 2023 Global Driver Survey. Combined with 74% of American EV owners who stated they have run out of charge at least once, compared with a global average of 66%.

Meanwhile, the partnership provides scope for ChargeHub users to benefit from combined parking and charging data to improve their charging experience as well as to limit the risk of EV drivers receiving parking fines while charging. To date, 68% of US EV drivers have received a parking fine while charging, according to the Global Driver Survey, far higher than the global average of 57%, highlighting that North American drivers suffer the most from bothcharging and parking concerns.

ChargeHub and Parkopedia’s collaboration also offers value to fleets, with operators and drivers able to access chargers from numerous public charging networks through a single account, with valuable parking and charging data integrated into this for a seamless user experience. This partnership provides drivers with access to a vast range of chargers, ensuring that drivers can find chargers locally as well as complete transactions and prioritise fast chargers when needed.

Commenting on the new collaboration, Hans Puvogel, Parkopedia COO, said: “Our latest partnership with ChargeHub is an important development for the industry, extending our North American charge point coverage while improving the parking and charging experience for EV drivers and ChargeHub users. North American drivers can now benefit from a streamlined charging experience with access to an additional 80,000 chargers in key locations, along with greater charging availability, location and parking data, combined with frictionless transactions, addressing the main pain points highlighted by EV drivers in our 2023 Global Driver Survey.”

In response to the new partnership, ChargeHub CEO, Simon Ouellette, added: “We are proud to be able to offer EVdrivers an improved charging experience by combining Parkopedia’s parking and charging data with our roaming hub. Once again, this agreement shows that ChargeHub is the preferred partner for eMSPs looking for a full turnkeyintegration to the largest pool of CSOs in the US and Canada.”

Zevtron Completes EV Charging Installation in Culver City

Culver City, CA —Zevtron, a Carlsbad, California-based smart EV charging software and hardware solutions provider, announced today that it has completed the installation of a new EV charging project in a Culver City, California business complex. This innovative project allows the complex owner to manage or restrict access to the chargers by tenant. Currently, the EV chargers are utilized by a state agency to recharge employee and fleet vehicles.

“This was a very innovative project, and I think it illustrates what the future of EV charging will look like at complexes with multiple tenants or user types,” said Zevtron founder Bob Andrews. “Our software permits the owner to manage who is authorized to use the EV chargers and when they can use them. In the future, the owner will be able to add additional authorized users or further limit use, based on individual tenant agreements. This can be great strategy for building and complex owners wishing to monetize EV charging.”

The installation featured five stations of 30-amp dual port chargers. The chargers are controlled by leveraging Zevtron’s industry leading software, which provides the flexibility to manage unique use cases on each individual charger.

“Use case management is a game changer,” said Andrews. “Say you have five tenants using your chargers, and some pay a flat rate for charging in their leases while others pay by kilowatt hour as needed. Or say some tenants want EV charging included in their leases and others don’t. The software allows you to create those different use cases and manage the charging relationship exactly how you and your tenants wish. For owners who monetize their EV charging, the software also allows you to establish different rates and process payment. This is an extraordinary level of control for owners.”
