PassportParking® App to Bring Convenience to Users of Long Island Rail Road’s Mineola Intermodal Center

PassportParking® App to Bring Convenience to Users of Long Island Rail Road’s Mineola Intermodal Center

Users Can Pay by App; Railroad Considering Expansion

New York (Nov. 5, 2018) — Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) customers in Mineola can now pay for parking by smartphone. LIRR president Phillip Eng announced that the railroad is working with Passport, the global leader in mobility technology solutions. The app will begin accepting parking payments at the LIRR’s Mineola Intermodal Center, at 65 Third Avenue in Mineola, which has parking for 960 cars. Use of the app adds convenience and additional features for commuters, and eliminates the need to use pay-on-foot machines on site.

The PassportParking app is free to download on iOS and Android. In addition to paying for parking through the app, users can also:

  • Monitor parking sessions electronically

  • Receive notifications for parking sessions ending soon

  • Extend parking sessions remotely

  • View payment history

  • Receive email receipts

Three quarters of parking spaces used by LIRR customers are controlled by municipalities or private companies. If the app proves successful, it could be expanded to LIRR-owned garages that are managed by Allpro parking, which works with Passport.

Additionally, the LIRR envisions a potential extension to the 920-space garage at Wyandanch, which is also owned by the LIRR and managed by Allpro.

“Whether it’s reconfiguring our on-platform displays to provide information that our customers have asked for, adding GPS to our trains to provide more accurate real-time arrival estimates for customers, or simplifying and speeding the parking process, we are harnessing technology to make our customers’ experience with us easier and more pleasant wherever we can,” Eng said. “This new app creates new functionality to make interactions with our system easier. If it proves successful I hope we can roll it out elsewhere.”

“We are excited to be offering our state of the art technology to commuters using AllPro – Long Island Rail Road facilities as part of their daily commute,” said Mollie Bolin, sales executive at Passport. “Gone are the days of missing your train because you were waiting in line to pay at the paystation, or having to stand at the paystation on a cold day, everything can now be paid via app saving time and hassle.”

In addition to making parking easier, the LIRR is also working to increase the supply and availability of parking, building hundreds of new spaces along the Main Line, at New Hyde Park, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville, as part of the Main Line Expansion Project.

Passport also powers mobile payments for parking for drivers that commute on the Metro North Rail line as well as across other New York regions including Albany, Rye, Buffalo and White Plains.

The PassportParking app is free to download from the App Store and Google Play, and parkers can also manage parking online at park.passportparking.com.

City of Windsor launches new enforcement system powered by Passport

City of Windsor launches new enforcement system powered by Passport

Real-time platform makes enforcement more accurate, convenient

Windsor, Ontario (Oct. 3, 2018) —  Passport, the industry leader in mobility solutions, announces the launch of a new enforcement platform for the City of Windsor. By upgrading to this new system, the city will now have immediate access to analytics. These analytics will provide information on parking trends, identify issues in high-ticket density areas and allow them to optimize their officers’ beats. The real-time data transfer functionality allows parking administrators to access parking notices information upon ticket issuance through Passport’s back office platform. At the same time bylaw enforcement officers can efficiently issue parking violation notices using wireless handheld devices and Bluetooth printers as opposed to docking a device. They can also monitor parking, conduct digital chalking and upload pictures of violations instantly.

The City of Windsor had extensively and carefully considered three options available for its enforcement operations. According to the August 28, 2017, City Council Agenda, the city identified three viable options:

Option A:

Keep the city’s current aging and unsupported parking enforcement provider

Option B:

Update the city’s enforcement hardware and keep the current provider

Option C:

Upgrade to Passport’s fully integrated enforcement platform in conjunction with Passport’s mobile app for parking payments

Considerations:

–       Officers would have to handle two bulky devices

–       More possible failures from current system

Considerations:

–       Costliest option with significant upfront financial contribution required

–       Bulky devices which may cause long term injury claims

Considerations:

–       Seamless integration between the mobile pay and enforcement systems

–       Real-time system with customized reports

–       Improved accuracy and compliance

Almost 1.5X more expensive as Passport’s solution Almost 3X more expensive as Passport’s solution Winner

“Passport was the clear winner from the three options the city considered,” said Bill Kralovensky, Windsor’s supervisor of parking enforcement. “Passport’s technology enables us to run our operations in real time, in a more efficient and cost-effective way, while also providing a better experience both for our parking enforcement officers as well as our customers.”

The city expects to write nearly 100,000 parking violations per year with the Passport system. In December 2017, the city launched Passport’s mobile pay platform, which will operate congruent with the enforcement platform. The new comprehensive solution will streamline the city’s enforcement process providing more accuracy and convenience, integrating both the mobile pay and enforcement systems together on the same platform. Passport’s enforcement platform has been certified by and integrated with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), enabling license plate lookups so the city can mail notices of impending convictions, fines and due date letters.

“The combination of our enforcement platform with our mobile pay solution will provide unmatched solutions for the City of Windsor,” said Conor Kelly, regional sales director at Passport. “Our technology will ensure bylaw enforcement officers are provided the support they need to do their jobs successfully, while real-time data will give administrators the tools they need to make data-driven decisions.”

With the platform the city has the ability to locate bylaw enforcement officers in real-time, pull ticket density reports and analyze parking patterns to continuously improve parking in the city. Passport is the technology provider for mobile parking payments in the City of Detroit, the Toronto Parking Authority, the Stationnement de Montrealand Buffalo, N.Y. More information on Passport’s enforcement software is available at www.passportinc.com/enforcement.

The Passport-powered app introduces 3-Day Pass option

Tucson, Ariz. (Aug. 24, 2018) — Leaving home for college is a huge milestone with so much excitement to look forward to in the school year.  It’s also a time of great responsibility and independence. Students will make decisions on what classes to take, whether to work part-time and even how to spend weekends off-campus.  One decision students won’t have to consider is how to get around town.  A partnership with the City of Tucson and Passport makes moving throughout the City easy with the GoTucson Transit app.

This fall, Passport, the global leader of mobile payments for transit and parking, will introduce a 3-Day Pass into the GoTucson Transit app.  The 3-Day Pass is designed to allow families the flexibility of traveling on Sun Tran buses and the Sun Link streetcar at a discounted rate of $10. Whether families are helping students shop for last-minute items or visiting for an Arizona Wildcats football game — they have the option of commuting throughout the city on Tucson’s award-winning public transportation system.  Families will also have the option of downloading a 1-Day Pass or even a 30-Day Pass to fully experience the city’s public transit.

“We’re excited to introduce the 3-Day Pass as an option for families helping their students move in or visiting for a long weekend,” said Sun Tran General Manager Steve Spade. “Our passes will help families become better acquainted with the Tucson community and the GoTucson Transit app will allow visitors to have a convenient commute on Sun Tran and Sun Link.”

University of Arizona students are eligible for a 50 percent discount through the University. The semester fare pass is $96 per semester (normally $192) and will be available for purchase through Oct. 31. With the GoTucson Transit app students can plan, track and pay for their trip in one simple, secure app.  Upon purchase, students have immediate access to an e-ticket, avoiding queues for ticket sales.

“The GoTucson Transit app offers an easy way for students and families to get around from campus to other destinations throughout the city,” said Tom Wiese, Passport transit executive. “The app has been a part of the city’s public transportation since 2015 and it’s quite popular with students. With the new 3-Day Pass we expect students and parents to take full advantage of Tucson’s public transportation.”

Tucsonans have used the app nearly 170,000 times to buy tickets and ride the city’s transit.  The app is free to download through theApp Storeor GooglePlay. Users can also manage their transit details at https://gotucsontransit.com.  Passport also powers the city’s GoTucson Parking app. With the app, drivers can pay for and extend a parking session, as well as receive email receipts using their smartphones.

City adopts first mobile payment option

Richmond, Va. (Aug. 8, 2018) — An estimated 7 million people visited the Richmond-area between fiscal 2015-2016, and according to the Richmond-Times Dispatch, they spent about $6 million a day. With signs pointing toward a steady increase in tourism growth in the Richmond region, the City of Richmond is again upgrading its parking operations to keep up with thedemand of tourists and its residents in popular high-traffic downtown areas, such as Carytown.Today, the city is launching PassportParking®, a mobile parking application that allows motorists to pay for their parking through their smartphones. The app is powered by the global leader of mobile payments for parking and transit, Passport, serving cities and universities throughout North America.

The app is available for more than 1,500 on-street parking spaces primarily in the downtown area of the city. The city has 567 single-space meters and 161 pay stations. These more traditional payment methods will still be available for those who choose to use them. However, the PassportParking app is found to be a convenient alternative. The app enables parkers to monitor and extend parking sessions remotely, send alerts and notifications about parking sessions, provide payment history and emails receipts at the end of each parking session. This would be the first time Richmond has offered a mobile payment option.

“The PassportParking® app will offer our residents and guests flexibility and convenience here in our city,” said Lynne Lancaster, Deputy Director of DPW, City of Richmond. “This technology aligns with Mayor Levar Stoney’s transportation initiatives — it helps improve the way people commute in the city. The new app will give people the freedom to enjoy Richmond at their leisure.”

“When you can enjoy a city at your own pace you get to really embody all it has to offer. When motorists use the app they can simply pay for their parking sessions from their phones and extend them, if need be. No need to run back to a meter or pay station. Our app offers the ease of doing everything from the palm of your hand. It simplifies your stay so you won’t feel rushed when all you want is to cherish your time,” said Kelsey Owens, Passport regional director.

The PassportParking app is free to download through the App Storeor Google Play. Users can also manage their parking at ppprk.com. In the Commonwealth, the app is also accessible in Virginia Beach, Lynchburg, the College of William & Mary and at Northern Virginia Community College. The ParkNorfolk app, also developed by Passport, is available in Norfolk.
